Now through July 5th you can get some free eBooks from Barnes & Noble.  The selection includes works by Frederick Douglas, Mark Twain, Thomas Paine, and Edgar Allen Poe, among others.  This would be a great chance to  catch up on reading those books you have always wanted to read!

(thanks Deal Seeking Mom!)

    • Thanks! I just downloaded a number of the classics, hoping to read them and encourage my son to do so as well.

Totally unrelated, but I wanted to post in case it benefits others. I just went to the SoBe Lifewater site (sobe.com) to play their flip the lid game again. First time, I registered at the site and won a B1G1 coupon, which it allowed me to print FOUR times before shutting me out!! This time (about 2 weeks later) I went through the Facebook link instead and again won a B1G1 coupon, which it allowed me to print FIFTEEN times before shutting me out!! Of course, I won’t buy these all in one store so as to not clear the shelves, but I love this stuff! I didn’t know when it would stop so I just kept hitting the “back” button. All of these are “legal” coupons, BTW, because each one generated it’s own unique bar code!! All have 19 of them have 31 August for an expiration date, too, so I have plenty of time to buy them! Couldn’t be more excited!!

Barnes&Nobles put out a DVD or CD several years back in conjunction with an online
company, AOL?, it contained dozens of free ebooks. The Guttenberg project is much

I'm trying to download them, but after I click the “Buy Now” button it says “Done” but doesn't actually download the book to my computer. What am I doing wrong?

      • Umstetter

Look on the left, in the side bar. Go to “My Library” and click on it. Click on the download button and save your books on your hard drive. You will also have to install their free reader. They support Ipad, Ipod, Mac PC and something else, so you have your choice of where you read the books.

When you're done downloading your book, click on the little “archive” button and it will remove it from your library front page, but not from your download file – in case for some reason, you need to download it again.

It's asking for my Credit Card number… but it's supposed to be free :(

      • Kazzandra

Yeah, they're trying to use the freebies as a way to get you signed up for an account. I didn't want to pull out my card so I gave up. You can get these books in free, .pdf format in many places, or use the full text of Project Gutenberg.
