      I ordered a valance for my daughter's room that we have been eyeing. Be careful when ordering via the phone. It was actually $6 more than it would have been online. The lady said that sometimes the catalog pricing is more than the online pricing. I was finally able to place my order online.

        When I went to buy items in cart, it had two options, “checkout” or “checkout + coupon code” so you may want to make sure you didn't click “checkout.'

      Wow, I had the same problems as everyone else– either sold out, or this item can't be used with the promo code. To the person who asked, I tried the 4T4T4T code and had the same luck as with GIVEJOY. Bummer, guess they don't like us getting the great deals. :)

      PS- Anyone in the market for Barbie-type dolls, there are still some GREAT deals to be had. 4 princesses for 7 bucks, a doll set with 3 dolls and 12 outfits for 9.99, nd a Barbie vacation house for 19.99. None of them work with the promo code, but they're still pretty good deals, I think.

        Oh, and yeehaa (“bonus” for me), my closest retail JCP is about an hour away, but to my surprise, there's a location here in town that's a “catalog location”…..so I get to save $$ on gas, too :-)

      Jeez, impatient much? Let's see, you aren't having to pile in the car and fight traffic to go wade through people to find one item to get for free and then stand in line before going home. Would you rather do that? And if not, is it really worth an hour of your time to get a free towel or a pair of slippers?

      Believe it or not, sometimes, when a trillion people try to get on at the same time, bandwidth can get hogged and things can move slow. Remember the good old days when *see above*

      Open another tab in your browser and go clip some coupons while you wait for the pages at JCP to load.

      You're making it harder than it has to be. A lot of entitlement being slung around in the name of getting something for nothing. Embarrassing.

      So, both the 1-800-322-1189 and the 1-800-222-6161 numbers go straight to a message (doesn't even ring first) and then hang up, BUT I did get through calling the “catalog inquiry” number 1-800-709-5777 (then press 1 to place an order). I was on hold for about ten minutes, and made sure I asked for the total before giving my CC#, and good thing – she used a substitute code for GIVEPAY that only took off 10%, rather than $10, but was able to correct it when I inquired. So, $3.24 for a set of much-needed towels, and all I have to do is pick them up! Hooray!

      Call 1-800-222-6161 . Do not bother with web site right now. When you call you will be put on hold by the automated computer. My wait time said 7 minutes, but it was less than 5. I placed my order and got the towels. My husband called a few minutes later and placed the same order and they already knew our address without us giving it to them (I guess by phone number) but had no problem doing another order with the same promo code. Just MAKE SURE BEFORE you give them your credit card number that you tell them about the promo code AND ship to store. Once you give them the card number they run it. Good luck and happy shopping!

      BIG Question with this promotion. Just placed my order with customer service rep on the phone and when I gave her the GIVEJOY code she stated that it is actually for 15% of when you use a VISA. I told her that the code was to be for $10 off and she said that was a fraudulent discount for that code and all of the orders coming through with that will be cancelled. I was not able to get the great deal, but hopefully she was wrong and you all get your deals. I guess I missed this one though!

        Hate to say this but it was probably a lazy sales rep that couldn't be bothered to get the facts. If the code is working in their website, there's no reason it should be fraudulent.

      Argh – just wasted 45 minutes trying to do this. Loved the towel set. Finally, I called and customer service told me that they all just received a message saying that GIVEJOY was a mistake and was never valid and it's what's causing everyone's orders not to proccess on-line. (I told her that it couldn't be a “mistake” because people had used it successfully. She offered me 15RATING promo code instead, which is 15% off! Bogus! Not happy with JCPenney right now. I feel they pulled the deal because of the high response – and that's just not good business :(

      if you go to the jcp website and click on the 20% off if you use your JCP card and 15% if you dont link at the bottom it says you can enter the GIVEJOY code or call the customer service number and give it to them, so it should work even on the phone. I tired it on the website and it took the $10 off. My question though is, how do you get the 15% off?? I had planned to order some clothes for my parents so the 15% off would be more beneficial to me. I guess I will have to go to the store in order to use that coupon. I can't get through on the phone to ask anyone. I also know that JCP has posted on Facebook a couple of times this week that the website is running very slow…

      Listen up ladies, just a minute :-) I went through ebates to place my order, or at least I TRIED to, and the GIVEJOY coupon is listed, as is the free shipping to the store instead of your home. It clearly states that the cpn is for 15% or 20% with the JCP card, SO, I'm wondering if something got lost in someone's translation, and we're blasting JCP without cause. Jenny??????

