Weekly Weigh In

I didn’t post last week as I had no scale and was pretty sure the number wasn’t going to be so pretty…  I like to eat, that’s probably not a surprise and I really enjoy food with my family.  So, vacations with family and food are a tricky place to stay on a diet.  It also doesn’t help that my husbands favorite hobby on vacation is to make a different flavor of homemade ice cream everyday.  That’s a lot of ice cream, and being the sweet encouraging wife that I try to be, I “need” to try every flavor.  You see where this is going…

We got home from the beach and when I stepped on the scale I wasn’t really shocked to see that I had gained 3.5 lbs.  Seeing cause and effect with food is a good thing really.  I know I shouldn’t eat it and within a few days I see the proof as to why.  We’ve been home a week now and I haven’t gained or lost this week.  I am blaming this on vacations ruining good habits.  I didn’t exercise much at all while we were gone and I continued that bad habit for the last week.  I also didn’t track much of what I ate, and I continued that bad habit too.

excuses don't burn calories

Two weeks down, it’s time to get back to work.  No excuses.  Today I set the alarm, woke up my big girls and went for a run.  While the scale may not show great progress this week, the run was the encouragement boost I needed today.  We ran 3 minute segments and at the end of each I wasn’t winded and could have gone on a bit further.  This is by far better than where we started and it’s probably been a month since we last ran!

My other encouragement this week was dropping another size.  So the scale isn’t my friend, and that’s okay.  I’m now a size 12 down from size 18 I started at 13 weeks.  One last huge moment for me, I wore shorts this weekend.  My kids were slightly shocked.  It’s probably been 3-4 years since the last time I wore shorts.  It’s a big self esteem thing for me really, we all have our struggles and this is mine.  While you aren’t going to catch me in them everyday, I wasn’t self conscious at all and was very happy to be cooler as we hung outside most of the weekend.

This weeks numbers:

Starting Weight (13 weeks ago): 202
Two Weeks Ago: 179.1
Current Weight: 182.6
Goal Weight: 165

The big goal this week – no more going backwards!  I have my big girls holding me accountable as we aim to run at least three days this week and I will work out twice in the garage with weights.  So five workout days total, and I’m also tracking everything this week (even the brownie we had with a birthday celebration at lunch).  I also did really well with little goals before the beach so I’m setting a new little goal of losing 12 lbs before the Becoming Conference that I’m co-hosting in 8 weeks.  It’s a reasonable goal and will be big help trying to strive for it.

Have any excuses you need to give up this week?
