Does Bi-lo give overage? McCormick Grill Mates Blends or Seasoning Mixes .7-3.4 oz. – $1.49
-.50/1 McCormick Grill Mates Blend, Marinade or Spice Rub, RP 4/19 & 5/3 (makes it FREE) There would be .25 overage on each coupon, wouldn’t there?

    • Holly

The Texas Pete hot sauce ($1.49/B1G1) coupon says that it is “not subject to doubling”. So wouldn’t that make it $0.35/each?

      • Jenny

With the Texas Pete sauce does the coupon start with a 5? That is what the computer is looking for to decide whether to double it or not.

    • jamie

My Bi-Lo does NOT ever give overage, either one in my town. But I also had a question, the Ritz Baked Chips at my Bi-Lo were $3.29 each, not $2.29. Did they overcharge me, or is your Bi-Lo just way more awesome?

    • Jaclyn

The French’s mustard coupon says one per household but I was able to print 2 using my same information. (I didn’t see the 1 per household until after I printed them.) Why would I be able to print 2 but not be able to use them both?

    • The signs in Rock Hill, SC said $3.29 so have to say $3.29 BOGOFree. I did $100 plus and paid about $30+…is should have been better, but had to get a few things that didn’t have Q’s with them…I used all my MOORES coupons that I have been holding onto for about 7 weeks..Oh yeah about the overage I understood that BILO simply adjusts to fit the price, but I know that isn’t true because my order was one price and then I added gum (trident) and Mentos and it went down instead of up after the additions….Life is good. Then I went by FL and picked up the Free A1 with the $2 coupon..I did it once yesterday and then again today.

    • Kendra Steveson

The texas pete hot sauce would not be free, as the coupon states that it is not subject to doubling. It would still be cheap though.

    • Laney

So if Bilo doesn’t give u overages this deal wouldn’t work unless u buy 2 & then it would cost $0.49/2. Is that corret?

Kraft BBQ Sauce 14-18 oz. $1.49
-.75/1 Kraft BBQ Sauce, Any 18 Oz.
      -$1 off Kraft BBQ Sauce

    • It would work, it would be FREE no overage…right? Let’s see the 1.49-.75-.75 = Free the $1 off BBQ = .49 Question…why the two?

    • Laney

Travise~ the .75 would make it -0.01 over and if they don’t give u overage you will need to buy 2 using $1 off coupon because they should ring up @ .74 & .75 ea. I could just be over thinking it but this samething happened to me a few weeks ago with free butter. I ended up paying.

    • Be sure and print off http://www.friendsofelsie.com print two .55cents off the new Borden sliced cheese..tastes great and BORDEN is 100% American Farm family owned.

Laney- try buying something else with it and or it may go towards the taxes on the product!! Go to self check out and watch it to see what happens. No matter how many groceries or coupons I have I go to self check so I can watch each and every item without HOLDING anyone up…here in Rock Hill, SC they allow that many places will not allow it.

    • Watching the news and just heard…TARGET will match prices..is that correct???? I know this isn’t a TARGET link, but heard the teaser and waiting for the rest of the story.

    • Denver, Orlando, one more missed the other CITY..not here though!!

    • Sharon

I’m sure I’ve gotten overage automatically at Bi-lo…

If the Kraft BBQ sauce price is $1.49 and it’s on sale B1G1free.. (or .75 a piece) sauce- and you use a $1 off coupon for each, that should give .25 overage per sauce, right?

    • Sharon

and actually, it should be the same story for the Kraft Mayo, miracle whip and others..

    • Laney! Never fear, they will take both coupons, but they’ll just adjust the second one down to the amount left over from the first one. So today, I used 2 $1 off coupons for 2 Kraft dressings, + $1/2 coupon from Target. Since only $0.82 was left on my total after the first 2 coupons, the cashier changed the value of the Target coupon to $0.82.

    • cortney

Jaclyn….I used 2 coupons on the French’s mustard….I didn’t realize it said only 1 per household. It worked, so I guess you can!

    • Will you still be posting BiLo deals even though Melanie’s no longer compiling them? I sure hope so! I often get better deals at BiLo than at Publix…

      • Jenny

We will keep posting the deals, it will just be me doing it now :)

    • Here’s another link to a Wisk $1 coupon (bottom left), directly from the Wisk site. You have to fill out a short form, but it’s worth it.

    • Laney

Jamie~ Thank you! I’ll try it and see how it works. I just hate to get there with x amount of $ and then not have enough.

    • terri

I’m noticing a few things listed on here as free that are not actually free. Kraft salad dressing is only free if you have the $1.50 MQ. Kraft BBQ sauce is only free if you have the .75MQ AND your store doubles up to that amount.
Also the Nabisco toasted chips are ringing up @ $1.64, so they are .64c after the $1 MQ.

    • Melanie

Terri – they are BOGO, so the price of one is half of what is listed. So the Kraft dressing is $1.49/2, so $1 coupon would make it free. Same with the BBQ sauce.

