CVS is offering a gift card savings promotion right now.  For every $25 you buy in CVS gift cards you get a free $5 eGift Card.  For every $25 you buy, you get another $5 bonus.

The gift cards and bonus e-gift cards can all be used in your local store.  You print out the code and the cashier can enter it when you check out.

They run this every 6 months or so, but only for a limited time.  So delay at your own risk.

One Idea::

I would encourage my CVSer’s out there to at least grab one.  Then play a game for the next few months to see how long you can get your gift cards to last.  This will make you focus on your scenarios being perfect and trying your hardest to decrease your out of pocket costs!  If you are new to CVS shopping get all the details of how awesome it can be!

    • mel

I did this last time and bought 4 @ $25 then got an extra $20!!! i thought it would be easier to keep track of $25 in spending then $100. It worked great. I just wrote on the sheet every time i bought something to track them easy. I did spend them faster then i thought but it was xmas and i bought a lot of toys at CVS. but through the summer it should last me a long time. Thanks for letting us know. I will be sure to grab this one.

    • Donloveschristy

      wow- how
long can u hold the gift card before it expires?

      • YourBusIsHere

“There is no expiration date on your eGift Card. We recommend that you redeem it soon after you receive it, so you don't forget,” per CVS website

    • Doris

Do you need to use the entire $25 eGift card in a single purchase or do they work like regular gift cards where you can maintain a balance? Thanks!

      • Fgavent

They work like a regular gift card and you can maintain a balance. Some of the CVS cashiers are clueless about redeeming them although the instructions are on the paper you print. One cashier even told me that I had to use it all at one time (WRONG!)

    • Lorifgreer

Does an eGift card mean you have to spend it on the internet?

      • CCShad

“The gift cards and bonus e-gift cards can all be used in your local store. You print out the code and the cashier can enter it when you check out.”

      • YourBusIsHere

No, you print it out and take it to the store. The “e” in eGift Card means its sent electronically so you can gift it to someone (or yourself) by email.

      • Lorifgreer

    • jen

can you purchase gift cards in store and get the bonus or do you have to purchase the gift card online?

      • LaBreeska

This is what I want to know also.

      • Donna

This is an online deal only. You will not get the bonus if you purchase the gift cards from in-store. You will have to purchase it online in order for you to receive your e-gift card. They will email it to you for the purchase you selected as well as a seperate email for your bonus. You will then have to print out that e-gift card and keep it safe. do not lose it. also a good idea to write the amount on the paper inorder to keep track of the amount you have left. hth.

    • Rebecca

appears not to be working at the moment.

      • YourBusIsHere

For me either. I tried with 2 credit cards because i thought that might be the problem. Glad to see someone else is having an issue, well not glad but you know what I mean lol

        • Rebecca

yeah, i just went to my credit card website to check to see if I was the problem. nope! maybe soon… i missed this deal last time it was out, and have been sad about it ever since!

          • YourBusIsHere

Try it again, just got it to work for me. If you only want to buy 1 make sure you check your cart. It didn't work the first time so when I went back to the website and added another it remembered the one from before and I ended up with 2. Just FYI

            • Rebecca

still no luck. i guess i'll come back later

    • klh1976

I received a confirmation email of my purchase, but no printable card(s) yet. How long should I expect to wait? Will the bonus card arrive in a separate email? Thanks to anyone who can answer!

      • LaBreeska

When I ordered mine, on the ordering page it had an option to select the delivery date. The first available date was tomorrow, so I went with that & expect to receive it in my email tomorrow.

    • Momof1fungirl

I got the card, but no extra $5 card, did I need to add it or is it automatic?

      • Momof1fungirl

Never mind, I just got it, it just came later. Thanks!

        • YourBusIsHere

Can you advise how long it took to receive your card and bonus card from the time you made the purchase? I'm still waiting but it hasn't been long.

          • Momof1fungirl

3 emails came immediately (confirmation, purchase, ecard). Then the extra ecard came about 5 minutes later.

    • auroraborealis

Ok so I buy the gift card online and they email it to me along with an additional $5 certificate? Or do I buy the card in the store?

