Go to Earth Fare, buy some flowers and get the free organic truffles – they've even put a ribbon on them for you. Tada, a complete gift!

    • sbdugger

I may be mistaken, but I think HEB is only in Texas. Too bad, this is a great deal!

      • I checked – you're right. We need to buy a non-stick pan anyway so I got so excited when I saw this!

    • My favorite Valentine's memory is when my husband gave me a heart necklace and put it around me. :)

    • sabevandagriff

      Unplug the TV.
Put a note on the screen saying,
      “Turn me on instead.”

    • Paul

      Can I order this online??

    • Christine

I'd love to win one of these. My favorite Valentine memory is when my hubby surprised me throughout the day with flowers, chocolates and dinner ready when I got home from work.

    • Probably the most favorite Valentine's Day I ever had was with my 1st husband who died in 2005. He took me to an expensive French restaurant and we ordered an expensive bottle of wine. It was the only time I had a very expensive date.

    • Jennifer

my favorite memory is spending the night in the freezing cold at the beach looking for a place that wasnt slammed. we ended up eating at the crab shack with the bikers. this gift card would be great for hubby- we live in FL but he works in TX & swears by the deals at HEB.

    • AMANDA

For Vday I like to surprise my family with everything heart shaped! This turns out to be inexpensive because i use a cake or brownie mix that i've gotten on sale and frosting! The kids think the cake tastes better because it's heart shaped! Ocassionally i think it's ok to splurge though since we are saving so much with your site! This year surprising hubby with a yummy brisket from HEB!!!!

    • Elizabeth

Last year, I gave my fiance' (now husband)a tool box FILLED with paper hearts. Each one had “I love you because…” on one side and something I love about him on the other. It took him over and hour to read them all.

This year he's getting a pregnancy test with a big plus sign on it and a mug that says “world's best dad.” :)

It's going to be really hard to top these in years to come. :)

      • AWWWW!

      • Kristy

Congrats!!!! Make sure you take a picture of it!! Im sure it will be priceless!!

      • Rachel

        How fun!!!!!!!!!!!

      • Congrats – this sounds gross, but make sure the test is somewhat fresh. I can't remember the brand I used but the reading faded after a couple of hours.

        • Cheryl

make sure to take a picture of the Pos test. Most do fade.

    • brandi

I always shop ahead of time to save money. Last year (after valentine's day) I purchased some cute Valentine books for the kids for only a quarter each. Using your website also has allowed me to save money on gifts this year.

    • lydiaannhejny

my fav vday memory is getting engaged- my (no husband) doesn't really love valentines day but he knew I did so I was totally not expecting it! So exciting!!

Since my friend, and I, already have given our valenetine things that we create through out the years-This year I created a custom piece of art for her (for her valentine) and She (a photographer) made a piece of art for my valentine- we traded and now each have something unique yet still custom for our valentine!-

    • Tonya

My husband proposed the day before Valentine's Day, so it would be more of a surprise (since many people expect a proposal on V Day itself). That was probably my best Valentine's Day.

    • michelleg13

My favorite memory is when my husband (we were dating at the time) lead me on a scavenger hunt of clues leading to my big valentine gife. He had built me a swing and had our names engraved on it….very sweet.

    • Katherine

My favorite Valentine's Day was last year with my daughter (her first Valentine's Day) and my husband, the two people I love the most. I just like being surrounded by the people I love on Valentine's Day.

    • MElissa

My baby was almost one month old on Valentine's Day a few years back. When I got up in the middle of the night to feed him and change him, I noticed he had stuff on him. So I turned on the light and saw the words “movie”, “dinner”, “date with Daddy” and “how 'bout it?” written on the legs, belly, etc. on my baby! I thought it was soooo cute (until I saw that it was written with marker that was NOT washable…..but point for trying, right?)

    • laura

I am saving money by making my own valentine. walgreens has a free photo collage 8 x 10 tomorrow. My fiance proposed on valentines day last year, so I making a collage of our engagement, for free!

    • connieb03

This is my daughter's first Valentine's Day where she's old enough to understand and enjoy the holiday. We had a great time together making cards for her classmates!

    • debbie

Now that my daughter is old enough to color, etc, we do all homemade gifts. Means so much more.

