I just finished my weekly walk through Kroger. While I didn’t go expecting to find huge hidden deals in the Cart Buster sale, I left very disappointed in Kroger advertising. So pardon me while I step on a soap box for a second… In case you didn’t already know the Kroger weekly ad is the one ad that you must use a lot of caution and discernment with. They are notorious for using bad advertising tactics and even marking up the same product week after week while still keeping it in the ad. This new “Cart Buster Sale” is just another example.  Lots of the “SAVE BIG” tags next to participating products show a savings of 10 cents or less. Really. I enjoy Kroger’s actual deals, but did they not learn the story of the Boy Who Cries Wolf in grade school?? People will stop even opening your weekly ad if you keep this up.

On a positive note. There is one deal that I will say is a very good savings. Kroger Cheese 16 oz., $2.50 ea (reg. $4.74). Now we are talking. (Except that there are coupons for Kraft…)

See the list of advertised deals.

Okay off my soap box and onto the few things I saw today, note a good number of them are repeats from last weeks list::

I always shop at Kroger and usually save $40 each week in coupons. For the past two weeks; however, I have been extremely disappointed. They have refused to accept coupons printed from my computer. They are not “copied” just printable. It seems that regardless of what their Kroger policy is, they can do whatever they want from store to store. Anyway, now I am on my soapbox…

      • Britras
        • JC

Thanks!! I have tried to show them their own policy, but like Jan Kellar said, the cashier can seemingly do whatever they want. I think I'll try them for one more week and see what happens! Keep your fingers crossed :)

      • Jan Kellar

I have also had problems with coupons at Kroger. I have contacted them several times in an attempt to learn exactly what their coupon policy is. The local refuses to post anything to tell you exactly what the policy is, so each cashier enforces whatever they choose. On their website, their is no coupon policy.

        • Britras
        • Abbie Michaels

I emailed Kroger to ask them about their policy regarding the ecoupons a few weeks back. They replied with their full coupon policy for the southern stores. I can forward a copy to you if you like.

          • New2Qs

I would be interested to see that. I sent an email about a week ago and I haven't heard anything back yet : (
Same problem with the coupons. They'll take a “free” item coupon that is NOT printed from the internet but they won't take a BIGI coupon that IS printed from the internet. How weird is that?

    • Chandashel

I've been disappointed in the lack of deals lately. I hope they bring the deals back soon.

    • Coupondiva02

There is also a $1/1 Speed Stick or Lady Speed Stick Coupon in the Kroger insert flyer from the AJC 8/29. I'm not sure about other newspapers. The insert had several different manufacturer coupons including Starbucks Ready Brew, Colgate,Scott Tissue Paper, Shake 'N Bake, etc. and a Kroger coupon for Greek Yogurt.

      • Jen

We received that too (Wichita, KS)! I was happy because Speed stick is the only deodorant my husband will use!

    • lyssibee

A few more things on closeout at Kroger (I am in SE region, Atlanta area):

Mezzetta Roasted Red Peppers, 8 oz, $1.39

Mezzetta Mexican Hot Chili Peppers, 16 oz., $1.39

      Mezzetta Mexi-hot Veggie Mix, 16 oz, $1.49

      – .50 off any Mezzetta product – found in All You magazines (April, June & August) **note: one of the barcodes starts with a 9 and does not double

Mount Olive Sweet Petites Pickle Pak, $1.49

      – .50 off Mt Olive product – found in 8-1 SS

I also was going to post the LandOLakes spreadable butter, but Jenny beat me to it :) LOL.

      Hope this helps!

      • lyssibee

Forgot to mention that the Mt. Olive pickle pak has a .75 off coupon inside the package for future purchases! Bonus!

      • AmandaK

There are also some Betty Crocker Warm Delights on the closeout deal, as well. They are $1.19 at my store, and I still had a few ecoupons for them ($.50)…got a good deal on the peanut butter and also the caramel flavor of these…very yummy and my kids love them!

    • Sally

Wish I could find the Special K Protein Water Mix at my Kroger… or any local store. I have to order it online.

