Has anyone tried Smart Balance Milk? How does it compare to regular milk. Thanks.

      • Brandi

We drink 2% milk and it tasted just fine to me however my husband didn't like it and said it was milk water…lol

      • I've been a heavy milk drinker all my life, and unlike soy and almond milk, I can highly recommend Smart Balance. It's good tasting stuff.

      • Snowski824

We always buy a lot of it when it's really cheap and the only difference that I have noticed is that it's a little sweeter than normal milk. However, it's not a huge difference.

      • My husband loves this better than cows milk! I typically buy skim milk, and if you buy the Smart Balance fat free milk that has the Omega 3s (the Vitamin E one has more calories), it is low in calorie like regular milk, plus, as they claim, it tastes like 2%. It is rich and creamy.

Freezing doesn't work so well….however, the expiration dates are usually further than regular milk, so you can stock up if you've got the space in your fridge.

        • Someday273

Freezing works great. If you don't let the milk thaw completely before drinking it will come out a little watery. I shake it every morning till I no longer hear any ice chips in it – you will never be able to tell it was frozen

      • Em_7984

I love it! I was leary of it at first, but when I found out I could get it free one time, I decided to try it. It taste's just fine, however it does smell kind of funny. I think that is due to the fact that it has fish oils in it. (I don't know if they all do, but a few of them I'm sure. It'll say it on the carton.)

      • Jenn

It is slightly salty. I grew up on a dairy farm and also think skim milk is water!

        • Carla C

Lol I grew up on powdered milk. To this day I hate milk and only drink it w/ my cereal. Guess we have come a long way since then lol

        • gardengirl

I live on a old dairy farm (we got out of the dairy business 10 years ago). I agree..skim milk tastes like water.

      • cmillersc

I get Smart Balance every time I can get a good deal. Tastes great, and I particularly like the Fat Free with Omega 3's.

      • PANELOPEBARNABUS

We loveee it. And it's healthier. AND it's cheap with coupons! I would suggest you at least try it out!! =)

      • Carla C

I have a 4 year old that drinks milk like we own the cow. She never notices a difference when I buy SB rather than regular milk. I buy it for her and then buy reg. milk for cooking so that it evens out. I'm hoping the Hood milk is going to go over just as smoothly lol

      • grace

it is really good, the fat free tastes like 2%

    • Ilovewdw

love the cheap milk! thanks for sharing!

    • Mandy

Man, I want to be able to get that many groceries for that much money!!

      • ireneY

Keep in mind, some couponers have a stockpile so they are only getting the deals for that week and not necessarily ingredients for meals; such as ramen, deodorant and bathroom cleaner — not exactly a well balanced diet!

        • That is THE POINT of Super couponing tho.

        • Kristy

At the beginning of every month I plan a tentative monthly meal menu. I then go ahead & do the “big” shopping for the month. This is usually when I spend the most money. I then go to cvs & Walgreens each Sunday & stock up on the deals. I hit Publix on Wednesday for the b1g1 deals (with cpns). This strategy has helped me save so much money. I also think the trick is to stock up When items are very low priced & that way you never have to truly buy anything full price.

    • YES!!! Smart Balance milk!

      • mumz2girlz

That Smart Balance milk is the best milk I've ever had and I never usually buy that kind of milk. My whole family loves it!

        • Lkillootr

Have you had any trouble with it being fishy? I've bought it and my mother brought some and it was disgusting. Apparently it has some issues during transport and if it gets a little hot the omega 3 breaks down and gives it a fishy smell and taste. I have had this happen recently and then some that went bad quickly after opening (about 2 days) and had a nasty taste. I thought it would be a great way for my kids to get omegas but I'm sticking with hood milk.

          • Jackie113

I had that happen too. Now I’m a little leery about getting it again.

      • Bryarsmom

Last time they were BOGO I took the advice from folks on here and froze some. Works prefectly! I brought some into the office today that I'd froze weeks ago-LOVE IT!

        • Anne

What did you freeze it in if you don't mind me asking?

        • Kelly

I did that with the Silk Soymilk (I LOVE the very vanilla!!) a couple of weeks ago when it went on sale. I stored three in my deep freezer and just opened the last one. It thaws out fine and tastes the same!

        • CouponNERD

Has anyone ever frozen half and half? There's a good deal at Kroger this week and I have 4 coupons but can't keep that many in my poor overful fridge!

