swagbucks-tips-tricks

I was talking with a friend yesterday that was frustrated with her Swagbucks results and wanted to know just how we were averaging 20-22 swagbucks a week.  I told her I would try to give her some Swagbucks tips and tricks that I’ve learned.  Who knows maybe more of you share in her frustration.

Before we start if you are unsure what Swagbucks is, read this.

Tips

1.  Download the Swagbucks toolbar for your browser.

This makes it where every quick search you do is automatically through Swagbucks.  There is also a little spot where you will see swagcodes pop up.  They are only good for a few hours so this way you know as soon as possible.

2.  Follow Swagbucks on Twitter and Facebook (if you already use these).

They release more swagcodes through these sites, so you have a better chance of knowing them.

3.  You will probably only win a max of 4 times a day, so after that just chill out a bit so you don’t get burnt out.

Some say that there is a limit per amount of time, and that spreading your searches out will help.  Try searching a little in the morning, afternoon and evening.

4.  It’s not just searching.  You can win Swagbucks for online shopping and by completing Special offers or watching video ads.

For 3 quick Swagbucks:

  • Login or Register
  • Go to the Special Offers page (link on the left hand side of their page)
    • Go to no obligation special offers and click through all the screens (keep hitting skip).  You will get 1 Swagbuck at the end.
  • Go back to the Special Offers page.
    • Scroll down just a little and you will see “Wall 1, Wall 2, Wall 3”
    • Click on each wall and then you can select to only look at the Free offers.  Some are free trials that you can cancel. But a few are just for watching an online video you will get 1 Swagbuck.

4.  Friday is MEGA Swagbucks day.  You have a greater chance of earning a high value swagbuck every Friday.  We have gotten 7 and 10 ones in the past!

5.  Stay off of the Swagbucks sites that are personalized for various Actors or other “Channels” you will earn Swagbucks there but they can’t be redeemed on normal Swagbuck prizes.

Advanced Trick

1.  Instead of book marking the sites you go to, bookmark a swagbucks search for that site.  Now every time you open up your email you have “searched” and have a greater chance of winning.

Ex.  Instead of setting a bookmark to your email (or Southern Savers), go to swagbucks, search for your email system and then bookmark the url of that search.

I’ve only been “Swagging” for a month now and am no expert.  We have earned 98 so far this month from searching and other offers and codes.

Do you have any other tips?

    • Wow. 98! I think I’ve gotten like 8-10 this week, thanks to the codes, a 4 one on Friday and some searches.

still a bigger fan of mypoints.com … which has a coupon section where you can print the coupons.com and smartsource.com coupons, and each time you use these grocery coupons you get 10 points… takes more points to get the 50 dollar rewards (swagbucks needs 235 for a 20 dollar target card, my points needs 3500ish for a 25 gift card) but i find it a lot easier to get the points… in 2 weeks im up to 370, whereas it took 2 months to get to 32 at swagbucks… something to consider at least especially for printing the coupons… or use both for different things

Other tips: Download the swidget so you can check for active codes. Sometimes the code is actually given in the swidget. Sometimes it only gives a clue about where you can find the code. Also, getting referrals is one of the best ways to multiply your earnings. When they search and win, you do, too, until they reach 100 swagbucks from searching. Another way to earn swagbucks is by shopping via their shop and earn page. You get 1 swag buck for every $5 purchased. For example, I needed to buy a calculator, so I went to SB Shop & Earnbought it from Walmart and had it shipped site to store for free and earned swagbucks at the same time.

I follow the swagucks code thread on slickdeals http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1291711

        • Bethany

I use the Slickdeals thread too. =o)

      • lia

i cant figure out where to put the widget. When I click grab widget it gives me a link to copy and paste….where do I paste it?

        • veronica

Lia on a mac you drag it to applications and then it will open. I am not a pc person, however I would assume you would have to put it into something that will open up your files. Hope someone helps you with this. Good luck

    • Vanessa

someone told me about this link. someone has always posted where you can find the codes available. check it out. I have been doing this since the week after Jenny originally posted about swagbucks and i have 101sb. http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1291711&page=142

    • Amy

I have been using Swagbucks for a month now and have 78. I do nothing but use it as my main search engine. Definately download the Tool bar and watch Facebook for free codes.

      • Traclyn Cook

Ok, I’ve been trying to search through SB and it still says all I have is 4 Swagbucks … what am I doing wrong?

    • Aymie

What I usually do is type something in like the name of a song, then scroll down, go to the next page, click a random one, hit the backspace button, click on one from the first page, then hit back button again. This usually gives me at least one!

    • Kim

I have 29 swagbucks just from searching, but what are the codes? What am I missing? Details please.

    • Ginny Wright

I have been doing swagbucks for 2 1/2 weeks now and have 85 just from searching so I am going to stick with it for a little while. I also have been a mypoints member for 7 years and it is easier to accumulate a lot more points faster especially if you are an online shopper like me. There are also lots more high value and variety of their gift cards.

