Performance Bicycle, the nations #1 specialty bike retailer has just released their own line of kids bicycles.  The new line has everything from tricycles to balance bikes, to mountain bikes.   The bicycles feature high quality parts, a durable aluminum wheel set with 36 spokes, and Kenda tires for road or trail biking.

There are a few awesome features of the new kids bike line up:

  1. They come fully assembled!  It’s a big box but imagine no hassle of trying to put it together quietly the night before Christmas…
  2. They have a “Grow Up with Performance Guarantee” that gives you discounts on future bikes as your kids outgrow their current bike.

Performance wants to give you everything they need to find the right bike for your kids. A complete kids bike sizing chart and a fun, fitness and safety coloring book are available for download to help.

Check out the full kids line up and see what’s a good fit for your kids.  (I just spent time looking through everything and even found a few bikes 50% off!)

    36. Cayman says:

I thought I was old enough to ride a bike without training wheels…so my dad took them off. I rode in the neighbor's driveway which was nothing but gravel. I fell and skinned up my knee, and I'm now 30 and still have gravel in my knee to this day.

    37. albert_the_gator says:

I was 5 years old when I got my first bike as a Christmas present. I proceeded to wreck myself several times (on the trash cans). A few scratched knees and scraped hands definitely did not stop me from biking all the time!

    38. dks says:

I remember when my dad had me on the back of his bike riding through a State Park in one of those little seats and he went off the edge of the road and crashed. All of the state park rangers came and helped us, we were both totally fine, we still joke about it to this day.

I don't remember what age I was when I rode them but I had an awesome red tricycle and a totally cool pink bike with streamers and pegs on the wheels that I first used with training wheels but got to keep for a long time after that. We had to get rid of the bike when our new puppy completely ate apart the foam handles and seat (probably both tires too!)

    43. Jeffandashley says:

    45. Blairford says:

I think I was 7 or 8. My dad pushed my bike up and down the sidewalk over and over with me trying to learn to balance but I just couldn't get it. Finally, my dad exhausted, we went back home. When we got back to our yard my mom was outside and gave me a shove across our grassy lawn – and I got it immediately!

    46. Watkinsl says:

I got my first bike when I was 8 yrs. old.

    47. Lisa M says:

I was afraid to try, so when I was 10 years old, my big brother and mom helped me get started and I just took off. Afterwards, felt silly that I was fearful when it was so easy. Too bad I waited so long. Now, one of my favorite exercises is biking (especially in spin class). :)

    48. Pam says:

I was 10 yrs old when Iearned to ride a bike. I was adopted and my adopted family didn't have a lot of money so my first bike was a used one. However, I took good care of it and rode it like there was no tomorrow. When I was 16, I finally got my first brand new bike. I was just as excited as when I got my first car.

    62. EMOM says:

Funny story… I think it was my 12th birthday when I really wanted a 10speed. My younger sister had recieved a Schwinn a few months earlier so I was expecting that being a very brand concious preteen. When I saw the Free Spirit (Sears house brand) on the morning of my birthday, I was furious. I threw a complete temper tantrum and learned later that the bike I recieved cost about twice the one my sister had recieved (her's was a display model and they purchased it at a major discount). I certainly learned my lesson and to this day am completely horrified at my behavior that day!

    63. Berea Mom says:

I don't remember how old I was when I first got a bike, but I do remember riding it many times and we used to put on bike parade shows for my parents. What fun memories.

We both realized at the same time that he never taught me to stop!!! :)

I rode my first bike without training wheels when I was 6. My dad was running up and down the side walk with me making sure I didn't fall. Instead of falling I ran into a tree! Me and my sisters would ride up and down the sidewalk for hours. I thought I had the coolest bike ever because I had a radio built right into the handle bars. The funny thing is I could hardly ever get a station on it and when I actual could hear somewhat of a song I would blast with a big smile on my face with my shimmering streamers flying in the breeze. :) Ooo.. and those things that you put on your spokes were so cool. Mine were glow in the dark but I never rode in the dark so I don't know what the purpose of that was!

