walgreens prescription transfer

Walgreens is offering a $25 Walgreens Gift Card to anyone who transfers  a prescription to their pharmacy.  You will need to register online to get the offer.

I wanted to test this to see if it prints a coupon to take in or if you really have to do it all online, but all of our prescriptions are already at Walgreens… so I have nothing to transfer.  If this does print out a coupon to take in don’t forget that most other pharmacies will accept competitor pharmacy coupons (even Kroger and Publix).

This deal expires on 4/30.

    • jkdfsjdkfd

I just tried to do this, but it makes you actually order your prescription and enter a pick up date within the next 5 days. I can only get my prescription once a month and I just got it so I don’t need it until 3+ more weeks.

      • sissy

the coupon said offer expires on 5.30.12, so maybe you will still have time.

        • jkdfsjdkfd

You’re right, I’ll have to try it again in a few weeks.

    • Paravel43

I had a prescription that I needed to fill so I transferred it to Walgreens. After going through the entire order/transfer process it gives you a link to a pdf where you can save and print the coupon. It worked for me :)

      • Paravel43

You have to show the coupon when you pick up the prescription and then you are given a $25 giftcard. Excited about this!

        • kk

dont hv the coupon to show? how do u get one?

          • Paravel43

You have to transfer a prescription through the walgreens website. After submitting the prescription to your cart you will see a link for the coupon. You print from there.

      • kk

        do u hv the link
        can’t seem to find it?
        thx for any help

      • KATHY

did the link go to your email or pop up after registering transfer. I did not get anything on the page after registering the transfer.

        • Paravel43

The link was on the top of the page after submitted my prescription to my cart. It did not come from email.

    • Rose_lunsford

      YEAH!!!!!

    • Brad

SUHWEEET! Took 5 minutes; I have a generic skin cream that costs about ~$10 and that i can use an HSA account to pay for, so its pretty much a net gain of $25 for me :)

    • VJ

This is great! You qualify for a $25 card for every prescription you transfer. I transferred one, and then I tried for a second, and it worked. I’ll pick them up on separate days so there’s no confusion. You can only get one card per transaction.

    • CatBlue

THANK YOU!  My Kroger does not require a coupon.

    • sissy

The coupon says the deal expires on 5/30/12

    • Carrieb9

Does this deal work on new prescriptions that you haven’t turned in anywhere yet?

      • sissy

You could take the script to CVS, and ask them not to fill it yet, but just to put it in their system. Then 1-2 days later, go to this form and transfer it to Walgreens.

    • Couponeagle11

All the publix in tuscaloosa, alabama told me that they are no longer allowed to take coupons like this for prescriptions. I asked why, the store managers and pharmacist said a new law came out no longer allowing them to accept them. I wanted to see what you all think. I thought that maybe tuscaloosa publix just dont do this. Any thoughts would be appreciated

      • Layla74

I work in a pharmacy in Georgia, so I dont know about different states, but typically the reason for giving a gift card is to avoid state laws that restrict bribes or ethics problems. There are many laws that prohibit pharmacies from influencing patients but I think I would call a different pharmacy in your area and see if they know about a new law. Sounds fishy to me.

      • Jules

I was told the same thing at a Target in Montgomery – they said they can take a coupon for a “new” prescription, but not one for a transferred one.  They also said it was a new law that was passed last year.

      • Guest

Bogus. Limits on GC RX offers only applies to federal controlled substances or the state of Ohio (Ohio passed a law last year allowing for 1 transfer per RX).

      • mom77

The fine print at the bottom of the webpage says “Offer not available in Alabama, Arkansas, Massachusetts, Mississippi, North Dakota, Puerto Rico, New York, and New Jersey.”

    • Valleygal

Does anyone know where I can find the prices of prescriptions at Walgreens… Want to transfer but not pay more…

      • mom77

        I always call and ask.

      • sissy

walgreens can only give you the cash price. If you have insurance…you can contact them to find out the price. Some even have a do it your self price comparison from different pharmacy for your medication on their website. I know BCBSFL does.

      • Terryberry219

try the walgreens website under pharmacy they should have something there

    • Loni Williams

Just as an FYI if you read the fine print, it does say not valid in Alabama.
I tried to get my prescription this morning and was told that they couldn’t do anything because of the state laws!  I had them all transferred back to the original pharmacy.

