In our house, we LOVE dessert, so I’m always on the quest to find healthy dessert recipe ideas. Instead of the typical sugary Conversation Hearts and Boxed Chocolates, I’ve pulled together some Valentine’s Day ideas to make it a special occasion for your sweetie or kiddos. These recipes balance things out with some good-for-you ingredients.

Some key things to keep in mind to lighten up desserts:

Opt for fruits to sweeten things up
Choose dark chocolate over milk chocolate
Look for lower fat whipped toppings
Use healthy fats like nut butters and coconut when possible
Pay careful attention to portion size

      Angel food cake topped with strawberries and light or fat free whipped cream!! My alltime fav lowfat dessert!

        I take that one step further.
        – Break up the Angel food cake into a glass bowl (because this looks amazing!)
        – Mix in a batch of sugar free / fat free chocolate jello pudding (made with skim milk)
        Mix in about 2/3 container of fat free / sugar free cool whip
        – Add about 1/2 cup of cherries and you’ve got a big bowl of low fat HEAVEN!
        It’s my favorite go to when I absolutely MUST have a sweet!