        I called to order and at first the rep for JCP said it was for 15% off if using a non-JCP credit card, or 20% off if using a JCp card to order. When I said I had seen on line that others had successfully ordered using the code “GIVEJOY” to get $10 off their order of $10 or more (using the example of $50 towel set on sale for $12.99 which was $3.21) then she said “oh it looks like it works” and pushed it through. I shipped it to the store for free.

      I just had semi-success but it sure did take awhile. I am a patient person for my deals, though. The Givejoy code does not work for the outlet clearance items. That is what I tried and wanted the most. When that did not work, I ordered the towel set everyone is getting. I did call 1-800-709-5777 and had to wait about 10 min. or more. I just feel that JCP has too many stipulations and issues. The last time I tried something like this I found out too late that Levis were not included. You really have to know your stuff, but the website is really hard to maneuver….oh well…

      Just got through on the phone…apparently someone in the marketing department goofed!! The lady I spoke with said that their are two promotions going on right now and they both use the code GIVEJOY. This may explain some of the confusion. She said the computer doesnt know this so it's been causing alot of problems. It should work however, if you want the $10 off. If you want the 15% off online you will need to call the 1-800 number and give them your order. She did say if you will go to the website and put everything you want in your shopping bag it make it a lot easier for them to check you out.

        The website isn't working, you need to call the 800 number. You will have to call over and over for about 5 minutes and then you will wait on hold for about 10. But I think it was worth it.

I have to agree with you on that hold music. I have confirmation numbers so I hope they don't cancel the orders. I have not received an email confirmation so be sure to ask for the confirmation #.

      It finally worked for me just a few moments ago. I got my towels for $3.21. Although I did receive the correct order confirmation email almost immediately, I still got an error message on the JCP site (which made it appear that the order did not go through). This has been a very frustrating process but you have to be persistent. Good luck!

      PLEASE NOTE – there are exclusions to the code. Will not work on Toys or cookware or electronics or levi's. That should help with the system being bogged down with all of us trying to order things that won't work with the code. :-)

        I wondered that too Linda until I called the 800 # and spoke to a customer service representative. I don't think a hacker could hack into the actual JCP phone number and pretend to be a customer service rep. So I think it is legit.

        • What did the rep tell you concerning the “givejoy” code? So many different things are being reported here.

          Also, they wouldn’t have to hack the phone number. Speaking as a person who worked in a call center once, the software system they probably use is definitely hackable. All it has to be is connected to the internet. (However, speaking very theoretically, it could also be “an inside job”.)

          But ALSO from working in a call center… I simply DON’T understand why they can’t coordinate all their call centers (I’m betting they have several in different timezones) to all have the same information. All it takes is an e-mail to all reps. I was once in charge of those types of “correction” e-mails, and they would go to call centers all over the USA, so unless JCP is just COMPLETEY behind technologically (and it looks like they are), or they are hopelessly out-sourced, conflicting information shouldn’t be happening.

      ALSO (& probably more important!) While I was shopping, strange items kept being added to my cart. I WISH I could fit into a size 10! Very odd as I hadn't even looked at the items, much less ordered them….
      I hope what I did order will fit, but I can always return them to the same store that I had them shipped to!

She gave me a discount and I got the Chateau towel set for $3.20 delivered to the store. It would have been over 9 dollars had it shipped to my house but to the store it was much cheaper.       FYI Well, I waited patiently (and went through the batteries for 2 dying handsets) but finally was able to speak to a representative. I was told the “GIVEJOY” code was not a legitimate code and that someone had hacked into their system to use it. I was given a choice of a 20% discount if I used a Penny's charge card or a 15% discount if I used a credit card. Not the deal I was hoping for so I opted out.

