If Amazon Mom is a free membership, why is it telling me that I get 3 months free and then it’s $79 per year?

  • JenO

I haven’t seen any language about receiving half off the prime membership after the trial period ends.  In fact, this is what the website says: “After your free period, you’ll be charged $79 for a year of Amazon Prime and Amazon Mom benefits.”  And, they are asking for my credit card information now (to be charged after the trial period).

Where can I find more information on half off the prime membership by using Amazon Mom?

    • Shan7seh

I agree – this is super confusing.

  • Guest

I’m not even seeing the offer of 3 free months:

You’ll be charged $79 for a year of Amazon Prime and Amazon Mom benefits:
20% off diapers and wipes subscriptions

FREE Two-Day Shipping on millions of items

Unlimited instant streaming of thousands of movies and TV shows with Prime Instant Videos

A Kindle book to borrow for free each month from the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library

  • Guest

i wonder if it makes a difference if you’ve had a prime membership before. i’m not seeing the 1/2 price or 3 free months and i’ve done the 30 day trial before.

  • Guest

Why aren’t I eligible for the free 3-month offer from Amazon Mom?

    If you
have ever received shipping benefits through Amazon Mom, Amazon
Student, or have had a paid or free trial Prime membership within the
past 13 months, you are not eligible for the Amazon Mom free period.
And since the Amazon Mom program is limited to one membership per
household, this also applies to invited guests.

    • Sadietrap

Thanks for the info.  That is why I’m not getting the 3 month free offer.  Bummer.

  • Sadietrap

I was about to sign-up, but it looks like I am going to be charged the $39 if do.  I thought it was going to be free for 3 months and then I could decide if I wanted the membership.  I’m not sure if it ends up saving you enough money to cover the $39.  The 2 day free shipping is nice, but you can get free shipping for a lot of their items anyway by using the Super Saver Shipping.  A lot of items qualify for this and they say it takes 5-8 days for the items to arrive when  using Super Saver Shipping, but I find that they usually get here sooner, anyway.

  • Just to make sure…they just want my credit card info for future use, right? They’re not charging anything now or placing any holds?

    • Sadietrap

No, it looks like they are charging you right now…so, I guess there is no free 3 months.

  • Mine says I’m eligible for 3 months free and then it will charge me $79 if I don’t cancel.

    • Sadietrap

Weird, I’m not getting the free 3 months for some reason, but it does say that it will be $39/month.

  • Sarai Wilson

I think they must have changed the terms of membership…. I’m not seeing any discount off the groceries, and at the end of 3 months, they will charge me $79. doesn’t quite seem worth it….

  • Mollysavingmom

Yes, it says after three months you will be charged, but you can cancel at anytime. So I signed up and set my calendar to alert me at 3 months and then I will just cancel – at least I will get three free months of shipping! We use amazon ALL the time for books!

    •  I was just setting my calendar also. I have an amazon gift card that I wanted to use but didn’t want to worry about shipping, so this will work out great! 3 free months of shipping is better than nothing!

    • MarySC

You can just go into your prime account and disable autorenew. (The mom membership also gives you a prime membership and that is where the autorenew option is, not in the mom account. Took me a while to figure that out!)

  • couponmama3

I’ve never done this before, but looking at the FAQs it seems that you can still be a member of Amazon Mom w/o joining Amazon Prime at the end of the 3 months. So, you still get their emails & deals (but only 5% off diapers) after the trial period ends if you don’t subscribe to prime. Maybe that will help someone. :)

  • fantastic!!! thanks so much!

  • emj

I always sign up with multiple accounts and use Visa/AmEx gift cards so I won’t get charged in 3 months since the value of the gift card will be $0 in 3 months. :)

  • Traci0322

I’m trying to sign up, but it’s saying it’s going to charge $79 for the amazon prime and mom benefits.  I would do it and pay $39… but no benefit for us to pay full price now, I’ll wait until we really need it.

  • Erin

you can go into the amazon prime section after you’ve signed up and choose to NOT auto enroll then when 3 months are up it said you will NOT be charged

    • Amanda

Thank you, Erin! That was the deal breaker for me because I was afraid I would forget to cancel and then get charge $79! For those of you that need help with this. Sign up and then click on the “Your Account” link at the top right. Then click on “Manage Prime Membership” about 1/2 way down the page under the Settings section. There is a button that says something like “Do not automatically upgrade.” Click it, confirm that you don’t want it to automatically upgrade you in 3 months, and ta da!!

  • Nadineyathali

i just joined got the 3months for free and I changed the automatic upgrade that will occur 3months fm. now to full membership. Its full price btw $80 not $39 so I will definately not be joining after the free trial period.

  • Julie

After you put in your card number, you can go into your Account settings and  then go to Manage Prime Membership.  There, you can choose to not upgrade your membership automatically.  Then I took my card off the account (I do that anyways because of my Fire).  I don’t want my kids accidentally ordering something.

  • Marycansave

I think it’s strange that my husband, who is on the waiting list, was not informed that amazon mom was open again…but i was able to get in with no problem.   Sketch.

    • Marycansave

Also, the terms of amazon mom changed HUGELY from the original terms….it’s almost laughable now.

  • Mrsrummel

The prime membership is absolutely $79 after the trial and if you are already a mom member there is no discount. I just chatted with customer service and only the student membership is $39/yr IF you are a college student. Have to say customer chat was not very pleasant either
