How about a real giveaway this week (not just coupons)!
Thanks to Amber with Usborne Books;

Someone will win $25 to get whatever they like from Usborne Books.

We love these books at our house! Our Usborne board books are the only ones that have survived through three babies/toddlers and still look great. They have books for all ages both fiction and non-fiction and many of our friends use their books in homeschooling.  You will also find many of these books in your public and school libraries.

Since we are all about deals here, check out the list of books that are on closeout 40-70% off and this month’s internet specials. If you are like our family and want good board books, a lot of them are regularly under $5.

A few that caught my eye…

Note: The links above take you to an e show hosted by Southern Savers. If the e show earns any free books these will all be donated to the Somali Bantu Refugee Resettlement program here in Columbia.

To enter the giveaway:
Comment below and tell me what your favorite book is (time to learn something else about you other than your savings habits).  You have until Friday morning to enter, please only one entry per person.

**If you want a second chance to win free books, you can go here and register for a $50 giveaway that is done monthly off of Amber’s site.**

    • Catrina

My favorite book is Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell. It was one that just captured my attention as a young girl and really stuck with me. It’s a great story of survival, determination and hope. One I honestly hope my daughters will one day enjoy and quite possibly cherish.

    • My favorite book ever is Les Miserable! I love reading and I’m hoping to instill that love in my son also! This would be a wonderful way to do that!!! Thanks!

    • My favorite book would have to be the Lord of the Rings (I’m considering the trilogy as one book since that’s how Tolkien initially wanted it published). He truly was an artisan of words and I never get tired of reading them!

    • Kate

I love the Book of Art. My son is 4 and he is loving art and absorbing all he can about artists! we love borrowing these books from the library! thanks!

    • Janet B.

My favorite book is ” A Man called Dave”. Thanks for the opportunity to win these books. I love your site.

    • Seems like its been forever since I’ve read a good grown up book haha I used to love to read any book by Stephen King, especially Pet Sematary. Now it seems my favorite book is Mike Mulligan And His Steam Shovel. My boys can’t get enough of it and I have to admit, I love it too! haha

    • Cranky old woman

My favorite all time book, (which I’ve read at least a dozen times!!) is Stranger In A Strange Land, by Robert Heinlein. Currently, we are doing all we can to help my seven year old grandson learn to read. He suffers from ADHD, and a mild form of Autism, so anytime we can find a good childs book, we are all about it. Thanks!!

    • my six year old daughter loves the ‘See Inside Your Body’ book!

    • Lane

The book I remember loving most as a small child was Pat the Bunny. Since becoming an adult, and before becoming a believer, my favorite was The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand, but now, beyond a doubt, my most beloved book is The Bible.

Thanks for all you do, Jenny.

    • I knew that name (Usborne) sounded familiar…our school library has the Fairy Cooking cookbook and my daughter hogged it all last year. We would turn it in one day and recheck it out the next! I have to admit, I thought it was a pretty neat cookbook, too. As far as my favorite book goes…there are so many, depending on the genre. I’d have to say that Pride and Prejudice is my favorite fiction piece.

    • Tara

My favorite book(s) are the Harry Potter series! I love reading them and then watching the movies! I am sad that the books are over though – so I’ve been reading the Twilight series which I also like a lot!

    • My favorite book is “The Giving Tree”- a classic whether you are young and old.

    • I have an 18 month old daughter, and we love Good Night Moon around our house.

As for me, I am an English teacher turned stay-at-home mom, so I love the classics–The Great Gatsby, any Shakespeare, Frankenstein, The Bell Jar, etc. etc.

    • “The Giving Tree” is my favorite book. A classic for the young and old

    • ok. my favorite book is a book wrote in spanish class in 8th grade. Pedro the pickle – lol. I actually read it to my kids now although my spanish is horrible they don’t seem to notice :)

My favorite books would be a toss between Wuthering Heights and any Jane austin book. I tihnk i was the only person excite din english when we found out the book we were reading was wuthering heights!

    • Marg

My list of favorite books for children includes Pippi Longstocking.
She might be a bad influence, but she’s a good bad influence :)

    • I enjoy fiction and non-fiction. Fictional series I am reading currently: Nora Roberts writing as “J.D.ROBB” I like to read the entire series if possible starting at the first and then moving through and watching how the characters build, but even more exciting is witnessing the writer grow. Post American World, Obama Nation/, are my two recent good “non fiction” reads. I love reading and if you make time to read for yourself, even if only fifteen minutes worth, your children will value you as a person that reads for their own enrichment; as well and make them see it is natural to visit the library and bring one home for pure entertainment. The educational benefits emanate.

    • Beth

MY favorite book by far, A Prayer for Owen Meany. My favorite book to read to my boys and the one that always gets a smile, Is Your Mama a Llama. As a librarian, it really makes me happy to see them get excited about their books.

    • Carla Backitis

I love and live for books! My favorite book is Robert McCammon’s Swan Song. It’s one of the few books I bought and own, most I get from the library.
I am trying to pass on my love of books to my son, who is almost 5. Right now MY favorite kids book of his is Knuffle Bunny.

    • Julieann

I love the Left Behind series from Tim LaHaye and the Redemption series by Karen Kingsbury.

    • Elizabeth

Choosing a favorite would be so difficult for me, but I imagine if I had to choose it would be the Little House series. I have many runners up that come very close, but even to this day I re-read the Laura Ingalls Wilder books and they are still inpirational to me.

    • I love books, I don’t think I could choose one favorite. I did just finish The Shack and really enjoyed it! I also enjoyed one called Velvet Elvis by Rob Bell.

    • Gini

I know I’m risking sounding cliche, but my favorite book is the Bible…I picked it up and started reading 6 years ago, and haven’t been able to get it to stop doing stuff in my heart ever since. I have never enjoyed a book or had one impact my life with the magnitude I’ve experienced from reading this amazingly wonderful book.

