The Walgreens Black Friday Ad is looking pretty fun.  We’ve had the deals all week, but now it’s time to start talking transactions.  This really isn’t the easiest store to start in but I know many of you won’t listen to me…

Things never work exactly the way you thought they would and odds are at least one of these deal won’t print (not because you did anything wrong). It is best to keep your transaction numbers low. Just group things into two to three groups and use the RR from one to pay for the second.

It was hard to keep the out of pocket low and do this in the least number of transactions.  But hopefully this is helpful.

Black Friday Deal Idea

  • Transaction #1

You have $12 in RR remaining. I would use this on things you need that are on sale, like Viva Paper towels. Remember these will expire in 14 days so if you aren’t coming back soon use them now!

Jenny, do the Black Friday sales at Walgreens and CVS begin on Thrusday or Friday? I always head out early Thanksgiving morning and just wanted to know if I can use these scenerios that morning. Thank you for all the hard work! :>)

      • Anonymous

If I am not mistaken they all start Thanksgiving morning.  Just like Sunday’s….we can’t think about Thanksgiving and Church for wanting to get to the store sales.  LOL

        • Crystalsblueyes

So true!! That is awesome!! I can’t wait… It is my 1st Black Friday!! Walgreens is so complicated and the RR never work right. So I am worried but still going to try… wish me luck :)~

      •  9am Thursday morning is when it begins I believe

    • Lucy

ThermaCare HeatWrap Neck, Wrist and Shoulder or Menstrual, $2.49
       — That’s a single count box per the ad.  All available coupons require a 2ct or higher package.

Culturelle Probiotic Digestive Health 30 ct
       — There haven’t been any printable coupons available for about 2 weeks.

      Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick, $5.99
       — The price is actually $4.99 in the ad.

      • Guest of Michelle’s

        Here she goes again!…….

      • Jessica Dunn

Are you saying that Jenny’s Transaction #3 isn’t right or your’s in the comments? I ask cause in Jenny’s scenario the Revlon is listed as $4.99 and the Transaction that lists the Culturelle doesn’t list a coupon for it just Register Rewards. HTH! :D

        • Lucy

Jenny edited her entire BF Deal Idea without leaving any comment to the changes listed.  The items I pointed out were in her original Deal Idea.  As it was originally listed it would have left everyone frustrated as they stood stranded at the register with beeping coupons and RRs with a transaction that just didn’t work.  She corrected the problems so it should work.  (The only hiccup that might come into play might be the Venus RR that’s used as payment — that one folks will have to play by ear and adjust accordingly as it becomes clear how it will print…)

    • Lucy

Transaction #3 isn’t right.  The Gum toothbrush is only $2 and you’d only buy quantity (1) of the 2-pack to qualify for the $2 RR.  (That’s besides the price of the Revlon being $4.99 instead of the $5.99 shown and the deduction for the ThermaCare coupon that you can’t use…)

    • Thank you Jenny I REALLY REALLY appreciate you doing all of this complex calculating so we can just print, dig out some Q’s and go shopping!

    • coupons4kids

This was an awful lot of work!  I mean a lot!  Thank You!  From this working mother of 4, thank you!!!!!!!

    • Rosy

Jenny where do you get booklet in selected P&G? And ebony magazine do you get those at any store. any one please help! Thanks

      • Mcleodsc

the p and g coupons were attached to some products for the past year. I just saw some this morning attached to Duracell batteries at Rite-aid. You just have to look at the p&g products and see if they are attached. My daughter got some that were attached to Tide a couple of months ago.

        • Rosy

thank you, i will look. wish me luck. :)

LOVE the commentary by Jenny on WAGS shopping and RR….oh so TRUE!

    • Cherie

      Thank you Jenny!

    • Lucy

Culturelle $9.50 (if you printed $3 coupon when it was available 2 weeks ago you have’ll have to adjust the transaction accordingly)
      Holiday gift sack $.13

      oop $.13  Receive $9.50 RR

You’ll have paid with an initial $10RR (from week of 11/13) and have spent $.26 oop for everything.  And, you’ll have remaining $1, $2, $2, $2.50, $2.50 and $9.50 RRs in your pocket.  That’s a profit of just about $9 in just three quick transactions.

