It’s back!  On September 25th Smithsonian magazine is hosting its 6th annual Free Museum Day!  This applies to participating museums nationwide, not just the Smithsonian.  This day has lots of fun features attached to it – from special events and exhibits to podcasts from various museums!

If you’re looking for some free activities for your family, a date night, or some ways to work those brain muscles and learn something new, this day is bound to be something you’ll enjoy.  This is a wonderful opportunity for kids.  My girls love to learn and explore, so it’s great to take them someplace beyond the reaches of our backyard for free!

To get a free ticket, go here.  After you fill out the information and submit, a ticket will be sent to your email.  Make sure you print out your ticket to present on the 25th!  One ticket covers a household.

For updates and announcements regarding the event, follow Museum Day on Twitter or join them on Facebook.

The ticket is valid for 2 people only. One ticket per household.

I take advantage of the Bank of America museum on Us program and they do check ID for free tickets so keep that in mind.

Mine said for two people only as well, one ticket per household. Oh well.

Its not just Smithsonian. If you go to the website you can type in your address and it'll show you all the nearby museums that are participating. You can also search by state.

      This is a wonderful opportunity…

This is such a cool thing…I am very excited as a museum I have been wanting to go to is on the participating list. thanks for the information.

I live near Huntsville Alabama and we did this last year. We go to the Space and Rocket Center and they say children 5 and under get in free. So as a family of three we all get in free. Love it. So much fun. Thanks for the post.

    • The website lists the SC State Museum as a participating museum but it is not on the drop down list when I try to fill out the form.

I called them and they said it didn't matter what museum was listed on the ticket, as long as you had a ticket. I just put Lex County Museum on mine. Hopefully the lady I spoke to was right!