She seemed quite sure about what she was saying, so, I have to wonder. IF they do cancel orders, they are going to have some FURIOUS customers contacting them, lol.

      phoey woudnt work, just called the 800 number and the rep told me that there was a promo sent out but had a mis print and said $10 off but was supposed to be 15% and said they have corrected it. Funny from the comments here and on fb seems like JCP is changing their store or just not communicating with their employees. Rep was super nice tho and only had to wait two minutes.

      This has probably been one of the most frustrating experiences in my whole life! (no joke!) I just wanted a tie chain. An ever-loving tie chain. My shopping bag keeps on adding stuff like the above mentioned towel set, and women's blouses. So ironic that the code is “givejoy,” I think they should change it to “giveheadache.”

      Okay, I read somewhere (on one of the blogs or the JCP Facebook page? I'm tired & don't know anymore LOL) that someone was getting the same error messages I was and it kept timing out using Firefox so they used a different browser & it worked the first try. Decided it was worth one last shot before I collapse into my bed… Switched to IE, went through on the first try, 3 new hand towels for 77 cents plus 5 cents tax for a grand total of 82 cents – woo hoo! But then… I entered my payment info & submitted the order and got a confirmation that included a boys shirt I hadn't even looked at. So, emailed them immediately and commented on their Facebook page. Should have given up hours ago and tried to overcome this addiction LOL Going to sleep now, hoping it's all fixed in the morning!

      So I made two orders one with each code last night. When the second order finally went through, it was wrong (ordered sleepers, the same print in two different sizes, it was going to send me two of the same size), so I had to call and correct.

          I received both confirmations within minutes of each order; however, I received some strange message this morning from that Mailer-Daemon that you usually get a message from if your emails don’t get sent to the recipient. The messages said “THIS IS A WARNING MESSAGE ONLY. YOU DO NOT NEED TO RESEND YOUR MESSAGE. Delivery to the following recipients has been delayed.”, which is weird, because I didn’t reply to my order confirmation emails or anything. I checked the order status of each on jcpenney.com and they are still showing as “In process”. When you got to the order confirmation page after your credit went through, did you write the confirmation numbers down? If you did, you can check your order status online (enter the conf number and your phone number), and maybe if they show up there, then you are ok! Good luck to ya!

        If you call the 800 and select the option to check status of an order a customer service rep can help you. I called on the two orders I placed last night just to make sure they were going thru. At first I was told that the Givejoy code was good for only a one time use but when he checked my orders they both went thru. He put me on hold to double check with someone (“the powers that be” I suppose) and came back saying I am good to go!!! Yay! So, if you are concerned you can call them. He also said that he has NOT been told that the orders that went thru would be canceled as others here have stated.

        The problem I had was they were out of everything i tried to order, like the first 10 items!! I finally got dishes for 20% off using code.       I used the GIVEJOY code last night around 8pm and didn't get a confirmation email on my purchase. I used the 4T4T4T and was able to get comfirmation emails on 3 purchases last night. I just tried the 4T again just to see and it isn't taking anything off. 2 of the purchases have already been deducted out of my bank account so I sure hope they don't take them away! My twin boys need those jeans for Christmas! :)

    • 4T4T4T is not working anymore. I used it earlier this morning and already got a confirmation email but tried again with a friend for her and it says the code now has a minimum purchase required (not sure what it is but it's over $18 at least). Looks like they've cut it off. :(

      I checked the status of one of my orders that I placed on the website and they had cancelled the discount (even though I had a confirmation notice), so I cancelled that one. I placed one more order on the phone, so hope that one goes through, since it was an associated who took out the discount.

      Guess this is dead! For those of you who were annoyed with the site, I'm sure any site would be like that if all of a sudden there was a super deal that everyone and their mom was trying to snag at once! Those of you that were able to do the deal (and your order isn't cancelled) should be thankful you logged on here last night to read Jenny's deal, and thankful that you have a computer where you can get good deals. It seems like everyone is just so frustrated that they can't get something for free, when JCPenny is doing us a favor by offering such a great coupon. Now let's hope they follow through the orders that did go through since it was their mistake.

