How much are their checks, or do they offer free checking too?

    • Sassymomma22boys

$5 for a book of checks but the cool part is that you can mail checks directly from the website for FREE. You can set up a check/bill payment schedule if you have recurring bills that don’t take electronic payments (which you can also set up thru ING). It’s really awesome. I have a book of checks but I have hand written only one check since opening an acct. It’s so easy to do everything online.

  • Pattalee2003

how does this work exactly, I have a regular checking account at a credit union already, what is different about this?  Do you use checks with it or just a debit card…why would I want to switch?  Any info would be appreciated.

The only negative is ING is all online, so there is no “brick and mortar” buildings, but I never need an actual building to bank anymore. They have a million ATMs. ING uses the ATMs at CVS, Walgreens, and Target. If I need to desposit money I use their app and snap a picture of the check and “boom” my money is in the my acct in a few business days. Not only is the account free, but you also earn interest!

If you ever goof up or get in a pinch they don’t charge you that awful $35 NSF fee.  Instead they charge you a fair and reasonable interest rate until you catch back up. i.e. I goofed and overdrafted once, but had money back in my account the very next day.  I was only charged a .01. I also use their online bill pay that is free.  I haven’t needed an actual checkbook in years. Their website is so user friendly.  I even have 3 savings accounts with them as well which are all free and of course the interest rate is higher!

  • Pattalee2003

ok, thanks all for answering my questions.  But, I don’t have a cell phone, so how would I make a deposit to my ING account since there are no actual “brick and mortar buildings” to go to?

    • Lisa Weedman Newell

I know that you can also use a scanner or digital camera to send images of your check to your account via their website. I’m not sure, but you may be able to deposit at the ATM as well.

    • Janice9

I make transfers to my ING accounts through my “brick and mortar” bank account. Also, if you have an ING savings account, you can make transfers from that account into your ING checking account online.

So it has to be a direct deposit from an employer to receive the $76 bonus or can it be a deposit from any check with your phone app? Thanks.

        • I’m pretty sure that direct deposit means from your employer, or pension-like fund, on a recurring basis.

You can use a scanner and transfer the check images by PC using ING’s app.

  • Shem61

I have had an ING account for about 8 months and love it! No overdraft fees and just deposited an image of check using a scanner. Savings rate is competitive too.

  • Lane

I am seriously thinking about this, but have a couple of questions. Like depositing checks you take a picture, what do you do with the actual check? How would you make a withdrawal from a savings account?

Typically you will write “electronically presented” on the face of the check. Once you’re satisfied the money has been deposited, you can destroy the check.

  • Shelly

Just so you know; it does pull your report from Equifax.  I have frozen my social security number for to protect against identity theft so if your number is also frozen, you will have to “un-freeze” it prior to creating an account.

is ING pretty reliable, as far as making payments to specified creditors on time and not flubbing up the transactions, etc???

where is this bank in nc

    • RebeccaFer

It is an online bank only, not a brick and mortar structure.

We’re sorry, but the referral email offer you received for an account opening bonus has expired and is no longer valid. We recommend that you contact the sender and ask them to re-send the referral email. Or click ‘Continue’ to proceed with the account opening process without the bonus. ????

If you want another account this is fine. Apply and get the bonus if you need/want another account and having a credit check run and another account on it works for you.

Know that they don’t offer features you can’t have access to from most all banks & credit unions. Bill pay, deposits with electronic pictures, direct deposits et al are readily available at most institutions.

Know that it does sometimes take ING longer to deposit funds into your account depending on the source, such as a picture deposit. If you need your money available the same day it won’t be. Sometimes people need immediate access.

  • KEB2009

just an FYI you have to have 2 $250 direct deposits.

  • momof3

I did this the last time they offered it and never received my money, despite meeting all their requirements….

  • Shellbean03

did the application then said the offer was no longer available and to contact the site that told me about it and advise them. Hope this is not a hoax, just entered my personal info online, don’t feel good about this!

  • Anne

After entering my information I got a message that the site was experiencing technical difficulties. It said to apply again later.

I have an orange savings account with ING and have for many years.  I opened it long before they ever offered checking accounts.  The interest rate for the savings was pretty good at the time I opened it, but they are not the top anymore.  Then I discovered high interest rewards checking accounts that are offered by many smaller banks and credit unions.  The interest rates on thoe have gone down in recent years but still blow the ING rates out of the water.  I have one paying 2.5% and another paying 3.5% if you meet the easy monthly requirements.  I wouldn’t mind getting the $152, but we don’t have direct deposit since my husband is self-employed….not sure how I’d set that part up.  And after receiving the $152, there would be little motivation for keeping the money in there.  I’d just want to transfer it to my 3.5% checking so I could keep getting more interest.

  • Sprtgirl32

I see there are a few offers…like get $17.76 into a kids savings account. Does anyone know if I could take advantage of the offer mentioned above and the kids savings account??

  • new2this

A small correction… you must make 2 direct deposits of at least $250 by 8-31 to qualify for the second bonus of $76, and you must pass a credit check to qualify for the account.

  • KJ

If you’re referred, then you’re not eligible for the $76 after 5 transactions. Instead, you’ll receive $50 after 3 transactions.
