It’s amazing to me what my girls are able to memorize.   We started when they were two and they could quickly repeat back scripture and other random facts that we taught them.  I wonder now what they would know if we had started even earlier than two!

Last month we got something fun from a Southern Savers reader to try out.  They are called Truthcards and have 52 cards with scripture verses on one side and a picture on the other side.  They are awesome flashcards for kids, but I’ve also been tempted to put one a week up on my bathroom mirror for me.

Each set includes 42 4×6 scripture cards, 10 customizable cards (you get to put a picture of family members or something special as the photo), 50 photo corners for customizable cards, helpful hints, and a Biblical Color significance guide.

A great thing about the Truthcards is all of the different ways they can be used. When your child is little you can use them to teach just the words and pictures and then add in the Bible verses. As your child gets older you can use them to help your child memorize Bible verses by having your child fill in the blank. For example you can say, “Do not conform to the patterns of this (world).” You can also use the cards to practice reading, writing, colors, and sorting.

You can order your own set of Truthcards for $20 including shipping.

I am so excited to be able to give away (5) sets of Truthcards!

      SIDE NOTE:
Jenny, have you ever read “The Duties of Parents” by R.C. Ryle? If not, you would love it.

They have it on Christianbook.com or you can do a search for it to find it other places. It was written in 1888, but the truths in it still hold firm today. It is full of practical wisdom for training children, and I found it to be both refreshing and convicting! One of my favorite pearls of wisdom I pulled from it was “In every decision you make for you children, always consider their souls.”

      Here's a favorite:

      Hebrews 4:15-16

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are-yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

No, dear brother and sisters, I am still not all I should be, but I am focusing all my energies on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I strain to reach the end of the race and receive the prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us up to heaven.

It really hits it home how much we need to focus on this when you say “Jack is patient, Jack is kind, Jack does envy, boast, and is not proud. Jack is not rude and self serving. Jack is not easily angered and resentful……”

You keep him in perfect peace
whose mind is stayed on you,
because he trusts in you. Isaiah 26:3

    • Mujer143

My favorite scripture is Isaiah 54:17 “No weapon that is formed against you will prosper; And every tongue that accuses you in judgment you will condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, And their vindication is from Me,” declares the LORD.”

I love this verse because we are living in world full of temptation and corruption, and are constantly being challenged in our faith. And no “weapon” aka “circumstance” life throw at you will defeat you or conquere you if you believe in God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.

Too many favorites but heres one I have really been focusing on!!! :)

I have so many favorites, but one I love talks about Heaven: “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor human heart conceived is what God has prepared for those who love Him” 1 Corinthians 2:9

I always tell people that if you can think of the most beautiful place you have ever seen, the most beautiful music or most awesome concert you have ever heard, then try to imagine what eternal paradise would look like, and you haven't even come close!

This was given to me by our Pastor's wife several years ago during the loss of our daughter, and to this day I remind myself “joy comes in the morning” whenever I am faced with anything that has my world in turmoil I find myself going back to this scripture. As as darkness fades away and morning comes it is a new day with new things and tomorrows problems seem so far away.

For his anger is but for a moment,

and his favor is for a lifetime.

Weeping may tarry for the night,

but joy comes with the morning

      Psalm 30:5

5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. Deuteronomy 6:6-9

One of the scripture God has layed on my heart for my ten week old daughter as she learns to trust us and go down for her naps in peace is Zephaniah 3:17 which says God will “Rejoice over her with gladness; quiet her with His love, exult over her with loud singing.”

Wow! This looks so neat! My daughter is 18 months old and we are JUST starting to help her memorize Scripture! Her first two verses (started learning them this week) are Ephesians 6:1 “Children obey your parents in the Lord for this is right” and 1 Cor. 13:4/5 “Love is not rude”. We have started teaching her by saying all of the words in each verse except for the last word… and she loves shouting “RIGHT!” and “RUDE!” :D

The Lord watches over you – the Lord is your shade at your right hand; The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. Proverbs 31:10-31
10 Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.
11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.
12 She will do him good and not evil

all the days of her life.
13 She seeketh wool, and flax,

and worketh willingly with her hands.
14 She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.
15 She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household,
and a portion to her maidens.
16 She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.
17 She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.
18 She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.
19 She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
      20 She stretcheth our her hand to the poor;

yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
22 She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.
23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.
24 She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.
25 Strength and honor are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
27 She looketh well to the ways of her household; and eateth not the bread of idleness.
28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
29 Many daughters have done virtuously; but thou excellest them all.
30 Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.
31 Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.

