Does anyone know if you still have to pay a fee if you have the disk?

      • Megan

If you got it in the mail, yes.  If you are borrowing the disk from someone who has already purchased it, you don’t have to pay to use it or e-file as long as they haven’t used the code 5 times already.  It includes one state (that can be used my multiple people)  BUT to e-file your state, it typically costs $20-$25 extra.  I have used this for multiple years and just recently have started e-filing my federal (included in the price) and then using the software to do my state and then mailing my state in.

When I lived in the same state as my mom, we shared a copy since we could both e-file our separate returns.  Now I don’t b/c it costs just as much to buy the extra state as it does to buy the whole software.