      • YourBusIsHere

All online. eGift Cards can be redeemed in but they are not sold in stores.

    • I like the idea of the “game” to see how far you can stretch your gift card. Let me know if anyone is up for a little “friendly” competition. If nothing else – it should help some of us (myself included) learn some good CVSing skills.

      • YourBusIsHere

        Oh I'm game lol
I don't normally shop at CVS so I thought I'd give myself some incentive and see home long I can make it last between coupons & ECBs

        • Cool – hopefully we'll get a few other people on board. Should be fun!

      • Hildawins

I still get CVS “Stung” as they are a.) out of the item and b.) always have a small caveat that stops me cold.

Fun though! I will follow your game though!

        • Rclay18

I love CVS because of their rainchecks. They'll give you the ECBs on your raincheck where Walgreens will not give you RRs on theirs.

          • kjmiller

I know, that is one of the main reasons I vastly prefer CVS to Wags. I typically don't get to the drugstores until later in the week (Wednesday or so) and Wags never has any of the advertised RR items. (Actually most of the time even when I make it by Monday, they are still often out of stock on RR deals). Blech!

        • Rainchecks or substitution! I'll give you an example. This week they have Dove Men's Deodorant on sale for 99 cents…which is a steal! Well, they are always out of it because everyone keeps buying it up. You can get a raincheck…which is great, but in my case – they let me purchase a comparable brand for the same price. So on Monday I picked up 5 sticks of Axe deodorant for 99 cents each, then I went to another CVS on Wednesday and got 5 sticks of Degree at 99 cents each. I even got so bold (yesterday) that I went in to a CVS, they were out, asked if they would substitute, and they said yes…so I grabbed 5 sticks of Dove Women's Deodorant. Of course, the manager looked at me a little funny, but he just said “OK”…so I was able to get some deodorant for my wife. She was pretty happy about that.

I mean, hey…it was Dove deodorant. They same brand, and the women's deodorant is less expensive than the men's so I felt like I was being fair.

          • Frances

You're a genius!!! I think I will have to do that! Thanks for the tip! I will be going to CVS on my lunch break!

            • You're welcome. Like I said, I had to swallow my pride a little to go to the counter with a basket full of women's deodorant, but I now have several sticks for me and the wife to last several months. Let me know if it works out for you – I'm sure it will.

      • Jeff

I play this game with the gift card deals all the time. I have been stretching out my $50 Publix Amex cards since the promotion before last. How can you argue with an immediate 10% return on your investment? It makes every deal that much sweeter. If you are a responsible credit card user, consider buying these giftcards with a rewards credit card that is giving you back rewards on drugstore purchases for even more bang for the buck. Just remember it is only worth it if you can pay it all the way off at the end of the month.

        • kidsallgone

I did just that….purchased with my Visa Rewards credit card.
Only thing I'm wondering….should I have gone through Ebates too?
UGH!!! Why do I always forget that!! LOL!!
Bought a $150 card to get $30 free.
Then bought another $150 card to get another $30 free!
My prescript cost $80 (UGH AGAIN!) a month.
So the extra $60 will def help with that :-)
          Thanks Jenny!!

      • I purchased $100 egift card when they had the promo before Christmas. I still have about $20 on it and I still have the $20 free egift card. I plan to do it again.

    • Emergencyrn09

do you have to sign in to your cvs online account in order to get the 5$. please let me know I just tried getting a gift card but no news of the extra bucks.

      • YourBusIsHere

I clicked the link provided above by Jenny. There is an advertisement over on the side that explains the promotion. My understanding is that they are both emailed but I'm still waiting.

      • YourBusIsHere

        • YourBusIsHere

UPDATE: Just got mine. They do send everything by email. You don't have to login to your account.

    • Hildawins

I looked at this sweet – however, while there I saw this:

Earn $1 ExtraBucks for every 2 prescriptions** Is this new? My family insurance requires us to go thru CVS. So I should have oodles of ExtraBucks on my account but there are none? Anyone know this policy?
      Thank you!

      • Crafty_cat_86

It resets every quarter and prints w/ your quarterly ECBs. hth!