    • Jenni

The first St. Valentine's Day for my husband and I as parents. I wasn't expecting much, because he worked LONG hours back then. I would have been happy with a candy bar from a gas station. He walked in the door with roses, a bottle of sparkling grape juice with curling ribbons tied around it, and chocolate for me, and a bottle of Gerber puffs and a little stuffed kitten with curling ribbons tied around them for our 11 month old daughter!

    • Susan Leah

My favorite Valentine memory just happened! My husband just brought me flowers and guess what ? He used a Teleflora coupon for $10 off and saved the delivery charge by delivering them himself !!! He is definately catching on to this couponing stuff, I am so proud !!!

    • Lynda

We always buy our Valentine's cards after Valentine's Day when they hit 90% off and save them for years to follow. I was able to stock up last year for the next few years. Sure beats having to pay $2.99 per box for each child!

    • Sarah C

I think a way to save would be getting the ingredients to your loved ones favorite meal and just making it at home. You will save money and time not waiting at a restaurant on Valentine's Day :)

    • Michelle

Where can I purchase this? I went to the link but didn't see a place to order. I love those heart-shaped rings! My valentine's savings tips are that I make my own card and usually make homemade cookies or other treats. This year it will be easy because there are a lot of candy coupons (I didn't know about this site last valentine's day)!

    • nancy

Have a Valentine's hunt! Make up some fun kid coupons — good for one game with Dad, good for baking cookies with mom, etc. Put the coupons in plastic bags with a piece of candy and hide them around the house or outside. Tell the kids it's kind of like an Easter egg hunt. :-)

    • stephaniePol

I had a great valentine's day surprise a little over 10 years ago, when my husband, sick with the flu, got down on one knee in a crowded restaurant and proposed! It was so sweet!

    • Julie

A great way to save money would be to make a custom music cd from itunes with both of your favorite romantic songs, get a single (I love you) rose, a bottle of wine or champagne and 9 red Acai (smells great) candles from Glade. Draw a bubble bath and enjoy each other!! Later send the Glade $45 rebate ($15 x 3) in and and save $45 for a movie and dinner later!

      • Julie

But Do NOT forget the card!!! :)

    • Tip: by gifts you know you need for the next year a few days after vday the year before! Like vday cards for you kids to give out at school or plastic flowers and stuff

    • Christina Kelley

Last year I gave my husband a jar with 365 reasons why I love him…One for each day of the year.

    • Jaime Briggs

I remember one Valentine's Day, my boyfriend, now husband, had flown to Texas from school in NY to see me at school. We were in central Texas, where it is always hot and humid even when it's “chilly” and it SNOWED on Valentine's Day! I still have wonderful, sweet pictures from our fun adventures in the snow on Valentine's Day together.

    • Marylee

My birthday is also this weekend and I received my best valentines/birthday gift ever when my little 6 year old daugher told me, as I was putting her to bed last night, that “Mama's were the best things about the family” Can't buy anything sweeter than that!

    • Tori Chauvin

We have a new baby this Valentines day to enjoy!!! we are so blessed
      Tori C.

    • stacy

We've never really celebrated the standard Valentine's Day…but we always have a family night just spending time together.

    • holdgate04

For Valentine's this year, I bought a heart shaped bottle from Michaels ($.99) and 2 pieces of scrap paper ($1). I'm writing love notes on them, rolling them up and placing them in the bottle so when he needs a pick me up, he can pull one little note out. We have 3 little ones, so for VDay we're just having a nice surf and turf dinner at home, when they go to bed.

    • lizb3184

My favorite thing to do on valentines day is to have a nice quiet dinner at home where my husband does all the cooking and dishes.

    • TraciM

I love to help the kids write out their valentine cards to family and also to their classmates. Then before valentines day we get the cookie cutters out and make heart shaped cookies for family and friends. :) Happy V-Day

    • sharonkay83

My favorite Valentines memory is last year my husband had me take alternate routes home from work on a scavenger hunt leading me to various places like one of our first dates, our first apartment together, and a few other places we have been in our relationship building our love stronger and stronger, then leading to our current home. As I walk inside the door, there is a very romantic setting for two at the table with dinner he had made himself! After dinner he watched Dirty Dancing with me (my favorite movie of all time). It was such a nice romantic evening! It will be hard to top that this year!

