Food Lion Weekly Ad 8/26-9/1

on 8.25.2009 at 8:18pm

This post may contain affiliate links. Read our disclosure here.

These deals start Wednesday 8/26 at Food Lion. Some stores in the Carrollton and Newnan areas of GA are tripling coupons .99 cents or less all week. This appears to be a test market like WV and some areas of VA were a few months ago. They will triple 20 coupons per day and you have to use your MVP card for them to triple. If you are in this area, use the most recent triples list from Harris Teeter as a guide.

For everyone else this is still a pretty good for Food Lion.

Note:  You should only use one of each FL printable coupon per transaction!  I have listed some numerous times just to give you an idea on what it works on.

1. Check with your local store about B1G1 items. Ask “Are you required to buy 2, or will they each ring up at half price?”
2. Most Food Lion stores do not double coupons.
3. If you do a B1G1 deal, use 2 coupons if they will let you.

You can also use buy 1 ritz cracker get 1 crackerful free and then also use $1 off any crackerful. End up with 2 boxes of ritz crackers and 2 boxes of crackerfuls and still make 0.25.

    • In my area (Upstate, SC), Ground Beef is $0.99/lb.!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Melissa C.

Yay, I’ve been shopping the Carrollton store lately. It’s a long way for me to drive, but it’s a really nice store. I’m excited about triple coupons!

    • Jacque

Geee. That Carrollton store Melissia# 3 is my home store. It is a nice store. and Friday WE will be there to get the 4 cent bounty and the free texas toast garlic bread. Whoo hooo triples!

    • Jacque

oh We sell chemical free produce Butter beans, field peas, Tomatoes Great tasting so if you would like some e-mail me and we will meet you there. for produce!! and then Shop the GREAT LION!! of carrollton.

    • Melissa C.

Have you shopped triples before, Jacque? What happens if the coupon values go more than the item costs…do they give overage?

    • kelli

Melissa C. – we had triples at my food lion back in June. My experience was that the coupon tripled up to the value of the item, but if the item was on sale, you could get overage. I actually ended up getting paid something like 20 cents for one shopping trip. All of the signs said no overage, but I still got it.

      Example: item x
      regular price $1.50
      on sale for $1.00
      use a coupon for $.50
it would still take off $1.50, so it would be a money maker

Also, if you’ve got a bunch of coupons for 1 item that comes in difference sizes, if you buy a bigger size the coupon will triple to the full amount, assuming the smaller item it less than triple. I had a bunch of coupons for tabasco sauce and when I bought the little bottles ($1.75 on sale for $1) they only tripled up to $1.75 but when I bought a big bottle and a little one at the same time the $.75 coupon tripled up to $2.25.

    • kelli

Oh and unless they’ve changed it, it’s not actually a limit of 20 coupons per person, per day, per card, or whatever it says. It’s just 20 per transaction. I did at least 10 transactions over the 3 days at my Food Lion with 1 card.

I had a pretty successful weekend when they did triples, I got something like $550 worth of groceries for about $30. I hope that they’ll do it again. It was amazing!

    • Andrea, you can’t combine the free crackerful and the $1/1 crackerful coupons. That’s using two manufacturer coupons on the same item. Now, if you had a $1/1 for the Ritz crackers, you could use that with the Buy Ritz get free crackerful coupon.

      Make sense?

    • Melissa C.

      Thanks for the info Kelli.

The Food Lion is over an hour drive for me, so I was hoping to do more than one shop while I was there, but I do have 3 cards…that is, I have one, my hubby has one, and my son has one, lol.
I hope they don’t flip out about it.

The different sizes you were talking about, the Tabasco sauce, you bought a small and a larger, and used 2 coupons, and they both tripled to $2.25, is that right?

    • Gail

Just a note that the Dallas, GA store is having it’s ‘long-awaited’ Grand-Opening today (*8/26/09)

Deal: $.50 Food Lion 2Ltrs. Printable for $1.00/3. ($.22 ea.)
The ad states limit 4. So 4/$1.16 is $.29/ea.

    • kelli

Melissa C. – My store didn’t really care if I did more than one transaction. I made my fiance come shopping with me to make it seem less obvious that we were kind of breaking the rules.