    • Nice informative blog, thanks for sharing.

    • Paravel43

My Wags was not at all ready to do this deal. Evidently I’d been the first one to do it. After waiting 10 minutes for the manger to find her way over, she was using the wrong giftcard. The pharmacist then chimed in that the $25 goes on a Wellness Card which she had in a box. Well, they did not work either. The pharmacist seemed to be the only aware of the deal and supposedly systems were ‘ready for this’. Well, they were not. Never got the wellness card to work so she just gave me a $25 giftcard. She said she’ll have to figure it out later. Took 20-25 minutes, but got $25 for filling a $5 prescription. Now I know why I only shop at CVS :) (and will transfer my prescription back there next month!)

      • Jazzyg13

people like you transferring back and forth make it so difficult

        • Paravel43

what is difficult about it? i don’t transfer back and forth. i’ve always used CVS, but if they are going to offer a deal like this I will take them up on it. My “transferring back and forth” as you put it had nothing to do with them not knowing what they were doing.

          • sissy

I had the exact experience as you, except for they gave up after 20 minutes or so….and asked if I could come back tomorrow after they had time to talk to a manager. they tried scanning a few cards and just couldn’t get it to work.
If CVS takes walgreen transfer coupons, I wonder if we could use this same coupon to transfer back to CVS and get a CVS card??

            • paravel43

Sissy – which Walgreens did you have trouble at? I’m in eastern NC. It was a manager who couldn’t figure this out, and she even called another manager on the phone for help. It’s just irritating that they were not ready for this. The pharmacist was the only one who knew about it, and she had received just one email about it, that was the only communication the store had received.

            • sissy

I am in south Florida…..so it must be a national problem! :(

            • paravel43

Oh, lol! I guess so. Seems to be a recurring theme at Wags where the employees are clueless and they don’t want to go out of their way if someone doesn’t work like it’s supposed to. That’s why I don’t shop there often. At CVS they go out of their way to make the customer happy and to makes things work right. At least they did end up giving me a giftcard, but the manager was reluctant because it was going to cause red tape later for her. Well, sorry, you offered the deal so you have to honor it!

            • paravel43

I meant…”if someTHING doesn’t work like it should” not someone!

        • CTaylor

I transfer each month because of the incentives that the stores themselves offer.. and pharmacies thank me each time for transferring and giving them my business. =)

        • Jillsjunk135

Jazzyg13, If they did not want people to do this, they would not offer the incentive. It is a game that they play, and it is a game they invite their customers to play. Only those patient enough to go through with it are rewarded. If Walgreens makes the offer, then you can’t fault individuals for taking them up on it. Walgreens should be ready for the transaction if they are making it available to the public through their website.

      • Countrysweetie5940

Most CVS pharmacies will accept walgreens new or transferred coupons so you dont have to transfer at all.

        • sissy

do you mean, if I took a new script from my doctor to CVS with this coupon, they would honor it? but it say transfered??

      • Savingsbycoupons

I had the same issue at my walgreens. I waited almost 40 minutes while numerus people tried to figure it out, and phone calls were made. The employees were friendly and kept thanking me for my patience, but it was frustrating. They ended up giving me a $25 regular gift card too…..The employee seemed to think they didnt load the IPC # into the system…

        • paravel43

I think you are correct. The manager kept saying that she thought something should have been loaded into the computer, but the pharmacist kept saying “well, in the email they said it would be ready to go!” guess not!

    • mom77

Fine print at the bottom of the webpage – “Offer not available in Alabama, Arkansas, Massachusetts, Mississippi, North Dakota, Puerto Rico, New York, and New Jersey.”

      • Nat

Thanks mom77 for saving me a bunch of time!

        • Wendylane4au

Me too!!  Glad I read your post!!

    • Lynn

oh goodness, we had such a bad experience at walgreens pharmacy years ago that we transferred 4 prescriptions to cvs. they automatically sent me a mail offer for a $25 gift card PER prescription (so $100 total) if i would transfer back. nope. i’m frugal, but money can’t replace filling our medications correctly!

    • Jillsjunk135

It did print a coupon. I do know for a fact that CVS has honored these in the past.  I am going to take it in to CVS tomorrow before I go to Walgreens, because I prefer CVS in every way.