      • Armywife74

Sally all the Krogers in the Savannah area have it. It is in the diet category which can be found either in the grocery aisle normally with cereal, cookies, or baking. Why I don't know or in the pharmacy aisle. It is with the other diet stuff like slim fast and Alli.

    • Hesperides

I have always been disappointed in Kroger. I so hate the repeated deals week after week. I use the coupons I want one week, and then can't use anything the next. Annoying.

      • Im4givenandblessed

I've always been disappointed in Kroger, also. The stores in my area are ridiculously high on items that are not on sale and I can get the same items that are on sale there at other local stores…I refuse to shop there.

    • Creativespiritcreations

kroger also had their brand tea on clearance for half off. a box that was usually 3.00 for 1.49!

    • Bonitareber

Thanks for all your hard work!

    • macboy

I guess it's similar to Albertson's B1G2 Free coupons on meat. The price on the first item is so ridiculously high that it almost makes up for what you are saving.

    • kayakgirl

When I click on Kroger's “coupon policy” it says I do not have permission to view draft. Does anybody know where I can get it?

    • Jeremy

Kroger really sucks. The way they treat people with coupons is rediculus. The cashiers have no clue, so do the managers. They are the worst in terms of grocery stores. At this rate they will not last very long. The best place to use coupons is either at Bi-Lo or Publix. They are the best. I shop at these stores even though they might have slightly higher prices than at Kroger on some items. Kroger better clean up their act soon. If not, they might just disappear.

      • Samantha White

If you think Kroger is bad, have you ever shopped at Food Lion or Winn Dixie? Talk about dirty stores, bad attitudes, and customer-no-service!

        • bridgetaileen

I agree. I would rather shop at Kroger with fake deals than shop at Food Lion's dirty stores and workers who seriously do not care.

      • Tigress1321

I used to be a die hard Kroger shopper (before I discovered couponing) and they have great prices if you are paying full price for things but I save about 75% at publix where I only save 50 % at kroger because publix takes competitor coupons where kroger does not. But my kroger does allow (or doesn't pay attention to) the e coupons combined with manufacture coupons.

      • Cullumosity

Here (Auburn, AL) our Krogers ROCK!! While they are not always the lowest price (that varies week to week), they do always offer great customer service- when I've been doing the buy x get $y off and they haven't worked for some reason, our managers have always been willing to make these right. Even to the point of doing the order again for me. I've only had one problem w/a coupon and that was YEARS ago. They definitely have my loyalty.

        • Rhemali

I'm in Atlanta area and I LOVE Auburn Kroger in Tiger Town! Whenever we head to the lake, I can't wait to stop there.

        • gardengirl

Do you use the one in Tiger town or at Glenn-Dean?

        • fan

          War Eagle!

      • Hesperides

Our store (Lebanon, TN) has great customer service – it's the “sales” I have issues with. The sales are like 10 cents off junk food and repeats every week. It's ridiculous.

    • Twhitley72

I must say as of yet I have had no issues regarding the use of coupons, even IP's. The store I shop is very coupon friendly! Yes you may can find some items cheaper at other stores, but once you use a coupon that doubles(if your store does) is it still cheaper?? You must always weigh your option that is the whole purpose of using coupons!! I always teach in my classes to NEVER buy from some stores unless the product is on sale. Even Wal-mart knows where to “get” you… it is the stuff you do not think about and do not price check. Kroger can not always have the best sales every week!!

    • charlesandcindy

I agree with your post. Every time I go into Kroger, their coupon rules change. It really irritates me. I've stopped getting so much fro Kroger and spend more time in Publix……

A Walmart employee tells me they now honor BOGO ads in the paper. Started that a few months ago. Haven't tried that a second time yet. We'll see.

My Kroger in Texas is amazing most the time. I don’t mind spending a few extra bucks to shop there and actually be treated like a human being. I have not noticed their advertising policies to vary in ethics from any other grocery store around here. Which does not make it right, but not exactly wrong either. Just gimmicky. My grocery bill is still lower than almost anyone I know and I shop my majority at Kroger. When I did come across a cashier refusing to honor a coupon policy, the corporate office was fantastic in fixing the miscommunication.