As for the coupons, yes. I literally had about 25 tabasco sauce coupons and the little bottles were totally free (they actually gave me +$.75) so I bought a bunch of them… I figured I could donate them somewhere or share them with my family members, give them away as party favors, something… but I noticed when I bought a big bottle in a flavor (that my fiance really wanted), I think that they were about $3.50, and a few small ones that ALL of the $.75 coupons that I used tripled to $2.25. I don’t think that the computer realizes that you just bought 1 big bottle, it just sees that you did in fact buy 1 big bottle so it tripled them to the highest amount.

    • Mollie

      Jacque (#5)

I also go to the Carrollton Food Lion. I would love to buy some tomatoes from you!

    • Rosie

Where can I find the -$1 off any Guiding Stars????? I looked at the ood lion coupon list and couldn’t find it…THanks:)

    • Beth

There’s a $1 printable off FL cereal, making it free!

    • Lynda

I just went to the Carrollton store and had a really great experience. I saved 31.00 and spent 5.33. No register beeps at all. They have really fine tuned the register for the triple coupons.

    • Melody

Grand opening in Dallas, Ga, I am a fan of Publix’s but will check them out!!! Cokes are 5 for $11.00.

    • Perdue perfect portions chicken breasts are on sale at the Richmond, VA stores this week for only $5.99, plus I’ve found a coupon online for $1 off, here’s the link for the coupon: http://www.perdue.com/coupons/perfect-portions-2009-5/

    • Sandra

Thanks Amanda! Not too many of us Richmond folks on here I don’t think!!! Ukrops is having a good sale this week too.
Also, the Excedrin coupon I had in 7/12 insert expired on 8/23 :(
Thanks Jenny for the site! I still love it even though we don’t get triple coupons. :(

    • Andrea

We shop Richmond stores, too, when we get there. :) Our local FL has the same sales as the Richmond anyway. Wish we’d get triples! That would pay the gas for my shopping trip! Kroger’s usually better deals for us, though.

Regarding the Ritz crackers coupons… I tried it with the $2 off Angel Soft wyb any pack Sparkle. I combined that with a $1 off Sparkle. It beeped and the manager said it was using 2 Qs for the same item. I didn’t read it that way, but it didn’t work. Don’t think the Ritz would either because of the same thing. Hope it’ll work for you, though!

    • courtney

SOOOO frustrating. Went to the Dawsonville GA Food Lion (whihc is the closest to us and still 20 mins) with a friends and our two year olds. We were all ready to shop when the CSM says…we only triple to 99cents so your 75 cent Q is only going to get you 99cents off….not sucha good deal…so we rearrange our plans and get what is still a decent deal and check out. Well at check out they scan the Q’s and the do triples like this…original Q value + up to 99cent double value so a a 35 cent Q is really worth 1.05 total…a 75cent Q is worth 1.75 (instead of 2.25 triple value)…hope this helps someone before they shop! Resses were BOGO and used my Mentos 55Q so made money there to comensate for the rest…

    • kelli

courtney – I don’t completely understand what you’re saying about the 75 cent coupon only being worth $1.75 but I do know when they did triples at my store (in June I believe) the coupons actually tripled (up to the value of the item you’re buying). The receipt will say “coupon -$.99” then right after that it said “tripled -$1.98.” Maybe they’ve changed the way that it works but the experience you’re describing is nothing like the many transactions I had a Food Lion for triples. I spent less than $40 on over $500 worth of groceries over they 3 days that they did it at my store.

    • Maree

Is Bloom’s same as Food Lion? In Upstate SC our Blooms is doing triple coupons this week, & I heard Blooms was affiliated with Food Lion. Do they have the same weekly specials? Thanks.

    • courtney

Kelli- The receipt shows coupon .75 cents then right after tripled .99 cents…they limit the triple amount to .99 cents. The way the ad is worded is ambiguous and so the manager said they only go to 99 cents on the triple value for up to 20 coupons per visit. So a .75 Q is only worth $1.74 not $2.25, as it would be if it were truely tripled. Hope that clarifies it…don;t want anyone to make the same mistake we made :-(

    • courtney

Kelli–also forgot to include that I am in GA so they don’t ever do triples here (which is why we drove 40 minutes to go to and from the store) and the CSM said “they were trying it out”…so it might still be a true triples event other places…we went to the Dawsonville FL.