My son asked for a bike for Christmas last week. I already finished with his Christmas shopping and spent his limit that me and my dh agreed on so I wasn't going to get him one. This would really make his Christmas.

My Granddaddy gave me a bike that he fixed up for my 6th birthday. I lived out in the country and our yard had a small hill where I would get on my “new” bike and roll down the hill, learning to balance. Well, at the bottom of the hill was a large rose bush. After one or two times of running into that rose bush you learned to steer clear and pedal past.

It was Christmas morning. I was seven, and my sister was five. We'd opened everything, and then my parents pointed out something on the far side of the room that we hadn't noticed. There was something big with a sheet draped over it–a bike for each of us! We were ecstatic. They both had training wheels, and I know that mine came off before hers did, but I don't remember how long that was for either of us. Anyway, it's an awesome Christmas gift!

I was 5 when I learned to ride a bike. My brother kept making me crash when I was learning so when he was riding, I got a stick and stuck it in his spokes. Needless to say, it made his bike stop and he flew over the handlebars mouth first into our mailbox. Chipped his front 2 teeth. Still has caps today thanks to me. Whoops! I promise I don't do stuff like that these days! LOL

    134. Aeflockhart says:

I was 4 on my little red BMX bike. My 6 year old brother worked off the training wheels and convinced me to try w/o them. I climbed on and before i knew what was happening I was flying down our very steep driveway into the very steep street headed toward the very deep ditch. I peddled my little heart out to avoid the ditch as my brother ran for his life in the opposite direction. (He knew that if I crashed, he would really get in trouble for pushing me.) From that point on I was a 2 wheel rider.

    142. Dancinhat says:

My sister was 8 and I was 6, our family moved from Texas to Indiana, someone left two of the old style Cruiser bikes at the house we moved to and they were still in great shape. We were on the small side for our age and the only way either of us could ride would be standing up on the pedals which meant we could not walk or run to get started. The house was on a large hill with a busy road at the bottom. My sister convinced me she could ride the bike and I could go with her on the handle bars. So, off we went down the hill her steering like a drunk driver and me on the handle bars hanging on for dear life. We knew that when we got to the bottom of the hill we would have to turn sharply to stay in the yard and not go into the road, which she did, slinging me off of the handle bars and promptly running over me. I was not seriously injured and it is something I still tease her about today. That is how we learned to ride bikes and we became quite the experts at bailing at the bottom of the hill. The old bikes truly took a beating from two little girls. As my son would say “Good times.”. LOL! Ironically if I win, since my children are grown this would be for her daughter who is 7.

I was 6 or 7 and my brother decided it was 'time'…so he removed the training wheels off of my puke green and black bike that had a GIANT banana seat and 'monkey bars' handle bars….we worked and worked all day going up and down the VERY uneven sidewalk but I eventually got the hang of it!!! Of course things would've been easier (and safer) if my bike would've had brakes!!

    160. MicheZeren says:

I was 18 when I learned to ride-I got my bike to get around from my apartment to my dorm at college. Since I had not grown up with bikes, needless to say, I was not very good.

One day, while riding back from campus, I got going too fast down a hill and as I tried to slow down, instead ended up hitting one of the wires that anchors out from a light pole. I gave quite the performance for anyone parked at that intersection, because I went straight over my handlebars, hit the wire, and flipped. Thankfully, I had all my protective gear on and only ended up with a nasty bruise on my leg and ego.

Needless to say, my kids are already starting on bikes so they can grow up to be confident bike riders. My oldest is about to turn 7 and is outgrowing the bike he has…I would LOVE to win a bigger size for him; especially since every next size would be discounted, too!