    • terri

Melanie, I bought all of these items today and was going off of my receipt. The Kraft dressing is normally $2.97 so I’m guessing someone accidently put the actual 1/2 price on these deals and then deducted the coupons. Not trying to start a argument, just don’t want anyone to go and realize when it’s too late. ;-)

    • Melanie

Terri, Ahh….I see what you are saying. I am looking at the ad and trying to understand the verbiage. It says “Save at least $1.49 on 2”. I will have to watch this one as it rings up when I go this week!

    • Melanie

BTW, I am not the Melanie who compiles this list…just a couponer trying to understand the lingo! :-)

    • Jaclyn

Yeah, the prices aren’t what is in the store. The Kraft dressing rang up $1.41 each, French’s mustard $1.21 each and Kraft mayo is $2.19 each. I went in thinking everything was going to be a lot cheaper than it actually was. I hate the way Bi-lo words the ad. Just say B1G1 at this price!

    • Marlena

I have to agree with Jackie. I too seem to get better deals at Bi-Lo rather than Publix.

I have a question. I went to Bi-Lo tonight and used
      (6) .50 Grill Mate Coupons from RP 4/19 and 5/3
      (5) .50 French’s Mustard Coupons from SS 5/10
      (2) .55 Keebler’s Chips Deluxe (above printable)
      (1) .55 Nature’s Pride coupon from RP 2/22

I used a total of 14 coupons and they only doubled 8. I don’t remember if any of these coupons said “Do not double”, but technically they should have doubled all of them if they did not say this. Does anyone know if any of these coupons said “Do not double?”

I may have been overcharged $6.

    • I had over $45 in coupons today and all doubled up to .99c, did it adjust for the price so no overage? If indeed you think you were overcharged go back…if it is close by and if it isn’t take it when you go back next time. $6 bucks is a lot of money!!!!

    • Marlena

You know, now that you mention it, it may have adjusted due to overage. I will pay more attention next time. I am still learning.

      Thanks Jenny :)

    • trisha

The add for bilo says to save AT LEAST $1.49 on the Kraft B1G1 items…they are not $1.49 though. The Mayo is actually over $4 and the dressing is $2.49. They are still a good deal, but they are def. not free plus overage. FYI to anyone going expecting to get those items for free. :) The BBQ sauce is $1.49…so those were free plus overage!

    • Marlena

By the way, I meant thanks Travise for the advice and thank you Jenny for continuing to post Bi-Lo deals.

    • Mindy

Thanks Jenny and everyone who helps on this site, I have saved so much money! What a great blessing! Anyway, I am still new to all of this and I have a question on the Dixie products. I have two .50/1 and the free napkins coupon. Can I use all of these coupons together? Or do I have to buy extra plates to cover the free napkins coupon? Thank you, I am learning more and more each day.

    • Diane

Just wondering do you guys try to limit the # of coupons you use with each purchase. I have most of the coupons & want/need alot of these items this week. I dont want to be a rude customer…. any suggestions or should i just go for it & use all my coupons for the stuff i need.

    • Leigh Anne

The bilo here in Tn only doubles up to $.60! And they have just started to NOT give overage….I noticed on the Mentos gum at bogof that the $.55 coupon only doubled $.12. At least it was free!
My Kraft dressing rang up $1.41, so I paid $.41 for it. Also, the Nabisco crackers are regular price $3.29, so half is $1.64.
On the Kraft bbq sauce, they did give me the overage when I used the $1.00 off coupon.

    • Trish

Thank you Jenny!! It is unbelievable how much money I am saving. Just got back from Bi-Lo where I spent $5.57 and saved $49.37. ALL of my coupons doubled (up to .60), and I got the overage on the BBQ sauce, Texas Pete and salad dressing. An extra bonus…there were .35 peelies on the BBQ sauce! Oh, and the Mentos gum is bogo, so there was overage on that too!! And, I got 2 coupons for $2 off my next purchase. They almost paid me to take all of those groceries. Jenny, God Bless you for all you do!!!!!

    • M Rose

I LOVE JENNY!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just got back from Bi-Lo!!! 10 bags of groceries for $<20.00!!! I also got a $3.00 coupon printed out for the next trip because I bought 6 BBQ sauces!!!! and a $3.00 off next trip for buying 3 Snuggles!!!! Thanks a million!!!! We might actually be able to afford our vacation this year!!!!

    • Bobbi

My grill mates coupons did not double. They do not say do not double and start with 5. That cost me $2.50. I did get overage on the salad dressing with a $1.50 coupon. I also bought 6 bottles of BBQ sauce using coupons and then got a $3 catalina at check out.

    • Leroy

    • Tabitha

I just printed my (2) French’s coupon and it doesn’t have a barcode or anything. Is everyones like this?

    • terri

I don’t limit my coupons when I go. I grab the deals I want as I see fit. However, Bi-lo only doubles 10 LIKE coupons in one day. So if you have 15 Texas Pete coupons only use 10 one day and go back another day with the other 5. Hope that makes sense and helps.