    • Paige

Hi..see where you took down the code and deleted comments about that…but you can say where you can find the code and it is “legal” with swagbucks!

      • Swag moderator

No you can not share codes or tell where they are, you can only hint!

    • Jeanne

I think its a great idea, but I am always frustrated with the search results that I get from any search engine but Google…If I am just goofing off, then this is a great thing, but if I actually need to find something, then I have to Google it. Good luck to you all and thanks Jenny for the great web site!

      • Carrie

It’s as if I typed your response.. totally know what you mean! Google by far is my resource for information and it finds (in my opinion) the best results. Perhaps will take a look at swagbucks though, it seems to call my name…

      • Swagbucks is Google based. :)

        • Even if Swagbucks is Google based, I’ve found the same issue with not getting the hits I needed . . . I search with SB and then search again from Google. Sometimes, I type an exact company name and the company’s official site isn’t even listed on the first page of SB results. Then I go to Google, and it’s the first one listed. It seems to happen all the time.

I’ve been doing it for about six months and have earned maybe 200 points in that time. I installed the search bar, but I only got codes once or twice a month – even in October, when they supposedly were releaseing toolbar codes daily – I think I got three. It hasn’t worked well for me.

          • misti

Ive gotten points by searching on google first then plugging the search in the swagtoolbar and searching again!

      • I started off going back and forth btw SB and google, but since SB is google based I’m not finding a big difference – advertisers always come up at the top of the search.

    • Having active referrals is the ‘easiest’ way, since you earn when they earn. I *heart* swag bucks!

    • Tabitha

I’ve been a member since around the time Jenny first posted about Swagbucks- I’ve redeemed 4 $5 Amazon gift cards (45 swagbucks each), and currently have 7 swagbucks. I usually get 3 per day from searching, and I get maybe 75% of the codes. I also do some special offers- there are a couple for getting insurance quotes that award you 21 swagbucks each! Use a junk email account because they do send a lot of emails right after you do them. Also, make sure to check the facebook wall on a regular basis- when there is a code out, everyone will be saying “Thanks TSG”. Remember, you are allowed to ask for hints as to where to find the codes, but NEVER ask for the code itself- you can get your account deactivated for that.

I hope that helps some people! Happy swaggin’!

      • Kim

How/where do I find codes please? I only want to do it right, but I don’t know what I am looking for. THANKS!

        • Tabitha

Codes can be found on the swagbucks widget (swidget), which you can download on their webpage. Sometimes the code itself is posted, other times it’s a clue to where to find the code. I also recommend downloading the swagbucks toolbar- some codes are sent via message on the toolbar. Also, read the blog on a regular basis- codes can be posted there, too! But, like I said, check the facebook page- the people on there will ALWAYS post “Thanks TSG” when there is a code out! Don’t be afraid to ask for hints as to where it’s at! Most people are very friendly (ignore the rude ones).

        • Tabitha

For more about codes, visit the tattooastronomy blog (search for it, he doesn’t like people posting his link all over the place). He breaks down every code after it expires to show you how to get it. Of course, it doesn’t help you find active codes, but reading a few posts will give you an idea of where to look in the future.

    • amy sanders

      thanks friend!!!

    • Wendy

I love swagbucks! I have been doing it for about a month and so far have gotten 7 gift cards! Also have 27 referrals/friends! When you have referrals and they are active…it is an easier way to get lots of bucks! I usually search in the morning and always get atleast 1 buck. Love it and love the free cards!

    • Malaya

I have 57 swagbucks and wanted to use 45 for an Amazon giftcard. I don’t plan on using the card yet though. Is it better to just keep adding points and redeem them when you want to use the Amazon card? Any ideas?

      • Tricia

I redeem Swagbucks for Amazon gift cards, and there are a few things you need to know.
!.You can only redeem 2 prizes per day, 5 of the same kind per month. Since the best deal is the $5 Amazon gift card, that means you can only redeem $25 worth a month.
2.After you redeem for a prize, they send a confirmation email. You have to click on the link to confirm your prize.
        3. Amazon gift cards are only posted to your account on the 16th and the last day of the month. So if you want to use the card for something specific, plan ahead! This is where I messed up at Christmas. I had accumulated nearly 800 Swagbucks, thinking I would redeem them then, but could only redeem $50 worth since I started in November. From now on, I’m redeeming as I go!
4.Swagbucks prizes do expire if you don’t use them, usually within a month. This IS NOT a problem for Amazon gift cards, though. Simply click on your Swag account once you get the email that your gift card has posted, then go to “My Gift Cards.” It will tell you how to redeem them to your Amazon account – basically you just copy the code from your card and paste into the account under “payment options.” The money doesn’t expire, it just sits there till you place an order, then it is automatically applied. A nice surprise if you forgot it was there!

