My Starbucks Rewards is making a few changes to their program. The changes will start 10/16/12.  Many of the changes look like they are making it better!

The changes:

-Your Starbucks rewards will be loaded to your card rather than sent in a postcard. You will receive an e-mail when you earn one.

-You can use your free drink reward on any free drink or food.

-Gold members will earn their drink or food reward with 12 stars instead of 15.

-Syrups and soy milk will no longer be free. You will also no longer receive a free Tall beverage when you buy a bag of whole bean coffee. (This is the only not fun thing.)

You can go here to learn more about the Starbucks Rewards program.

What’s that I hear, America runs on Dunkin? I realize that some of the changes are appealing to some customer (electronic redemption, etc) however losing free syrups and soy is a major downside. I was spending $50 on BUX a month and will be no longer as I just don’t think it is worth it for the free drink. I pulled an old espresso machine out of the attic and now make my own latte. In the end I am saving money by breaking my ridiculous Starbucks habit. I do think this is a negative rather than positive change.

These changes are great for someone like me, who really gets Starbucks as a treat, not as a norm.  The free syrups and soy never affected my purchases, but to earn a free treat faster makes a difference.  :)

Can you still get a free tall if you bring in an empty bag of Starbucks coffee?

Apparently until 10/16 when the program changes and I think you have to have bought 5 drinks to get it with your rewards card.

Smart anti-obesity move for them to stop encouraging the use of all-sugar, no nutritional value syrups by giving them away.  Not that coffee is a health food, but that syrup is just a speed train to diabetes IMO.

I really liked their free drink w/ coffee bag purchase – how fun! It’s so expensive to begin with I thought it was a good deal!