    • Diane

      Thanks Terri

    • Karla

So I bought 2 Sunday newspapers this past Sunday (5/10)to make sure I had multiple coupons if needed, however, I cannot seem to find the Kraft $1.50 off for the dressing. Is it in the newspaper insert? I’m in Charleston, SC, do inserts vary by city?

    • Stefanie

FYI – The Hefty EZ Foil pan coupons (.50 off one) will not double…begins with a 9.

    • I live in Minthill, NC or some people use the city Charlotte, NC on their mailing. We have a Bloom grocery store which is a spin off of Food Lion.
This weekend TRIPLE COUPONS 15th-17th UP TO .99 AND LIMIT TO TRIPLE 20 PER VISIT

    • Sharlene

How do you actually print the Borden coupon? I “downloaded” it, but the window disappears when I try to print it? Thanks.

    • kim

i bought some of the kraft mayo yesterday and it is 2.36 after bogo price and when you use the 1.00 Q it makes it 1.36 at my store at least.

    • I’m also wondering about the Dixie coupons…can we use both coupons? I thought we couldn’t. I’m happy with .33 plates, but if I can get free napkins too, then hey, I’m all for it.

    • I was wondering about the Borden coupons as well. I have a print screen come up where you can list as many as you want to print???? Why only 2?

    • Stefanie

Yes, you can use the FREE napkin coupon with the others b/c you are still buying the items to get the free napkins. The FREE napkin Q isn’t taking any money off of the plates (so you aren’t using 2 Q’s for one item). Did that make any sense or did I just confuse you more? LOL!

    • Is anyone having trouble down loading the Kraft coupons? My computer comes up with a warning and says that there is a possible virus. I can’t install the coupon printer. Any ideas or help??

    • Is anyone having trouble down loading the Kraft coupons? My computer comes up with a warning and says that there is a possible virus. I can’t install the coupon printer. Any ideas or help??

    • Juliett

I had a $1 off coupon for Borden Taste Sensations sliced cheese makes it .66 each!! I’m new to this and quite proud of myself;-)

    • Juliett

got in all you mag. btw

    • Dianna

Just FYI… I went to bilo this am. I gave my bi-lo card 1st before coupons. When the cashier was scanning the coupons it was kicking alot of them out & beeping. She called the MGR & he said some of the coupons are more than the purchase price for some of the items ex: Kraft salad dsg 1.50 off 1 after the bonus card was scanned it was $1.41 each. so it was not accepting it. He had to adjust it to work after a LONG..LONG discussion & me NOT giving up. Same with the BBQ sauce ends up being .74 with the BOGO but coupons were for .75.
He said we arent going to pay you..I then stated I am not asking you to pay me I am just asking you to allow me to use my coupon for the product I am purchasing… anyway. It was a good trip although I had a debate session in the line. Total was $157.96.. Total paid $31.39!!! To make it even better I got 2 $3.00 off next purchase somehow. I must say it is worth the effort to clip coupons.
Thank you to all who let us know about the deals!

    • jen

the ritz coupons are beeping when you checkout also the snuggles if you buy 10.00 or more will give you back 3.00 i purchsed4 snuggles and paid 1.00 for each and received a coupon for 3.00 off next trip.also the prices i am finding are different at each bilo!!

    • Jennifer C.

I went to BiLo this morning and was given kind of a hard time. They would not give me overage which was fine. The manager had to override the register to get it to take the coupon because of the overage. They did match the price so that the product was free. Then I had the vitamin water coupons (still on sale 10/$10) that I printed off the website. They let me use them this time but told me they wouldn’t take them again because they said “Ralph’s” on them. The manager had kind of an attitude about the whole thing. I saved alot but let feeling a little defeated.

    • Susie

FYI apple and eve juices are 3 packages (8 juice boxes) for $5 at my local publix (advantage buy). if you go to http://www.appleandeve.com there is a $1 off 2 packages printable coupon. this makes them $1.16 for a pack of 8 healthy juice boxes. hope this helps other picky moms get a good deal on juice for their children.

    • Susie

sorry, posted that last comment in the worng place…

    • April

ALot of you are saying that some prices are different in some areas and that is based on the area and the local competition.

    • Nicole

Heads up guys. I purchased the kraft bbq sauce here in Florence, SC for .75 a bottle(our regular price is $1.49), well free after the coupon. At the end of my order the machine printed out a coupon for $3 off my next order compliments of kraft. This was the only kraft purchase I made, and I purchased 10 of them, so I don’t know what the minimum amount you must buy is.

    • Brandy

I noticed today too that a lot of my coupons beeped b/c of the overage, but luckily the guy just keyed in all the coupons that did that so I did get the overage. My total was $133 and I paid $30. That’s probably the best I have done at any store and I had several items that I didn’t have coupons for and weren’t on sale.

I was trying to get a raincheck for the mustard and the texas pete since my store was out of it and the manager said that they are both on sale until May 26th. I’ll probably go back to Bi-Lo for something before next Tuesday, so I’ll probably still get my raincheck if they are still out, just in case.

