I don’t normally post recalls, but a few items we regularly get for free have recently been recalled.  If you have any Excedrin, No Doz, Bufferin & Gas X Prevention be sure to check to see if your product is being recalled.

Novartis Consumer Health is recalling select bottles of Excedrin and NoDoz that are expiring December 20, 2014 or earlier. They are also recalling select Bufferin & Gas X Prevention that is expiring December 20, 2013 or earlier.

You can see all of the impacted products.

The products may contain stray tablets from other products or broken and chipped tablets.

If you have a product that is part of this recall discontinue use and return them to Novartis Consumer Health for a full refund.

You should contact the Novartis Consumer Relationship Center at 1-888-477-2403 (available Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time) for information on how to return the affected products and receive reimbursement.

You can also get a form to obtain a refund.

If you need to replace these items this week,  see the current deals at CVS, Rite Aid or Walgreens.

My local news (Greenville SC) said the expiration date for excedrine is Dec. 20, 2014. Can you verify which date is correct? You listed it as 2012. Thanks!

      • Heather

It said Dec. 20,2014 or earlier for the Excedrin and NoDos on the Novartis website.

I haven’t had a chance to check my stash of Excedrin (which I feel like was free a LOT the last few months at CVS, I know I have at least 3 or 4 unopened bottles), but looking at the refund form it appears they are giving you the MSRP.  So if any of the bottles I got for free are included in the recall, it became a moneymaker!  Hopefully no one was harmed by the production errors that caused this recall though.

Thank you for posting this Jenny.

i can not find the year anywhere on the bottle. is anyone else having this issue?

      • Jrsashar

never mind…i thought the year was the date

    • Kcreviews

Thanks, Jenny. I had a bottle in my cabinet.

In case anyone has more than one bottle like me, I called, and they ask you to fill out one form for each bottle (I have 8!), and you can ship them all together, still receiving $2 per bottle for shipping. Filling out the forms now, does anyone know what the NDC# is? Is this another name for UPC? And THANKS to Jenny for letting us know about this!

Duh, lol, it’s in the instrucions…front label, above the brand name, starts with “NDC”. I must need a break, lol.

I see the NDC code on the box,but i don’t see where it’s needed on the form. Could you let me know what i’m missing, please?

          • Anonymous

Towards the bottom of page 1, under Package Size. NDC#, then Lot#. Does yours have it?

            • atlantashopper

nope.  My form goes from package size to UPC, then Lot #.  Strange.

Is it necessary that we call to let them know we’re sending in bottles? I tried calling and it let me go due to the high volume of calls. Can we just send them in without notifying them?

      • Anonymous

I think you can just mail them. When I called, the auto-info while holding said to check the website for return info, lol.

I have 33 bottles of Gas-X prevention that expires before Dec 2013.  I have 3 bottles expried Dec 11.  I guess I can’t do the 3 bottle ones.  I can’t fine NDC# for Gas X Prevention though.  Can anyone help?

      • ab

Wow–you must get a lot of gas!

      • Anonymous

I couldn’t find a NDC on the Gas-X Prevent, it was on the Excedrins though.

    • Cindyblye

I’m sending even the recently expired bottles.  I also can’t find the NCD for a couple and will call them tomorrow.  One tip for those who have multiple bottles (I have 11): convert the pdf to a word doc and just open a copy for each bottle and then change the info.  Much easier than hand writing each one.  I actually cut and pasted each one so that I didn’t have to keep retyping my basic info.

      • Kelvinator70

I look and look for NDC for GAS-X prevention but no luck.  Maybe it doesn’t have one?

Is this a nationwide recall, or local recall? I live in Maryland.  Thank you for making us aware of this.

      • Lana

It is nationwide/  It was on the local news tonight.

Sorry to post an unrelated message, but I noticed you’re from MD and I’m moving to Batimore County in a few weeks.

I’ve been visiting Southern Savers for a few years now and really like the format. Do you know of any comparable websites for MD stores like Giant, Safeway, Shop Rite, and Wegman’s? I’ve looked online but the sites I found don’t post consistently and the lists aren’t comprehensive. For example, one site’s Harris Teeter matchup had about 15 items this week, whereas this site had 3 long lists.

Any tips you provide would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! :)

I have two bottles that have been opened.  Are they excepting opened bottles or only unopened bottles?

      • Syndilew

        I meant accepting, sorry!

    • Denise

Ok if you don’t see any broken capsules or other pills that look different would it hurt to keep them??? I just bought some bottles of Excedrin yesterday and I don’t want to go thru the hassle of sending them back…will it kill me?? LOL

      • Cheryl

If in doubt, throw it out!

    • It says all excedrin except 2,6, or 10 count…. so I would need to send 8 count back??

      • Anonymous

Yep, I had 4 things of 8 ct and sent them as well.

    • Anonymous

Wow, I had probably 12 or so. I filled out one form for each variety I had. I hope that was okay. Some of the same varieties had different expiration dates but I indicated it on each one. The number they gave was busy so I couldn’t call.

    • Christi

Do I have to send the bottle back? On the form it sounds like you can just mail the form, but somewhere else they made it sound like you have to send the actual bottle back.

    • I just got through to the hotline and they said you send the bottle back along with the form filled out for EACH bottle. They will reimburse $2 for shipping per consumer (so not per bottle). Also, they recommend you send back both opened AND unopened bottles. Hope this clears things up for some of you as well!
