Friday Finals 2/18

This is a last minute Friday Finals for us since we just walked in the door with all these groceries.  I hauled the whole family out to Publix and we made a night of it.

My husband was awesome, he jumped in and took a buggy and did a separate transaction so that we could use (2) $5 off 20 item coupons (they each state limit one per customer).

There is so much this week that is just an awesome price, canned specialty beans for 16¢ ea, free brownies, relish for 10¢, and so much more!  If you can make it this is truly one of the best Publix weekly ads we’ve had in a long time.

Total before sales and coupons: $329.89
Total Spent: $116.33 (we had $50 in gift cards so only $66.33 out of pocket!)
Total Saved: $213.56 or 65%

This trip included $20.33 in produce and $19.26 in meat.

When we were all done the receipt was longer than my oldest child!

Gosh I wish we had a Publix!! I had a great trip to Kroger though!

    • Sue

I love seeing these “Friday Finals” I need to get my act together and post too! I have done very well this week at HT.

    • Kellymoo

I also had a good week at Publix!
Total before sales and coupons: $125.29
      Total Spent: $55.51
      Total Saved: $69.78 or 56%
(I also got some Valentine's Clearance)

    • Laura Krebs

I went to Harris Teeter and spent $82 on $157 worth of groceries. Thanks Jenny!

    • Kim

Total before sales and coupons – $129
Total out of pocket – $66
This is the most i have spent on a weeks grocerys in awhile but I had to buy basics like bread, eggs, meat, produce, and 3 kinds of milk, things I don't have coupons or B1G1 on.

    • Wandalockard

i think that was great, i dont have a publix here im ky. where i live, i wish i did.

    • Housleyvj

went to bilo and bought 4 /5.00 eggs-texas toast2/6.00 and ice cream 2.88 =13.88 + tax out of pocket with tax was only 5.30

    • Heather

I am really pleased with this week! Publix had a great ad and with Harris Teeter doing super doubles… great savings! My total before sales and coupons was $295. After sales and coupons total OOP was $45!!

    • Share with the rest!

I would just like to say that I am an avid couponer and I love a great sale as much as the rest of you, but it is a lot of people like you all who buy 50 Maalox and 100 of the other money makers and leave none for the rest of us!

I'm not talking to everyone here, but I'm tired of going to Publix half-way through the first day of a sale only to find that all the money makers are already gone and the coupon booklets/flyers have been completely wiped out.

      Does anyone else agree???

      • Bee

I find this to be the case every so often–such as with the recent free Reach flossers at Kroger. I try to keep it in perspective, though. I feel SORRY for the person who needs 50 Maalox (Dr visit in order maybe) or who actually gets a secure feeling from having to store 50 of something.

And I really do have enough floss to last quite a while and that's by only taking one of each free deal.

It's like I tell my daughter-Just because someone is old enough to be an adult doesn't actually mean they are…

    • mamatwoboys

Before coupons and in store savings my total was $74.55 and after everything was finished I only paid $14.36. Best trip I have had since starting this whole coupon thing. My sweet mother gave me some coupons and I plan on going back for round two. There were just a few items that I would like a bit more of.:-) Thanks for teaching me how to save for my family. I would like to know how people get stacks of coupons for the same items. That is my next step. Any advice?

    • Wishing we had a Publix! I had traveled to GA last week but that was a slow week. Great finds.

    • kelli

      super slow week for me

      total before sales/coupons: $18.74
      total oop: $.84
      total saved: $17.90 or 95.5%

      total before sales/coupons: $206.32
      total oop: $3.01

saved a total of $225.06 or 98% for the week!

    • Angiebyrd1099

Spent $61 & saved $108 @ HT super doubles. Also received $4 off my next purchase!!!

    • Telitha

Went to Publix and Kroger, got some great deals! Total was $339.22 spent $126.23 SAVED $212.99 a 63% savings!!! woohoo, with all the money I have been saving since the first of the year I was able to buy a deep freezer. (needed the room for all the groceries I have been getting) lol I am now getting some of the women in my office couponing, haha, love it. Thanks so much Jenny!

    • laura

I have shopped at Harris Teeter 3 days this week and my grocries have totaled 320 dollars after saving I paid 70 dollars. Thanks Jenny for all your help. Laura

    • Momma2micah

I got 27 boxes of Muellers Pasta (free) and 2 Borden shredded cheese ( 1.oo each) after coupons. Also went for 2 free Gain dryer sheets and free toothpastes at CVS this week. This will be my fourth week doing coupons and already feeling the pride! Thank u Southern Savers for making it simple!

    • Andrea Cooper25

Can I use a $5/20 items and a $5 off $30 purchase in one transaction?