    • Barb

My husband and I have been married almost 21 years (we married young). Our very first date was on Valentine's Day 23 years ago. On Valentine's Day nearly six years ago, we had our third child, a girl after a wonderful dinner out during which I did not inform anyone I was in labor because I really wanted that last meal before all the hard work. :)

    • Sarah R

9 years ago this Valentine's will be my husband and I's anniversary of our first date. :) Valentine's is special for this reason!

    • Merideth

Wealways have a family night just spending time together.

    • kbroom

My fav valentine with my hubby was the very first one. Not only did he impress me but he also impressed my mom and little sister. It was a rough year and my parents had just been through a nasty divorce. He surprised my mom, sister, and me with a 5 course meal home cooked. Each place setting had flowers for each of us and he had a card and candy for all of us. After dinner we went back to our house but on the way we stopped at our fav. restaraunt and he had arranged for a friend to play songs on his guitar in the courtyard while we enjoyed our champagne….man i love him

    • Kelly

I am rather excited about this Valentine's Day. Last year I had brand new baby (nothing could be better). This year I am just hoping to get tto sleep in. Funny how you idea of romantic changes with time!!!

    • Kristen

We will be using a restaurants.com certificate this Saturday night for our Valentines Date. I bought the certificate when they were 80% off and I have a gift card that I won from a local radio station!

    • Jennifer

For our first Valentine's Day I gave my boyfriend (now husband) a gift certificate to have tips put on his trucks. (You know, those pipes that make trucks really loud.) It was totally out of “my element,” but I was proud of myself for researching it and knowing exactly the kind he would want. He was so suprised!! I think the guys at the mechanic shop got a kick out of it too. I don't think they ever had a request for a “gift certificate” before. :)

    • Anonymous

restaurants.com has GREAT discounts .. I buy them in advance of a special date and use them to great places like Motor Supply! Who doesn’t love a $60 dinner for less than $25!! Woo hoo

    • AngelaDH

My favorite memory is being snowed in a cabin with my parents (their 10th anniversary) and three younger sisters (the youngest was one). The electricity went out so my poor parents had to man the fireplace 24/7. The toilet was even frozen solid. :p We had to wait for Hwy 50 to be reopened from avalanche controls before going home. :) My parents gave us chap stick and hair brushes, combs and mirrors. It was a lot of fun in my opinion! :)

    • Lindsay

We're saving money by having our toddler decorate cards for people. We're also having friends who have no kids babysit while we go out to dinner on a gift card that we've been saving for awhile.

    • KT

Last year I decided to suprise my whole family on Valentines day. So, my husband took our four kids out for the day while I prepared. I decorated the dinning room and served them all a four course candle light meal. Menu was something like: Pink lemonade with red heart icecubes, fruit salad, roast beef, chicken, bread I had dyed with beet juice to make pink, ect. For dessert I brought out a tray of 8 options, and gave them each a whole tray! Then, set the kids up with a movie in the living room, and took my hubby outside to watch a movie in a tent I set up on the trampoline (via laptop). The kids each also got a rose and gift, they still talk about it. This year, Im planning a Fondu Party! For me, Valentines Day is about my family :-)
(My hubby is preparing to deploy so this year is a bit more special, so Im still looking for a few extra ideas….).

    • Kelly

My favorite thing to do for Valentine's Day is visit our local animal shelter. I save for several months all the free or next to free items for animals I accumulate from couponing. The joy I feel from feeding these to the animals warms my heart because I know it may be the only time in their lives someone will ever care enough about them to single them out. Remember our furry friends, please, and give what you can.

    • WynetteC

I received a spade, bucket, and flowers laying inside the bucket from my then fiance. It was totally a homemade type project put together, but it was so thoughtful (and very homemade) it brought me to tears.

    • Emily

A great cheap Valentine's Gift is to write on slips of paper things you admire about your spouse or praises for your spouse along with bible verses or words of encouragement and put them into a huge jar. Set it on the counter and whenever they need a pick me up they can just reacht their hand in! It works really well! HAPPY VANLENTINE'S DAY!

