If your guilty pleasure is Starbucks, here’s just the ticket to have a little fun saving and earning perks through the My Starbucks Rewards system. To start, all you need is a Starbucks gift card (which I’m sure many of you got for Christmas!)  Go to My Starbucks Rewards online, make an account and register your card.

Starbucks gives you a lot of control with gift cards! You can add money to your card, or move cash around between different registered gift cards in your account.  If I get a card for my birthday or Christmas, I go in and register it to my account, and then move all the money onto the card that I always keep in my wallet so it’s all in one place.

Each time you make a purchase with your card at Starbucks, you get a star!  As you accumulate stars, the perks get better and better. Here’s the breakdown:

Welcome Level Perks (1-4 stars)

– Free drink on your birthday

Green Level Perks (5 stars +)

– All Welcome Level perks
– Free syrups and milk options for your beverage
– Free refills for brewed coffee or tea
– Free Tall (12 fl oz) beverage of your choice with whole bean purchase
– Free trial offers and updates

Gold Level Perks (30 stars+)

– All Welcome and Green Level perks
– Free beverage with every 15 stars you earn
– Special Customized Gold Level card
– Personalized offers and coupons

If you frequent Starbucks, this is the best way to save a little money!

O i love this program i go to starbucks every morning!!!! It is so amazing

    • Kpdeavers

This is not specifically about the Starbucks Reward program- just fyi- if you buy bags of Starbucks coffee at grocery/retail stores, your empty bag can be taken to a starbucks store and it is good for one tall brewed coffee. The offer is printed on the bag. You may already know about it, but may be worth sharing again.

Another heads up, if you are buying more than one thing…separate transactions means more stars. You get a star for each transaction :)

I work at Starbucks and would recommend buying a Caramel Macchiato biscotti on a separate transaction when you go for your coffee. Not only are they delicious, but they only cost $1 and they give you another star which brings you closer to your next free beverage. (And they are wrapped so they can be consumed then or later.)

This is a great program that is so under-utilized! I have customers who save .90 per drink when they use their card! (free soy/free syrup= .90 savings!)

Thank you. I got to Starbucks A LOT and am always thrilled to get a little something extra from them. :-)

Panera just started a rewards program too.

I have been using this program since 2008 and for me its amazing… when you purchase a coffee you get free refills for at least two hours…. and for me since i only drink tea, I can buy one ice tea and get free refills. Its wonderful.. If you want to get into gold real fast here is a tip, you can pay separate for each drink or for the baked goods. Each time you swipe you get one point…so if your buying 3 drinks ask to pay for each one separate and you will get 3 points instead of just one for paying together.