      • Lilgrldaisy76

Yes. Even though they are store coupons they are different coupons. One is for 20 items and the other is off your total purchase, plus you can use regular vender coupons too. The savings will amaze you.

        • Andrea Cooper25

Is it possible to use more than one of the $5/20 in one transaction if I have 40 of the items?

    • Connie2588

Are Rite Aid coupons considered manufacturer coupons or store coupons? Walgreen's told me they were Rite Aid store coupons and Publix told me they were manufacturer coupons? Anyone?

    • GTjacket

My Harris Teeter runs for the week totaled:

      $40…..saved $160 :)

    • Couponkfrogger98

My first big savings trip!! Spent 43.99 at Publix and saved 92.40!

The kid who rang me up forgot one 2.00 off coupon and I paid full price for one item, so my savings should have been 95.69! I figured I did so well that I didn't want to go back and complain for 3.29.

    • Kristina

I keep seeing everyone with the Sargento Cheese Sticks. I didn't manage to get any cheese! I am thinking that my Publix decided to be sneaky. They have a Publix coupon for Sargento Extra Sharp Cheese – the only variety NOT on sale and they have a coupon for the cheese sticks – also NOT on sale. Did I read the matchups wrong or did my Publix change it?

    • Debra

I went to Publix for just the Italian items and I got 3 other items for my shopping trip. My oop was $8.05 and I saved $42.00 which was great. I wish they would have more deals like this more often and maybe sometime a mexican deal.

    • Igot5ltlboyz

Went to our local Food World, got 2 gain fabric softeners, and 20 (6 packs) of Airheads candy (a treat for our 5 boys) and paid $1.44 oop!!

Went to Publix and spent $50.55 oop and saved $186.

This is such a blessing for my big family. My boys don't know how to act having the name brand cereal and products that I would never buy before, because we just couldn't afford it. Thank you so much, Ms. Jenny and her Helpers!! :)

    • mamacita

This is the first time we have done so well! We got in on the 20 items, plus the 5$ off of 30$, and a variety of other coupons. We came out with 65$ worth of groceries for 34$!! Can't wait for Ingles Triples.

    • Samatia86

Took my youngest son who's married to Harris Teeter yesterday. LOVED seeing his eyes pop out and that BIG beautiful smile of his when he saw the amount owed…. started at $55.00 after coupons $9.00…. HE'S HOOKED! LOL!!!! THANKS JENNY!

      • jessc5

I must need to go back to bed, because I kept reading this as “my youngest son, who's married to Harris Teeter”…..Your son is married to Harris Teeter? LOL! Sorry…going to go take a nap now, obviously I need one!

        • beth

lol I read that the same way at first!

    • debbie

saved 42% at kroger this week. They had some finish power ball tabs on clearance. i picked up couple of boxes of that and i got produce that was on sale. I got $6 back at the register to spend later. whoooohooooo!!

    • malou

I love love love Publix! They ran out of 2 for $4 extra sharp shredded cheddar cheese on my second shopping trip so they let me use the coupons on another type of cheese.

    • Tmroney

My Publix allowed me to use THREE of the $5 of 20 items coupon! I got 20 cans of the vegetables and 20 large tomato sauces and then 20 of the smaller tomato sauce and some tomato paste. I bought all of that stuff in one transaction, because I was afraid of confusion. Then I took it to the car and came back and got my other groceries. I got $75 worth of canned veggies and tomato sauce for $24!! And these were items I use all the time!!

    • sue71

I Spent $0.00 due to $65 in gift cards and saved $140!!! I still have $18 on the gift card as well. If I had not had the gift cards, it still would have only been $47 and that is with $26 of it being needs (Orange juice , milk, eggs, etc) and produce..so awesome week for us!

    • Donna

I had an awesome week this week! I stocked up on cat food at HT since they had super doubles – canned cat food is never really a good deal, but this is about the best it gets, so my oop was higher than it would have been normally, but I got 60 cans, which is enough for 1 month for my 2 kitties!

      Harris Teeter:
      total before sales/coupons: $176.46
      total oop: $43.26
      total saved: $133.34 or 75.6%

      total before sales/coupons: $35.02
      total oop: $6.45
      total saved: $28.57 or 81.6%

      Thanks, Jenny! :)

      Rite Aid:
      total before sales/coupons: $42.92
      total oop: $0.49
      total saved: $42.43 or 98.8%

    • This is the best week that I have ever had at Publix. Bought $234.44 worth of groceries for $77.57. Saved $156.87 ( 67%) I use these items all the time. I really liked the (FREE) Sargento shredded cheese! Also got (2) bottles of 40 count osteo-bi- flex for $3.49 each. Have been wanting and needing to try this! Thank you so much Jenny!!!!

