Digital Doorstep Files Bankruptcy

If you recently purchased a gift card deal through Plum District, Saveology or another daily deal site, and are wondering why you haven’t received your credit, I finally got word today on what happened.

Unfortunately this took a while to flesh out, frustrating lots of people and making the daily deal sites look suspicious. I work really hard to post legitimate deals from respectable companies, so moments like this are frustrating for us all.

What Happened?
The same company, Digital Doorstep, offered gift card deals through several deal sites.  Well, they just filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Lovely, I know.  The daily deal sites DO seem to be stepping up to the plate and offering full refunds, but it is taking a while and you may have to contact them to ask for one.

      I bought the Starbucks deal….at first I had problem redeeming it, the links didnt work. Then I got an email stating there was a problem and it would be resolved in a few days. Soon after I was able to retrieve my deal, however it was complicated! I have used my deals and they worked fine!

      I’ve have been email Plum District as well as digital doorstep about the Fandango/Starbucks deal.  I also tried to call but can’t find a number for Plum District.  The girl at digital doorstep gave me a different number with 3 different extensions and all the voice mails were full.  I have emailed Plum District repeatedly and they just keep sending the same email they sent at the first of the year with directions on how to try again.  I won’t do business with Plum Districts again.  Their response has been beyond pitiful and why wouldn’t a website offer a phone number – very shady company in my opinion.

      Include as much info as possible – email, username, voucher number if you have it, name of deal, date purchased, etc.  Remember to be civil in your request, you’ll catch more flies with honey than vinegar

      Digital doorstep never responded to my E-mails despite their e-mail saying they would respond within 72 hours. Plum district responded today after my e-mail yesterday saying that I would receive a full refund within 7 days.
      Not your fault Jenny, we love you.

      Had an issue with a Fandango movie code. It was just the code by itself- not with a restaurant. So glad I am not going crazy.

      I had no luck with digital doorstep e-mail but eversave did give me a refund promptly. This was from a deal in October (perhaps the first signs of issues). I am glad though that it wasn’t just me.

      I had bought the Fandango through SharingSpree and already contacted them before when I had entered the code back on 1/10 & it said it would be mailed (via post – not emailed) because they had received so many fraudulant codes.  Sharing Spree had offerered me a credit then, but also said the expiration date had been extended to 2/1.  I waited to see if the code would arrive, and it has not.  I just contacted them again tonight after reading this post and requested the credit back again.  If you need to contact them, their email is: sharingspree@aol.com

      The daily deal sites should be stepping up to the plate indeed.  You shouldn’t have to request a refund when they screwed up; they should be up on that and emailing people who ordered as soon as they knew there was a problem. 

      I ordered a B&N gift card through savemore on December 2nd, redeemed it on December 14, and finally got an email from them last week saying the gift card is in the mail.  This is *after* I filed a complaint with the BBB.

      Savemore has awful customer service, no customer service e-mail, two phone numbers that go to a voicemail instead of to actual people (and they never return your call), and their Facebook page looks like nobody ever responds.

      HOWEVER, if you want to get in touch with savemore, you can email them:
      help at savemore dot com
      and through their Facebook webpage.

      Or, you can do like I did, contact them every way possible (including through their careers website), not get any response for a solid week, file a complaint with the BBB, and get a response when savemore gets the BBB complaint.  You’ll probably get a response a lot more quickly that way.

        I have bought several things from Savemore and they take very long to receive…I am still waiting on an Auto Zone GC (from Oct or Nov) and a tooth whitening brush from Nov. I have tried to get int ouch with savemore everyway possible with no response. Very bad customer service. I do not buy from them anymore!

          I had bought from Savemore in the past, and always received everything I bought in a very timely fashion, with no problems.  Looking at their Facebook page (and on another coupon blog), I found out that many, many other people are having the same problems I’m having, with giftcards starting in November.

            I’m waiting on a gift card purched from savemore for Barnes and Noble that was redeemed on 12/15/11.  Just called to find out what’s going and had to leave a message on their answering machine.  I’m guessing I will never hear back from them.   

    • I had bought the Fandango through Tippr and just wrote them to request a refund.  Here’s what the Digital Doorstep website says right now:  EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY: 
      Digital Doorstep has stopped the processing of code requests.
      Please return to the website you purchased your product from and they will either issue you a full refund or deliver the product to you directly.
      Alternatively, you can also enter your code and information below and we will forward your product request to the appropriate daily deal site from which you purchased.
      We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and we will continue to work with our daily deal partners to ensure your order is fulfilled urgently.

      I had this problem as well.  I kept e-mailing Plum District and got no replies, other than those automated ones they sent out.  I was able to get a refund though by doing this:

      1. I sent an email clearly stating I was disputing the charge with my credit card company if they did not reply by a date and time (be specific)

      2.  When I got no reply by my due date, I went ahead and disputed the charge on my card.  Luckily, my card company is pretty awesome and had it posted the next business day.

      3.  Along with the dispute I filed a complaint with the BBB.  Just search them on BBB website and it will be one of the first results that appears.

      Good luck, I know this has been a royal pain in the butt.

      I’m still waiting on an autozone gc and a cvs gc. Sounds like its time to start complaining. Thanks for posting this- I would have had no idea why.

      I sent them a question and got a very quick response. (Yes, I was nice about it because I AM and have been a Customer Service Rep for years in many diff businesses). I got sent a message back I would say within an hour or so that they will be sending me a full refund.

      I had had troubles with the Starbucks/Fandango deal…at first it said it wasn’t working, then said they would have to mail me something, then it said try again later. I finally emailed Plum District and got a response fairly quickly saying I would get a refund. I received it a couple of days later. There are so many deal websites out there, I think it’s best to stick to the most reputable ones that have a reputation.