        • Snellmom

The expiration date on those things are so far out that I don’t need to freeze it. Granted we do go through about 3 gallons of milk a week.

    • Kb

what did Amy get and what were her coupon match ups?

      • She helps me make the Publix list each week (sitting next to me my toy room) so she used the Publix list and a $6 off $60 Kroger coupon.

      • Amy B.

        I bought:

        (2) Oscal 75 ct. at $4
        (3) Yoplait Fiber One Yogurt at $1.25
        (2) Smart Balance Milks at $3.59
        (2) Post Cereals at $1.90
        (1) New York Ciabatta Rolls at $1.64
        (2) Idahoan Potatoes at $1
        (1) Coffee Mate Holiday Flavor at $1.50
        (2) Old El Paso Green Chiles at $1.27
        (2) Sominex at $3.19
        (2) Olivio Spreads at $1
        (2) Rubbermaid products at $1.67
        (2) Rubbermaid bottles at $2.09
        (2) Mahatma Valencia Rice at 99¢
        (1) Tangerines at $2
and a couple other non coupon items to get my total to $60.
I used a $6/$60 Kroger coupon I got in the mail and the rest of the coupons are all listed in Jenny's posts. I had 50¢ printables from last month that doubled on the old el paso and overage from rubbermaid, oscal and sominex brought my total down too. All in all I had $26 in store coupon $26.30 in manufacturer coupons and $26.33 saved from sales. Total spent $3, total saved $78.63!

Hope this helps. Thanks Jenny, for the great matchups and making it so easy to save! Glad I could help with a couple extra deals :)

        • Kb

          Thank you!

        • Freemn4

Wow Amy! Way to go! :)

        • Dvmeador

How do I get Kroger coupons?

    • branchofthevine

I got the Toy Story 3 movie for $9.99! It was on sale for $14.99, and they have a $5 coupon at the service desk, green flyer, for any movie. Only until 11/5!

      • Sshoulders

There is also an $8 coupon out there. Can we use that, too?

        • Actoney

No, the $8 coupon is for the DVD/Blue Ray combo pack and the one on sale at Publix is just a DVD.

    • Kmd20ts

My Publix has really started cracking down on Coupons too. I can now only use a competitor store coupon that is within 5 miles of my store. Very sad.

    • Laurencuth

Quick question – if I have a coupon that says save $1.50 wyb 3 of an item, can I use three of that same coupon for those three items?

      • amy

no, you can only use one of those coupons per three items purchased.

      • Kb

no, but it makes 50 cent items free! you can use 1 coupon for every 3 items.

      • Cindyd

        Hi Lauren,

        No. :(

wyb three, you get $1.50 off the total.

In order to use 3 coupons, you would need to buy 9 items.

1 coupon for each group of three.

        Cindy

    • Suz

There is no link for the Food Lion coupon for Coffee Mate…am I missing something?

    • LuvLex4

My Publix NEVER has anything but the Green and Yellow Advantage Flyers. Please can someone direct me to how I can get the others, like the Harvest of Savings one?

      Thanks!

      • Exclr8sb

I went to the customer service desk at Publix and they said that they were all out. Been everywhere and can't seem to get it.

      • Freemn4

It may depend on where you live. I have been abe to get them at the customer service desk at my store in Summerville, SC.

      • same here how do i get one???

      • Snellmom

I'm in Atlanta, and I tend to get most of these in the newspaper with the other Sunday coupons. The booklets are there. I finally clued into this fact a couple months ago. I haven't seen it in the AJC, but we were gone for 2 weeks in Oct, so not sure if it came out at that time. I'm going to see if my Publix has them when I go today.

    • Jdavis4

      What are college savings?

      • lisanrse

        Upromise –

      • gardengirl

I think you are refering to Upromise? Jenny explains it in her teaching/learning sections. You sign up and select e-couipons to be added to your store(s) cards (Publix has a Upromise card – just ask for it). It is like Kroger's e-coupons except the amount doesn't come off your total, instead it is added to a saving account that can be used for college. I signed up using my name to help w/ my grandkids college education. Jenny has a like to Upromise. Friends and relatives can also save for your kids (or your) college education thru Upromise. I hope this helps.

      • kenia

could you tell me wich one is the harvest of saving booklet? or could you tell me where can I find it?

        thank you!

        • MarySC1000

The booklet is a little smaller than the green and yellow advantage flyers. It has a brown cover and a photo of a girl with a crocheted hat. My usual Publix store said they never got them and now probably never would.