I also noticed that the prices were different. The Kraft Salad Dressing was 2.82 BIGI, making them 1.41 each (still got overage on 5 of them since I had 5 – 1.50 off coupons), and the Kraft mayo and miracle whip were both like $4 and then b1G1. We don’t use that, but I would have gotted it to donate if it would have been free plus overage. I have taken bags of stuff that i have gotten free plus overage to our local food banks and they are always happy to get it.

    • Jen

Nicole, for the Kraft BBQ, if you buy 6, you get $3 oyno (I think 4 is the min – get back $2, 5 – get back $2.50). Also, if you buy 6 Mac and Cheese (I think it only works for the boxes – on sale for $0.50) you get $2 oyno. I know if you buy 5, you get back $1.50, since I was getting 6 but the cashier accidentaly only rang up 5. Worked great for me tonight. I bought 18 Kraft BBQ, 12 Mac and Cheese, and 6 Jolly Time popcorn for “fillers.” I broke it up as follows:

1st order: 6 Kraft BBQ, 3 Ritz Chips (3.29 bogo at my store)
coupons: 5 $1 off BBQ, one 0.75 off BBQ, 3 $1 off Ritz Chips
Total due: 0.72! and I got back $3 oyno

2nd order: 6 Kraft BBQ, 6 Mac and Cheese, 3 Jolly Time
coupons: 6 0.35 off BBQ (peelies everywhere!), 1 buy 3 get one free Mac and Cheese, 2 $1 Jolly Time, 1 0.50 off Jolly Time
Total due: 3.86, used $3 from 1st order and 0.86! Got back $3 OYNO and $2 OYNO

3rd order: same as 2nd order (sightly different coupons, same idea)

Left with $7 worth off my next order! Woohoo!

P.S. No, I will not use all the BBQ, I already donated some to a Women’s Shelter in town!

    • Wanted to let you know that the Kraft BBQ sauce has .35/1 coupons which double and makes them 5 cents each (if you don’t have $1/1 coupons) Buy 6 and get $3 off next grocery purchase.

    • Sharon

JEN, Wow, that is GREAT!!!! congrats will have to try that one

    • TM

I went in for a huge trip the other afternoon, over 70 coupons in hand. After all the items were scanned, I gave the coupons and then my card. The total price went up and down on the screen for a little bit (I guess adjusting for the coupons). When I got home, I realized that in all my excitement at the store and using my coupons, that over 30 coupons that should have doubled DID NOT DOUBLE. Did I do something wrong in the order I gave my coupons and card??? I have already called the store twice and voiced my complaint, even telling them exactly EVERY coupon I used and the amount (I had it all typed out for my “grand plan” and took it to the store with me :) Anybody have any idea what happened here??? Was this my fault?? I certainly don’t need 4 things of mustard if they weren’t going to double my coupon. Anybody????

    • Adele

This is a numbers question: On the 1 buy 3 get one free Mac and Cheese coupon. Does does that mean one of the 3 is free of the 4th one is free? Make sense? Thank you!

    • Jen

The fourth one is free (It would have been nice to be able to use two coupons when buying six, but won’t work). Here is the link for the Q:

    • Dianna

I was told by someone in a previous post that they will only double 10 coupons in one transaction. This may be the case with you. Check with your store & see if they have a limit on the # of coupons that they double in 1 transaction.

    • Karsten

I went to Bi-Lo yesterday and wasn’t planning on getting the B1G1 pickles because I didn’t have a coupon for them. Low and behold, there was a blinkie for .50 off, so make sure to check your store. BTW, thanks Jenny for your sight! I was able to save 72% off my order!

    • Leroy

TM – I had a similiar issue and called the corp office after discussing it with the manager. Corp is supposed to be getting back to me.

Dianna – You can only double 10 of the same coupon per transaction.

    • Leroy

So after talking to Corp about my coupons not doubling (mentos gum) I decided a little payback was in order so I went to the store and bought 8 sets of 6 BBQ sauce for .26 a set. Total was 2.08 including tax and they gave me $24 oyno which I then used to buy $24.57 worth of steaks and paid $0.57. Would have been cheaper for them if they would have just doubled my coupons like I asked. Revenge is oh so sweet, lol. Anyone need BBQ Sauce?

    • I was planning to do my BiLo shopping Sunday, but I had to stop by last night for one thing, and decided to go ahead and pick up some of the free or almost free stuff. Here’s my haul:

      5 French’s mustards
      4 Texas Pete hot sauces
      9 McCormick Grill Seasonings
      1 Lawry’s Seasoned Salt
      9 Mentos gums
      4 Dixie paper plates
4 pack of Green Tomatoes (the reason for the stop)
      $1 donation to charity

I paid $9.27 for all of it, and $3.99 of that was the tomatoes alone! When I go back I’ll get the rest on my plan, but this was just plain awesome. I had no problems with coupons doubling, except the Dixie plates, and I didn’t notice until I got home. The manager had to override those coupons for some reason. And I did have overage on the hot sauce and the gum, so I’m happy with it, all in all.

    • A

I am also in Charleston, SC and yes the coupons can change by city. Coupons in the Columbia paper often differ, even the amount of the same coupon can differ.