      • Frances

I'm not sure about the policy, but I can tell you that my husband gets all his prescriptions from CVS. The other day after paying for some Easter stuff on clearance I got back $3 ECB and a note saying something about his prescription for diabetes! I was thrilled!!!

      • Not new. You have to still scan your red card each time you pick one up. Is it Caremark? We have that and can go anywhere, but I still prefer CVS because of the reward. They sent us a WHITE CVS card that is something to do with prescritions, but I have no idea what and I'd rather use the RED one to get my $1 for every 2!

        • Oh and it prints with your quarterly spending ECB. Mine was $4.50 last month because of all my prescriptions.

    • Natalie559

Last time I did this deal many of the cashiers were clueless on how to properly redeem them. Made redeeming them just a bit more time consuming, but I still think it was worth it.

      • A lot of times, mine won't scan, so they have to manually insert the number or for those that know how to use it, they have to hit a certain button before scanning.

    • Amy Heaps

This works out perfect for my family, because (unfortunately), our health insurance Rx plan is a reimbursement plan. Every month we have to pay full price and the insurance company mails us a check. I always take the check and cash it and use the money to buy a CVS gift card – that way when we get our sons Rx, out OOP is only a few bucks. This is like getting a huge reward on what I already do!

    • kidsallgone

Last time I got one for my mom and for myself.
It was great because I have to pay full price for my meds :(
      At least I can get rewarded w/the $5 on each $25 I purchase :)
I was also able to upload a picture on the gift card/email last time.
      That was fun!

    • Leah

      how do the Egiftcards work?

      • YourBusIsHere

Just like regular ones except they're emailed and you have to print them out.

        • Leah

thank you thought i was the only 1 here so I get them on line right?

          • YourBusIsHere

      • Leah

ok so I read some comments below. do I have to order the cards (both of them ) on line? then I get a code to give the girl at the regester. then the girl gives me the cards ? is this right?

        • YourBusIsHere

Order the egift card online and you will get the original and the reward email to you separately. Then follow the link in the email and print off your card. It has a bar code that scans at the register but also includes a number/pin for online use.

    • Clueless301

Can gift cards be used to buy tobacco products?

      • Donna

No you can't use it for that, other gift cards, lottery tickets, prescriptions…read the terms and conditions for the rules on the card.

      • Jane

yes, you can use this for tobacco products. just not other gift cards. I've done this before with no problem.

    • mrs. b

I got mine in the store but no Egift card..does this only work when you purchase the gift card online?

      • mrs. b

Nevermind..called customer service and this is offer is only available online..DO NOT purchase the gift card in the store

        • flower_mom

That must have been my problem last time. It was right before Christmas and I heard about the deal. I purchased a $25 gc in store and got nothing. It was OK, though. I just finished using it up a few weeks ago…So that lasted awhile. :)

    • flower_mom

I got one…They send me an email saying they are processing my order. Looking forward to it!

    • LOVE doing this!! Lasts usually til another one comes around if I'm thrifty with it!

    • Still working on the $25 CVS card I got for Christmas.

    • Do you need to purchase your gift cards in separate $25 increments to get multiple $5 bonus' or can you purchase just one larger amount card and get several of the $5 bonus' added onto it?

      • Just called CVS cust service and they are clueless about this promo. Hoping someone answers my ? soon. Would hate to miss out on this one.

        • Amy

You can do one large amount. I bought 150 and got a 30 egift card

      • YourBusIsHere

No. You may purchase any amount and each $25 increment will yield a $5 reward. The reward is combined onto one card so say you buy $100, you'll get a eGift Reward Card worth $20.

    • David

I went to CVS and this did not work at all! It says nothing in the post about this being online only. Can you point me somewhere on the CVS site to confirm this with the store?

      • YourBusIsHere

The promotion is for an eGift Card which are not sold in stores. You can use them in the store though.

    • Tmpreston

just thought that I would point out that this promo is a great way to use your couponing skills to buy up some toiletries, lotions, diapers, wipes, etc to donate to the tornado victims. They are in desperate need of this stuff and we are the most skilled at getting large amounts for little money…the $5.00 free could provide a lot of relief to many people when paired with your ability to get a lot for $5!

      • YourBusIsHere

Comes in another email following the one for your card.