      Thanks for the deals!

Coupons.com has .35 off Martha White baking mixes under zip 80002. My store triples. May be close to free?

Captain crunch cereal 16 oz. on sale for $1.98 used a $.55 coupon which was doubled. Out of pocket cost was $.88

      • Samantha White

My Kroger (Southern Virginia) only doubles coupouns valued 50 cents to less. Anything over 50 cents remains at face value.

You're a pair of lucky shoppers!

      • thebigredpot

you must live in the Kroger Delta Region! :)

    • Corrine R.

Another Catalina starting today 9/6 – 10/3. Ozarka water – $3 on 3 or more.

      8oz (12 or 24pk),

      8oz with floride 8pks, or

      Aquapod (8 or 24pk).

These are all the small ones, great for kids lunches. The 8oz 12 pk is $2.19 at my store. Im in SE region (Shreveport)

    • I get frustrated because every cashier behaves differently with regard to coupons. I have had a couple of the cashier's manually cancel doubling on some of my internet printables that WERE NOT marked “do not double” for no apparent reason. Of course, it is hard to notice while they are actually ringing things up. I did notice once and wanted to ask about it, but was not in the mood for a hassle. I know who those cashier are now, and avoid them if at all possible. In general, at my store, the male cashiers rarely give coupons a second glance and I have never had trouble with the guys, so I go to them when possible.

    • ireneY

Some months, it's a struggle to spend $100 (before Qs) to get the 10 cent fuel discount. I am beginning to question the logic of buying all that shopping to save $1.20 a tank!

Comparing Kroger to Publix… not even in the same league! Kroger is so tacky and gimmicky with their signage and advertising. There's just no other choice in Atlanta. I sure miss Harris Teeter! I can't even step foot into Whole Paycheck for fear of the grand total at the register.

    • David

hi,,Jenny , just wanted to give you a heads up i went to my kroger in fort worth texas yesterday bought 6 ozarka waters fo 20.00 OOP. received 2 ,,2,00 cats plus there is a coupon 8/29 SS ,Purchase two (2) Ozarka 100% Natural Spring Water (24pk), Receive one (1) Gallon FREE not a bad price 2.67 each after cat plus 3 free gallons,, Ive tried to look it up but cant seem to find any info on it, oh ya many thanks for all you do you have reall helped my family save a ton of money these last two years

    • Lauram7

I couldn't agree more with Jenny. I have actually stopped shopping at Kroger because their ads are misleading and confusing. I am terrible at math as it is, and have a 3 and 5 year-old acting up when I am trying to figure out what the deals really are. The past two times I just gave up and left.

    • Dana E

The Kroger stores here in Raleigh are terrible! There is one less than a mile from my house that I refuse to shop at, the catalina machines are always broken at every single one in our area, and the sales vary so much between each store I can never find out what is really on sale and what isn't. The store by my house even has their own coupon policy that is different than the other stores – they've decided that since their store doesn't print out catalinas, they won't take them either. When I can track down their sales, it's difficult to find one that carries those items. Many many times I've gone in on a 10/10 sale and they have a very small selection of those marked items.

Food Lion and Kroger in our area are the two stores that I shop at the absolute least! I hated HT before coupons, and thought their prices were high, but after couponing, HT is by far the best place to go in our area. We don't have Winn Dixie, Publix, or Bi-Lo, so unfortunately I have to really stock up at HT when they have a good sale.

Kroger- get your stuff together! Learn decent management practices and implement them in ALL your stores (not just the rare good ones) and you'll see an improvement in traffic in your stores. Make a mandatory training session on customer service for your employees, which includes coupons, what and how to use a catalina machine, and how to be better members for your stores. Might sound like a no brainer, but you've been losing customers long before Jenny felt the need to express her frustrations.