    • Brian

I love your comments!!! My mentos did not double as well and I only used 10 of them on 10 mentos. How did you get the $24?

    • joney

Do I need to give Bilo my coupons first and then my Bilo Card???

    • Brian

I always give my coupons first to insure that they all go through, then I give my bonuscard just before I pay. Sometimes when I gave my bonuscard first I had issues with my coupons going through correctly.

    • Amanda

Thanks Jenny for your site it has helped me out so much. I went to bilo yesterday & bought:

      2 mt olive sweet relish
      2 kraft salad dressings
      2 keebler chips deluxe cookies
      2 nabisco toasted chips
      2 wisk detergent
      10 mentos gum

      I paid $9.44

I am still new to couponing so if anyone has any tips it would be greatly appreciated.

    • Marlena

I bought 6 BBQs and did not get $3 off my next visit. Is this at certain stores only?

    • Jennifer H.

Marleana, you have to be careful and keep a close eye on the transaction. I had that happen last week when I was at Bi-Lo on the buy 4 General Mills products, get $4. They did not give it then either. You should call the store.

    • Amy

Quick question….The Oscar Mayer Sandwich meat is 2/6.00. I have a coupon for $1.00 off two and a coupon for $0.75 cents off of 1. If I buy 2 can I use both coupons??

    • Amy

      Thank you :
      May 14th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
After your experience .. I handed my q’s first THEN my bonus card. Everything doubled except the .35 peelies on BBQ sauce.

      Thank you:
      May 14th, 2009 at 7:44 pm
Not sure if 8 products or 10 Kraft products qualify … but I bought 7 Kraft BBQ, 2 Kraft dressings, 1 Miracle Whip and got the $3 OYNO!

So I saved 83%!! Love you guys .. and thanks for sharing your tips and great finds!! :)

    • Amy, no you can not use both try to avoid $__/2 when possible so it may save more to use the one at .75×2 vs $1/2 see the difference.

    • I just got the deal of the day. Bilo has the Glade plug in fans on sale for $6 (reg $8.99). I used the $4 coupon that was in last Sunday’s paper and luckily there was a $4 coupon on the box. So I got the plug in fan for FREE PLUS $2 OVERAGE!!! I ended up with 6 of them so I had an extra $12 I spent on other things I did not have a coupon for.

    • Mina

My routine weekly Bi-Lo shopping stops tend to take between an hour and a half to over two hours. That’s wearing. I decided to make shorter stops this week and just pick up specific things each time. Thus making several quick, and supposedly easy, stops when passing a Bi-Lo on other trips.

Today was an unplanned learning experience. I found that even in the same area different stores can have registers programmed to deal with coupons differently. Today’s shopping helped me to understand why sometimes it can SEEM like Q’s didn’t double correctly, when the transaction actually did go right according to that store’s policy and register programming.

Here are some different ways that Q’s which would have given overage were dealt with. At one store, I had 3 bonus coupons ring up at $.03. That makes some sense. Instead of doubling them, it brought the amount up to the price of each single item. The $.35 off peelies on the barbecue sauce are DND 5’s. Stores shouldn’t be expected to double them. Some don’t. It’s just a nice bonus when they do. The other way that q’s which would have caused overage on items, though not overage on the final total, were treated was by honoring those q’s at face value only. That meant no doubling of Mentos q’s in those stores.

I did some really early morning shopping right after stores opened today because I needed to stop at Kroger and Food Lion to pick up more q’s from specific blinkie machines. The new blinkie cycle was about to start and I didn’t want to run out of the ones that I know I use. So, I stopped at my regular Bi-Lo afterwards. I couldn’t find any Mac and Cheese on the shelf. After I checked out, I asked the manager if there was any in stock. Sure enough, there was an end-aisle display that I hadn’t seen. He brought me 6 boxes. On the way out, I decided that I should buy another 6 because we use them 4 at a time.

I made a short stop at another when I went downtown this afternoon. I split my order into two. Then the lady behind me asked to use my card because she had left hers behind. I realized as I was leaving that the Mentos hadn’t doubled and stopped at customer service so they could help me understand why. They were friendly and helpful. My card wound up being swiped several times while she tested various entries to see if they doubled and eventually came to a solution. What she came up with made sense at the time, but after thinking about it tonight, I think she overcalculated the amount to return to me.

This evening I made another supposedly quick stop at the other end of my town, since the store was right there. Normally, I avoid shopping from Friday evening through late Saturday because those are busy shopping hours. It was a crazy checkout. On the first transaction, the register refused my card. The reason given? I’d been shopping too much! I’m talking about my Bi-Lo card, not a credit or debit card. It took a manager to override. This was for a $1.22 purchase. I’d spent less than $20 all day, but the pattern was different than my usual one and my card # had been entered the 5 times for my own purchases and several other times in the course of the day.

When the cashier called him for an override on the second transaction, he explained how to do it with just info that I could provide to show that I was the card owner. The final transaction should have gone smoothly. Hahaha! No! The cashier scanned my card. Then I paid exact change for what I owed. When she entered that & went to put it in the drawer we were both startled. The register said that IT owed ME a few dollars.

