My favorite printer ever is on sale at Staples right now for a price lower than we’ve seen in ages!  This little guy (it’s a member of my family) can print over 5000 pages before needing more toner!  That’s a ton of coupons.  Grab it today for $49.98.

To get the best deal:

  1. Register or Login with Ebates or Shop at Home (you’ll get 2-3% cashback)
  2. Find Staples in the list of stores, click on it.
  3. Search on the Staples site for “Brother 2140”
  4. Add it to your cart.
  5. You’ll also get FREE shipping

Don’t want to do Ebates?  You can get there directly here (but you are passing up $5.99 in cash back for new users).

(thanks For The Momma’s!)

    • DOFNM

This is a very good deal as well: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003G2OVCC/ref=oss_product at $49.99. You have to pay for shipping but the reviews are very good at PC Magazine, etc. It’s smaller than the one above which was a priority for me. I have a tight space I’m working with.

    • Alice

30.00 bucks on Newegg.com and only 1.99 shipping so better place to get the toner. I get all my inks and toners there. They have fast shipping and I’ve never had any issues with their products. I’m buying this printer just for coupons. My wireless epison is awesome but going to be way cheaper to use this printer for the basic stuff and keep my Epison for my husbands photography and projects.

    • Valmartin

Give me the low down on why this is your favorite? I'm thinking that this would be good to just print coupons on…does it do color or is it just black and white? I have an hp with all of the bells and whistles that is hooked up to one computer, but I need to replace one at another desktop, so this might be a good option.

      • No bells or whistles here. Just black and White ink but it keeps on going with little to no need to mess with it except new toner maybe every year and half. We have two and have never needed new toner in over a year of owning it!!

        • Lindaanglin2

Jenny, do you ever have any problems with the printable Qs being in black and white? I had one store refuse to take my B&W Q b/c they said they could not tell if it was a photocopy. Of course, it wasn't, but I sort of understood their concern – how do they tell…I would love to order this and save on my ink costs but I worry about that one thing.

          • Shopperkat

Same thing happened to me…so now I only print in color. When cashiers have to question a coupon…it puts them…and me…in an awkward position; so I stopped printing in B/W.

            • Kristin

I just want to point out that I really don't understand this argument. They make color copiers as well as black and white. In reality, having a coupon in color does not give it legitimacy. If using multiples, point out the different numbered bar codes.

            • Leigh

Awesome deal ladies. I'm glad I got it. Going to use it to print my coupons! Thanks for the heads up!

            • I'd point out the fact that many coupons say “valid in Black and White” right on them…

            • I'd also like to point out, that I don't really see the logic in some cashiers saying that because I can easily stick color coupons on my scanner and copy them in color m(if I wanted to, which I don't), it's not like there are only black and white copiers…

          • It's all I use for coupons, so I've gotten to were seeing a color printed coupon just looks strange. I don't have any issues, but most of my cashiers know who I am so I can't say that you won't. Many printable coupons do state “Valid in Black & White” you can always try pointing that out.

          • Atraxler

Yeah that doesn't make any sense, since my printer/copier copies in color just as well as black and white.

            • Lindaanglin2

I know, it was strange to me too but on my color printed Qs it is much more obvious they are originals from the heavy color ink and they way they feel. I ordered the new printer b/c I am more concerned with cost than anything and if it becomes a big problem I'll just have to find some way to switch back and forth for regular printing and coupon printing, lol. I think it will be fine though since my other B&W coupon was questioned at a store where I rarely shop anyway :) Thanks for all the input, everyone!

    • Stephany

I am really looking to replace my printer, main reason is I have got to get one with cheaper ink. How much is the ink for this thing & how long does it last for you? Thanks!!

      • Angie

        Hi Stephany!
This printer doesn’t use ink. The toner cartridge for it is $50, but between posts and friends, I’ve learned toner cartridges for laser printers last much longer than ink cartridges…hope this helps :0
I went ahead and bought one…oh and I also learned that when it tells you toner is low, put a piece of black tape over the little window on the cartridge..Read something today about that..Check reviews on it on staples.com :)

        • Stephany

Thanks!! From all the other comments on here it sounds like the toner lasts forever, I hope so for $50. I am just sick & tired of buying ink so often.

    • Christina

Jenny-I was just reading the reviews for the printer on Staples website and they aren't very good…a lot of complaints about paper jams, too much toner being used each time and the cartridges not lasting long at all…have you not had those problems and do you still recommend it?? We currently don't have a printer and I need to get one asap. Thanks!!

      • Debsbargainbonanza

We have the wireless version of this printer and love it! One thing I found is that when the toner says it's out, many times it's really not. Found a tip on the internet that if you take a small piece of black electrical tape and cover the sensor hole on the non-gear side of the cartridge, you can trick the printer into thinking there's still toner and just print till there's really no toner left and the pages fade. Did this about 2 months ago with a cartridge that the printer said was out, and still printing strong!!

