Did you know that on average today’s pork cuts have 16% less fat than 21 years ago?  That’s my random fact I learned this week.  Actually pork is great lean protein choice.

This week Publix has Bone-in pork roasts on sale (through 2/15 in some areas).  There are a number of things you can do with a pork roast that are healthy and delicious.

Here are some of my favorite ideas from the Pork website:

Pork Roast with Sweet Potatoes, Pears and Rosemary
Orange-Glazed Pork Roast
Cajun Pork Roast

Cinnamon Pork Roast
Cranberry-Onion Pork Roast
Garlic-Herb Roast Pork

We had a hard time deciding what to make.  My husband loves anything with cranberries, but I pushed him to try something new.  So we ended up making the Pork with Pears and Sweet Potatoes.  I made one mistake and bought the wrong kind of pears (our Publix didn’t have Bosc pears) if you have to substitute you want a firmer pear so that it doesn’t turn to mush.

I also learned the hard way that bone in roasts take a lot longer to cook.  We ended up having to put the kids in bed and ate dinner around 10 that night…  It was delicious though!
