Over Thanksgiving weekend we ran a “party” with Usborne books to help you guys catch the great Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals they had.  To make it more fun we decided to give all the books earned by the party to Toys to Tots.

So here is $600 worth of books earned from the weekend sale.  I tried to order a mix of educational and fun and also a mix in ages.  I know from past years there is never a lot for older kids, so this year they have some great adventure and science books!  Thanks to everyone that ordered to make this possible.

I urge any of you that have an extra new toy lying around (like 10 Zhu Zhu pets from this weeks CVS sale) to consider your local Toys for Tots.  Did you know in most cities the toys that are collected go to help kids in that area? You will find drop off boxes around the city in various stores and eateries.  You can also get more information here.

If you don’t have any toys to donate MyCokeRewards announced today that they are also collecting Rewards points to donate to Toys for Tots.  So there is any free way to help!

Somehow I missed the Usborne party….but I did manage to get five new monopoly games to my local Toys for Tots (and just as a side note, I was teaching my daugther about giving…and while we were out, an anonymous person came up to my daughter and gave her a toy while we were eating lunch).

We were able to donate several of the games we picked up at ToysRUs earlier to my daughter's school for a family that could use some Christmas help. I got to explain that they were for kids that might not be able to have presents and we have a lot of games already, when it was time for her to take them in to school. She then turned around a few days later and told her grandma on the phone that she was going to throw away her Christmas list and just be thankful for what she has!!! Blew me away – I didn't know how to respond!!

They don't cover Tattnall County, Ga? Does anyone know if we have a place that donates to families in need?

    • Jantodd4

I think it awesome that you did that, Jenny!!

Donated my coke rewards : )

I see “On the Moon” – that has been a favorite book in our house! Such beautiful pictures!

I somehow missed the whole book party, but man that is just wonderful. And I think it's great that you thought of the older kids too. I know a lot of the ladies on the couponing boards are talking about how they got lip gloss and Nivea lip care, nicer things like that, for the teenage girls who get stuff through programs like Boys & Girls Clubs, the ones that usually don't get anything “tween or older” nice, just baby-ish stuff. Wonderful.

Yay that we SouthernSAVERS are also SouthernGIVERS!!! :)

Might try your local bank to see if they're collecting Toys for Tots this year – my wonderful Tallahassee banks are.

We're collecting toys at work for kids at the Children's Home Society – another WONDERFUL cause if you can't find a local Toys for Tots drive.

And yay for the PUBLIX stores in Leon County, Florida for partnering with Boys Town North Florida and getting foster kids' wish lists in the hands of customers like me. Felt really good to hand over “my” kids' gifts at the customer service desk before hitting the B1G1's!

Thanks for helping us have more of the *good stuff* to GIVE, Jenny! :)