She handed me back my money. I asked her to cancel and return the $3 OYNO cat that I’d given her, and go from there. I paid my 50 cents, and was finally finished. I felt bad for the cashier and the poor people who had gotten in line behind me because I had so few items in my cart. I thanked the cashier for her patience and good attitude, and apologized to those behind me. The cashier said, “I was actually having fun! I learned a lot about coupons.” The customers behind me were laughing and cheered me for my shopping trip, and threatened to come to my house for dinner. I left the store, pleased and smiling. At least I hadn’t purchased any ice cream on this trip!

Unexpected glitches do tend to pop up at checkouts, and they are more frequent when coupons are being used, because there are more variables involved. The attitudes of both the cashier and the customer together really make a difference, not just to them, but to other customers. That trip wound up being fun and educational when it could so easily have been aggravating and frustrating.

    • OK I read that book…above LOL and have one question!!! How big is your family that you use 4 mac and cheese at a time? We don’t do box mac so I thought I would ask. When I get it free I usually donate it because we do scratch macaroni.., but I gotta know how many 4 will feed!! Have a great weekend off to the hair salon.

    • tammy

when is gain coupon coming out they need to put it on here

    • Amanda

Are you saying you used 2 coupons per item on the Glade? If so, I’m surprised they let that go through — 1 coupon per item. Even if there are “peelies” on the box, you can still just use 1 coupon per item. They are both manufacturer’s coupons. Unless of course they were those store “mark down” coupons, then that’s a different story altogether.

    • Amanda- I asked and they told me I could use both. I thought the same thing you did. I am hearing all of these horrow stories about Bilo and I will say that the one I deal with in Columbia SC is awesome! If you have them, it is worth a shot……all they can say is no!

    • Kay

Does anyone know if Bi-Lo accepts coupons the day after they expire? I recall reading in someone’s previous post that their Bi-Lo does but I wanted to check to make sure.

    • Adele

It is printed somewhere what the Kraft deal is (like the Unilever deal was in the add). How many or how much you need to spend to get the OYNO $$’s?

Also, what do you tell the cashier when they ask for you Bi-lo card and you want to wait until after coupons?

    • Adele

Also, is anyone else having a hard time printing the Suggle coupons? I check to print it and then click print and nothing happens.

    • Mina

Travise – I have 8 teens and college students here now, plus a couple of wee grandkids who stay here on and off. I get what I can to send home with them because their mom has a difficult time getting out of the house right now. Of course, there’s also my hubby and me to feed. So, I’m trying to feed 12 to 14 people on any given day.

The “kids” don’t make mac & cheese straight from the box, either. They use half the cheese packets and then dump in a pile of fresh cheese. I THOUGHT I had a several month stock of cheese that I’d gotten when the prices were great. Nope. They’ve been devouring over 5 lbs/wk. It’s “normal” for me to see two gallons of milk, a couple loaves of bread, two bottles of juice, more than a 12 pack of soda, two pounds of deli lunch meat, and two boxes of cereal VANISH in a day, along with more than 2 mega rolls of TP. I think high school and college kids tend to eat 5 meals a day, not 3.

It’s very difficult to stockpile enough of most items to get a 3 month supply, let alone a 6 month one.

    • Mina

Stacy, I’ve never had a bad experience with the staff of any Bi-Lo in Columbia. Overall, the Bi-Lo stores are here beat the Publix stores hands down when it comes to being customer friendly. Most of the Publix employees are friendly, too. It’s just a few that give the impression that they feel that customers are adversaries. I am just as polite to them as I am to everyone else, figuring their attitude probably gets enough reinforcement just because authoritarian attitudes make others more argumentative.

Customers always remember and share the bad experiences with anyone who will listen. Good experiences aren’t shared nearly as often. There is a saying that each negative customer experience affects a company as much as 100 good ones. I try to look at it the other way, and be one of the 100 good experiences with shoppers to make up for each confrontational or sleezy shopper that the staff gets.

    • Mina

Adele, there are two separate Kraft catalina deals going on right now – The Kraft bbq sauce that is on BOGO sale, and the mac & cheese that is on sale 2/$1. Jen gave a good description of how they work in post #63. The mac & cheese catalina promo will run until the end of the month. The description prints out on the coupon that prints out after your receipt.

The bbq deal may only run this week since the catalina only says Thank You from Kraft, and doesn’t list dates.

    • Amanda

That is interesting that they let it go through, but, even so, I don’t think I would be comfortable doing that. I’ve been couponing for many years, and most Qs I’ve seen say something to the effect of “1 coupon per item purchased”, so that’s what I go by. For example, when they had the deal on the Hefty bags the cashier tried to peel off the .20 peelies and use them in addition to the .55 Qs I had, but I stopped her……16 cents per box was good enough for me. LOL Overages are great – love ’em, but I’m a stickler for trying to play by the rules. Please don’t take offense – we all have our comfort levels and that’s just outside of mine. I know some of these rules may be somewhat subjective — curious to hear what the resident expert (ummm, Jenny, that’s you LOL) thinks on that one.