    • Rachel

One year my husband bought me tickets to the ballet – it was Romeo and Juliet. What an awesome surprise that was!

    • When I was in the 2nd grade I was out of school on Valentines Day to have my appendix removed. I was just devastated to be missing such an occassion. The hospital gave me a pink cat (stuffed) that I named valentine and held onto the entire time. My class sent a huge box of valentines cards and candy. I was so happy to see all the cards and get well soon notes. It is one of the best memories I have of other people's kindness.

    • Lori Davidson

This year, we're going to have valentine pancakes and a valentine cake and stay in and watch a movie by the fire. We can't really afford to go out this year, so this is going to be a cheap occassion for us! Thanks for the wonderful site!

    • Kelli Brown

When I was in college and dating my future husband, I worked at a print shop. I made him a ton of paper hearts with sweet messages on them. I hid them around his house and had him go on a hunt to find them! Good – Cheap Fun!!

    • Michelle

Last year, I made at homemade V-day card for my boyfriend, from stuff I have at work. I used colored paper I had here, and the colored pens and highlighters! It saved a few bucks, and I got to make him something from the heart (for free)! ;)

    • sangu07

I bake heart-shaped cookies at home and buy valentines gifts well in advance..

    • TeresaQOCD

should have bought on clearance last year!

    • bonbonella

lt's been a while, but my husband gave me a poem he had written and made a picture book of our oldest son, it made me cry. He surprises me sometimes, with things like this.

    • Amy

We save money by not going out on Valentine's Day. We go either the weekend before or after. Sitters are available and we can get into restaurants much easier!

    • Anita

I'm going to make my own chocolate covered strawberries instead of ordering them from Marble Slab. Yum!

    • kristinafromkennesaw

My favorite Valentine's Day memory every year was that my mom would make me, my sisters, and my father our very own heart-shaped Rice Krispie treat by using a LARGE heart-shaped cake pan with “Happy Valentine's Day” written on it in red icing. We each got our own so that none of us had to share our valentine with anyone else. Now I'm the mother, and I have been carrying on the tradition of making them for my husband and two kids…and even one for myself! And if I'm feeling a bit crazy, I even add red food coloring to the marshmellows to make them pink! LOL

    • Emily

My husband is a terrific husband but when it comes to holidays, well…? So my favorite memory is when I took him on a suprise ski trip (pre-kids). We had such a great time and I enjoyed skiing MUCH better than him. :)

    • melissahodgen

My husband filled my car with treats and balloons.

    • elizabethholcomb

My favorite Valentine memory is spending time in the NICU with my preemie daughter, who passed away 2 weeks later. I will never forget that Valentines.

    • Kelly Hall

We don't really do anything ON Valentines Day for each other. Since having children, the kids and I will make a Valentine for Daddy and he'll probably do the same for me. Instead, my husband often gives me flowers and takes me out a couple weeks before or after Valentines when places arent busy with the holiday crowd.

    • elena

make decorations and made a romantic outdoor picnic

    • LilNavyWife

I think my favorite Valentine's Day memories are about to begin – my husband and I got married in October, so this Sunday we'll celebrate our first one together! :-D

    • irelandsunshine

When my husband and I had only been dating for 2 months, we shared our first Valentine's Day together. I was so excited because I could only imagine the wonderful romantic things he had planned for us. Well, boy was disappointed. For my 1st Valentine's Day, he gave me 2 books and a card. On that day, he found out how much I did NOT like to read! After 12 years together (10 years married), I still pick on him about that 1st Valentine's Day. Now, I get to watch him give our 3 girls each a bouquet of flowers and let them know how much he means to them. Don't worry, I get a bouquet, too! Happy Valentine's Day!

    • I cooked dinner at home one year and I wanted us to eat by candle light. I had a wooden lazy susan so I put tealight candles in the shape of a heart. Dinner went well but the candles got so hot the wooden lazy susan caught in fire on the table. Thank God we got the fire out but I will never forget it nor will my husband let me.