      • grace

Jenn, I could use some smartbalance coupons, we don't get them on our paper.

      • Paulakay72

This has been on a Bogo sale a few times. I'm guessing it will be again with this coordinating store coupon. Saving mine til the store coupon gets ready to expire! ;)

      • Ritabennett0816

      • KNM

I got mine at customer service

      • Karen

I have these booklets to trade.
KarMoral9@aol.com if anyone wants to trade just e-mail me.

      • gardengirl

My store had a cardboard display set up right inside the first door at one of the entrances but not at the other. If I hadn't stop to speak to a friend I probably would not have seen it. It's a brownish color cardboard display.

      • itismedia

If you haven't found it yet, try customer service. Many stores have started hiding them back there because some couponers find it acceptable to grab them all. They will then hold onto them to trade, sell them on e-bay or use all the coupons to buy up the items and then sell them for profit at yard sales and flea markets. IMO none of these things are ethical and they are what I call “greedy-Greedies” and not true couponers. I believe the rule of 2 applies. Pick up two of any coupon/coupon book. If they are still there next week, get two more. It is a shame that the stores are having to regulate adults that cannot seem to regulate themselves. Hopefully your CS keeps them but away and you can find one. HTH

The promo code is BOGOWGW . Jenny wrote that right beside the coupon info.

        Hope it helps.

Click on the area that says enter the code and you can type it in.

    • LG

Is this the one that starts tomorrow?

    • Gapeachlm

I just got back from my first Publix shopping trip after the Extreme Couponing class and I paid 62.56 for 146.32 worth of groceries for a savings of 83.76!! This class has changed the way I shop for groceries. Thank you so much Jenny for this class and website. My Publix had pull off sticker coupons on the Aleve that is on sale for $1 off and .55 blinkie coupons in the frozen foods for the B1G1 New York frozen breads.

    • AUGRAD1996

Jenny, thanks so much for all you do. I read today that General Mills is having to raise prices because their costs have increased. I am sure other companies are soon to follow due to inflation that is headed our way. Through couponing my family will continue to have lower than average grocery bills compared to many others. We really appreciate YOU!!!!

    • His_mother27

I dont get it. How can one get $79 worth of groceries for $3??

      • That's what sites like these are for. lol. Teaching you to reduce your amount of out of pocket. I started shopping like this two years ago and rarely spend more than $5 a week on groceries! (And I live in an area where we have 7.75% food tax).

By matching coupons with sales, you stock up on items when they are free or barely pennies, and never pay full price.

        Wecome to Extreme Couponing.

        • ChrissyPunkin

Do you buy meat? How can you keep your costs so low? Milk, meat, and produce are my biggest budget-busters. Everything else I can get for cheap, but not as low as $5 a week.

          • Beth

Of course most folks buy meat. But, meat isn't a weekly shopping item for me – I stock-up when prices are super low on meat and freeze what I don't use immediately. I see people who spend outrageous (in my opinion) amounts of money on meat and sadly, Publix is just really an expensive place purchase meat (again, my opinion). Besides catching regular sales on specific types of meat and stocking-up, I also buy meat that has been marked down due to the fact that it is nearing its sell-by date. Tastes the same and freezes just the same, too.

In this very post, Jenny outlines the coupons necessary for buying milk on the cheap, haha. Look at the last item on her list. I see prices like this, after the use of coupons, frequently for milk.

Are you buying fresh produce? Free or nearly frozen vegetables are very common – I can't even tell you how many boxes or bags of free frozen vegetables I have in my freezer. I don't really love canned veggies, but this week, Green Giant canned veggies are on sale and with coupons, the price comes out to about 14 or 15 cents a can.

            • Lila

Sounds so healthy..frozen over fresh, old meat over fresh…Canned over fresh….

No thank you. Nothing is worth eating junk (old meat to me= junk, canned anything=junk…but just my opinion)

            • Megortiz63

You can get produce cheap or free – right now Target has $1 off produce if your Publix accepts it as a competitor.

And Marzetti dips has a $2 off apples WYB dip tearpad that I picked up last week, so if you look, you can save on fresh too!

            • Bonnie

harveys also has a $1/$3 produce coupon which can be used at Publix.