      • Heather

You have the ProSkin razor listed as $7.50. It’s $8.24. Also why would you buy 2 in one transaction when you can only get the RR for one of them?

        • Lucy

It’s not the ProSkin razor.  It’s the Gillette ProSeries Skin care  (shortened for typing ease in my scenario) that’s on sale for 2 for $7.50 with $5.50 RR wyb 2.  Check out the Ad Scan for deal specifics.

    • Kcblue2

Walgreens always confuses me. So if I wanted to buy two of the Oral B INdicators and use the .75/2 coupon would only one of the $1.50 RR’s print or would I get two?

      • Anonymous

        You’d only get one :(

    • Aevers08

Hello I have a question.  Can you use RR towards the purchase of a gift card?  Thanks. A. E.

      • Scottish04

No, RR can not be used for gift cards. I work at walgreens.

    • Anonymous

      Thank you Jenny!
3 notes to share for transaction 2:
The crest 3D White Vivid toothpaste 3oz has a list of coupon matches that are all for 4 oz. (Anyone know of 3 oz coupons for this?)

Also, in PG 10/30 there is a $1 off any 2 Old Spice products 1.7 oz or larger. This should work for Buy 2 Old Spice 4oz. body splash or spray

Finally, PG 10/16 Has $2 off one Venus razor or Venus/ Daisy disposable razor and PG 10/30 has $2 off Venus Embrace, Breeze, ProSkin, or Bikini Razor (excludes disposable). Hoping one of these will also work on this transaction.

      • Amber

The ad I saw said the Crest 3D Vivid toothpaste is for the 4 oz

    • Ktavolley03

should be fun spending the 4 $10 RR I have from last week!

    • Louie_32887

How in the world do you get the OTHER Walgreens coupons that don’t come in their weekly ad? I cannot figure that out! Can someone please explain it to me :(

      • Mcleodsc

the coupon listed above is in the christmas booklet at WAGS. You can ask for it at the checkout and you only need one because they are suppossed to just scan the coupons and give them back so you can use them another time. I only see one wags cpn listed above.
There were some wags coupons in an insert a couple weeks ago but I don’t see them in the listed scenario.

        • Louie_32887

Thanx, I’ll ask next time I shop :) I just wanted to know in general. I’ve been confused on that for a while lol. I don’t shop at Walgreens too often, mostly Rite Aid.

          • Kirsti

I just went to my Walgreens and the manager gave me the add that is running Thursday through Sunday.

      • Anonymous

Walgreens has a coupon booklet each month & they’re usually located in the same rack as the weekly ads (just inside the doors of the store).

    • Jessica Dunn

Not trying to pick apart Jenn but I do have a question just for my own clarification: Wouldn’t you have $21.50 left in RR after all your transactions instead of $12? The way I read it you should have $2 RR left over from Transaction 3, $9.50 RR left from Transaction 4 and get back $10 RR from Transaction 5. Like I said not trying to pick Jenny apart just that as she advises us to go back into the store and get something to use up our remaining RR I’m trying to figure out just how much I’ll have left over so I can plan that final transaction to use up the remaining RR. Thanks! :D

      • Amber, NC

I agree that the above scenarios do not add up to the stated amount of RRs. You have $10 & $9.50 after T4. T5 does not change anything because you give 10, get 10. So you still have $19.50 RR after spending $10.95.

    • Lisa Kinsey

I LOVE the scenario’s until I get to Wags and their shelves are cleared of some of the items then I go crazy white lady inside my head and start sweating LOL!  Keep up the good work though, it’s sooooo appreciated!  Does anyone know if there is a printable list somewhere without transaction scenarios?  Thanks!

      • Lumberton, NC….we will have plenty on black friday, in fact, I would like to personally invite you to visit the store and be shocked by he locations of all our products…we are number one for sales on this day every year in our district, and this one is no different!

    • Katproverbs3130

This is so helpful. Thank you..I do better with transactions already set up. Plus I am going at midnight to my 24 hour walgreens.

    • Amanda

Great matchups! I have a question about coupons. Do you still need the same number of items as coupons? For example, if you have 5 items and 6 coupons (including RR), don’t you need filler items?