          How did you find out they removed the code? That’s crazy! I looked on JCP.com and the orders I had done still had the discount, but said “in process.” Did they email you that they were changing it?

            Nope, I had never received an order confirmation in my email box, I just saw the confirmation page at the end of my order… I quickly jotted down the order number, but now I wish I printed it out. So I just went to look it up on their website (where you type in the order number and the phone number, and the total was at $13..last night when I looked it up it was $3.52. It also mentioned Givejoy promotion last night for a $10 discount, but that wasn't on there this morning.

              They took away the discounts on my orders too…and I have the confirmation emails with the discount showing. I called and they said that they couldn't honor the discount, that it was invalid AND that it was too late to cancel the orders! I swear there has to be something ILLEGAL in increasing the amount to be billed…especially when I have proof of the amount that was confirmed! That is not what I authorized when I completed my order. It would be one thing to cancel it, but to change it with out notifying me?! I wouldn't have known if I hadn't checked the order status. WHAT A MESS! Now I have to go to Penney's and pick up my stuff, only to return it so I can get my money back. I'm glad I used my credit card and not my debit card…that could have caused another load of problems!

              WHAT?! They increased all your orders?? Which code did you used? That is awful that they would do that without allowing you to, at least, cancel them! If they do that to me I'm done with JCP…what a huge hassel, and it's THEIR error.

            I first noticed it while checking the status online, but they never sent me a confirmation email, so I called customer service to check on the status. She said one of the shirts I ordered was not in stock so it had been removed from my order (this was different from what was reflected online, where I was being charged for both items) We looked for a replacement item and found one, but she couldnt apply the coupon – “her superviosor told her it wasnt a valid code” I started to argue that if it was not a valid JCP code then why was it accepted on website and phone orders…but she had no answer, so I just said cancel it.

      I am Very Long time Penney's shopper and I want everyone to know that they have gone sour with their coupons. I had a $15 off any $15 purchase. bought one item 12.99 and one for $7.50. When it rang up it gave me the 12.99 for free and charged me full price of $7.50 for the other. I did not get the total $15 off. Emailed corporate and they couldnot explain.. Last three coupons I”ve tried to use at Penney, all had some problem or error. Something bad is going on with them nationally!

      FYI: I had a phone call on the number I have listed with JC Penney that came up as Out Of Area on the caller ID. They (JC Penney) left a message in my voicemail saying that the promotion was invalid, they will process the order with a 15% discount, bringing my total to $13.63. If I am unsatisfied with this then I can call customer service at 1-800-709-5777 to cancel the order. I think this stinks. Just wanted to let everyone know, because I never recieved any information in my email, only on my home phone…..

        Hi- I got the same message. When I called though, all they said was that the color towels I had ordered was out of stock and asked if I'd like to substitute another color, which I did. They did cancel the original order, and did verify that the new order was for $3.29 as well. No mention of the “invalid code”.

      I tried so many times yesterday during the day but none went through. I tried again around 11 pm to midnight. Every time I tried, the computer froze up. Well, I tried 3 more times around 2am, they went through just fine. I only got 3 confirmations on orders I placed around 2 am. Few mins ago I checked the status on all orders, to mine surprise I had six orders placed. All orders got $10 off. I checked my bank accounts, there we six deductions from the account. I guess I won't be complaining. I will keep all the towel set. :)

        It looks like they honored my order with the code GIVEJOY! My tracking message says “COMPLETED” and when I click on the info it says “shipped on 12/3/10” So it looks like it went through. I guess we won't know until JCPenney calls us and lets us know our order is waiting to be picked up.

