Do you ever sit down with your family and discuss your hopes and dreams?  I don’t mean your personal dreams, but your families.  For some of you this is something you may have never done, but I would encourage you to actually do it.  Ask your kids, “What’s one thing you would like to see our family do?” or “What’s one thing you’ve always wanted us to do as family?”  Personally I think asking kids questions like this is a lot of fun… you never have any clue what they will say and many times it leads to quite fun discussions at the dinner table!

Once you ask your kids, think up what a picture of that goal would be and take the picture.  Then head over and enter the Smucker’s Uncrustables Unstoppables Hopes and Dreams Photo Contest.  You have unti September 26 to enter.  One grand prize winner will win a trip for 4 to the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, NY with a chance to meet “unstoppable mom” and Olympic gold medalist, Kristi Yamaguchi.  On your trip you can go speed skating, bod sledding or a number of other winter olympic activities!!

I asked my girls a few months ago what they would make our families goals.  My 5 year old had recently been to visit a friends house that was super clean… so her goal was that our house could be as clean as Hannah’s.  (I couldn’t dash her dreams and tell her that she is the messiest in the entire family).  So we set that as a goal and started a chore chart and working towards little clean goals – like a clean sink each day!

My big girls and I already had the goal to get more healthy.  So that was quickly mentioned.  We will be running in our first 5K race in 3 weeks!  Watching them grow through this (and me lose weight) has been wonderful.  My favorite part – the day we learned that you can’t whine and run.  It just doesn’t work.

Our last goal they mentioned has really been a goal for the past year.  Try to have someone over at least once a week.  We are striving to show our children what hospitality looks like.  It takes dedication to always open up your house and planning to always have food to feed your guests, but it has been a great year and something we’ve decided to keep going with each week!