    • Melissa C.

I just called the Carrollton FL (before I drove an hour down there) and was told coupons with a value up to .99 triple up to the cost of the item. That is, a .75 coupon will triple to 2.25 on a 3.00 item. If the item costs 1.99, then the .75 coupon will stop at 1.99.

Courtney maybe you should call Corp and ask if you were done right or if it was Manager’s choice to do it like yours did. They may need to call and tell that Manager he’s doing it wrong.

    • l

I love this web site…..I get every thing ready thre night before..but here lately my Fl in Fla has some nasty employees….Fla
fl don’t double or triple and they still give you trouble about the
coupons! Just added info Fl has to take Harveys coupons as per
homeoffice….So I resolved it I just shop at Publix…they are so much nicer…lol

    • kelli

courtney – I’m in Virginia and they’ve only done triples that one weekend back in June. Did they manually triple them of did the register do it for them? My first trip when they were tripling was messed up because their registers weren’t working right. I used 20 coupons and they cashier scanned them and then subtracted $20 from my total. Most of my coupons were 75 cents though, so they were giving me the triple. I went to customer service and got my money back, about $7 from the $14 that I’d spent. Originally he said that it was tripled up to 99 cents, meaning that you only saved an extra UP TO 99 cents per coupon then his manager corrected him and told him that I was right. If you have a 99 cent coupon you should save $2.97 total.

I agree with Melissa. You should call corporate and complain/get your money back. They should all be doing it the same way.

    • Jacque

Mollie # 13 Jacque here been out plantin the fall garden this am. My email is Jacquetex@gmail.com We will be going Friday to Food lion.
Jacque to spend ou triples! we live 15 mins away. This is one on our stores we shop!

    • Stacie

I had great luck with the triples when they did it here in VA a while back! They tripled everything just the way they were suppose to. I didn’t even have any problems with them only tripling up to the value of the product, maybe because I had so many products and I never had overage, I’m not really sure, but I did great! I also bought a bunch of the tobasco sauce and got lots of free French’s mustard, too! Honey mustard, yellow mustard and spicy brown! I found the Wet One’s wipes that are usually $2 something and got them for .25 cent a container (I cleared the shelves of a lot of stuff, shame on me!). Oh, how I wish they would do that again! I’ve been shopping at Kroger more because of the great deals there, but I love Food Lion, I really like Food Lion better than Kroger, but it’s all about the savings!

    • Sarah

Beth #15 where is the FL 1.00/1 cereal coupon you are talking about to make it free ?

      Thanks for the help !

    • kelli

Stacie – where in VA are you? I’m in Blacksburg. I hope that they’ll do triples again here sometime. When they did them here the first time, I was fairly new to couponing… I think I could do a lot better right now. :) Although, I can’t complain at all about how well I did.

I never used to shop at Food Lion because I thought that they were too expensive. Now I shop there several times a week. I hope that they keep the awesome store coupons coming!

    • kelli

ah yes! where is the FL cereal coupon?! I’d love to get some free cereal!

    • kelli

I just found a FL coupon for FL cereal that expired on the 4th… is there a new one?

    • courtney

The coupons were scanned by the register and the computer did the “math”. Good suggestion on calling…will be making that call first thing in AM. Thanks all!

    • Tammi

At the FL I shopped at today the triples came off right. My receipt shows the coupons coming off like…
      scanned coupon -.75 (MQ)
      tripled coupon -1.50
      scanned coupon -.55 (MQ)
      tripled coupon -1.10
It was a good trip today lots of free Powerade. I had several coupons for .75/2 Powerade is on sale for 5/$5.00.

    • andrea

The ritz coupons worked for me with the free crackerful. Also all of my coupons tripled, even though some of the items were less. I spent $26 but saved $93. Very successful day, will be going back later this week for more.