    • Charlie Long

I most rememberable Valentine was when I first met my wife of 20 years. It was at a church valentine party. I remember what she had on. It was a red and white dress with a bow on the side. She was a beautiful woman then and 20 years later she still has the key to my heart

    • jennaatkevinandjennadotcom

Every year is my favorite Valentine's – my parents keep our kids and we make a big dinner for the two of us and serve it on our China that seems to only get used for Valentine's Day! My husband loves to cook and does a fabulous job. Usually on the menu is peppercorn filet mignon, chocolate covered strawberries, salad with homemade vinaigrette, and baked potatoes. And, since we make it ourselves it is much cheaper and much more time efficient than going out. Plus, after dinner we sit on the couch and listen to music, build a fire, and cuddle. :)

[PS – not sure if it will log me in – my email is jenna [at] kevinandjenna [dot] com

    • Sandra

My favorite Valentine's Day was when my husband and I went to see Riverdance for the first time. It was really special because we did not get much time then because my mom-in-law was sick. It was a great get-away and a great show!!!!

    • Marla Casey

I tend to save for next Valentines day by buying the 50-75% off Valentines that are leftover after Valentines day for next year!

    • There have been so many photo deals lately that would make great Valentine's day presents…I've seen some freebies (or close to it) for collages, mousepads, stickers, and keychains.

    • Anonymous

My husband took off 1/2 from work without me knowing and surpised me by taking me out to lunch.

    • Jessica

I LOVE Valentines's Day! I think it all goes back to 3rd grade… My teacher made such a big to do about it. She would have us all decorate our own homemade Valentine boxes, and then have a big Valentine party at school and put valentines in everyones' boxes! There was a prize for the best decorated box. It was so much fun. My teacher's box was the coolest… it made a BUZZZ whenever someone dropped a card inside!

    • Christyandherboys

      Shopping ahead and planning ahead!
whether it's dinner for him or gifts………always think ahead and shop the sales after Christmas! I purchased a new leather wallet for my hubby thanks to you when you told us about the Wilson's leather deal! and I NEVER forget the bag of valentine heart candies that he loves! He usually makes me go again to CVS to get them on sale after Valentines Day!
      Thank you!
      Would LOVE to win!

    • lacey

free card from publix, buy a box of choclates with the 1800 flowers gift credit and make a fancy dinner at home! Cheap and fun valentine's day!

    • Jenni

We're staying in instead of going out.
That saves money plus we don't have to fight the crowds. :)

    • Keisha Hill

Every year I throw a Valentine's Day tea party for my friends and their little girls. My daughters and I have a great time letting our friends know how much we love them. Everyone dresses “fancy”, use real tea cups and tea pots, and have heart-shaped cookies & sandwiches. Each year is different as the girls grow, and we are looking forward to new memories this year.

    • meganclaycohen

I have been thinking and thinking of what to write and i am sad to say I do not have a memory to tell, I have yet to be WOWED on v-day:( but maybe, with enough hints to my husband!lol.. I might just have a story to tell next go round.. thanks for all you do.

    • Abi

This will be my favorite Valentine's to date – because I have my husband returning from Afghanistan very soon!! Happy Valentine's day, babe!

    • Kari

I had been on bedrest for almost three months with my twin daughters. My husband brought home my favorite dinner and decorated the room with a gorgeous vase of roses that he arranged himself. We had “dinner in bed” and spent the night feeling our babies kicks and punches as we talked and sang to them. Our girls were born a week later at 33 weeks gestation.

    • ashley sitdikova

When my husband and I were first dating he did not have alot of money(we were both in college), so I planned a v day suprise by getting a hotel room that was to levels and placing candles on each step up to the bedroom and fixing a steak dinner in the rooms kitchen. I then asked him to meet me at the waterway right next to the hotel. I then blind folded him and led him to our room. It worked we are married 4 years today with a 5 month old baby.

    • Beth

I am a teacher, so one year I had my students help me make cards for my husband. Throughout the days leading up to Valentine's Day, I would hide the cards around our home for him to find. He enjoyed reading the nice notes the children wrote for him (he was a regular guest in our classroom so the children knew him). The last card he got was from me thanking him for being such a great husband.

    • sarah C

One of my favorite ways to save on Valentines gifts is to go shopping the day after valentines when they have marked everything down. I buy up cute gift bags, cards, gift items (not candy!) and save them for next year!

