I love Publix, but it really irritates me that a Florida based store doesn’t have the same deals in Florida as in other states!  No double coupons, no penny items.  Grrrr…still love my Publix, though.

I am sorry you do not benefit from the penny deal or the dbl coupons, but I have to say FL put out the best grocery store to shop at.  I am a new Publix convert and drive 20 miles to get to the nearest store.  Shopping is a pleasure at Publix!!

I am envious of Florida’s 0% grocery tax as opposed to Tennessee’s 9.75% grocery tax…grrrr

I’m just as jealous.  In Trussville, AL the sales tax is now 10% on groceries.

That being said…  Just got done at Publix and saved over 50% on my groceries for well over 2-3 weeks of food, including stocking up to 6 weeks on milk and cereal, a whole turkey, two whole chickens, and a few pounds each of lean ground beef and chicken breasts.  Final total was just over $100 with $105 in savings.  Not bad, and I got my hot dogs, too!

              gotta love coupons!

          • Mira McClanahan

I think I would still stick with the sales tax as opposed to state income tax.

Sadly, the penny item has turned into the $.76 item, since I would have to pay for a paper to get it.  Not such a good deal anymore.

I have to buy the wednesday paper for $1.00 to get the penny item :( this really stinks!

check your local coffee shops and diners where the retired folks hang out and read the paper. They probably discard their paper (coupons and all) after reading it with their morning coffee. Just an idea. Sometimes the waitress will hold them for you at the counter until you can make it in. Just a money saving idea:) and most people are happy to help with that, especially if you pay them in Publix Penny Items:)

Ask at the service desk. My Publix keeps extra penny coupons at the service desk and happily gives them to you if you ask.  They don’t advertise that they do it, but a cashier told me about it and it’s worked ever since.

Let your subscription to the paper expire.  When you renew again – look for the deal that gives you the Thursday paper for free. Got it about 6 weeks ago from Groupon when Jenny posted it. YEAH!

All of the Publix stores in Atlanta do not require that you have the coupon.  The cashiers just keep one at the register and scan that one.

My Publix at 9pm last night was out of the penny item.  They subbed with a small bottle of Ken’s Salad Dressing.

They were also out of a few other sale items, so I decided to skip most of my list.  Got hubby a sandwich, and 4 boxes of Dominos light brown sugar.  Enough to redeem the penny Q and head home for the night.  Will try again w/ the rest of my list – and $3/30 Q – on Saturday morning.