    161. V says:

I learned to ride a bike when I was 6, and cannot wait to teach my little girl how to ride her first bike!! When I was small, my parents tied all our bikes together and left only a little tiny one out that had a crooked front wheel from getting run over a time or two. When my older sister got mad and wanted to “run away” she had only one option. It was hilarious to see her trying to run away on that little tiny bike with the crooked wheel pulling her left to right. ha!

Since I didn't know how to stop the bike, i jumped for dear life as the bike crashed into the big drainage ditch! Scary for a little kid, but funny to think back on now! LOL!

Spent the evening in the ER, and my nail never grew back. :( but I STILL love to ride, especially with my kids!

Now I love cycling and love to share my transformation with other “banana-seat flunkies!”

I was abt 4 or 5 when I learned how to ride a bike. My husband is the youngest of 4 kids, Boy, 2 girls then him. Anyway, his oldest sister was trying to teach him how to ride a bike, well she told / showed him everything about riding a bike, except how to stop it! He goes riding down the sidewalk on a hill with tree branch looming in front of him. He says he was yelling at her to help him, she was yelling at him to stop the bike, he in turn says I would if you had told me how. Needless to say he connected with the branch, and the sidewalk connected with his behind..

I was around 5 with I learned to ride a bike….Funny story….A couple of years ago I was in Amsterdam and wanted to rent a bike to get around. Well I hadn't been on a bike in YEARS. Anyway I was trying to get on the thing and I was going good until the front tire sliped into a street trolly track. (I was actaully riding where I wasn't susposed to) When this happened I was thrown off the bike and crashed into a local. I didn't have to know the launguage to know what he said wasn't a compliment and buy far didn't find this mishap as funny as my husband and I did as I laid sprawled out on the ground unable to get up due to laughing so hard.

we had hills on either side of our driveway – they were the best bike riding hills because they were not too steep but fast enough to get a thrill. Once I realized she was not terminally hurt, we laughed until we cried. Famous last words…

(he said since he had a scooter, he could just ride it and the little boy could have his bike.) So of course we told him that he could give it to the little boy, and we were soooooo proud that he wanted to do something so sweet! How many children would do that?! So now, he has no bike, but happily rides his scooter, and he would like a new bike.

I was 7, and my father taught me how to ride. Every night for a couple of months he would come home from work and we would practice. He would run along side me with his hand on the seat so I wouldn't fall, but I just couldn't seem to get the hang of it on my own. He had to go out of town to a convention for a couple of days, and while he was gone, it suddenly just clicked and I started riding on my own! I still remember waiting for him to pull into the driveway on the day he was due home, full of anticipation of how proud he would be when he saw! I set my bike up so that it looked like I had my training wheels on, but really they were only leaning on either side of it. I got on my bike, started down the driveway, and the training wheels fell to the ground. My Dad was shocked and so happy! I will never forget that moment!

    317. Adriane says:

I learned to ride without training wheels in a quiet cul-de-sac in Ames, Iowa. I was 5. Once confident that I was doing great, my parents went back inside. I rode and played with friends for what seemed like hours. Then I was heading right for an electrical transformer and totally forgot how to use the brakes. I skinned myself from head to toe. My mom came running out to get me wearing a white dress. i don't think it ever came clean but she didn't hesitate to scoop me up.

My husband did and then he just hoped on the bike and began riding like he'd always known how. My husband called me outside to watch him, and sure enough he never missed a beat. That is until I got the video camera out. He was watching and talking to me and then he drove straight into the grill! But he got right back up and began riding again.

Well, this memory is imprinted in my head. I was 6 years old when my parents decided to let me try my bicycle without training wheels. We lived in upstate NY and our house was out in the country up on a hill. We had a dirt driveway, they let me practice up and down the road and I was getting good. They decided that I was good to go on my own. I went to the top of the driveway and got going down the driveway and could not stop. I went down as fast as a could (out of control) of course….right across the road and into the barb-wired fence. It is not a pleasant memory. But, one that I will never forget!