    • Edna

      Hi all,

I shop the FL in Carrollton to and I’m thrilled to have the triples!
I made one trip today and saved about $45 on a $60 order.
I will be going back tomorrow.
      Good shopping everyone!

    • Nikki

      Tammi #36

Do you remember where you got the Powerade coupon?

    • Melissa

      This was my trip today:

      Mueller Spaghetti, 8 oz. .68 x 4 = 2.72

      2 Sobe Life Waters 1.00 each = 2.00
-BOGO Coupon (I know I could have gotten this for free at Kroger, but they wouldn’t accept an internet BOGO coupon) (This coupon rung up as -1.59.)

      2 Barilla Plus Penne Pasta 1.95 each = 3.90

Red Baron Deep Dish singles, pepperoni 3.79

      Kellogg’s Cinnabon bars 2.79

      Taco Bell Home Originals Kit 3.05 – 1.38 sale = 1.67
-.75/1 internet coupon –they had to manually enter this one, and I had to remind them to triple it.

Reese’s King Size peanut butter cups 1.50
-.55/1 The coupon beeped, so the manager entered it as -1.10, and reminded the cashier not to give cash back. I asked if that was the price I paid and the cashier nodded. My receipt proves otherwise, but I’m not worried about it. I did well enough!

      Before coupons: 18.37

After coupons tripled, my total was .48!!

      That’s right… 48 CENTS–including tax.

    • candace

I was wondering if when a deal says limit 4 if your food lion card remembers how many you bought? I know cvs cards remember. Can anyone help me? Also do they remember which food lion coupons you have used??

    • Melissa

This is for those in the Cayce/West Columbia area. The Reid’s opened yesterday. They have some pretty good deals in their meat department. (Ex. roast $1.79 lb.) Since they are associated with Food Lion, they will take Food Lion coupons i.e. the $5.00 off $20.00 purchase of meat. I did phone to confirm. However, they will not double coupons.

    • Tammi

      Nikki #39
I found the Powerade coupons .75/2(tearpad)at Publix a couple of days ago.

    • Emily

      Hi All,

I’m in Roanoke Virgina where there are many Food Lions. My experience in June with triple coupons was different at two stores. One store tripled up to 99 cents no matter how much the item was so you could get overage. The other store would triple but not give you any overage, so it might be .50 + .50 + .25 if the item was 1.25. I think each store can program their computers differently, so watch out to see what each store is doing and then check around at the other stores. Hope this helps.

    • Toni

Can you use multiple Guiding Star coupons with different products or is it limited to 1 coupon per trip?

    • nancy

I am so happy for all of the triple Coupons but I am also jealous.

    • tina

Food Lion has the Chef Michael’s dog food 2/$7 using the $3Q from 8/23 making it .50cents a bag.

    • Larissa

Total before coupons at a tripling store in Carrollton: $96. Came out paying $36!! I didn’t know about the 20-coupon limit so I’ll have to take my left over stack back tomorrow. Very goog experience. Store was very well stocked, and cashier was the best ever!

    • kelli

candace (#41) – I don’t think that it remembers limits. I’ve bought BOGO things with limits a bunch of times in different transactions and never had a problem.

Toni (#45) – the coupons say “one per person, per transaction, per day” or something similar to that. It has been my experience that I can use multiples per trip/day as long as I do it in separate transactions. Neither of the stores in my town care if I use more than one per day, I just can’t use more than one per transaction.

    • I went to Food Lion (in Richmond, VA) last night and tried to use an internet printed coupon for the perdue chicken that I had posted a comment about earlier, the cashier said they are no longer accepting internet printed coupons!! This was very disheartening for me, however, I wonder if it just depends on the cashier that you choose when you go through the line. I went last week and they accepted an internet coupon for a different item. I’m frustrated with Food Lion lately, they don’t seem to have as many good deals other than the Guiding Stars items. Oh well, guess I’ll be shopping mostly at Kroger in my area, they’ll take the coupons and they have the same sale price this week on the chicken.

    • Angie

I’m also in the Richmond, VA area and totally agree with Amanda. I’ve also had trouble with markdowns ringing up regular price. They definitely need to work on their customer service!

