I teach in a small private school and I come across hungry students each morning or I see kids eating things that are so unhealthy. So, my resolutions this year are to be proactive with the students in my class and get volunteers to have healthy items for students to choose from each morning. There are only 5 months left in the school year so I want to find donors and volunteers to do more than just talk about our students being healthier, but to help them get there. I also think that this will push parents and the faculty to do better.

We are trying to pay off all our credit cards this year. So we are setting down as a family and reducing some of our un necessary bills. Selling stuff we just thought we had to have and hardly ever use. Make more time for each other by shopping together, watching movies at home, and eating more healthier meals at home to reduce spending out of pocket at restaurants. We plan to watch what we eat, loose weight, and reduce our debt, while we grow closer as a family. Reading our Bibles and placing trust in Jesus. With his strength and patients with us we can do it.

My New year’s resolution: go on a get away vacation with my wife.
In the nearly 6 years since our first child was born (we have three), we have not been able to go anywhere by our selves. We simply have not had the money or the oppertunity to make it work
Now we are in a little more stable situation financially and if we can save enough money over the first half of the year, we will be able to fly grandma out to take care of the kids and we can go on our first vacation as a couple (even if it is only for a two or three days) since our honeymoon.

    • Toni

My New Year’s resolution came about due to the snowballing difficulties that came this Christmas with our sudden and unplanned acquisition of a needy cat. No matter how much money and time I have spent on trying to solve the problems of this adorable cat, one crisis followed another untiI I realized that I didn’t have all the solutions and wasn’t meant to have them, and that for the sake of a cat I was neglecting the needs of all the people in my life and all the things God commands us to put first. I realize the cat situation is a microcosm of the problem with my whole life, and as a result of what I have learned, I resolve the following: To joyfully submit to God’s sovereign providences and let His Word guide me rather than leaning unto my own understanding, so that I stop allowing temporal crises to consume my life and keep me from the most important things in life.

      • Toni

I am not in control! God is.

If I have a friend who is not any good for me, I have difficulty letting that friend go. So, this year I’m going to cleanse myself and my surroundings of any and all things that are not actively helping me to to progress. My couponing has saved so much during 2012. Outside of essentials, I plan on limiting my purchases during the 2013 year to just those things that are at free or nearly free even if it is something that i may not use or need. My friend and her husband have suffered greatly due to the failed economy. They went from making several hundred thousands of dollars a year to almost thirty thousand a year between the both of them. Once a month I carry a goodie bag(s) to them. It is my way of donating part of what I have been blessed with. Purchasing items for free or nearly free will allow me to give more to them.

He is a diabetic and heart patient who is overweight(mostly due to medication side effects). I hope through meal planning, vitamins, and exercise that I can help encourage him and boost his moral. I will have to start buying a little ammunition for this battle ahead. With the rising cost of medication and office visits…..I will have to decide carefully, how to put all of this in place with only one income. Mine is to get a second job or a better one so i can provide more for my girls and yet be able to spend more time with them since it is just my girls and i. they have had a really rough past year and a half. we moved and then ended up having three fires in twenty four hours in our apartment building. had to move again in the meantime until they could get us another apartment. finally got another apartment, trying to start over then my daughter’s dad passed away very unexpectadly. so now dealing with that as well. i just want to give my girls a better life, so hopefully me being able to get a better job will lead to me getting to spend more time with my girls and providing for them better.

    • Tabitha

I know everyone makes the resolution to lose weight. BUT I am joining them this year. I will be the first to admit that I have become lazy since my children are old enough to entertain themselves. Not having a lot of money now, its much easier to just buy unhealthy snacks because they are always cheaper than the healthy ones. This year I want to stop buying the junk foods and start buying the healthy things that will help my family and I.

Next New Year’s Eve we’ll dump out the jar and be reminded of all the happy moments through the year. I guess I’ll be shopping for a jar, and maybe some pretty notepaper!

    • Sara Mac

I have started clean-eating! I’m not stressing myself out to stay on this plan like a normal resolution, but I have cooked more than ever this week and had “clean” leftovers” for lunch each day! I would love to buy my “clean” groceries at my local Kroger!

My New Years Resolution is to be more aware. With two job losses this past year 2012 was full of closing doors, so 2013 is bound to be better right?? Here’s to mustering through the lows and pushing forward to the highs!!!

    • Jennifer

My resolution is to invest some money, save for my two boy’s college funds, and save for something that I’ve been wanting for 15 years- dental implants! I plan to buy some silver coins for each of the boys.

    • Christyn

My resolution is lose weight (which is common) by adding cardio and toning workouts, and eating better instead of eating so much fast food. I work two jobs and just bought a house which involves a lot of unpacking and organizing, so my time is precious and money is still a bit tight. It’s too easy to justify spending a dollar at McDonalds for a quick cheeseburger each time I need to eat instead of going to the grocery store and spending $50+ at a time even though it will feed me for less per meal and be better for me! This gift card would get me started on my way to buying groceries instead of fast food, and would help me get into the habit of buying healthier before I can justify another fast-food run!

    • I’m not really a ‘resolution’ person, but my plan is to be the best helpmate to my husband; to lift him up and encourage him. I plan to do this by making (and sticking to) a meal plan, and to continue using deals and coupons to save our family time and money.

    • Well, I don’t have a specific resolution like I have so many years in the past. This year, I’m trying to be intentional about sharing Christ’s love with others in any way I can. I am an ESL teacher and I travel to 4 different schools a week. I come into contact with so many people who need to know the amazing God I serve and the love He has for them. I hope to do things that bring me closer to Christ, so that the world can see Him through me.

    • Cassandra

I don’t have do resolutions, but I do choose “my one word” for the year (idea at myoneword.org). My word for this year is peace (from 1 Cor. 14:33, God is not a God of disorder, but of peace) and I will be pursuing peace in my home, with my children, in my marriage, and in my ministry. While some of this is intangible, some of it will involve getting more organized and buying stuff to help with that!

We moved about a year ago and I have not gotten into using coupons with the new stores I have to shop at. I am determined to save on groceries this year so we can add more money to our disney vacation fund.

    • Chele

My resolution is to cook healthier meals for my family and to eat out (mostly fast food) less. I plan to do this by preparing extra food as I cook and freezing part of it. This way I can have a quick and healthy meal during those rushed evenings. I will have to make larger purchases of meat items at a time in order to make this work. Hopefully, I can offset the cost by not purchasing pre-packaged, processed foods. Wish me luck!

    • jill

    • T.Wyatt

This is the year that I stick to my resolution! I have given up Coca Cola. I will not be drinking Coke or any other soft drink for at least two months. I am dedicated to buying water. Not drinking sodas will help me lose my “belly fat”. Sugar will only slow me down. NO MORE SODA’S! I hope to have more energy by drinking plenty of water. With energy, I can exercise and stay healthy. 38 and loving it.