The next day after learning I went on a bike ride with my older sister and I thought I was cool….well needless to say I ran into a parked car….scratch the car all the way down the left side with my bicycle handled and I broke all 5 of my fingers. I was balling my eyes out and I just knew the owners of the car were going to be mad and I was scared to go tell my parents. My sister knocked on the peoples door (no one was home) we went home told my mom, went to doctors (fingers were all broke) and we went to the ladies house and she was home. My mom made me go up and tell her what happen and of course I was balling my eyes out the lady was so sweet comforting me and said I have been wanting my husband to get ride of this car forever now so I owe you a big thank you. She went into her closet got this big bag out and gave it to me….it had bubbles, jump ropes, outside toys, and a kmart gift card. She said honey I sure hope this makes you feel better. She would not let my parents pay for the damages.

    499. Kschmitz77 says:

I remember learning to ride without training wheels. My Dad was running along side holding the back of the seat and would let go after I was going for a bit. I would yell, 'Don't let go!” Dad said, “You can do it, just pedal!” Me, “No I can't!” ~CrAsH!~ Me, “See! I told you I couldn't!” Many skinned knees later I conquered it of course. I love “teaching” my kids the same way. My son would love a new bike!

I have no idea how old I was…it's been a few decades. I will share though that I must have been an extremely clumsy child. I seemed to always have huge scrapes/scabs on both knees and almost every childhood photo that exposes my knees are proof of this.

I learned when I was 6, at least without training wheels, with my brand new blue bike with the basket on front I got for Christmas. I got going fine, with a little help from my Dad, and took off around the block (we lived in a very rural area where that was less of a nutty thing to do than it sounds). I tried out turning, slowing down with the “back pedal” break, etc. I did great! I was feeling so big! Right up until I got back to the garage, and realized I didn't know how to get off this thing. I ran it straight into my Dad's workbench. Luckily, both me and the bike were fine.

My son at age 4 decided he was ready to have the training wheels off his bike. It was a nice day outside and I was reading a book while he was playing. He asked me to take the wheels off, but I told him he would have to wait for dad. I continued to read my book and 5 minutes later he had found the tool he needed and had proceeded to remove the training wheels himself. He hoped on the bike and after just a couple of tries he was riding without any problem. I would like the boys bike for a family in need that our church is sponsoring.

    656. Christy says:

I taught my little sister to ride her bike and I don't think I did a very good job. We were out practicing and she started riding well way ahead of me. Then she forgot to stear and ran into a huge pile of branches on the side of the road. She cried all the way home and I felt terrible.

i learned to ride at age four.

For my10th birthday, I got a 10-speed bike. I was riding it and looking down at my feet pedal as I changed gears. I ran right into a parked car! My front tire was shaped like an egg. I was pushing the bike home, holding up the front wheel, thinking about how much trouble I was in (and pain!) and along came my dad. Uh oh! He got out of his car, put my bike in the trunk and drove me home, without saying a word. The next day, a new bike, exactly like the one I wrecked, was in the carport. :)

    665. Angelkyliesmommy says:

I was 6- the summer before first grade- and I got the bike riding part down pat, but when it came to braking, well not so much- Our driveway was a little hill, and there were trees at the end, across a little road. My dad gave me a push, I panicked at the end of the ride, so I reached out and grabbed the tree because i couldn't brake… and the bike went flying, and I scraped up my arms and face from spinning around the tree…

    666. Sands143 says:

I didn't even see it until my mom asked me if I noticed anything and had to go back. Teenagers….

One morning as we were zipping along together I told him, “Don't let go!” and responded, “I already did!” I was riding my bike by myself and didn't even know that. I don't remember how old I was when I learned to ride a bike. But my husband is a bicycle fanatic, and made sure both of our boys could ride bikes very well by the time they were 3 at the oldest. No training wheels – no way. :) He insists every kid must be able to ride a bike. I'm glad he did it because it's great having kids so comfortable on their bikes as they get older. I'd so love to win this because my hubby also insists on getting the “good” bikes; no Walmart/Huffy or any other comparable bikes like that allowed. And they “good” bikes are SO expensive. My youngest son needs the next size up bike so badly, but it's so expensive we still can't get it yet.