    • kelli

I live in Blacksburg, VA and I’ve never had a problem with either of the stores here taking printed coupons. I don’t know if they’re more laid back here or what. I use printed coupons every time I go in the store, whether it’s a Food Lion coupon or other printables.

One thing you might try is going to the scan yourself lines… that’s what I usually do. You can your own coupons that way and unless there’s a problem with the coupon, they don’t mess with you.

    • candace

Thanks Kelli, I was able to get three cokes for .17 each yeah!!!

    • cynthia

i shop at food lion in north carolina… does anybody no if they are going to do tripples or doubles in my area.

    • Tracey

Will FL accept multiple guiding star coupons? I just got back from the store trying to use 5 guiding star coupons for eggs, bread, grapes, etc. They only accepted one. Thanks!

    • Amy

I just went to the Food Lion in Blue Ridge, GA and they have the ground beef for .99/lb instead of 1.39/lb.

    • Stacie

So, these are all of my deals for the day, Target and Food Lion! I was on a budget of $100 this week, so I did great and still have $53.08 left for Krogering tomorrow!

      Target deals:

So, I did pretty well! I would have done a lot better had my husband not had to have his razor blades, but he needed them, plus my BOGO Chef Michaels stackables didn’t work as I thought they would, I did end up having to pay for 2, but it’s not bad still. Then I headed over to Food Lion and did great again!

I didn’t make it to Kroger, but I’m still below my budget for the week and I already have almost everything we need, including lots of meat I got at Food Lion with the $5/$20 in the meat department Flip. I got sandwich baggies for the hubby’s lunches, whiteout, 3 big packages of chicken, 3 big packages of hamburger, 1 pack of FL wipes, bananas, organic beans, Scott naturals TP (it was on sale for $2.79 – $1 mfr q made it a decent deal) and I’m really not sure what else I got, but I had a trunk full of stuff ($136.91 worth) when I got home and only spent $46.92 oop!! Oh, add some Food Lion Soda in that mix, eggs, too! Got plenty to last the week and still have to go to Kroger tomorrow!

No, they will not accept multiples on the FLIPS. You should only use one per transaction per day.

Tracey – My store will let me use more than one per day but only one per transaction.

i used the flip on the mayonnaise, to get the small jars of dukes for 79 cents each. also there is a book in the front of the store ,i think it is called shoppers comunity with a $2.00 coupon for greenworks products in it and i matched it with the greenworks coupon for dertegent , but i got the greenworks dish dergent and the cleaning supplys for free.. the dergent was still to expensive with both coupons.. also i got 3 mountain dews for $1.21. use the flip for f.l. drinkd and there is a coupon for buy 2 get one free

Did you use 2 coupons for the dish detergent?

The 1.00 FLIP for a loaf of Hawaiian Bread works on the 4 packs of Hawaiian Rolls that are priced at 1.29 at my store making them .29 each. My sister in law took these up to the register to see if they would work with the Q and the did–I’ve been a couple of times, different days to stock up on these cause my husband LOVES them!

The FL in Dawsonville. Ga is also tripling coupons this week.

I have given up on Food Lion, today was the last straw! I just picked up a few things and didn’t have a lot of coupons, but I did have a couple IP’s. They didn’t want to take my IP’s at first, but I insisted, so they took then to the managers office to look them up on a list to see if they were fakes. It took forever for them to come back, and of course, they weren’t fakes and they did take them, but then they told me I could only use one of each coupon, so I had to dig a bunch of stuff out of my cart and put it back, so frustrating and embarrassing! First Wal-Mart, and now Food Lion are making it nearly impossible, and very frustrating to use coupons. I will now be taking all my business to Bi-Lo and Publix, were they seem to have no problem with coupons.

I have a question about the $3 off $10 deli/bakery coupon. Does this apply to any deli/bakery item, such as sandwich meat? It seems to indicate a meal deal on the area around the coupon, but the face of the coupon says only deli/bakery purchase. Has anyone successfully used it for something else?

I am very new to using coupons. I have one question: How many coupons can you use on an item? If you have 2 or more manufacturers coupons for different amounts can you use both? Or can you combine the coupons with the store coupons. Thanks!!