    • Guest

well i can now see why I don't see as many 5 off 20 now. Do we really think Publix is dumb? They are one step ahead. I have the list of coupon books coming out later in the year not going to see as many such a shame. Its like we are people greedy that one 5 off the order not enough.

    • Sandy

Today was my best couponing trip to Publix yet!! I spent $47.01 and saved $125.22!!! This was a 73% savings for me!! I was so pleased especially because I am in FL and do not get the double of 0.50 coupons, so my savings are not usually this low!! I'm loving me some Italian Days :)

Thank you Jenny so much for all you do:)

    • Jen

    • katie

Didn't get to take a picture before the kids starting helping me put away the bags, but I got $160 worth of items for $38! It was my best run yet. My W. Ashley Publix allowed me to use 4 of my $5/$30 coupons in one transaction, even though I had seperated items to do 4 transactions for the coupons. Plus, I chatted up one of the young head cashiers and hopefully made a friend! All and all, a great day!

    • HealthyMom

I'm new to this, so forgive me if this is a dumb question, but it looks like most of the items in the pics above are 100% junk: frozen, breaded, processed “food,” canned good full of BPA and lacking in nutritional value, a ridiculous amount of candy and sugar-coated “cereal.” I understand the desire to save money, but I would never put any of that junk in my body or my family members' bodies. Are there coupons for produce, fresh meats and non-processed foods?

      • Donna

I think ther'es a better way to approach people rather than insulting them and their purchases. You make your own choices for food, just as everyone else does – no need to be rude!

Yes, there are coupons for healthier items out there, but you have to search since they might not be quite as abundant. Visit sites of brands that you prefer and see if they have coupons available. Jenny also has a coupon database on this site that you can search through for various items.

People on this site are amazingly kind and helpful to one another, but you'll find that you'll get a lot more help if you treat everyone else and their choices with the respect that every person deserves.

      • SEM

Every week I use coupons for salad, produce, and lots of organic products. Avocados, oranges, salad, almond milk, granola, almond butter, Food Should Taste Food chips… you name it, there are coupons out there. There are even websites dedicated to solely organic product coupons. If you go to these websites and use the coupon database, you'll quickly find that out. I am like you in that I try no to buy too much processed food and you'll find that you, for obvious reasons, will spend more than some people typically do in the Friday Finals. Jenny does a great job of highlighting produce and organic deals.

To each his own about what they buy at the grocery store. Each person has their own reasons from their items, which is what makes Southern Savers so awesome and unique. It's more than just “junk,” but a community of friends helping each other save money (which I assume is why you visited the site, no?).

      • Kb

You know, even healthy people have to die sometime. I would rather enjoy life, meals and fellowship with friends rather than worry every single time I put something in my mouth if it was organic or not. And, as I'm sure you know, not ALL organic and all natural products are safe. Anyways, just some thoughts. Everything in moderation.

      • Gsmom353

I understand where you are coming from. I try to stock up on produce, meat, and whole wheat bread that is on sale and use my coupons for things like trash bags, cleaners, and personal care items. We still eat “junk” sometimes but the majority of our diet is fresh foods. Good luck.

    • Ctmcdowell

Paid $132.00 including tax – purchased lots of fresh fruit, vegetables and meat. Saved $80.05. My first “couponing” trip to the grocery store! As a side – Winn Dixie has their pork tenderloin b1g1 and each tenderloin has a coupon for a free hormel side dish. Use your $1.00 off coupon and rack up the savings.

    • Lara

      94% Publix Savings!

    • Elegantcandles

Spent $30 saved $66! Love Publix!

    • Lkrawson

Question… new at this still… at Publix they had the buy 20 items and get 5 off… on the same sheet they had a couple of coupons like buy 4 cans and get 1.00 off… I am seeing people are using these alot, I thought you could not use 2 store coupons for the same product along with 2 manf. .. I do know you can use 1 of each. Do some of you just try and see if you can get away with it, how do you know.. I am always scared to try.. Thanks need all the help to get as good as all of you…

    • Mommy2girls41

I didn't have time to spread out my loot this week and take a picture, but I am proud to post my savings. I went to Kroger, Publix, CVS, and Rite Aid along with our little mom and pop grocery store where I have learned to buy my meats. I spent $258 oop buying produce, meats, diapers, etc, etc, etc…..the best part is I saved $219!!! We are set for a while now on most everything we need and use and I have items to donate. As a full time nurse, full time grad student, mommy and wife, I LOVE getting stocked up once a month and then hitting here and there afterward. Thanks Jenny for taking your time out of your day to match up everything for us. It allows me to have more time with family, work, and the school books. :)
