Weekly Weigh In

It feels like it was just Monday, this week has flown by.  I was only at home for one day this past week, so I’ve only checked in on the scale once.  It didn’t show any changes from the previous week and I’m not too surprised since I’ve been eating on the go a lot.  No complaints here though as long as it doesn’t go up!

Before I left for my trip last week I spent the weekend cleaning out the closet.  Anything that was too big now went straight to Goodwill and I played dress up trying on all sorts of things I haven’t worn in ages.  It’s like having a whole new wardrobe!  While the scale might not have changed this week, there are ways to tell that I’m still making progress so I’m going to focus there for motivation.

  • I ran for 11 minutes without stopping!  The girls and I have been using the C25k app to get ready for a fun run in two weeks, we are only up to 5 minute runs with app, but while I was away I decided to go without the app and just see what I could do.  It helped that it was completely flat along the water in San Diego compared to my hilly gravel driveway at home, but 11 minutes of running isn’t something I’ve been able to do in a long long time.
  • While it’s not an exciting reason, yesterday I wore a black dress to my grandmother’s visitation that I wore to my college graduation.  That was 14 years ago or probably better to say, 5 kids ago.
  • Cleaning out the closet I got rid of 3 sizes of clothes!  I have decided to cut all ties to these items, I don’t want to even to think about needing them again.

I have about 16 pounds to go to my first goal, and I’m realizing that by that point probably nothing in my closet will fit. To keep me motivated toward the end go I grabbed two gift cards this week that I’m leaving on my night stand. I went to raise.com and got a $150 gift card to the Loft for $95 and I used Swagbucks to get a $50 gift card to Lands End for free. I don’t plan on using them until I’ve hit at least the 170 mark, but the idea of a tiny shopping spree sounds great (that 14 year old black dress isn’t the only thing in my closet that old).

I’m up for other ways to keep yourself motivated too. Anyone have ways that help from day to day?

I am using my fit bit and also recording my calories. I am also doing workouts 5 days per week, but I can’t seem to get past 3-4lbs lost! I would love to know any tips you have because this week although I stayed within calories and did all 5 workouts plus hit over 10k steps on the fit bit, I actually gained weight this week. So sorry about your grandmother but kudos to you on your weightloss! My first goal is also 170 down from 200.

For me I am trying to not drink any calories and also trying to stay around 1300-1400 calories rather than the 1520 that MyFitnessPal gives me when I track things. Also I would recommend not accounting for exercise into your calorie allotment (in case you are). That means if you work out you don’t get to eat any more. Cutting out sugar drinks and exra carbs was a huge step for me. I also know that the Nutrisystem that I started with has you maintain 1200 calories the first two weeks to start you quicker. That helped to considerably shrink my portion sizes so that now I’m full much faster.

How long did you do Nutrisystem? Did you buy it for you and your husband or just you? What carbs did you previously eat that you don’t eat now or have reduced?
Congrats on your weight loss and increase in stamina!

I did Nutrisystem for one month and only for me. My husband wants to lose weight, but not really that much… My extra carbs were usually snack foods, the girls would have crackers or cheez-its and I’d eat half the box (or what felt like it). Also as sides to our meals I reduced my starches considerably half portions compared to before dieting or not doing the starch at all.

I love Loft! I realized a couple of months ago that I hadn’t gone shopping for new clothes since we had a pipe burst right above my closet. 1/2 of my clothes were ruined. Loft was great! Enjoy picking out some new things soon, you’ve earned it :)

Congratulations !!! I am throwing my fat clothes out as fast as I can fit into my smaller sizes. I may not end up owning much but seeing a somewhat flat stomach is priceless. 170 now and 20 more to go

Congratulations on your weight loss, I’ve been using a Garmin activity tracker and that has really helped me keep motivated. I walk at least 10,000 steps or more everyday and have lost 19 lbs. in 6 weeks. I eat more fruits and vegetables than in the past and have cut out a lot of sugar in my diet.

I love the idea of small treats for small accomplishments! Like new earrings for logging all of your meals for a week, manicure for that 5lb goal (lots of groupons and livingsocial deals to help here), new haircut for that 10-20lb goal! NONFOOD rewards to keep the health and fitness on track!! Maybe a massage for a 35lb goal! Keep it interesting and fun!! :) HTHs