    • Tracie in SC

Where is the chocolate chip coupons? I cant find them. Thanks!

    • Debbie

      Hi Everyone,
Both of the Bilo’s that I shop at do give the overage. I bought two of the kraft salad dressings and the barbeque sauce yesterday. The salad dressings rang up at 1.47 each, and I had the 1.50 coupons, the coupons deducted at 1.50 each. the Barbeque sauces rang up at 1.48 for the two, and I had 2 1.00 each coupons, they both deducted at 1.00.

    • TERESA

is there any way to know what that catalina machine at Bi-lo is gonna spit out? We seem to have access to CVS and Walgreens.

    • Michele

Just a reminder that Bilo’s Get $5 off your next shopping trip wyb $20 on P&G products runs until the 19th. With the P&G book out in today’s paper I will be going to get one more $5 off coupon! Hope this helps others!

    • Teresa if you go to http://www.afullcup.com you can look up Catalina Q’s

    • Mina

I had to stand and wait quite awhile at Customer Service this morning (at a Columbia Bi-Lo) while the CS employee went to assist a cashier with a customer who tried to pull that double man. q bit on the Glade fans. I noticed that the lady decided she really didn’t need it if she actually had to pay something, which gave me a silent chuckle. The excess # of q’s the woman tried to pass off caused her entire stack to be examined, and she doubled other q’s along w/including expired ones.

At first, I felt a little bad for the lady because she may have tried that only because she had read here or elsewhere that it was okay. However, my thinking goes that if a person has a large order that has been closely matched to a large stack of q’s and sales, they aren’t brand new. They’ve been reading and following forums and blogs, put planning into the trip, and have had plenty of opportunity to know the difference between a legitimate purchase and a shady one.

I can understand how a person would willing go along with a cashier using a peelie along with another manufacturer coupon. It seems like it’s in his own best interest, but it’s not. Not all cashiers even realize that they are not supposed to be used together. They are trained more along the lines of how to use the register than the nitty-gritty of coupon use and redemption policies.

If someone passes you a box of chocolates and lets you choose one, they are not offering you the entire box. If either coupon states anything to the effect of, “Only one coupon per purchase on product specified,” then the manufacturing is offering to allow you to use one, and no more than one, of their coupons toward the payment on your purchase. The merchant is not permitted to submit more than one coupon per for reimbursement. Coupons are a form of payment. Their legitimate use is not governed by what can go through without a beep, but by the actual wording on the coupon. When we use them we are entering into an agreement between us, the manufacturer who is promising to take the responsibility of that portion of payment, and the merchant who is accepting them in lieu of cash from our pockets.

I really don’t mean to sound like I’m on a soapbox. What I’m hoping is that people realize that just because they hear that something CAN be done, doesn’t mean that it’s alright to do. The chances are that if you get into couponing, you’re going to wind up being familiar in the stores you frequent. You’ll be having more contact with Customer Service and they will recognize you. I think most people would rather be known as one of those friendly customers who do a bang up job of getting great deals (and increasing store sales) than one of those that can’t be trusted. A good reputation takes time to build, but an unpleasant one can be earned quickly. I know that I’d rather the supervisor smile and ask to see how well I did today than stand there in distrust while I checked out.

    • terri

When people improperly use coupons (like double dipping on the manufacturer coupons) it not only hurts the store, in the end it hurts the shoppers with higher prices. And when the store catches on to things like this, heck they may just do away with coupon usage. You just never know.

    • Amanda

Just wanted to say that you put that very well, and ITA. The stores I shop at regularly know me and know that I’m going to have a stack of coupons when I get to the register — and sometimes a raincheck or two as well. While my orders take a bit longer than their
“average” customer’s, they also know that they don’t have to worry about coupon fraud with me. The trust that I’ve built with these businesses/employees over time certainly makes my “couponing life” easier and I’m not willing to jeopardize that. I firmly believe that, in the long-run, taking advantage of a deal that is not completely legit will end up coming back and biting you in the you-know-what…..that’s coupon karma. ;-)

    • Jennifer

How do I call catalina? I had one that didn’t print. It’s ok I just want to contact them. Maybe they can send it to me?

      Thank you!

      • Jenny

The number is 1-888-8-COUPON. They will want a few numbers off your receipt and then they will mail you the coupon that should have printed.

    • Jenna

Mina–I live in Columbia too. I’ve found the cashiers and managers at Bilo to be rude, unprofessional, and generally unhelpful. It’s become so bad I don’t shop there anymore. Publix however excels at customer service and it’s always a pleasant experience to shop there. There’s always a manager nearby to answer questions about coupons and they always answer the questions in favor of using the coupons.

    • amanda N

I love my Bi lo in Franklin NC they are so friendly and they never give me a hard time about all my coupons.

    • Jennifer

Thank you! So glad I found that receipt! I thought I lost it. :-)

    • Are there any good deal for today and tomorrow from the new 5/17 coupons?

