Weekly Weigh In

While I’m still losing, this week I’ve been struggling with still not being content where I am.  Sometimes it’s really easy to look in the mirror and not like what it shows but forget the big picture of what it once was.  Mirrors just aren’t that encouraging.  Mirrors in a department store… even worse.

We have three weeks until we go for a planned day at the beach.  I realized last week that my swim suit is too baggy (yay!) so I’ll need a new one… while rejoicing one minute it’s so easy to be discourage seconds later when the mirror doesn’t look the way I hope it would.  So today is my build yourself up encouragement day.

weight loss encouragement

There are about 1000 more quotes online that you can turn too, but this one for me is enough.  I want this to be a quick fix and I have to remember it’s not.  So even if the bathing suit doesn’t look that great in May… maybe I’ll need another one before the end of the summer!  That’s my new goal anyway.

I’m still happy to report that the weight is still coming off.  This week I’m down 2 lbs, which is wonderful after two weeks of not losing.  Having the stomach bug this past weekend was a tiny boost, so hopefully as we recover that weight stays off.

Starting Weight (6 weeks ago): 202
Last Week: 185.6
Current Weight: 183.6
Goal Weight: 170

I am pondering one thing I’ve never done before to help me feel a tad better about the swim suit thing… splurging on a spray tan.  Anyone done one before?  Was it worth it?  I’m crazy frugal so it’s a big step to pay for something that will only last maybe a week, but I’m tempted.  Yes, I did try self tanner already and I looked like I went rolling in splotchy mud, that option is out.  Any other ideas?

      You’re doing great!

You’re doing great, Jenny! As a former sun “worshipper” I personally don’t recommend tanning sprays. Skin cancer is a serious and sometimes deadly issue and I wish we would stop glorifying tanned skin and associating it with being healthy. Use lots of higher SPF lotion, wear a hat and don’t worry about having a tan. Your face will also love you for it when you get older!

I had one spray tan. It looked amazing. I did not use a booth. I was actually airbrushed. Wish I could afford to do it all the time. Congrats on the weight loss. Keep it up. ????

I’ve never done a spray tan, I normally fully embrace my pale self (and I live in Florida!). I have used a sort of self tanner, by Jergen’s I think, that gradually gives you a tan look. It’s more like a lotion than a self tanner. Congrats on the weight loss, you’re doing great :)

Sometimes Sun Tan City does $5 spray tans! They are amazing and there are no scary UV rays to worry about!

Jenny, thanks for sharing this journey with us. I, too, am on a weight loss journey, and I identify with everything you are saying. My favorite quote is “Nothing succeeds like success”. When I do actually make progress, that is my motivator and incentive to keep going, so I just try to do what it takes to have success.
As for spray tans, I love the way a tan looks. I am older now and not as in to it as I used to be, and am originally from Charleston where the beach every weekend was a way of life. I absolutely feel much more attractive with a tan. My circumstances right now are that I don’t have much of an opportunity for a real tan, so I use tan in a bottle. I think they have really improved over the years. I am loving the glow I have right now with mine and I am keeping that going. I urge you to get a spray tan or tan in a bottle!

From one Mom to another, don’t feel guilty about buying clothing that you need while you lose weight. Go get yourself a bathing suit that you can feel comfortable in while you are at the beach! You work hard everyday and it is okay to spend some of your hard earned money on yourself!

        Yes yes yes!

I just want to say I love reading this every time you post. I am a mom of four. After my last baby I had quite a bit of baby weight. My mom encouraged me to do weight watchers. I went every week to weigh ins. I was right at 200 and now I’m between 155-160. I had to buy some serious clothes. I go straight to clearance racks and usually use a coupon code on top of that. If you want quick and cheap Walmart active wear is good. In the men’s section they have really nice t-shirts (that aren’t fitted) for like $4. I have never tried bottle tan but have heard great things of spray tan. Don’t judge but I use tanning bed. I am still walking on tread mill and try to eat the best I can. Some days are good. Some days only a mountain dew and chocolate will fix. I think you are doing awesome.