Well, I had an overprotective father and we were not allowed to ride bikes for fear we would get killed. So I sneaked and rode a big kids 10 speed when I was about 8 and low and behold I fell off and chipped my front tooth. Being the youngest of 11 children we did not have dental insurance so my older brother was kind enough to pay for the dentist so I did not have to tell “daddy”. Wheww, thanks Buddy. It could have been alot worse if dad would have found out.

My daughter would love the girls bike.

    852. Strevino1 says:

I started riding a bicycle with training wheels at 5. The plastic wheels made it hard to push the pedals so my father took them off. One day in the summer, he stood next to me, he held one hand on the seat and the other on the handle bar. He attempted three or four times until I finally got the hang of it. Each attempt was a wobbly start that ended in disaster (I turned too much to the right and hit a ditch). The third or fourth attempt was success I was able to pedal harder and didn't turn my handle bar to far to the left or right. I loved my bike and went everywhere with it. I hope to teach my 5 year old how to ride a bike when I am able to get one for her.

Mom walked out the front door just in time to see the push and ultimately the crash. Dad got chewed out but it worked out well. I learned to ride a bike when I was 6. My brother and daddy taught me. I will never forget them “holding on”. As soon as I realized they had let go, I crashed! : ) The good news was they convinced me to get right back on and do it again. It is a wonderful memory.

I can't remember how old I was when I learned to ride a bike, but it was quite a long time ago :) The only bike I remember was a 10 speed and I didn't like it because it was brown and orange and all the other kids had fun colors and types of bikes. I survived the awkwardness, though :)

My daughter loves this story…when I wanted to learn to ride my bike without training wheels, I was very excited. My dad took the training wheels off and the family gathered to watch as I pushed off to ride my bike. I was doing great and went around the whole circle, only to realize that no one had told me how to brake! As I came in to my original starting point the only way I knew to stop was to lean over and I fell promptly into a sticker bush! Owww! The good thing is that I got right back up and tried again-with proper braking instructions!

Would love for my girl to have her first big bike!]

I learned to ride a bike when I was around 6 years old. We had just moved to our new neighborhood and all the other kids would be out riding their bikes, so I learned to ride and that's how I made new friends! The only thing was that I didn't know how to use the breaks… I would fall off to stop, which meant plenty of scratched knees!! My mom use to laugh because she said she would just see my feet sticking out of a bush from where I had rode into it to stop. She finally threatened me with wearing jeans when I rode my bike (so I wouldn't scratch up my knees). I quickly learned how to use the breaks because jeans in an Alabama summer is not fun!

I have a funny story to tell now but not so funny at the time. My family and I Labor Day weekend packed the camper with bikes on back and headed North for a short vacation. Well about 2 hours into our trip this nice couple drove up next to us and started trying to get us to stop. Well long story short the reason they were trying to get our attention is because we had lost our bikes about a mile back. Once we got our truck and camper turned around we found we had not only lost our bikes, bike rack, but also the bumper to the camper. Needless to say all of our bikes were destroyed so my 6 year old little girl could use a new bike.

I got it for Christmas and every day I would prop my bike up against a old post that we had used in the garden, until I could climb on and then I would take off. We had a row of hedges and I would run into them everytime. But I didn't give up. I finally quit running into the hedges and learned how to ride it. Then I taught my younger sister how to ride and tried to teach my Mom. You know she's 68 years old and she still can't ride a bike by herself. My dad bought a bicycle built for two and then she could ride with someone else balancing it.Those are really great memories.

