Have a smartphone and want to know a great way to use it to maximize savings??

Shopkick is a FREE Android and iPhone app that gives you access to exclusive deals to stores like Best Buy, Target, Macy’s & Toys ‘R Us.   You load the app on your phone and then turn it on when you walk in participating stores to get special coupons to use right then!!

To make it even more awesome anyone that signs up through Southern Savers will get a $25 Restaurant.com gift certificate the first time you walk into a partner store and open up the app on your phone (you don’t even have to use one of the coupons!).

To get the special gift certificate:

1. Sign up online first. (If you get the app through the app store directly you won’t qualify)

2. You will get a text message to download the app.  Click through and download it.

3. The gift card will be put in your account the first time you ‘walk-in’ to a partner store. (Walk into one of the partner stores with the app open on your phone.)

It gets even more fun… starting today Old Navy has joined Shopkick!! This weekend anyone that goes into a store with Shopkick with get an exclusive $10 off $40 coupon for that purchase plus other deals!

When I click on the first link, I keep getting a message that says “Not Found.  The requested item could not be found”   Anyone have any idea what to do?  I have an android!

      • Same here.. I am trying on hubby’s phone since he has a better droid

      • Yeah, it worked on Hubby’s phone (top of the line.. new..) But my droid is older, and it wouldn’t do it…

I went from one end of the Walmart to the other end for a location listed in ShopKick.  However, it kept saying “0.2 miles away.”  Even after I scanned one of the items in the store, it still did not recognize that I was in one of the listed stores.  So, even though I was at their location, the GPS was inaccurate enough that it said I wasn’t in the store.  So frustrating too!

    • Yes, ive discovered that my best friend Kyle got $54/hour just working on the computer. She have been unemployed for 4 months but last month her check was $8160 just working on the internet for few hours.

I have had this app for a while and have been trying to get it to work.  It’s a GREAT idea, but it blows.  No smartphone GPS is gong to be able to pinpoint you (they all say accurate up to X amount of yards).  This app is VERY picky and basically has to prove you are in the store before it will be useful (unlike Foursquare where as long as you are in the vicinity you can check in).  There are only two ways to fix this as far as I can tell: 1. let people get the points for being in the area of the store (you have to trust them not to check into stores they aren’t actually in)  or 2. have something to scan at the front doors of the store (a little shopkick app check-in scan, not an in-store item).  I am up for either, although option 2 would also be free advertising!

Like I said before, this idea is super great, it’s just got being executed well.  The SS community seems to have some pull, so I am honestly hoping that we can help the designers see and change the kinks in their really neat app.

Also – I got my first check-in in a store with scans (Target) yesterday; however, it took literally 15 minutes for me to get the barcode to scan.  I have used my barcode scanner for other things several times before and never have had to try more than twice.