    • Jennifer

My BiLo ALWAYS asks for my bilo card BEFORE they run my coupons through. I give them my coupons as soon as they have rung all of the food up (I even tried handing them one at a time as the item was scanned) and the cashier will take them, set them aside and then ask for my bonuscard. I have to get it out of my purse and in the meantime, they just wait – not scanning any of the coupons. I haven’t wanted to say ‘Yes, I have my bonuscard but will you please ring my coupons first’ because I don’t have a logical response if they ask ‘Why?’. Could a veteran ‘coupons first / bonuscard second’ person please suggest how I handle this? Should I stop by CS and ask them if I can scan things in that order?

    • Stefanie

Thank you so much for posting the info on how to contact about catalinas that don’t print. I had 2 not print today b/c the machine has been acting funny all week…didn’t know that. The C/S gave me two rainchecks for $3 off each…but I have a feeling that I am just going to run into a BIG hassle when I try to redeem them. Instead of attempting to use them, I’ll give that number a call. Good thing I always hold onto my receipts! :)

    • Today was a busy day but I managed to sneak in some shopping. Went to Bi-Lo and bought the following:
      9 Mentos Gum
      4 X-14 Mildew Remover
      6 X-14 Shower Cleaner
      10 20ct Dixie Plates
      5 160ct Dixie Napkins
      1 Gallon Milk

      Total Before Coupons…$91.52
      Total Savings……………..$92.43
Total Before Tax…………….-.91 thats negative .91,lol.
      Total After Tax…………….$2.39

    • Terri

    • TM

I’m posting this because I’m so proud of myself and also because Leroy (who is also my co-worker and our work coupon club expert) really helped me out today!
I knew it was the last day for the ad, so I went in and actually got the best deal I’ve had yet because the shelves had been restocked!
      I bought…
      2 packages of Keebler cookies
2 pks of nabisco baked crisps
      2 hunt’s ketchup
      3 mustards
      1 jolly time popcorn
      6 bar-b-que sauces
      2 grill mates seasonings

The total was somewhere around $38-$40. After coupons and bonus card, I paid $4.31 and received a $3 coupon off the next purchase. So, I paid $1.31 for all of that!!
To get the overages, I used Leroy’s plan of attack:
      1. I made sure to give the cashier the “overage items” in my cart last.
      2. Then I gave the coupons.
      3. Then I gave my bonus card. When she asked for it at the beginning, I simply said, “I’ll give it to you at the end (with a smile).”
An older gentleman in line marveled at my final price going down each time she scanned a coupon and commented what a good shopper I was. Little did he (or the cashier) expect what happened next. When she scanned the bonus card, ALL of my coupons doubled (and I got the overages) and I had a total of $4.31. Then I said, “I think I’m getting a $3 off coupon” and of course, it printed. Their jaws dropped, and I grinned from ear to ear!
Not only did I make $0.75 on 3 of my sauces because of overages, I also made another $3 because I bought 6 of them. I love the fact that I got them free and they even paid me $3.75 to take them out of the store :0 My hubby wasn’t excited to see even more bbque sauce come through the door, though!
I am beyond hooked with this couponing!
I’ll see you on the 21st, Jenny!

    • just a coupon friend

    • Angela W

I just had my first negative Bi-Lo experience the other day in Columbia. When I handed over my 50 cents off Vitamin water Q’s with the Ralph’s name on the, the cashier immediately said in a rude tone….”You can’t use these here!”
Now, I’ve been using 10 a week over the last 6 weeks or so! At that location, as well as another location in town.
I had her take the Vitamin water off, and spoke to the manager on the way out. My issue was NOT that they wouldn’t take the Q, but how she handled the situation.

Why would you wantto hold the bonus card til the end? I thought that swiping the bonus card caused the Q’s to double?

    • just a coupon friend

The coupons will double up to .55 cent of value,if the coupon said’s in small writting face value is .50cent then it will not double. You have to read the coupons. You should be able to use your bonus card when ever you like to b/f or after.Bi-lo has a right to turn down a coupon at any time. The coupon’s are great and i use them also!

Concerning getting paid to take the sauce out of the store – I had 75 cents deducted from the final total because of “overage”. The $3 coupon I got at the end was received by buying a certain number of sauces, so that is my $3.75 I referred to.
When Bi-Lo accepts my $1.00 off coupon, don’t they get reimbursed for that $1 plus some change for handling/postage? If they only deduct $0.75 from my total because that is how much the sauce costs, aren’t they then making $0.25 they didn’t deduct from my total? Considering my trip to Bi-Lo last week resulted in over $30 not deducted from my bill because the register didn’t double a bunch of my coupons (and the manager won’t return my calls), I don’t feel that I misused the coupon for overage. They deducted the $1 from my total and they will get reimbursed $1+. I’m really not trying to sound belligerent, but when you get a RR @ Walgreen’s equal to the item cost and also use a coupon, you ARE getting paid to take the item out of the store.

    • This is not exactly on the subject here, but my husband done the grocery shopping for me the other day and they actually wouldn’t let him use the coupons to get items for free, they said that it is coupon fraud to use coupons to get free items, anyone else had this problem before? I am new here and didn’t know where else to post this.