      I am so frustrated with this whole deal… I don't know if I shot myself in the foot by calling customer service but here's my situation:
      I found the deal right away when it was posted on a blog and tried to use the code but the website was experiencing difficulties. Throughout the day I tried again and was actually successful in placing 6 orders. Three of them were completely free ($10 item total) and didn't even require my credit card. The other three were $8.34, $8.34, and $2.08. For the last order.. the $2.08 one, I was called and advised that the color of the item I ordered was not in stock so the girl canceled that order and placed another one for a color that was in stock. Stupid me did not verify the order total.. which I guess I didn't think about since I was only changing the item color and now the total is $12.51. I called to ask if they could apply the discount, after waiting 20 minutes to get through, and the girl transferred me to her supervisor who was going to apply this discount but said it was already applied… I tried to explain that it wasn't because the pending charge was $12.51 and I was disconnected! She did not attempt to call me back, ok fine whatever. So I call back… wait another 15 minutes and get a rude rep who told me I had to use my jcp card for the promo. I told her that my original order went through fine so she placed me on hold. The rude girl came back on the phone and said they weren't going to honor the discount so I said I wanted to cancel because I DID NOT authorize that amount to be charged. She pretty much said too bad and to refuse the order when it arrived at the store. I checked my orders just now and they all say Status: Pending Shipment, Date Shipped: 12/2/10. The charge is still pending so I cannot dispute it, but what a mess! Trying to get some holiday gifts on the cheap and this is almost as frustrating as elbowing and fighting on black friday. BTW… I always take screen shots of EVERY online order I place no matter the merchant. I delete them once I receive the item. I am so glad I did that this time because I refuse to pay an amount that I did not authorize. Ahh, feels better to have vented that. LOL. Good luck ladies! Hope your orders don't get canceled.

      JcPenney just called and said that the code is unauthorized and said they could give me 15% off, so I kept one of the 3 orders and cancelled the rest. Weird though because I ordered something bigger with the code the next morning and it went through and they didn't call about that order, but I have pending authorizations on my credit card for 3 of the 4 orders….

      Placed an order on Wednesday night, credit card was charged the full amount last night, got a call this morning saying the code was an unauthorized use! They will not refund the order until it has arrived at the local store! This has been a nightmare after all of the problems with the website!

        Oh great… I was hoping that for orders that were shipped that they would just go ahead and honor the discount! This really has been ridiculous. I have never had this many issues with a JCP promo code… I'm thinking it will be my last time. Since January I've probably used the ten off ten code about 8 or 9 times.. I don't see what the big deal is about honoring the discount right now when they offer the same deal so many times throughout the year. It's not even like they had THAT great of sales going on anyway for you to use the discount on top of..

      Got the nasty little phone call today on my cell phone while at Hallmark using my $5 coupon and the lady said it was an “invalid code”. Yeah right….it went through on their site so someone had to program BOTH of those codes to go through. They think we are all so stupid. She offered me %15 off and I told her no thanks and sent an e-mail saying they should take responsibility for their own mistake, chalk it up to advertising and not punish us because we are way smarter than they are for catching their stupid mistake! What a waste of time they are. Going back to Kohls .4 mile from my house. They treat me right and have better stuff! The mall/pennys was 5 miles away anyway!

        I just got a shipping notice from JCP that one of my orders has now been shipping. All the orders I placed are showing in process on JCP's tracking system, and they are all pending in my checking account. We will see! I'll keep u posted:).

        Oh, and I emailed their facebook team and someone called and left me a message saying all my orders are in process and will go through; none were canceled. I looked on their facebook page and I believe they are now honoring the codes since it was an internal error. There were some really upset customers when JCP started canceling their orders.

            I placed my orders on 12/2 around 7am EST and they still are saying in process, but I got a phone call. The ones that are canceled say canceled, but all the others (that the lady from JCP told me we going to be honored) are still showing in process. Oh, and one is showing in process, but i got a shipping notification that it was shipped in my email. I'm sure you're orders are going to be fine (especially if you didn't get a phone call:)!

      I just want to add that if any of your orders are canceled, or messed up in any way using GIVEJOY or 4T4T4T that you should email facebook@jcpenney.com and they will call you back ASAP!! They WILL fix it for you! I got a call from their corporate office as soon as I emailed them (oh, and I don’t even have a FB account:).