      • kk

do u possibly hv the pdf coupon?

      • sissy

How would you be transferring to CVS, if they are your pharmacy? Or, do you think CVS will honor it on a new script?

    • Bbjrevis

please help. I done this and a pop up blocker came up before I could print the coupon. Is there away of getting it back? thanks

      • paravel43

My link to save and print coupon was not on a popup. It was on the top of the page after I submitted my prescription to my shopping cart. I don’t know how you can get it back now. sorry!

    • Smel630

Here is the deal.  I called the store and they knew nothing.!!
      I then called corporate.
You have to fill the prescription, then they will mail you a gift card.  The site says nothing about it.

NO thank you, I am not going to the trouble to transfer a prescription and wait for a gift card that may or may not come in the mail and to top it off, I can’t even order the prescription on line, because of the identity questions and they are accessing incorrect information about my husband and myself.  They have calculated his graduation date based on his date of birth, not his actual graduation date.

      • paravel43

That’s not the deal at all. The pharmacist at my Wags got an email about this promotion. She had a box of Wellness cards and a pile of these coupon looking things. She said that after the prescription is scanned during checkout they should be able to scan MY coupon that I printed online, their coupon, then the Wellness card. Well, it didn’t work but that’s the way they were told it was supposed to work.

        • sissy

I was told pretty much the same thing. It seems that corporate did not add the wellness card into the system, that is what the manager at my walgreens thought anyhow.
You ARE suppose to get the coupon when you pick up your script….hopefully it is a glitch they will have worked out real soon.

    • Christi G.

ACTUALLY, I did it online just like it said.  Once I transferred my RX I printed my voucher for my $25 gift card.  All I have to do is go pick up and pay for my RX later today when it is ready.  If I hit a snafu, I will add another comment.  Otherwise you can assume Walgreens is truthful.

      • paravel43

good luck! that was the easy part…picking it up and getting the $25 giftcard didn’t go smoothly at all (see my comment below). let us know how you make out!

    • sissy

I just called Walgreens corporate number, and the lady I spoke with said she had not heard of any problems with this promo.
What?? Are these store managers not reporting this?
I was expecting to hear, yes….we are aware and are in process of fixing the problem. How can it get fixed if corporate does know there is a problem!!

    • Gl Parks

I just got an antibiotic presciption  (no refills) for my son for strep throat. The doctor just called it in to rite aid. Could I move this over to Walgreens and it would work or does it have to be refillable prescriptions?

      • sissy

yes you can, just go to the link above and fill in the info. When you get to the last page, there is a place at the top (you have to look for it) to print the coupon.
        Should work just fine…goodluck!

    • Heathercmg

Has anyone actually tried a CVS yet? I am going to go out today to try!

    • Searching4coupons

are there any NEW prescription deals?

    • Chele28

Walgreens in Savannah would not honor this deal

    • Gville SC

I am in Greenville, SC.  I transferred a Rx and had no problems with this deal.  Also while using my gc on the way out at front register, the cashier showed me another “transfer & receive $25 gc” coupon.  The expiration is 5/30/12.  Going to try it again bc I will have another Rx to transfer from CVS. Thought everyone would want to check their local Wags.

    • me.redith.com

Here is a link to the $25 coupon as a PDF. I’m going to cancel my Walgreens order then bring it to Publix and see if they will accept it. https://www.walgreens.com/images/cart/25dollar-coupon.pdf

    • Laura_urestischmit

I also had an issue w my RX getting transferred.. After 40 minutes waked away without RX or GC… Hubby’s went through but it took person almost 45 minutes to figure it out!!! When I asked about how many RXs I could transfer, they said one per person… Too bad because I could have moved 4 meds. If it wasn’t for the gift card, I would have never moved my RXs to Walgreens.. It’s always
a bad experience at the pharmacy.

      • Girljar

I had the same experience today.  There is a reason I don’t keep my prescriptions at Walgreens. I had a HORRIBLE experience, and every single person in line had some sort of issue at t pharmacy. I, too, walked out without my prescription and I left my cart full of merchandise at the counter as well. I will be contacting corporate, and ifthey  don’t rectify the situation, I will not step foot in their stors again.