            • Deborah_M

I don't buy bulk meat to freeze either. I don't eat a lot of meat and my husband is happy with sausages, pork, whatever goes on sale. I only buy the things (on sale each wk with coupons) we will actually eat. I am a beginer at this and we are enjoying it but I am not “crazy over coupons” yet. It can be fun!

            • tGfc

Sometimes buying meat close to expiration and freezing and buying frozen veggies over fresh is a necessity ~ and if it means staying off food stamps and keeping the power on, then I am willing to do it. My family much prefers fresh veggies and I do have a small garden, but I am still learning and do not get enough to supply all our needs. I am glad for you that (it seems to me) you are not at a point where coupon-ing is a necessity. God willing, I will get back to that place again.

            • Themartins55

Why would you even need to go back to “that place again?” You're saving money…why give it away if you don't have too? Keep saving!!! :)

            • Mlsshartz

Unless you only by local produce…your produce is already old. That pineapple you bought is not new. From the time it's picked, shipped to the U.S. it's old. That apple…sprayed with chemicals to make it last to up to a year. Unless you buy your meat from the local co-op your meat is already up to 2 years old. It's been sitting in a freezer warehouse. I worked for a Health food company. Unless you get it first hand….it's old!!!!

            • ChrissyPunkin

I have five young children, so we drink at least a gallon of milk a day. I buy it all at Sam's Club. I buy as much fresh produce as I can to encouage them to eat it for snacks. My kids won't touch canned vegetables, but they will eat a few frozen kinds. I still find spending less than $5 a week pretty unbelievable, but good for you.

            • Nuismommy

By Saving SO much on the staples i can afford to buy produce and meat fresh. meat and produce are my weekly purchases and all the other stuff i stock up on when it is super cheap. i got 6 boxes of of pasta for free last week. Actually, it was B1G1 with a price of $1.79 and i used 6 $1 off coupons so i ended up making 63 cents. you don' have to go crazy to save hundreds

            • Jamleah

I don't know how realistic $5 a week is, but I have 3 kids and our budget is $30 a week. That includes all staple items… bread, meat, fruit, veggies, etc. I've been couponing for about 4 years and when I first started our budget was about $10-15 a week (but that was when we only had one child).

    • Dinasgulledge

where do you get the Harvest of savings booklet?

      • mamasmo

It's in the front of the store, near the entrance….or from the customer service desk.

    • Sharinahilton

found at publix the Lachoy creations for $2.50 not on sale remember that i had 2 $1.50q's super excited cause then i also remebered theres a try me free rebate !!! payed a $2 for 2 and can get refunded up to $3.89 back !!!!

    • Cindy

Here's a helpful tip to help to save you some time (pls forgive me if you have already figured this out) –

      – go thru Jenny's list and click on the boxes to create your shopping list
      – click on “create list” – which will open in another window
      – then read thru the comments sections and if any other good deals or tips are posted by readers, cut and paste them into the spaces next to the little green crosses on your list
      – Now print shopping list…

I've found that if I try to just remember all of the extra tips on my own, I will most likely forget them (let's hear it for middle age…….anybody?…).

      • Pat

I really appreciate Jenny's list – it is so helpful. Just about the only thing that would make it even better for me, if I may respectfully offer a suggestion, would be to change the headings that group the items to better reflect their actual location in Publix, rather than by what type of sale they are on – either that or allow the reader/user to move individual items around on the list before printing, rather than entire sections.

I am pretty sure that most Publix put their items in the same sections, even if the location of those sections may differ slightly from store to store. When I use the current list the way it is now, I find myself walking back and forth in the store to get items that I missed in one section because they printed out in a different section on the list – or I have to keep scanning the entire list while I am in each section to make sure that I have not missed something.

I can understand the benefits of grouping like-sale items together for events such as the mega-events at Kroger where you want to buy a certain number of mega-event items to qualify for the sale, but since Publix does not do those types of sales, that benefit would not apply.

        • carrie

After I click the boxes and “create” my list, I then right click the mouse and click on “select all”, I then right click again and click on “copy”. I then go to Microsoft Word and open a new document. I go to the settings for this document and select “narrow margins” and 3 columns. I then right click the mouse and click on “paste”. This brings Jenny's list onto the word document that I can then manipulate any way I want. I cut and paste items in the order my store is set up, I go back to the comments section on Jenny's site and if there is anything I want to remember I “copy” and “paste” it onto the word document whereever I need it to go, I undo all the bold type (waste of ink for me) and make all the color ink turn black, I change the font to Century Gothic (supposidly this uses less ink than the other fonts) and font size to 9 and lastly, I go through and delete whatever wording on Jenny's list I don't need (for ex: once I've found and Q and cut it, I don't need the SS and date info on my list anymore so I delete it). This enables me to change Jenny's list to suit my needs and saves ink and paper.

