We hate wasting food. To avoid waste, one solution is to have a box on the top shelf, at the front of the fridge labeled “Eat First Box”. You can then place food that will expire soon in that box.

Since it is at the front it is convenient and reminds you to eat those items. It is also fun to try to come up with recipes using those items!

Great idea! I need one of these in my freezer too.

I always make a weekly meal plan using “existing” food in my pantry/freezer 1st. That way I am not buying another item of “perishable” food. But, this box idea (or maybe a separate shelf in my pantry!) sounds like a smart idea.

SMART , SMART IDEA! Useful for so many.

I can really take a lesson from this. I served a container of mustard the other day for a big barbeque dinner. The mustard looked off color (I didn’t see it at first). I had misread the expiration date. It was about two yrs ago. Talking about being embarrassed!

mustard stays good well past the expiration date. I have used some that was a year old. Try making BBQ sauce out of it if you have any more to use up

Great idea! Though, coming up with a recipe to incorporate many of the ingredients would be HARD…my family all likes such different things. Mom won’t eat green peppers, Aidan won’t eat green peppers, onions, tomatoes…..and on and on…and dad won’t eat pineapple, but Aidan is addicted to it. It’s SUCH a pain! I have foods for each of them. And, meat, don’t get me started! But, I may try 3 small boxes…one for each of them. My stuff doesn’t typically go bad, because I rotate it well.

Good idea! With just the two of us, it seems like we always are wasting food… :/ This may help!
