    • Anyone know if Ingles allows coupon overage? I still have a few of the $2/1 Mayfield coupons, which expire tomorrow . . .

      • Kim

I found out the hard way last week that at Ingles, they do not allow overage. I had gotten overage there in the past, but this past week I had a Q that would have gotten me 35 cents overage and the manager treated me like I was shoplifting. I apologized and let him know that I had been doing this all along and asked him to please explain their policy on using a Q with a higher value than the product because I was frustrated that the rules always seem to be changing. Instead of answering my question, he demanded to know what cashier had been doing that and acted like a huge jerk, huffing at me and insisting that I “was not about to get an extra 35 cents off of something else”. I even said to him that all I was asking was a simple yes or no question about using a Q with a higher value- even the lady behind me was saying “sir, you didn’t answer her question…” needless to say I was MORTIFIED by his behavior.

Upon returning home, I phoned Ingles corporate office to talk to them about this guy. They were very apologetic, but did inform me that you are not able to use a Q in this way, and they are not even supposed to adjust it down to the price of the item.

In any case, I will not be shopping at Ingles again. I have been couponing for over a year and I have NEVER had anything close to an incident like that. All I can say is they must have alot of scammers coming into that store trying to pull alot of bull with Q’s. Has anyone else ever had something like this go on? Honestly, I am too embarassed to ever shop there again. :(

        • Carol

Hmmm…That’s interesting. I’ve never encountered a problem like that at Ingles. As far as overage goes, this is what I have done at Ingles and have had no problem: If I have 5 coupons for $1 off a particular product (for example the J and J baby product Q), and I decide to buy the bath buddies which are .99, I either buy 6 OR get 4 bath buddies and one other J and J product (like the small baby powder) which is slightly more than the coupon and covers the overage. I have never had a problem doing this. I have a very good relationship with my Ingles and try to be honest and ask before I do something like this. They have had no problem with me doing this.

        • Wow. I’ve only shopped at Ingles once before (a great deal two weeks ago), and was not planning on branching out to start shopping there on a regular basis. But these kinds of attitudes reaffirm that decision! It’s not our fault the store discounts an item below the value of the coupon.

        • lee

Please don’t let one jerk stop you from shopping there… they have TRIPLE COUPONS four times a yr.That when you check out and LOL all the way to the car…

          • Carol

I agree. Not all Ingles are bad. Mine is very friendly. It is not my favorite store for deals, but there are some good deals to be found. Don’t miss out just because of one bad experience.

            • Kim

I figured the guy must be off his meds or something but even after a few days to think it over I really doubt I will ever shop there again unless there’s a screaming deal or triples. After my call to corporate I was supposed to receive a follow up call from his District Manager, which never happened, so that tells pretty much all I need to know about Ingles. I know I was polite, courteous and earnestly apologized for misunderstanding their policy. You can see from Carol’s post the “rules” vary from store to store, week to week, cashier to cashier which I find frustrating. That’s OK, because I am sure Harris Teeter will happily accept my money and their 8 cents for every coupon I redeem! :)

        • Rebecca

You should really send a follow up e-mail. I sent an e-mail about 5 years ago, and got a really big sorry (I think $10- or $15- gift certificate to use in-store) the last time I had trouble with a checker in our old neighborhood’s store. They really listened to my complaint! Maybe you could try scanning your Ingles card at the end next time. That’s what I ALWAYS do. Then the savings comes off at the end, and the full value of the coupon comes off without any intervention from any managers or checkers. We have self check-out at all of the Ingles stores around here, so I can do that without consulting anyone. Our old Ingles store didn’t have self check out, and I’d just tell the checker that I liked to see the before and after totals. HTH!!!

    • Ishmaliky

Where did you get the coupon? I would love to get one. In the past, they have adjusted the price in the register for me, but I notice customer service depends on location, location, location..its worth a try!

      • I found them on ebay. ;-) I’m not sure which inserts they were in, because they weren’t in mine and I get the AJC!

    • Adele

There is a .75 coupon/2 off the Betty Crocker Brownie Mix. I think they were at BettyCrocker.com?

And there are supposed to be $2 Catalina’s printing when you purchase 4 Pillsbury bread products, that would make the cresent rolls free with the $2/.50 and then the $2 Catalina.

And finally, Publix has blinkies for .75/2 Mckenzie’s corn. That would make it .56 each.

      HTH someone

      • Carol

        I bought 6 and got a $4 catalina.

      • Carol

The Ingles where I shop has the .75/2 coupons for the corn on the freezer door.

    • Carol

I spent $10.22 today for $85.40 worth of groceries at Ingles! This was done in 7 transactions where I kept rolling the $4 pillsbury catalinas! I bought 12 cans of cinnamon rolls, 12 crecent rolls, 2 bags of flour, over 5 pounds of ground chuck, 3 pounds of chicken, 9 bags of ramen noodles, one can of spaghetti sauce, toilet paper, freezer bags, and 16 chubs of frozen corn. I never do this good at Ingles usually. Just an encouragement that it can be done. (Of course my Ingles is very coupon friendly!)