    • Linda Griggs

My favorite book is The Secret Garden. It was my favorite as a child, and now I enjoy reading it to my kids.

    • My favorite book of late is My Life In France. By Julia Child. I loved every word.

    • MelRae

My favorite fiction book is “Redeeming Love” by Francine Rivers. Francine was a romance novelist until she became a Christian in the 1980s. This book is a retelling of the Bible story of Hosea and Gomer. This book will absolutely touch your heart! It’s one of those “can’t put it down until you’re done” kind of books. I have read it at least twice, the first time over a weekend.

I am currently re-reading Francine Rivers’s “A Voice in the Wind”. Also highly recommended. The story of Hadassah will move you!

    • JennyG

I love to read all kinds of fiction–in particular the Harry Potter series and anything by John Grisham or Michael Creighton. My 9 month old loves to sit and read and turn the pages. His favorite is a cloth book, Sparky the Dog, that he has smiled at since he was 3 months old! I am so glad to pass on the joy of reading to him!

    • Jamie

My fav is You Are Special by Max Lucado. It has such a powerful message that not only my children can learn from, but also I can take to heart. Thanks for the chance!!

    • My favorite children’s books are Goodnight Moon and Guess How Much I Love You. I love reading them to our daughter. I also like the silly adult books such as Confessions of a Shopaholic and Nanny Diaries. They are ones that you can read at the beach, watch your child, and still carry on an adult conversation. Gotta love those since I have trouble finding the time to sit and read. :)

    • Sue Edelman

I love every book! Among my favorites are is the Laura Ingalls series. In a way, the challenges we face today are similar to those faced in those books.

    • Glenda

My very favorite is the Bible…but that’s probably a given. Another I’ve enjoyed recently is “March” by Geraldine Brooks. If you were a fan of Alcott’s “Little Women” as a child and want to know what Father was up to during the Civil War, read this Pulitzer Prize winner!

    • Laura F

Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell. I read this when I was in 4th grade and read it every year until I graduated HS. About 8 yrs after HS I found a copy of it at Barnes and Noble and bought it. I was so excited! So I now continue my annual reading. :)

(Poor Little Miss Muffett has spider stickers stuck on her face! For some reason, this is hilarious to a 2-year-old!) I am in love with the early reader, “China” and its beautiful pictures and peek into the culture of a country so far away and so different from our own.

    • Melissa

My favorite book growing up was Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. In a town of Chew and Swallow everyone grabs their plates, cups, forks, and spoons and head outside because their food falls from the sky and the townsfolk loved it until one day….Now my 14 year old son and I are reading the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer.

    • Jenny- i love gone with the wind as well- so much so that my wedding was a civil war theme :) We have 550 guests and about 300 of them dressed up. It was also on TLC’s A Wedding Story because of the theme….

    • Yo’Momma

I just want to say that Usborne books are AWESOME!!!!

    • tracy

As a child, I loved the Wizard of Oz books. They’re so fanciful and fun. I wanted to live in a place where lunchpails grew on trees. As an adult I read every day — as I brush my teeth, wash dishes, nurse. The Number One Ladies’ Detective Agency series is wonderful. Lonesome Dove, The World According To Garp, The Good Earth and Cold Mountain are also wonderful. Maybe my all-time favorite nonfiction book is Last Chance To See by Douglas Adams. He takes a trip around the world to see almost-extinct animals. Hilarious. (I’d love to win some Usborne books for my 4-year-old and 8-month-old; love their colors, sturdiness and content.)

    • Heather

    • Tonya

My favorite book generally seems to be the one I am currently reading, lol:)That would be The Excellent Wife.

    • Christine

Another cliche person here, my favorite book is the Bible.

For fiction, I have always loved a book my mom read to me when I was young– Jonica’s Island by Gladys Malvern. It’s out of print now, but a delightful book if you can find it.

    • Kimberly

I haven’t taken time to read a book for myself lately….but, I love reading any kind of book to my kiddos…..my fave? probably anything Dr. Suess!!

    • Lindsay

My favorite book is called the Book of Mormon. It is another testament of Jesus Christ and companion of the Bible. It is an ancient record that records the history of the ancient inhabitants of the North and South American continents as they were brought to this land by the Lord. It is a compilation of the writings and teachings of many ancient prophets who all testify of Christ and the Plan of Salvation. The crowning event is the visitation of Jesus Christ to the people of the Americas after His resurrection. He teaches them and establishes His gospel among them. I love this book and know it to be true. Just wanted to share it with all of you.

    • Dee

I love books! My kids are also avid readers. Among our favorites are the Laura Ingalls Series.

    • I love Usborne books! They have great board books. My favorite book is “Shell Seekers” by Rosamunde Pilcher.

    • Margar

It’s hard to pick a favorite for me, so I will say that my favorite Usborne book is _The Usborne Little Book Of Nursery Rhymes_. It’s miniature, which means it fits into my smallest purse, and it has kept my son busy for hours during the many plane trips we have taken to visit relatives. I used to bring along too many books to entertain him, which didn’t make my light-traveling husband too happy. Now I only bring this one!

    • Alison

I barely have time to read anymore, but I just finished The Shack and thought it had great insight into how we have been trained to view God. Though I didn’t fully agree with all the theology, it was a great eye-opener.

    • My favorite book is Anne of Green Gables.

    • Sherry

A favorite book is difficult to pick because we really, really enjoy reading! One book that came to mind is a book my son and I use to read when he was little, titled ” I’ll like you for always,I’ll love you forever.” That was about 13 years ago, and we both still read everyday!
There are so many good books available, but it gets difficult to find good books for the later teenage years, for the guys.