    • cgray515

My family would love the heart shaped pancakes!

    • cgray515

      I would love the gift!

    • Kay Mein

My husband and I had our first Valentine's day date at an ice hockey game- beer, wings prior to the game, and SC Stingrays hockey. My idea; we don't really care for all the marketing that comes with this day, so I wanted to do something special for him and be different. We are happily married now with a 2 yr old. Obviously this unorthodox celebration works for us!

    • Sue

For several years my husband and I worked opposite shifts. One Valentine's Day while I was at work he used mural paper and painted a sign the length of the wall. He painted multiple messages and notes and made me feel very special.

    • MelissaLH

My best/sweetest Valentine's Day was my second date with my husband. I was flattered that he'd drive 3.5 hours to meet me and even more flattered that he asked me out for the next weekend- which meant he not only had to make the drive again, but stay in a hotel, pay for the date… the whole 9 yards! I told him to please not feel obligated to buy me anything since it was only our second date. Well, due to construction and traffic, I was extremely late meeting him and he still waited! He had a whole day planned for us and brought roses and chocolates for me. What girl wouldn't be blown away?? Yes, H-E-B is in Texas, so if I got the prize, I would send it to my momma. :)

    • lkannon

I cut out paper hearts and hung them all over the house for my husband one year!

    • pharmSCgirl

      My tip for V-day:

Use a coupon from restaurant dot com for your special dinner. Although some places may not take them on Holidays, go the day before. There will be less of a crowd and you can enjoy a nice meal for a great price. Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

    • HEB was a big part of our special 'family Vantine's Day' last year. My husband and I always used to go out to a nice restaurant alone for dinner, and still used a sitter for a few years after our son was born. But last year, we decided to celebrate at home together on Valentine's Day, a Saturday, with our then 5 year old son and 16 month old toddler.

We started the morning with heart-shaped french toast, and I made a strawberry-maple syrup to have something red & sweet on top. Lunchtime was heart-shaped sandwiches, and later we had an afternoon snack of fruit dipped in melted chocolate. But, for dinner we went all out with a more indulgent meal that I cooked at home – filet mignon with baby portabellos in a wine sauce, roasted asparagus with pickle relish, baked potatoes and salad. We had a bottle of wine and toasted each other. Dessert was creme brulee and chocolate covered tuxedo strawberries from HEB.

I'm menu planning for this weekend to try and repeat that awesome day!

We always go to a Charity event for Valentines Day- feels good to give back to the community instead of getting gifts that we don't need. Isn't that what true love is supposed to be anyway?

While my husband was still in college I was living in a different city during valentines day and couldn't be with him. I couldn't tihnk of what to get a college guy that wouldn't embarass him around his buddies.

I called papa johns and ordered two pep pizza's. One had the pep in the shape of a heart and the other said luv you!

He was quite surprised and enjoyed the pizza :)

My favorite Valentine's Day ever has to be the one when my husband proposed to me!
We met at an online bible study (he lived in Maryland, I was in Florida) and had only met in person once when he came down for a visit over Valentine's Day. We both knew we were totally in love, but he wanted to talk to my dad before he 'officially' asked me to marry him. However, a walk on the beach that evening with the full moon shining was too much and he couldn't resist :-). I said “yes, if daddy says ok” lol. We got married the following February and are going on our 22nd anniversary this weekend.

HEB also has this week Jennie O Turkey Franks for $.79. If you buy 2 and use the $1/2 q from the 1/3 Smart source, they are only $.29 each pack. Paired with that $.24 Kraft Mac and cheese from WAGS 2 weeks ago makes a pretty cheap meal!!

My husband and I were remembering one Valentine's Day in college when we had a HUGE icestorm at the University of Illinois. They had only closed the school twice, I think, in it's whole history, but they shut down that day. It was so beautiful to walk and see the ice on every tree branch and bush. We were remembering this because it is snowing in Alabama, something that also never happens!! (we will be moving to the great state of Texas with the Air Force this summer, so I can use the HEB card!)

My daughter and I made all our Valentine's this year out of construction paper. Cost $1 for the construction paper, with a lot of colors left over.