      I purchased a $10 CVS giftcard for $6 back in November 2011.  I can’t remember what company it was thru?  Does anyone know?  I have yet to receive the gift card.

        THE CVS card wasn’t an actual giftcard, it was an E-Giftcard.  You print the certificate and bring it into CVS like a giftcard though.

      I purchased a $10 CVS giftcard for $6 back in November 2011.  I can’t remember what company it was thru?  Does anyone know?  I have yet to receive the gift card.

      My experience with plum district customer service was great.  I did the starbucks/fandango deal and when the code didn’t work, they sent me actual replacement codes for starbucks and fandango, not digital doorstep.  They were prompt and apologetic for the problems.  I waited a couple of weeks before I tried to redeem, so maybe some of the problems have been worked through and the responses will be faster now.

      I second the reports about savemore: out of four giftcard orders, three took so long that I asked for refunds. (The fourth did finally arrive, though later than they said it would.) I got responses, but unhelpful ones, on their facebook page but did get fairly timely refunds after sending a polite but firm email. They aren’t entirely a scam as I was beginning to fear, but they have horrible service and I wouldn’t order from them again no matter how tempting the deal.

      I did both these deals and thankfully got my stuff but I did have problems with the Starbucks code, they reset them all so I was able to get it the second time.  And the Target cards took a pretty long time to get to me in the mail but came eventually.

      Does anyone know the best way to get in contact with Savemore? I’ve tried calling with no luck. I ordered a barnes and noble gift card in early December and still has not arrive. I have called and left messages with them and no one has returned my calls. I do not see an email address on their site.

        I haven’t recieved by B&N card, and have been unable to redeem the PapaJohns deal either.  I emailed them on 12/30 (about the PapaJphns thing) and again on 01/06 and never recieved a response.

      I purchased a deal through Half Off Depot that was the Fandango tickets and $50 Discount Dining Dollars. I have already put the codes in to Digital Doorstep, so I think I am okay because I just logged in to Discount Dining Dollars and can still use it. However, if anyone knows that this will be affected, please let me know! I’m just not sure if this is mainly for those who have not redeemed their codes since it seems Digital Doorstep is no longer allowing the codes to be redeemed.

      Jenny, sorry I commented below before realizing this would affect me. I contacted Half Off Depot about my purchase of the Fandango/Discount Dining Dollars through Digital Doorstep and the only thing they will do is give me credit to their site for a future purchase, instead of a refund. I inquired as to getting a refund instead and they stated that all revenue went to Digital Doorstep so they will not give a refund. Is there anything further I can do? I hardly purchase from the deal sites, so I don’t want to have that money/credit sitting there waiting on a purchase when I could get it refunded.

      Jenny -thank you for posting this.  This has been an issue since October.  I filed with the BBB today.  They are not members -something I should have checked out before doing business with them.  I have 3 purchases I have been unable to redeem. Why don’t you remove them from your website?

      I purchased 2 Fandango Tickets/ $50 in Dining Dollars from Half Off Depot.  I just sent them a message and got a response in 20 minutes.  They gave me a credit for a future purchase – not a refund.

        Same thing here – I asked them in response to give me a refund and they said they could not as all funds went directly to Digital Doorstep. I responded and let them know that other sites (such as Plum District) are putting customers first and giving full refunds and taking it upon themselves to hash it out with Digital Doorstep legally.

      Does anyone know how to contact kgb deals? I purchased a voucher for 2 Fandango tickets from them that went through digital doorstep, I had almost forgotten to redeem it on digital doorstep’s site and when I tried to it said the code was invalid. Now I know why. I also had trouble with the fandango/starbucks deal but luckily got it resolved when some others did.

      Did anyone have an issue receiving a Starbucks card in the mail that did not work?  I have one that has a Santa Claus on it.  I tried to check the balance with Starbucks directly and they said it had never been activated and they could not tell me where it came from.  I have bought so many of these “deals” from so many different sites, I cannot remember where I got this one.  I did do a Fandango deal, but I don’t remember there being a Starbucks card with it.  Help?

      I had bought the Starbucks/Fandango deal and had issues with both codes. I emailed them on Saturday, they emailed me back a few hours later. They are refunding the $28.00 and said it could take up to 7 business days.

      I did get a refund from Savemore for 2 deals that didn’t work out. It took exactly a week but I complained on the facebook page almost daily until they responded.

    • I got a subway card in September and a PapaJohns card… I have not received them. I have called and left two messages and e-mailed them and they have not gotten back to me :( I don’t know what else to do!!

      I purchased a Tippr deal on Nov 29: $12 for $24 in Fandango tickets. I sent an e-mail to Tippr this afternoon and they responded in about 10 mins with the response that my card would be refunded! Wow! I’m shocked. :)

      fandango tickets through groupalicious. thank you for researching this.  I didn’t know about the bankruptcy, but I did request a refund from groupalicious because Digital doorstep didn’t even answer their phone – just had a busy signal.

      I was offer a credit today from Half Off for the Girls Night Out (Target-Restaurant” deal from November which I NEVER received. Obviously I DO NOT want a credit from this company as I won’t be purchasing from them again. I opened yet another service ticket, so let’s see what they say now. I am losing my patience after this last foolish response.

      Same here, I bought the Burger King card as well, and haven’t received it and can’t get a “real” human to answer their phone. I may do the same and call my cc company!! What a waste of time!!

      I used a Savemore voucher for Reusable bags. I have not been able to get a hold of anyone on either end. I was able to use it on the site several months ago, paid a balance on my credit card and items never arrived. Contacting bbb