Found a great deal on Krusteaz cookies yesterdayat Publix. They were already buy1 get one free but also had 55 cents off on each box. I got six boxes for about $.60 a box. Always looks in the back for item with stick coupons on them.

has anybody else been saving the P.F.Chang coupons and waiting for a deal? I have the Publix one (exp 11/30) from awhile back and the mfg ones (exp 12/5) and I thought for sure that Publix would be putting them on sale soon…. I was disappointed to see no PF Chang on this week's list.

      Anyone have any insights?

LOL, Jack- great minds think alike! I missed the Publix q, but have printable Target (-$1.50 exp 11/13) and mfg (-$2). I will be waiting for Jenny's post this week see if my plan materializes…..

    • Yay for Publix! I spent $37 & saved $144! (And used 68 coupons-holy cow!)

Our South Florida Publix recently changed their policy and is no longer taking Target coupons because they are not a “true grocery store”, which is ridiculous. We don't get doubled manuf. coupons here either, so I'm really disappointed in this policy.

We don't have any other grocery stores in our area now that Winn Dixie went out of business. Does anyone know whether Publix will take other grocery store coupons, even if we don't have them locally? Thanks!

I also live in central florida and they still take Target coupons in my area stores. You can also try Albertsons or Sweetbay coupons since we have those in Florida too. I wish I could be of more help to you. I also hate the fact we dont double coupons here. I would love just one time to be that person to spend $3 for $75 worth of food.

Coffee-mate facebook page has a $1.00 coupon for any 15oz or larger.

    • Deborah_M

I just went to our Publix (Fort Myers,FL) and Barilla Pasta BOGO excluded Barilla Plus, and the printable coupon was for Barilla Plus only. I tried to be sneaky and used coupon anyway but shop at your own risk if you have picky store cashiers.

Anyone have extra Publix “Flu is Ready are you” books that they'd like to pass along or trade?

    • Lnc1982

There all also marie dip coupons that are located in the store beside the dips for a 1$ off — just to let you know sorry dont speak coupon language :)

But I did use those :)

      @ Cindy,

I hadn't thought of that! Excellent tip, thanks so much for sharing it!

Someone please help me understand this. I went today and there were no packages with the coupon on them but I am going to ck my other Publix. How are we able to use 2 manufactures coupons?

-$1 off Uncle Ben’s coupon on most packages
-B1G1 Uncle Ben’s Whole Grain White Rice, (promo code BOGOWGW) PRINTABLE
(buy 2, use both coupons, makes it 49¢ ea)

      • Kristin

The B1G1 coupon only applies to one item, you can use another coupon for the “free” item.

Thank you for my free Coffee Mate!!!!! The only sad part is that my Publix has stopped taking Target coupons otherwise I would have gotten Glad Trash Bags for $1.99. I just started my Southern Savers addiction last week after attending one of your workshops and I must say it makes it a little easier to be a home schooling mom when I am saving so much!!! Thank you Jenny you are the greatest!!!

    • Kathryn Anders

Has anyone found the Kelloggs coupon book? I can't seem to find it anywhere!!!

    • Pauline

Just wanted to let everyone know that if you live within zip code 30549 our local Publix does not accept Target coupons. They did two weeks ago but when I went last Sunday I was told they had not accepted Target coupons in over a year. Talk about confusing.

    • Lesli

I'm new to couponing and am curious if Publix will take the Kroger coupons given at the end of your checkout?

      • Bbrewer

It all depends on the store… We don't have a Kroger in our area so our Publix doesn't accept their coupons.

      • Angela D.

        yes they do!

    • Maryhwest

I live in Atlanta and we've been to two different Publix grocery stores. They won't let us double any coupon or stack any coupon, nor will they take ANY competitor coupons. We're only saving $15-20 per trip, and I know we could do better- but Publix is cracking down like crazy on EVERYTHING. Any tips from you guys?

      • Micahsue

Call Publix corporate. Their customer service reps are GREAT and they will be GLAD to retrain the managers in your store regarding the coupon policy!

    • Homeisthebeachnow

Every time I go to Publix the coupon rules change. Very frustrating.