        • DebKO

Staples also has the wireless network ready version (Brother HL-2170W Laser Printer) for $99.99. Is that a fair price?

          • Debsbargainbonanza

We paid $89 for the HL-2170W from Amazon.com a while back.

          • That's the one I have and I LOVE it. I bought it with all the MIR I have received this year. This way I can print no matter where I am in the house!

        • Jtorr14

what is the model # and did you pay a lot more for the wireless version? I like the idea of only having to pay $49.98 for a printer that will print thousands of pages before the toner needs replacement, but I currently have a wireless printer that stays hidden in the other room.

        • Kamnsc

We just got the wireless version. My husband (who is a pretty “techy” person) couldn't get it installed and working. He had to call Brother and get help. Amazing all he had to do to set it up. Most of it wasn't in the directions that came with it. Hopefully we'll like it and save money on ink!

      • erins_deals

An average of 4.3 out of 5 stars with 500+ reviews, I would consider that pretty great. Some people will find fault in anything. You have to watch out for the outliers. It could very well be user error. I would feel pretty confident purchasing this product….OH and I just did ;)

      • Theresa

I purchased this back in March. I love this printer. I believe that the first toner may be a “starter” toner with less toner than one you would buy seperately and that may be why it is getting bad reveiws. As I said, I bought this back in March and have not had a problem (not one paper jam) nor have I had to replace the toner that came with the machine. Our inkjet printer was sucking ink and money right out of my wallet. This is definately worth your money.

      • Guest

Don't believe reviews test is your self. I have the print never had problems.

    • Lahibbard

I have bought quite a few of these to be used in an educational setting. They are great! Highly recommended!

    • christin

i also highly recommend this printer. i wish i got it at this price! it's been AWESOME! i feel like i have printed a million coupons and have yet to change the toner!

    • Clark7371

I noticed the toner cartridge is more than the printer!! $51.99

      • GoGreen!!

Check and see if you have a store in your area that refills the cartridge it will save you 40-50% off the retail price!! :)

    • Lori

Stupid question here, but what is the difference between toner and ink? Why does the toner last so much longer. I would love an alternative to purchasing an ink cartridge every month. Thanks in advance for any help. :)

      • Gillian

Inkjet printers apply pressure to the ink to get it to stick to the paper while laser printers use a laser to burn the toner (a fine powder substance) to the paper. I'm not sure why toner lasts longer but according to many reviews, it does!

    • Kam

I'm also curious about the wireless version of this printer. We have a wireless Epson. I have to replace the ink about once a month, and it's about $22 for a cartridge (not refillable). I don't even print that much mainly coupons. It's ridiculous!

      • Katherine

Have you ever tried buying off-brand ink? I have a Canon that uses 5 different ink cartridges. Each was about $10 or so (I think) whenever I had to replace one. 123inkjets.com had a big deal one day with ebates so you got 33% cash back, and the ink is JUST the same. I’ve been very very happy with it. Between the ebates cash back, the lower price to start with, and the recycling rebates at Staples, I ended up spending about $.20 on each cartridge. It’s worth looking into.

    • Larissa

I ordered one! I can't wait to get it. Thanks for the suggestion. I have been needing another printer.

    • Mary_P

How much does the ink/toner cost? Is there a place that re-fills them ?

    • dharvn

      this is a great deal.

a laser printer uses toner and is pretty much the same as a copier, the print quality is sharper and your pages won't run/bleed if they get wet. toner is expensive, but toner replacements last longer so you'll get more prints for your buck.

inkjets, i must say … i hate them. ink cartridges are so expensive, after you buy 2 refills you could've just purchased another printer. not to mention the colors bleed/run at the first hint of water.

      • dharvn

we have HP laser printers, so I'm not familiar with this brand.

        • Guest

This put hP to shame when it come to prices and services

          • dharvn

it probably does. but we have 4 working HP lasers in the house, i don't think hubby's gonna buy another even if it is $50. lol.

i think this will be a great buy for those wanting to break free from inkjet printers.

    • Christy

I just ordered one, but I did not order toner, does it come with on or should I go back and order one? Also I did it through ebates, but that did not show cash back. Does that take some time to process to get the cash back to show in my account?

    • MLamp

I just bought one as well. Thanks for the recommendation, comments from all and the ebates reminder. I NEVER seem to remember that last one.

    • Mamato6chicks

I have had this printer for over 2 years. LOVE it!

    • Mamato6chicks

For the # of copies you get the toner price is well worth it. Plus like someone mentioned the print is better & doesn't bleed. I bought the backpacks last week at Office Max and with the rewards I will get I'm going to buy my toner there. My husband & I priced it and at our store it's actually $5 less than at Staples. I figure it comes out to buying a toner cartridge and getting a Jansport backpack for FREE! Yay!

