We all have people in our lives that bring smiles just thinking about them. My mom, sisters (in-law), friends, teachers… the list is long for me. They are sources of joy, light, and also encouragement to be stronger, sweeter and even more generous. Most of the people that come to mind for me are women that I look up and aspire to be more like in one way or another.

My nomination is a dear friend, Betsy, that encourages me to always have joy. She is a mom of 6, and wife to a local pediatrician. That alone should win anyone an award as doctors wives all know just what it takes to run a household with a very busy husband. I am always in awe of Betsy, but not just because she runs a household and home schools. She is a constant reminder to me to always smile. If boys bring an injured duck into the house, you roll with the punches… don’t lose your cool just put the duck in the closed in shower and start wound care (did I mention that she is also a nurse). Our moments with children are brief, as most parents with grown children will remind you, and Besty embraces everyday with love, compassion and patience that overflows.
