Do you think the mini composition books will be cheaper later on, like the penny deals? I usually get them for my students for a back to school gift, but I think I paid a nickel for them last summer. What do you think?

      • Kenewton

Amy, I too have bought the mini composition books for my students in the past.  In 2008, the cheapest were $0.05 each and in 2009, $0.19 each.  Last year, the cheapest were $0.19 each at Walgreens.  I am not sure that $0.25 will be the best bargain; however, with the trend of the past few years I think this might be the best we will see in 2011.  I hope you have a great school year!

    • Reneern

yay!  they just sent me a $5 reward in my email last week- guess I'll be getting some free stuff and money maker!  plan to get the 5 pack dividers (2 of them) and the bic highlighters.  When the $4 reward comes in- I'll have extra moola!  yay!

      • Tricia

If you use rewards, it doesn't generate rewards after that.

        • Snellmom

Yeah, when did that start??  I used rewards on the HP ink promo they had, but instead of getting $5 for each cartridge I recycled, I only got $2 plus my ink rewards were not there because I used rewards.  It didn't used to do that.  I was not a happy camper.

I quit doing Office Depot for the very same reason.

    • Cobb mom

I was in my local Staples on Sunday and they had a limit of 2 items for each of the 50 cent items.  Anything over 2 was full price.

    • Uknown

The limit is two per transaction. Most staples associates will not mind doing multiple transactions. (I work at a staples).

Staples is also doing a Back to school pass. You buy one for 10 dollars, You get fifteen percent off your purchases on school suplies from now until mid September. You can even use it on the purchase when you get the card.

If you spend 75 dollars you made your 10 bucks back. Anything over that is gain.

Just going to throw that out there.

      • noteworthymom

Also, the percent off is before mail in rebates.  For example get the photo paper for $14.99 with 15% off, pay $12.74, and send in the mail in rebate for the full $14.99 back!

    • ScottK

Anyone else cringe when they say “Back To School”? Thank God for this site!

      • Amy

Yes, because of the expense.  Now that I'm couponing maybe it won't be so expensive.

      • Sarcasticangel_82

        I cringe…b/c I teach and I am enjoying sleeping in! :)

      • Djksims

I cringe, too. Because I teach and I am not ready for school to start back. And also because it means I have to buy supplies for 20+ students due to the fact that I work in a high poverty aread where the parents don't feel the need to buy their own back to school supplies for their children.

        • Amy B.

If you sign-up for the teacher program at any of the office supply stores make sure and ask them what the teacher limit is on their promotions.  It is always higher than what is printed in their ad.  This is how I stock up my classroom too!

        • guest

It is a choice that you make to buy school supplies, if you cringe to buy them maybe you should not do something that makes you cringe.  Did you ever think that the parents may not have the money to buy back to school supplies?  In some areas there are a lot of different organizations who offer back to school supplies for free.

      • If by “cringe” you mean “rejoice”!

    • Klonghall

I hope they do their backpack promotion again.  Buy a backpack & get the entire purchase price back on a gift card to use later.

      • Snellmom

I LOVED that promo.  We got an awesome deal on a Swiss Gear laptop backpack last year.  I ended up making money on the deal because I had a 15% off coupon and the gift card for was for the purchase price before the discount.  Not sure if that will happen again!

      • Kathymomto3

I got our daughter a backpack from them last school year, and it's still in great shape.  I'm definitely going to cash in on that deal again this year…for my son.

      • Sandies_shack

I did that promo last year and never got my gift card.

    • Erin

I was told tonight that you can get a special discount card to use on school supplies to save 15% off entire purchase now thru end of September.  Card costs $10, so you would need to plan on spending at least $100 to recoupe cost.

      • SusanW

A friend told me about this yesterday, too.  You can find the offer on the Staples Back To School link.  With 15% off, you actually only need to spend about $67, but I'm still not sure it's worth it.  It's only valid until 9/17 and there are lots of restrictions.  On the surface, it's tempting, but it's not good on ink/toner, case paper, or flash drives.  It doesn't specify if it's valid on sale items.  Since the BTS deals are so good, even with 2 kids, I don't think I'll be able to spend the $67 to recoup the cost of the card.  Jenny posted so many incredible deals last year I'm banking on being able to do better than this…

    • Mcleodsc

I printed off a 75% off any one item coupon yesterday.

      • Sandra

Can you tell us where to find that coupon?  Thanks!!

        • Mcleodsc

apparently I cannot post it here. google it and you will see where to go

          • GMom

I found them! 75% for certain items. Thanks!

          • Kathymomto3

I've seen people spell out “dot” instead of using a “.” and it works.

    • Mstw
    • Katehuber72

With the back to school sales is it best to stock up early or to wait nearer to going back to school???

      • Apryl Snyder

The prices will go lower closer to when school starts…they will have 1 cent sales for several weeks in a row and a lot of items for 10 cents and 25 cents : )

      • I would wait, especially if your state has the sales tax holiday because a lot of stores really like to glom onto that because they know it draws in the shoppers. I live very close to the NC/SC state line so if either state does it this year, I'm good to go. NC's dates are Aug. 5-7 and I'm sure SC's will be the same and I would be very surprised if they didn't do it. Just search “sales tax holiday 2011” and the name of your state for information.

    • This is odd, I'm looking at my local Staples ad on their site and its not showing anything on sale for 50 cents. Only $1 items on the front of the ad.

      • Kathymomto3

Just got home from our store in So. Fla.  They didn't have anything for 50 cents.  Must be regional. I did print the 75% off coupons and got a great deal on file folders and envelopes.

    • Made a stop at my Staples, these deals were not in effect, hopefully to come though.  Also the Charmin was still 4.99.

      • Coupon

Where can I find the 50 cent off coupon? I have only found 25 cent off :(

    • Jessi

If you print the 75% off HP paper product Staples coupon (I found it on Hip2Save), you can use it at Office Depot.  They have a case (10 reams) of HP paper for $29.99, and will accept the 75% off coupon because it's a competitor coupon.  Ten reams of paper for $7.50… epic deal!

      • Volunteer Amy

Thank you, Jessi!!!  Office Depot is close to my house…Staples is quite a drive away!!!

        WooHoo!!!

    • Jen

Sad – NONE of these deals were live at my Staples 7/7/11. :(

    • Rkperez

I went and didn't find any of these things… :( I did buy a wireless mouse on sale…

    • Lisalayton

None of these items were on sale at my Staples…disappointed. :-(