    • Holly

I just wanted to add that I also have this printer to use for coupons. (Only the wireless version.) My husband is a Sr. Network Admin. and recommends this printer. We have only replaced the toner once since we've had it (almost 2 years), and when we did that we bought a toner refill which is very cheap and my husband refills it himself. I highly recommend it!

      • Sheri

I have a dell laser 1110 and have wondered how difficult it is to refill. I heard that it can be messy and that the toner is dangerous to deal with. (You shouldn't breath the dust.) Can you give me any tips. Thany you.

    • Gillian

Jenny – thanks for sharing such an awesome deal with us! And with a personal recommendation to boot. Just the other day I was complaining to my computer tech husband about how much ink I was going through and the first thing he recommended was a laser printer. After lamenting over the $200+ price tags this deal couldn't come at a better time. Thanks for all you do!

    • Faye

I have several of these at work and home. You can buy a 4 pack of toner refills on Ebay for just under $25. I absolutely love this printer!

    • c.briley

Everybody! Get your toner from Monoprice.com! That place is crazy cheap on everything they sell and its high quality stuff. For this printer the cartridge is only $20! And that’s for the 2600 page one….not the cheapo ones. here’s the link.

    • Lizel

Thank you so much! I have been waiting for this printer to go on sale!

    • guest

This is a great printer, but the toner cartridge it comes with is only a “starter.” You will not get very many pages out of it before you have to buy a new toner cartridge for about $60.

    • Kathy Vaden

I would go to Times' Square and look for a sign that says “Tickets, Tickets, Tickets”. In their little office they sell tickets to all the Broadway shows at deep discount prices for the same day viewing (last minute available sale prices) You have to get there early (Might be a line) for matinees (cheaper) and you might be able to snag evening shows too if available. I'm so excited just looking at the shows like “A Little Night Music with Bernadette Peters, and “Chicago” with John Hurley or “Momma Mia” Not unheard of to get a end seat ticket for $50 instead of $130+. Lots of siingle seats so might not sit together if a group but WHAT A DEAL! I LOVE THEATRE AND ESPECIALLY MUSICALS. ! This place sells them all. Have a wonderful time! Wish I were coming along! You can also go on line & get discount tickets, but they willl not be as low. The online places sell more to internet – what's left over go to places like tickets tickets tickets.

    • Amym850

Is it on sale today only?

      • Lori

Website says its part of the Big Sale (or Event) and goes thru Sat.

    • Marysc1000

Just got mine, and used $24 in ink recycling rewards so it was only $27!!!!! I thought about waiting until Friday when it would be tax free, but the tax was under $2.

    • Sissyo

I have been wanting a laser printer & as of 8/5 I should have one. Thanks so much!!!!

    • Jenniferthompson

      is this a color printer?

    • Seehartsock

I bought this laser printer 6 months ago. It works great. I didn't realize until the salesman told me that to get more printing done go into settngs and put it on grayscale. This is useful for regular printer or laser. By putting it on grayscale the quality may not be as good but if you are just printing coupons this works great. This only prints black and white but is well worth the money to buy this product. The only time I had a problem was when the paper was low the last sheet jammed. This is an excellent product.

    • Adhollan

I ordered mine through the ebates website late yesterday afternoon. The Staples delivery guy brought it to my house by 10 am this morning. That's great service!

    • Jennifermathis24

Same her!! Ordered yesterday and got it today!!! Way to go Staples, this totally makes up for the toilet paper goof a few months back!

    • sharon60

I've been out of printer ink ($52) for 4 weeks and going nuts because I can't print Q's. I was looking for a printer with refillable ink but this is soooooooooo much better. I just ordered and used my $16 in Staples rewards and paid $36.25 including tax. Thank you so much Jenny for this and ALL that you do to save all of us so much money!!!!

    • Natalie559

I've had my eye on this printer since you gave some away around christmas time. Thank you so much for the heads up on the sale. I purchased one on my way home today, just hooked it up and it works great! Thanks again!

    • megan

these are currently out of stock – does anyone know if I can buy it online now at the sale price and receive it later? We don't have a staples store here. Thanks!

    • Amy

I ordered mine Monday, and it was supposed to arrive yesterday but it didn't. I checked my order status and my order total is now 0. I called and they said it was out of stock and that I wouldn't be getting it. No phone call from them, no e-mail notification…. She wouldn't change my order to store pick-up even though they are supposedly in stock there. Sounds like another toilet paper deal. UGHHH!!!

      • Amy

Update: Fortunately they had it in stock at my local Staples, and I was able to get the deal there. I guess it worked out since it is tax-free weekend so that saved a few bucks.

    • sharon60

Update, rec'd email from Staples yesterday afternoon that my order couldn't be filled, I found it available in a store an hour away – definitely worth the drive. Box says starter toner good for 1000 pages. I'm still excited after all my hassle. Thanks again Jenny!

    • Jbdavis1977

does anyone know of any online staples coupons?
