For all of you on the road this summer, Kroger stores are doubling the discount you get at the pump all summer long!  From now until 9/30 you can earn up to $2 off a gallon of gas.

There are 3 ways to earn fuel points (these have not doubled in value):

1. Purchase Groceries

$100 in groceries = 100 points

2. Non-federally Funded Prescriptions

2 prescriptions = 100 points

3. Gift Card Points

$50 in Gift Cards = 100 points
(excludes Kroger gift cards)

Tip: Until Father’s Day they are offering 4X the points on gift card purchases.  So stock up on gift cards to local stores like Target, Lowes etc. that you will use and get 200 points for each $50 card you purchase!

For each 100 points redeemed at the pump, 10¢ off per gallon is awarded:

100 Points = 10¢ off per gallon
200 Points = 20¢ off per gallon
1,000 Points = $1 off per gallon
1,500 Points = $1.50 off per gallon
2,000 fuel points = $2 off per gallon

You can earn up to $2 off per gallon, 5/27-9/30. Normal exclusions apply on grocery and gift card purchases.

does it work on a regular visa/am xpress gift card? will the gift card points expire the next month like groceries?

      • Yes!   We didn’t even know the special was on when my husband purchased two Visa gift cards for graduation gifts.  The extra points were on the receipt.   We’re going to purchase more for our regular spending around town.  Woo hoo!

        • Marygreen Rn

remember that the Visa and AmEx gift cards charge you an activation fee — usually $5 so makes it not worth it but if you buy store specific or restaurant specific ones there are no fees.

Saw this discussed on another forum. Someone said they buy a $500 visa gc each paycheck to get 1000 points (regular not double). Then they use the gc for groceries, gas, bills, etc. Those 1000 pts make for a $1/gal discount, which to me is worth $18 (18 gallon tank) but to others could be worth up to $35 b/c of the 35 gallon limit. Even the $18 is significantly more than the activation fee. If there is a $500 fixed value (might only be the variable load), that would be 2000 points right now or $2/gal discount. Definitely worth a 5.95 or 7.95 activation fee IMO.

            • Wendi S

My math was wrong on this post 2. A $500 gc would be 4000 points, or enough for 2 fillups at $2/gallon off!

      • Wendi S

There was some fine print about certain visa/mc/amex being excluded, but it looked like it was the variable-amount ones. Glad to see someone posted that it did work for them on visa gc.

    • If you have a Chase Freedom credit card, you will get 5% cash back from grocery purchases (including gift cards)!

      • DAWGMAMA

i hate chase and anything associated with it.  they are a ripoff.

    • SaritaZ

I am excited about this because i live on the border of carolina and virginia and sometimes I shop at kroger in virginia, which is about 17 miles away, for good deals and cheaper gas so this is very exciting and something i must look into.

    • Donna

question? if i get up to 2000 points and then go to redeem my points for discount on gas, do i just get the discount once? im a little confused on the the points are available to me after i get my points?

      • Mel1

Yup… you get one shot at using them.  And there’s a limit on the number of gallons… 30, I think?  So bring your gas cans or second vehicle or friends’ vehicles or whatever and take advantage of it.  After you’ve used the points the one time, they’re gone until you earn more.

        • My husband and I go together and we fill both our vehicles.  I’m pretty sure 30 gallons is the limit but we haven’t hit it yet.

The way I understand it is that you get the discount applicable to the current balance on your Kroger points card. So yes, if you reach 2000 pts, you will use that discount in one fueling event.  You would have to reach the 2000 again to get that same discount. From the Kroger Fuel program website:
How long do I have to use my fuel points?Fuel points earned in a given month are available for use through the end of the following calendar month. Points do not combine across months. When filling up at a Kroger fuel center, you’ll always be offered the biggest discount available, based on each month’s fuel point totals available in your account. For example, if you have 200 unredeemed fuel points from January and 300 fuel points in February, the 30¢ per gallon discount from February will be offered on your next fill-up. The 20¢ per gallon discount from January will be available through the end of February.

If it’s 4x the points wouldn’t that be 400 points for every $50 in gifts cards?

      • Rrnlrapa

        4X50 is 200

        • Brandygilbert101

It’s not 50×4. It’s $50 gift card = 100 points. The points are what is x4 so Amm6300 is correct. It should be 400 points.

      • Rrnlrapa

We are heading down to Disney World next week. So we will be stocking up the Disney Giftcards. Use it for the resorts and food.

    • So in order to get to 2000 points I would have to spend two grand at Kroger in one month??

      • pdsmama

Yes and no.  Gift cards or a prescription rack up the points.

    • Michelle

I’m so dissappointed that Alabama is excluded! =/

    • Auntsonia

My local Kroger is also offering 2x points on all grocery purchases.  When I went in last week, I spent $60 and got 120 points.  The cashier said they were doing it for the next 3 months!!

      • Crhoden222

         Where is your Kroger?

    • Smallworldkyds

JUST FILLED UP  LAST NIGHT $44.25 FOR 35 GALLONS AT DAILY’S SHELL WHO HONORS KROGER POINTS IN NASHVILLE , TN.
I DON’T BUY A LOT OF GROCERIES AT KROGER, PUBLIX IS USUALLY CHEAPER. LOVE THE GIFT CARD DEAL.

    • Traci0322

Also, don’t know if this is everywhere, but coupon values go towards gas points!!  I checked out the other night and paid $12.60 and saw that I had 31 gas points for the visit, and when I did the math, I realized that the face value of all of my manufacturer coupons were included in the total.  :)

    • Lindsayhunton

Do you still get the fuel points for buying a Kroger gift card?

      • Lindsayhunton

nevermind,  I just figured it out.

    • shelly

Has anyone purchased a gas card, say to shell yet? Does it also give the points? Some of our shell stations honor Kroger points so that’d be a win win I guess? Just not sure if the gas gift cards count too??

      • DWinGA

Just left my kroger in GA where they had a sign posted saying fuel cards did not count toward this promotion. It was a hand written sign. The cashier said they had just notified them of the policy after all the promotion signs were printed.

Does anyone know what the highest-value fixed-value visa or mc or amex is? Is it $100? If so, that’s 400 points, so it would take 5 to get the 2000 point discount. If I fill up an 18-gallon van and 2 3-gal gas tanks, that is a $48 discount but around $30 in gc fees, so I’m not sure if it’s worth it. If there were a $250 card, that would be more worth it.

      • Wendi S

Oops, I did the math wrong. The $100 gc is regularly 200 points but would be 800 if it works under the 4x promo. So 5 $100 cards for about a $25-30 activation fee would get me 2 fillups @ $48 gas discount each. That’s worth it if it works! Will try this tomorrow.

    • 302799

I buy $30 worth of products at CVS and get a $10 gas card.  You can do this 5 times … so with q’s, I can drop it down to at least $20-$25 … max OOP is around $100-$125.  $50 of gas with no activiation fee.

    • Wendi S

I tried this out with 2 $100 gc’s, one visa and 1 mc. I earned 800 points, so it appears you earn 4x the face value of the card, rather than 4x what you would normally earn. Since you normally earn 2x, I thought the 4x promo would mean you’d earn 8x the face value, but I was mistaken. HTH.