Instead, email facebook@jcpenney.com and they WILL fix it for you! I had someone from their corporate office call me about an hour after I sent an email checking on my order using the 4T4T4T code and she called me back and said they are all in process and will go through with the discount applied! They were getting slaughtered on their facebook wall, so I wonder if that is why emailing them at that address is so successful? Everyone that was complaining on FB had their orders resubmitted with the discount applied.

      I've been trying to locate my two orders all week. The track order link on the website is busted. So I called the number (TOOK FOREVER to get a hold of someone.) and finally got a hold of a real person. She said my two orders were there but only one is being honored; the other order (for the same item) is discontinued. I asked if I could change the color and she said all colors were out. So that's it I guess. They have already charged my credit card for the first order so they better produce. The second order has not been charged so I guess I'll count that as a loss? I've emailed facebook@jcpenny.com and maybe they will decide to honor it. But if they don't I plan to just by 3 “Home Expressions Bath Towels” at 3.99 and use the 10 off 10 purchase I got the mail these week. Not the exact same deal but at least its something.

      I had 11 orders that I have received order confirmations on and are in my que to be processed in my checking account. I received the fun phone call from customer service on Saturday morning.
      I have checked status of my orders and some say in process and some say canceled. My boss was placing orders at the same time using the same code and all of his say pending shipping and he had 11 orders as well.
      How can they allow some peoples orders and not others?

      Last night I emailed facebook@jcpenney.com, I told them I had placed 2 orders one using GIVEJOY and one using 4T4T4T codes, the 4T order is at the store but they changed the total amount from 3.27 to 14.19. I received a call today but I was not home, so they then sent an email saying to either call back or send another email to let them know if I would like them to adjust the order to the original 3.27. I responded that I would like that very much, so we will see what happens. I am anxious to see what happens with the GIVEJOY order. Keeping fingers crossed, I really need new towels.

      I placed 5 orders on 12/1 and received confirmation for 4 when placed and then another confirmation for the 5th on 12/3. All showed “pending shipment” from that date on. Yesterday I emailed facebook and requested status on orders. Today I received an email that indicated:

      After further review of your five orders, all five orders are showing as “invoiced.” This means the orders are in the final stages of processing and will be shipped out to your local store for pick up within a matter of days. Once the items arrive at the store, the store will be calling you to let you know they are available for pick up.

      Today I also received 4 phone calls that indicate orders are in the store for pick-up. Waiting to see that 5th order is received and will go to store and pick-up!

      Apparently they decided to fill the 3rd order that I placed (out of 4 orders) and have the other ones all 'pending shipment'. I emailed them and got this response:
      “The promotional discount GJGJGJ was valid for a one-time use on a single
      order, as stated on the offer. Our records indicate you had already
      used this promotion on the following Orders xxxx-xxxx
      Additional orders do not qualify for the discount.
      Please contact xxxxxx Mall JCPenney Catalog Desk for information on
      your orders.
      Unfortunately, our promotional offers are sometimes advertised on
      unauthorized websites or distributed via email which is not directly
      from JCPenney. In these situations, JCPenney is not responsible for
      false or incomplete information.”
      My card has been charged for all 4 transactions so my husband is going by the store today to get this straightened out. Glad to hear so many others had their multiple orders completely filled, hopefully I can get mine filled too.
      oh yeah, I didn't even use the GJGJGJ code.

      I placed 2 orders on 12/1. Received one order without problem 12/8 and was told at that time the other order was processing and would be delivered this week. Sunday I had a voicemail from the store saying I had an order to be picked up. Dragged myself to the mall even though I wasn't planning on going out that day, and there was no order for me. The associate was very rude and said it must have been an old message on my voicemail about the first order. Like I am a complete idiot and don't know when I get messages! I walked out so upset he called me at home to apologize and said he had checked the status of my order and it should be in the store Wednesday. Today is Friday and I have a message from the store saying the item I ordered is no longer available, and my credit card will be credited. HELLOOOOO???? It took JCP.com 16 days to realize they didn't have what I ordered? Between this and the rude associate I won't be shopping in the store or online any time soon. Now I have to scramble last minute to replace that gift I thought was taken care of…..grrrrrr…….