      • Gmcouponer

Yes you will need a filler item. The rules are the same as far as I know…. 5 items will need 5 coupons…

    • Kirsti

Jenny, thank you so much!  I have some confusion with my Walgreens.  It is open 24 hours a day.  I have called twice and just went to the store to ask when the deals begin.  I have been met with very rude, beat around the bush attitudes–like maam, we are open 24  hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.  Our adds run from Sunday to Sunday.

I finally got a flier from the manager that states the add is good from Thursday through Sunday.  I am guessing that means 12:01, right?  Anybody else facing the same issue?

      • Lucy

Yes, the 24-hr Walgreens never close and the sale begins at 12:01 AM Thanksgiving morning.  However, the RRs are printed by a little machine that’s controlled by the Catalina company and they don’t necessarily do their update immediately at the stroke of midnight for the upcoming sale.  So, if you check out at midnight or shortly thereafter, you might not receive your RRs for the items you purchased.  It can be frustrating waiting for the Catalina machine update — plan accordingly…

      • Wendyl911

Yes and my store started at 12am

    • Gmcouponer

Does any one see the great deal on the Arm and Hammer laundry soap. My papers shows the black friday sale and the soap is going to be buy 1 get 2 free, for 6.99
If you have the coupon for 1.00 off 2 that makes them 2-00 a bottle and some of the bottles are the 32 load bottles…

      • Jgutierrez

        i got this thanks!!!!

      • guest

where did you find that coupon?

    • Amysqpans

Would some one explain were I would have gotten the BOOKLET IN SELECT PG PRODUCTS.. coupons…

      • Shellie

I received the coupon book inside a bag of Bounty paper towels.

    • Amariec21

Transaction # 3 is wrong math!

    • Amariec21

Also transaction number 4 has 9.50 register rewards that is never mentioned

    • just wanted to let everryone know that the Walgreens in Lumberton is not enforcing a limit on register reward items, we over ordered products just so there would be no limit! Lumberton, NC….be there!!!

      • Lewisphoto2000

Lumberton, NC is my store…I have NEVER been there and actually been able to purchase all items… Can’t wait to see if I can this time!

    • Janell

Does anyone know if Bic and Schick brands are related at all to Kimberly Clark brand? I am working out my transactions and want to use Kimberly Clark generated RR that I already have to pay for Bic and Schick items which will generate a RR… any help would be appreciated!

      • Wendyl911

they are not it worked for me tonight

    • Wendyl911

I totally KICKED A$$ at Walgreens tonight.. LOTS of FREE stuff and I think I did about 45 transactions.. Also if anyone in in the West side Volusia county area Publix will accept all of the RR from walgreens. Happy shopping everyone :)

      • Jgutierrez

        45 transactions????? omg

    • Cristascoupons

I cannot seem to print any of the printable coupons.  I don’t have sufficient privileges whatever that means.  Do I need a different zip code and if so, which one?

    • I did 2 transactions today, Thursday and got 2 of the  free red box rentals and i used both codes and they worked. I took my 2 movies home and decided to check out my bank statement and it charged me $1.00 for each even though at the redbox it said they were free. So if you did the free rentals also please check your bank statement and make sure that you didnt get charged for renting them when they were suppose to be free.  And i did have to do 2 different rentals , I didnt try to do them both at the same time.

      • Ladybugpam

If I remember correctly, it’s just a “pending” charge and will be removed once you return the movie on time.

    • Jessi Champion

Went to swansboro, nc walgreens today around 10:30, store was quiet, everything was there in stock (they over-ordered woohoo!) and it was a much calmer experience than normal in wags.  The manager mentioned they were going to do a 2 transaction limit per customer (after me) when she came over to help with something…apparently there was some trouble with the early birds hogging up the front registers being inconsiderate.  I hate that the new computers won’t let you add more items once you start ringing coupons.  I could have insisted she have the transaction voided, but I don’t want to make enemies out of cashiers, I need them too much!  I did 5 transactions and was very happy leaving.  They wouldn’t take the thermacare coupons. The prep-h printable coupons weren’t ringing up and the prep-h totables weren’t in the picture so they wouldn’t modify it.  It was big ding in my scenario, but I was in positive mode today, so nothing but smiles for everyone :)

      • Jessi Champion

should also say that the bic razors you had to buy 2 to get the RR back, the 2 was TINY on the ad, so not as good as I thought (I only had 1 coupon, so don’t tell my husband I paid for razors or he’ll kill me!).  I caught it when the RR didn’t print.