    • Tonjatjmom

this is not what it looks like…. just got off the phone with cvs…. they said…u get one egift card, there IS NO A BONUS $5 bonus… the way i read this: u get one $5 egift card and one $5 bonus card for every $25.oo u spend.. they say NO…only ONE egift card period… very disappointing… thought i was getting $10 back in bonus and egift for every 25….

      • CCShad

Yes, I think you read it wrong at first. It is $5 bonus for the $25 gift card and an extra $5 for each $25 after that. If you go to the deal and click on the terms, it shows the breakdown of what you get: like $30 bonus when you buy $150 in gift cards.

    • Jhallet

On behalf of CashStar, the company executing CVS' offer, we are writing to inform you that the $25 gets you $5 offer has ended. The number of promos (“while supplies last”) has been reached.

Thank you for your support of CVS' offers.

      • Fallaya

Wow…I just purchased two less than 30 minutes ago…I guess I got in just under the wire! What a great promo! :-)

      • Klb28

I just got one. It still works.

    • Nita Royal

Wow – that was quick! Glad I got mine a couple of hours ago, as I had thought to do it tomorrow. Now to see how long I can make it last ;-)

    • tori729

Is this still working? Don't want to buy it and it not work!

      • RJ

I don't think the offer is ongoing. I just bought 50.00 then 150.00 and did not receive the 5.00 for every 25.00.

    • pharmSCgirl

I bought a gc last night and got the confirmation email that said we are processing your order but still havent recieved the gc in an email. Help please.

      • YourBusIsHere

There was a delivery date you had to select when you made your purchase. I was able to select yesterday's date 4/29 but others were reporting the fist available for them was today.

      • Rose

I got the ecard but there's no $5 bonus certificate. It's been over an hour passed already.

    • cmeteach

Okay, I bought the $25 gc and didn't get the $5 ecard b/c it was no longer available. When I went to the store to use my giftcard, the rep said I can't get change. I bought $25 and I have to use all of it on the purchase or lose it. It kind of defeats the purpose of seeing how long you can make it last. So does this mean that if I purchase $25 of stuff I the store, the in store $5 bonus is no longer available also? The CVS in my town is so rude. ALL of them> I stopped using them completely when they built a Wal-Greens several years ago. If i can save some $ i'd like to go back to them but I don't know if it will be worth the hassle.

      • Jesus_freak86

You do not have to use the whole $25 at one time. I am a cashier at CVS in Asheville and I had a woman present me with the printed 5 and 25 dollar giftcards. She used all of her $5 but only a little of her $25 and I merely gave her back the paper it was printed on. It WILL work!

    • Jane

      THE PROMO HAS ENDED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Larry56

I bought two gift cards yesterday, and they were delivered, but I didn't get the bonus. A little disappointed.

    • camerahandi

I bought two $25 gift cards and haven't received the $5 bonus—-Ugh! The $5 bonus is the only reason I bought the gift card in the first place.

    • Jane

Unfortunately the promo has ended as of Friday at 10pm.

      • thank you for letting us know!

    • kaykay

I wished I had known it had ended, I would not have purchased it.

      • Terry

        Me too.
There was no sign, that said it would end on 04/29.

    • Nikki in Lakeland FL

Well wouldn't it be smart to buy one to use for checking out instead of cash

    • Susanfh

I guess I did it in a to big of a hurry and I didn't know it had ended until I purchased it either.

    • Guest

This is over. Would've been nice to have known that earlier.

    • Larry56

Email from CVS on 5/2/11 – Unfortunately, the promotion ended on 04/29/2011, and it will not return in the near future. There is no definite date of when the promotion will return. Please check back on our website at a later date.

    • Allison

Well, I missed out on this one, but last time I used it for a few months. I did have fun trying to “stretch it out”. CVS has such good deals and a great coupon policy, that usually I spend less than a dollar each visit. Love how they take more coupons than actual items and their Extra Bucks don't expire for a whole month……and, no. I am not a CVS emplyoyee or spokesperson. haha

    • Ctt1955

Has anyone else noticed, or is it just me….CVS has cut down on the ECB received with purchases.