I don't remember how old I was when I learned to ride but my daughter was 3 when she took her training wheels off and didn't fall once. It was the craziest thing watching her ride the bike for the first time like that. She is 5 now and says she wants to be a BMX rider.

    1147. pw813 says:

I dont remember how old I was when I learned to ride a bicycle but do remember teaching my son to ride when he was about 5. We stood at the top of a hill, he mounted his bike as I steady it. When he was ready I gave the bike a small push and off he went. I didnt consider the chain link fence that was at the end of the street and never had instructed my son on how to use the brakes. Upon realization that the fence was there I started yelling, peddle backwards, peddle backwards but it was too late. My son crashed face first right into the fence. I went running after him to check on him only to have him throw his bike to the ground and stomp off mad at me. His ego was hurt more than his face.

He had to rush me home and hose me down to get the ants off. Thankfully it was summertime, so that worked out well. I hope it goes more smoothly for my kids! :)

I was five years old when I learned to ride a bike. But my best memory of bikes is telling my first child that taking off the training wheels was going to be very hard and she would fall a lot of times. I told her the whole spill about how you will just get back on and try again and that is like life.. blah blah.. Well, to make a long story short, she said, “Just let go mommy.” I did, and she never fell. She road to the end of the street and came back with a smug look on her face. Boy, there went my theory!

I was 6 years old when my dad taught me how to ride a bike. The only thing he forgot was how to use the brakes! I headed straight down a durt hill and straight toward the railroad tracks! I screamed and my dad yelled for me to jump off. So I did. I still have the scars on my knees!

Wow this is such a touching topic for us. Our daughter was diagnosed with PDD-NOS an autism spectrum disorder when she was 3 and a half years old. We felt we would never get to know her as she had no speech and no eye contact. Her friends were beginning to ride trikes and big wheels. She didn't have the motor control to be able to keep up with them. It broke our hearts. We are so proud of how far she has come. Today she is 7 years old. She communicates, has eye contact and can ride a bike with training wheels. We'd love to present her with this bicycle for her 8th birthday and encourage her to challenge herself to ride it without the training wheels.

    1224. Aleoxmom says:

I learned to ride a bike at around 3. My family is big on biking and we have taken a lot of biking holidays together over the years. My favorite biking memory is one when we as a family biked across Italy for a month. There were lots of funny incidents during that trip including one where my dad fell in love with a very expensive bike from his favorite manufacturer and haggled with the sales person for 3 days(we had to go back to have a discussion everyday for 3 days!!) and in the end offered our services at a parade(the company was sponsoring) in order to get a discount(we were not too happy to have our vacation interrupted). Now looking back, all those memories only encourage me to inspire a love of biking in my boys.

    1329. D8 says:

When I was seven years old, I wanted a pink bicycle with a banana seat. I didn't get the banana seat, but I did get a beautiful pink bicycle with pink and purple flowers on the seat. I loved that bicycle. In learning to ride it, I wobbled my way around a dirt drive in our yard. With the exception of one bicycle memory, most are happy. One of our cats did not move when I was learning to ride and I ran over him. He was ok, but I was sad. Though I had not fallen, I had to learn to get back on. And, after much loving on the kitty, I did! :)

I was 10 when I first learned to ride a bike. We moved a few months before I turned 10, and previous to that, we hadn't lived in a neighborhood, just a house on a street which was fairly busy. Our house was only 4 houses (up-hill) from the cul de sac at the end of our street, and I spent countless hours coasting down that hill then trekking my way back up.

    1364. Kelly says:

A friend's brother once “fixed” the tire on my bike. I went over a bump, the tire fell off, and I had to walk home with a bloody knee while pushing this bike with only one wheel!

    1369. Doreen says:

Gosh! I don't remember how old I was, but I remember my Daddy helping me by holding onto the back of the seat as I peddled down the the dirt driveway (no training wheels). It was when I was down the driveway that he told me he was no longer holding on, and indeed he wasn't – I was doing it all by myself!! Thanks for the chance to win!