    • Ash0185

I had a military discount. The Philips Toothbrushes were on sale for 34.99. I used a $15.00 off coupon got it for $16.82 with tax and the military discount. Then I mailed off my $10.00 rebate. If you have not guessed it…I just paid $6.82 for a $79.99 toothbrush. Made my day.

      • Laura

I got the oral b 79.99 toothbrush. It was on sale 39.99 I used the $10 newspaper coupon and a $10.00 rr. Paid $23 with tax & have the $20 rebate I’ll get back from P&G so it will end up costing only the tax of $3. The lady behind me was mad because she said she’d ordered one online Mon for $55 and thought THAT was a great deal.

I didn’t even make it to the store until a half hour before closing tonight and was shocked to find they still had all of the 18 items that would be free with rr. Even the two with the 9.50 & 10.00 rr’s.

I was confused at first because there was not a single shelf tag indicating a rr on any of the items, or any ad showing any of them. I asked the cashier if they had just been offered certain hours & I missed it but he didn’t seem to know a thing about any rr deals today. Then I finally found them, they’d put them all together on one aisle and that’s where all the rr tags were. The energy strips and the crest toothpastes had the most in stock with about 50 of each still there, but they did have from 2-20 each of the other 16 items. I think I’ll go back in the morning and get more.

        • Arnol017

Did you have the $25 off Sonicare q? It was in the paper within the last few wks. Using that and the $10 store Q mine was totally FREE! I’m not sure if they will le me do the mail in rebate too but if they do, money maker!!!

    • Hallj5

I went to walgreens and purchased the thermacare neck shoulder and wrist heatwrap and a $2 off coupon popped out used it and paid .66 after tax plus got rr $2.00mm!!!!

    • jess

I have a question….Do you pay tax on the items at WG before coupons?  I ended up paying more on each transaction than I had anticipated because the tax was based on the item’s price before coupons.  Is this correct??

      • Imarriedryan

yeah, you pay the tax before the coupons… that is why when you have coupons on items that are free, it helps with the tax.

      • jess

Thanks!  Could you/someone give me a short scenario where I could get the tax paid for, please?  I am new to all of this and trying to figure out exactly how to do it.  I couldn’t seem to do it Thursday.  I would have a total of 4.00 and have a RR for 4.00, but it would not let me use it. But would let me use one for 3.00.  I think this is what was happening… Not sure….it was pretty hectic and stressful! :) I have seen some of the scenarios mentioned on here that the product would be free +profit, but I couldn’t seem to make that work.THANKS!!

    • Emily

I have a question. Why? I get that it is awesome to get free stuff but….
If the only thing you needed was lipstick then you just paid $10.95 for it. Granted you have the freebies, but it is all just random stuff (energy tabs and Chialife Seeds) What do you do to make it worth it?
Do you use the remaining RR for stuff you would normally purchase?
I totally get the grocery stuff (you are helping my family save alot of money, thanks), I just don’t understand the drugstore deals.

      • Laura

I don’t do rr’s much because most of the time they don’t seem worth it to me because they’re not really for products I use. To pay for something useless in order to get something free doesn’t make sense to me.
But on this deal I got toothpaste, toothbrush, floss picks & the heat wrap because I will def use all of those. I paid $9 & my 4 rr’s are $9 so when I go back I will get large packs of toilet paper & paper towels and 2 small fillers and only pay a few cents. So this time around it was worth it to me.

    • Maria

Had a great experience in my local Wags last night.  Jenny, your scenarios worked perfectly.  Bought $912 worth of stuff for $60, which was mostly tax.  Also, I had a $104  dollars returned after maximizing profits with manufacturer coupons.  I’ve just started this extensive (don’t like to say “extreme”) couponing and Black Friday was the perfect deal maker.  Thanks a bunch!

    • Laura

I just did the deal from the front cover of the paper, buy a 3 pack of $10 itunes gift cards for $30 get a $10 walgreens gift card free. The cashier said she didn’t know how to deduct $10 for the wag gc. I asked haven’t you had to do this numerous times yesterday & today? She said no, she hadn’t had a single customer do the deal. I must be alone, I thought that was a pretty good deal. It was limit 2 so I looked at it like 6 Christmas gifts for my young nephews earned a free $20 wags card for me!
