Don’t let your kids brains turn to mush this summer, encourage them to read with the help of these Summer Reading Programs!

Borders –
This summer Borders is running the 10 Summer Reading Double-Dog Dare.  If your child is 12 or under, they  simply  read 10 books and record them on the Double Dog Dare Form to get a free book from one of ten popular children’s books!

Barnes & Noble –
Get your child (grades 1-6) to read 8 books and record them in the Passport to Summer Reading; turn them in for a free book!

Pizza Hut’s Book It! –
From June 15 – August 15, any kid who is in K-6 and reads five books has a chance to win a summer prize package!

Also make sure to check your local library; many libraries have summer reading programs going this summer!

(thanks to everyone who emailed!)

perfect timing! i was just doing research on this topic this morning. thanks friend! chuck e. cheese also has a reward chart on-line for reading. 10 free tokens after 2 weeks of reading w/purchase of a pizza (limit one per child).

    • Also check out http://www.usbornesummerreading.com. This is for all ages. You don’t have to live in Charleston, but it is to benifit our local Children’s hospital. The children earn free books for themselves and for MUSC.

Does the child actually have to go to the store to redeem the form at Borders? We do not live near a Borders, etc., but Grandma does. Could she take it to the store for us?

I went ahead and emailed Borders Customer Service. This was their reply:
“Thank you for contacting Borders Customer Care with your inquiry.

I am pleased to inform you that you are able to request that another member turn in the Double Dog Dare Summer Reading Form at a local store. It is preferred that the child be present just so that they are able to pick out the book they want, however, this is not required. You may wish to also contact the store for anymore information. Information about contacting your local Borders can be found at:

Looks like the Pizza Hut sweepstakes isn't open to home schooled students, eh? The other two programs look great, though!

i am assuming that homeschoolers would be able to participate, as Pizza Hut welcomes homeschoolers in their Book It program. My thoughts are that I am a private school, but maybe email them to check for sure.

I'm going to call tomorrow and check it out. (You have to wait 3-5 days for an email response)….I'll let you know what I find out!!

Our library in KY has a great summer reading program and gives out coupons for KY attractions when you sign up. I believe most KY libraries take part in this program and have the coupons.

You can always check out your local library for the summer reading program. This year the theme is “MAKE A SPLASH” or “CATCH A WAVE”
      IT IS FREE.
