Looks like a Starbucks weekend for me (when the inserts aren’t impressive, I swing by the Starbucks in the “nice” area where no one coupons. I buy a cheap coffee or use a freebie or discount they emailed me…and peruse the recycle bin. Many folks, especially guys, leave their papers and especially the ads and coupons there).

Cheaper than buying one to two Sunday papers, plus I get coffee and a star out of the deal :-)

      • joette

Stop buying papers and started checking out my neighbors recycle bins. Usually end up with 7 to 8 inserts for the week!

      • Becky S

A lot of establishments frown upon dumpster diving their trash/recycle bins. (especially in the ‘nice’ areas) I really prefer not to cause a scene and get kicked out of someplace or dig through something nasty. An alternative is asking employees at some place you know & frequent if they can keep an eye out for newspapers/inserts for you. Be it a waffle house, mcdonald’s, or wherever. Put the word out there that you’re a couponer and you might be surprised how many people offer their leftover unused coupons, catalinas, or inserts.

        • Laura Polis

a lot of starbucks I’ve been to have a bin for used newspapers, so it’s not dumpster diving, it’s actual recycling of the paper

          • Becky S

Sorry I will make sure to call it “recycle bin” diving ;) In many areas, there are ordinances or laws against removing anything from a dumpster or recycling bin. (protecting people from identity theft) If you want to do it, hey have at it. I’d just rather avoid the uh inconvenience of experience.

          • Becky S

This is the actual quote from my local ordinance “No unauthorized
person shall uncover, rifle, pilfer, dig into, turn over, or in any other manner disturb or use any refuse or recycle container belonging to another.”

Thanks Mrs B for the tip…. I just received a starbuck gift card from work…and I think I’ll use it Sunday morning to “hangout” and look for those extra inserts! The papers are getting rather expensive!! Enjoy your Starbucks too!!
