Over the past month I’ve been slowly implementing a huge new side of Southern Savers.  After many years and thousands of emails asking for saved shopping lists, I’m excited to say that it is a reality.  I know over 10,000 of you have already signed up and started saving your lists, but for anyone else that hasn’t I thought I’d walk you through all the new features.  For those of you that have been using it for a few weeks, I promise there are still a few things you haven’t found in it!!

Saving Your Shopping List
We had to make a new login system to create this ability, so head over and create an account.  You can create one list for a store and save multiple lists of deals to it, you could even create a list to price match at another store and merge numerous lists all into one.

If you want to add your items to an existing list, then select a saved list you’ve already made from the drop down.  Want to make a new list?  Just type in whatever name makes you happy and click the “add to list” button.

Show Only Your Local Coupons
My favorite feature by far is finally using all of our regional coupon data to change your list to only show the coupons you have in your paper!!  To make this feature work you need to make sure that you have a newspaper (or papers) selected in your profile.  When you are logged in you should see your name in the top right corner, under your name profile will appear in a drop down.  You can also go ahead and select the stores you have in your area, that is for a future feature i’m still working on…

Right now we have 23 newspapers covered weekly by volunteers.  If you don’t see your paper in the list, pick the city closest to you.  Another tip: look on the spine of your coupon insert and see if other cities are listed.  You may find that your insert is really the same as another area.  If you want your area covered all it takes is a consistent volunteer, just email me (jenny@southernsavers.com) and I’ll give you all the details.

Once you have a newspaper selected under your profile, now when you are looking at your shopping list select the box above and any coupon that wasn’t in your paper goes away.  How nice is that??  No more searching an insert only to find the coupons not there!!

A Reset Button
If you are busy cleaning up your shopping list (deleting coupons you don’t have etc.) and accidentally delete things you needed there is a reset button.  I’ll warn you, it resets everything… but at least it’s an option and you don’t have to start over.

 Savings Tracker
Many of you have asked for years for a spreadsheet to keep tabs on your savings.  Well now you can do it online and even see a nice little graph!  After you are done shopping come home and enter a few numbers off your receipt.  Week by week you’ll see how much you’ve saved total, plus a breakdown of what the savings was from sales and coupons.  If you are a social butterfly, you can also share that savings on Facebook and Twitter after you track it.

I have more things in the works for this new system… so keep your eyes open for updates and new pages.  If you have any features you’d love to see I’d love to hear them.  While we can’t do everything (cause everything has a price) we can definitely try!

I wanted to ask if you are sure this works for all platform/browser combinations, particularly Mac (Snow Leopard) and Safari or Firefox. If you know that it does, then I need help! I can log in, but as soon as I click on a store tab, I am showing up as logged out. I’m not sure if this is one of those cache-clearing issues or what, but I definitely want to be able to try these features! Thanks!

      • Do you have your browser set to not accept cookies? The login feature uses a cookie to know that you are logged in. I’m a mac user and always on firefox with no problems there or in chrome. If cookies isn’t the issue, email me at jenny@southernsavers.com and we’ll try to figure it out!

      Jenny,
I love the idea of the new features, but I seem to have to re-login every time I open another link on SS. Is there a way to stay logged in? There is nothing more frustrating than clicking on the items I want on my grocery list only to realize I have forgotten to sign in and then I have to start all over. To be honest, I love the idea, but it seems like it’s got too many headaches to use it. Am I just doing it wrong, or what? I want to be a believer, but I have tried it at least a dozen times, and I didn’t think it saved me any time by the time I had to go back and fix things. It was a huge exercise in frustration. I LOVE your site, but for whatever reason, these new features don’t seem to have made it better for me…it could be operator error, who knows? Keep up the great work!!

      • Hey there, see the reply below for more details. It sounds like a “cookie” issue to me, so be sure that your browser is set to accept cookies so that you stay logged in. If you fix cookies and still have issues email me (jenny@southernsavers.com) and we can try to troubleshoot.

wow, thanks, Jenny, these will be really helpful features. Especially the regional coupons, since South Florida can have pretty different deals on groceries. thanks again!

Is wondering if there is a glitch with the new save your list feature. No matter how many times I accept the user agreement, the page just reloads back to the user agreenment. And now I’m not seeing the option to just print my list like usual? What am I missing, haha I need to do my shopping today!

      • Briana Austin

I guess I am better off doing it the old way not signed in. Atleast I can print my list as usual. LOVE southernsavers layout and only ever print my final list from your website!

Thank you Jenny!!! (and the team)

    • Couponnana

Wonderful!!! Thanks Jenny and Company!!! Cannot wait to try this!

    • I love the coupon database – maybe you can personalize that too? Not only by local paper coupons but to where we can add coupons we have received? I know we can suggest coupons but sometimes those for whatever reason don’t get put in the master coupon database. Your website has helped my family SOO much! Thank you so much!

      • Hey there, coupons you suggest should get added to the database. The only time they don’t is if the information isn’t complete with size, expiration date, etc.

      • It will put a symbol by the coupons that were in your paper if someone sends the variations for that paper to Jenny. All you have to do is choose your paper from the drop-down list.

In line with the reset button, it would be great if there was an “undo” button that could undo at least the last action – if it would work for the last 2 or 3 actions, even better! Thanks for all the updates!!!

      • Great idea! I’ll add it to the list.

This is amazing! I love using the Savings Tracker! Thank you so much!

    • Elizabeth

Thanks for all these new features! I love your site and use it every week to print out my shopping lists. I was wondering if there could be a way to send my saved list to my mobile phone (smartphone) instead of printing it. That way I’d save the paper, and I could just check things off the list on my phone as I put them in my cart. Just a thought… keep up the awesome work!

    • Jeffy Walker

      I love this jenny, Thanks!!!

I *love* the idea of only showing local coupons :) , but this seems to be not working for me. :( I have selected the AJC as my local paper, but the only coupon match-ups that show on my printable list are the non-newspaper ones, like printables. Absolutely no newspaper coupons show up on any of my lists.

Jenny, I am loving the Savings Tracker!! Best thing ever!

I LOVE the savings tracker AND the lists look amazing! I started using an Excel spreadsheet and then I stumbled upon this and OMG I LOVE IT!!! Thank you Jenny!