She was the one that inspired me to play and often paid for my lessons, so it was the least I could do to honor her. I was hard, but after repeating this verse, God just took over and I was able to do it! Years later, my daughter passed, and again this became my life verse. Not only to play a song for her at her funeral, but I had to quote this verse every morning just to face another day without her….and it is true….I CAN do all things in His strength!

I have two that I lean towards:
Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

    • ashley

For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. – Romans 8:38-39

    • Lauramwilliams1

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
I say this because we recently found out that we are pregnant with our third child while my husband was laid off from work, after 18 months of being laid off he finally got a job on the Police dept. We are so blessed.

    • Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire. Hebrews 12

Psalm 115:3 – for our God is in the heavens and He does whatever He pleases

    • Jacketjen

10 “I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead.

12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

15 All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you. 16 Only let us live up to what we have already attained.”

      Philippians 3:10-16

God's plan is always greater than ours, even when we don't understand and think we don't want it to go that way. He wants what is best for us.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

This is my favorite verse…So often we try to do things on our own in our own time in our own way. We must remember that if we “Trust the Lord” he will definitely take care of the issues of our hearts, wants, and needs when we least expect it.

This is so timely! When I read this, I had just laid my precious baby girl down to sleep – she's 14 weeks old and such a perfect gift. At around 2 and a half my son had become terrified of going to sleep and being in his room alone at night. He was waking up screaming 2-3 times a night. A friend recommended memorizing Ps. 27:1 with him to help him not be afraid so we did. The first night he slept through the night! The Lord definitely reminded us of the power of scripture. I would love to have these cards to continue to teach him, his little sister, and our little bun in the oven God's word!

Oh, how to choose. Not THE fav, but here's a good one: Jesus wept. John 11:35

Romans 8:1-5 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

I'll be the first to admit I'm not perfect…..LOL! The reason I love this scripture is because not only does this help me stay peaceful, also it reminds me that as I focus on what I need to focus on (and NOT on what others “are” or “are not” doing, or not too focused on my own self, etc., ), and think on and do those things that are pleasing to Him, then we will see the blessings in our own lives….and when we are truly blessed, we are “free” to bless others (in many ways).

3 Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. 4 Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, 5 to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.

This is a scripture I am currently praying over my family. Deut 6:5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

      • kate

I have taken this verse passage literally… above two doors in our house, I have painted verses on the wall. Above the oven I have also painted a verse and on the wall of the laundry room. It is important to talk about these things with our children day in and out. At home, on the road, at play… How wonder that this is what you are praying for your family. I don't know you Leah, but I too will pray this for your family. Hugs and love in Christ– Kate

Jenny, this one thread has consumed my mind this afternoon. I've read through so many posts and I have enjoyed reading what is special to so many other people.

John 15:13 “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.”

Proverbs 3:5-6 and Hebrews 11:1 are my favorites. A constant reminder that I don't always know everything even if it appears one way and that faith is what pleases God.

Exodus 13:21 By day the LORD went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night. 22 Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place in front of the people.

I love being reminded that God is always before my, guiding my way. Sometimes I wish He would light my way with a pillar of fire, so I'd be sure not to miss it, but it never ceases to amaze me how He guides me along!

    • GaryK

I love Romans 12:1-2. It reminds me regularly to make God the center of my life.

Therefore, I urge you brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, hold and pleasing to God – which is your spirtitual worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.

It is impossible to pick a favorite scripture because revelation of what the scripture means evolves as we do in our walk with God. I think one of the most overlooked, yet powerful scriptures for waiting on God is Exodus 23:30; “Little by little I will drive them out before you, until you have increased enough to take possession of the land.” God will only bring about those things that we are mature enough to handle, Revelation comes “little by Little”.