    1370. Fivevalentines says:

I was 6, and all I remember is my oldest cousin saying he would hold the back while I rode, and next thing I knew he wasn't. I made it a little while before crashing.

    1371. Joyceyork12 says:

I was seven, on my cousin's hand-me-down and could barely touch the pedals. Had a long driveway, though, so got to ride and practice a lot. Loved it and miss riding even today.

    1372. Aawest0 says:

    1374. Slwaldroup2001 says:

I never was able to ride my bike w/o training wheels till I was 10 yrs old. But one day I decided to try and took my wheels off and we lived on a hill and our driveway went straightdown that hill. So off i went down my drive on a busy street and didn't turn the wheel and hit my across the streets rail road tiles and flipped over. Nothing hurt but that was before helmets. I wasn't too thrilled to get back on my bike for a while.

Let me tell you, that is one quick way to learn to pedal on your own!!

    1394. Netniki says:

My dad was holding on to the back of my banana seat (remember those?) and he let go before I was ready. I cut it hard to the right and lost my balance. I landed right smack dab in the middle of a blackberry patch. I was like Brer' Rabbit in the patch crying and howling at the top of my lungs. I am pretty sure that my dad turned that duty over to my mother after the drama of that day! Thankfully, I caught on soon after that!

I learned to ride (sort of) when I was about nine years old. I was visiting a friends house and she decided to teach me. I still have a scar on my leg from the inevitable crash that happened-luckinly her mom was a nurse so she patched me right up. I would love a girl bike for my almost six year old!

Learning the freedom of balance from training wheels is fantastic. The first time Mom let go and I steadied myself on two wheels, I kept going to the end of the block.

I think I was about 7 years old,my dad taught me how to ride without training wheels. He would hold onto the back of my bike helping me balance, but then he would let go every so often. When he did this, I would turn my head around to see if he was still holding on my bike but I would lose my balance and fall off my bike. After about a week, I finally got it and could do it by myself. This is a great memory I have of my dad and now he is teaching my 7 year old son how to ride his bike.

Well I don't remember how old I was when I finally learned to ride. I just remember the hand me down bike my cousins gave to me one Christmas. It was a bright yellow Bumble Bee Bike with a yellow and black banana seat. WOW! I still get excited when I think of all the ramps we would build and jump. Oh and the dirt roads, creek beds, and sliding tires we used to do. To bad we had to grow up!

    1522. LE says:

I remember one Christmas, when I was about 7-8 years old . . . my sweet Uncle bought me a Strawberry Shortcake bicycle. It had the long banana seat and tall handlebars! My Mom took a picture of my reaction as I was told to go out into the front room of my Grandmother's home (where we celebrated our Christmas together as a family) and there was my brand new bike sitting and just waiting for me!!! I was SO excited that I wanted to go out and ride it then!! (We opened our presents after midnight on Christmas Eve, so needless to say, I had to wait until the “next day” to ride my new bike.)

oh such a funny story I have ..I was SO scared to ride my bike cried and screamed every time my Dad tried to teach me! He would run behind me and I would cry and cry, I did not start riding alone until I was 7!!! But my poor younger sister…I decided I would teach her to ride (even though I was to scared to do it). I pushed her down a BIG hill and told her to start peddling!! (boy was I mad when she was riding before me..ha ha!!). We still laugh about that today 25 years later!!

I don't know how old I was when I first learned to ride a bike, but I was 20 when I learned to ride a bike for the second time. My then boyfriend (now husband) convinced me mountain bike riding would be a fun activity for us to do together. He took me to buy a bike, and we hit what he called an “easy route.” After flying over the handlebars, running over a live snake, and crashing into a bush with prickly leaves, I realize that the old adage “it's like riding a bicycle…you never forget how” is serioulsy misleading. One CAN forget how to ride a bicycle. :)