    • Bethyb

After reading these posts I am thankful that I am not the only one who finds Kroger's cupon policy wishy-washy! All we have in this are is Kroger, so I am stuck shopping there regardless.

      • thebigredpot

Be thankful – I just moved to an area with ONLY walmart and my nearest Kroger store is an hour away. I miss it so much!

        • Tutibugs2

I'll pray for you the bigredpot. I am NOT a Wal-mart fan UNLESS I get something for free there. Maybe I feel like I'm sticking it too them even though they are technically getting it back from the manufacturer. I have found at my local Wal-mart though for such a big store. Most of their cashier's don't have a clue about coupons. I have had to correct them on several occasions. Sent the hubs one time and he didn't know. The cashier scanned only half of the Gillette Body Washes then scanned the B1G1 coupons I gave him AND the $2 off from P&G. That was weeks ago. He felt like he made out like a bandit but I told him actually their cashier just put a small dent in their loss prevention file. Good Day!!!

    • Jessie

What do you think the chances are at Kraft cheese will go .99 again at Kroger while the $5/5 Kraft coupons are still good? I'm debating on whether or not to bite the bullet and buy them for $1 at Publix….

    • Rebecca

Just got back from Kroger today and there is a HOT deal on Smart Balance milk (I'm in Atlanta). The 1/2 gallons are on sale for $3.29 each and there is a $1/1 blinkie right next to them. There is also a $2/1 Kroger e-coupon on the website, so that makes this $.29 for 1/2 gallon of Smart Balance. Not bad! I love me some free – or almost free – milk!!

      • ShelleySchu

I will check this out. I went last week when the sale changed and the regular Kroger milk is priced at $2.99. It is usually about $1.99 on special. Kroger must have had this bogus sale promotion and jacked up the prices of the milk to compensate.

    • Jessicaleighsutton

My Kroger (Warner Robins, GA) has the olay facial cleaning cloths for a closeout for $3.49. I had Q's for $1 off that I got from the PG insert. That makes them $2.49 for 30 cloths. I use these everyday, so that is great for me. They are usually $5.50 at walmart, which is usually the cheapest place!

    • Kat

Dawn Dishwashing Liquid was not on sale and even with the P&G coupon doubled at .50 – nothing special. However, there was an endcap item a few aisles down that was a double pack of Dawn still at $3.19. So, 2 bottles of Dawn with a coupon for $2.19 – that I could live with and enjoy!

    • Tutibugs2

I have to agree with everyone's annoyance with Kroger. It makes me slightly angry when I go to the Kroger that is closest to me and they limit you to 3 coupons on same items. This is the CRAPIEST Kroger I've been in. It always smells like seafood and it is so cramped you can barely maneuver a cart around. I can go a little bit further and all three Kroger's will accept as many as I have.
ALSO, Jenny posted a comment about stealing the peelie's off of things. I could have had 6 free Schick Shave Gels if it weren't for those Greedy people. Of course they even peeled the stickers off of the Schick Hydro 5 razors that weren't .70.
      Have a great day everyone.

    • Hasfam

There have been and comtinues to be large corporate lawsuits against Krogers over the years for false and misleading advertising practices. Krogers is the largest food chain in the US with very very deep pockets. Publix won me over about 3 yrs ago. So glad to not have to depend on Krogers. If I can get it free then I'm there, otherwise my normal shopping is elsewhere.

    • Creativespiritcreations

There is now a decent four day sale going on at Kroger starting today. didnt have a lot of time there.. but some of what i saw included: Bluebell icecream 3/$10.. A 10 oz Kroger shrimp tray for 1.99.. italian style sausage buy one get one free.. kroger frozen rising crust pizza buy one get one free. 5 lbs of potatoes 1.98.. peaches .98 lb .. and i am sure there are more gems in there, but it was a dash and grab trip

    • Kamarsh1

The manager at the Kroger closest to my house just informed me that they will only accept 2 printed coupons per day. That's not 2 per item, that's 2 total per day per person. He said it was Kroger Corporate policy. Guess I won't be shopping at that Kroger any more…