For extra Swagbucks, download the toolbar, use Shop and Earn, sign up all your friends (who wouldn’t love free $$?), and look into recycling old cell phones and games through the site. I saved $50 on Christmas presents, and I’ll be saving another $50 on my husband’s birthday present at the end of February – not bad for just doing a handful of searches morning and evening!
P.S. – I get the Hip2Save emails, but I still click over to the site every morning through Swagbucks. More often than not I win a Buck or 2 that way!

        • Victoria

OK, in reference to buying $5 Amazon gift cards, I have not done it becuase I thought what could I do with only $5 on amazon? Then I would have to pay shipping.

Are you saying that I can apply the gift cards to an Amazon account and let the money build up until I have enough to buy what I really want? Can I just apply all the Amazon gift cards up until December and then buy my Christmas stuff from Amazon? I thought it was strange that the larger value of amazon gift cards were worth more than buying the smaller denominations.

ALso, I did not know the SB prizes expire – I have a restaurant.com one I bought which I need to use.

          • Sonia

Yes, you can just let your Amazon cards build up until you are ready to use them. I have $20 worth of cards saved now and am getting $10 more dollars tomorrow that I will add to my Amazon acct. I’m planning to save as much as I can and use it for Christmas shopping.

    • janae

There is a code out right now!!!! According to the slickdeals thread Check the widgets. Good until 9:30 EST

    • Faith

I love swagbucks! I’ve used the search engine only casually for just short of a year and have gotten over $75 worth of gift cards. Rhonda is right, having active “friends” signed up under your account does wonders to boost your numbers.

      • Anna

I agree on the referrals. You can go into your account and see how many swagbucks you are getting extra for each individual referral, too. It’s really nice.
Also, you do not need to clear your history or cookies. It doesn’t ‘track ‘ what you’ve been looking at. I do about 15 searches per day, some of which are exactly the same every day (example, I search for your site and iheartriteaid.com and hip2save every single day). I even search for yahoo and google lol. anyway, I average 3-4 swagbucks per day, without codes, and that’s not counting my referrals, either. It does help to space them out. I do about 3 or 4 in a row, and I get a swagbuck. I do a few more a few hours later, and so on.
Another tip: I have NEVER gotten a swagbuck between 11pm and midnight, I don’t know why. If I’m gonna be up later, I wait til about 1am, and then I get one.
Hope this helps you all! I’ve been using swagbucks for about 7 months and LOVE IT! It’s nice that they have gift cards for Alice.com. I emailed them and Alice.com says you can use unlimited gift cards in one single order. So it’s cool to redeem for a bunch of them and take a small break from couponing, cause it was free anyway!
Thanks for all you do for us, Jenny!

    • Jamie

Okay guysa i have been doing this for a week and am greatful for the tips- but how can i become all of your friends? my real life friends think i am cooky for all of my coupon crazyness.

      • Vanessa

I’ll be your friend…my friends and family thought I had lost my mind…staying up until Jenny posted the grocery store deals on Wednesday morning…until my 3 fridges & freezers, and every closet in my house was over run with food in a matter of a month for very little money. I could supply all my families food for there houses too! Now they ask me for food and hygeine items all the time.

    • Carol

Please explain something to me. Can you use your swagbucks account on multiple computers? I have 3 computers that I use regularly. Would I just have to log in on the one that I’m currently using?

    • My tip is to not wait to claim your $5 Amazon eCard. Do it when you receive 45 swagbucks. There is no point in waiting as you spend more swagbucks on higher amount gift cards.

    • You can only get 2 of the same kind of gift card in a day and 5 max a month, so make sure you get at least 5 $5 Amazon cards a month.

I use SB search for my email, SS, and FB. But I find I have to change the search terms around sometimes to keep my results at the top of the page. Southern Savers comes up quicker if I misspell it soutthernsavers – then it’s the only item on the page! Gmail is g mail.com. Try combining words or separating combined words if you are trying to get to a familiar site quickly.

    • Traclyn Cook

Can somebody help me … I’m searching through Swagbucks but, it still only tells me I have 4 bucks. What am I doing wrong? I’m logged in.

      Help!!!

    • carolyn090

i just signed up for it and now i get alot of crazy pop ups .not saying the two are related but i need some help ! i never had the first pop before .they all say you won this or that some even say that they are swag. offers.

    • Michelle

Where on the toolbar do the swagcodes go? I've been using Swagbucks for about a month and still only have 22. I also watched some videos and never got the bucks for those.

    • christalz

I've noticed you need to search twice in a row. If you go on and search an item, one won't show up on that search, but the second search for me always gets 1 swagbuck. So always search 2 items, 2nd search will win a swagbuck.

      • Sherry

Thanks! I got got 10 SB from your tip!
