Many of you have emailed and called Johnson & Johnson about the $10 Mail in Rebate.  Long story short Johnson & Johnson is telling everyone who calls that the $10 rebate when you buy $30 is only being honored for those that spend $30 AFTER coupons!

There are lots of great coupons out to use on this rebate, but please make sure that you are buying enough to still end up with a $30 purchase.

Tip: They are stating that they are only looking at the total purchase of the receipt being over $30, so if you buy these as part of a grocery shopping trip with other items you will be good.

Head to Publix, get everything you need that week and get:

(2) Aveeno Hair Care $5.49
(5) Aveeno Baby Care Items $3.79
(1) Clean & Clear spot Treatment $4.19
(2) -$2.50 off Aveeno Hair SS 1/10 or printable
(5) -$2 off Aveeno Baby care SS 1/10 or printable
-$2 off Clean & Clear SS 1/10 or printable
Total = $16.67

As long as your total purchase is over $30 when you checkout you will be fine.  Why you ask?  Your receipt will show the coupons used but will not show what the coupons were for.

This was information from their call center “just make sure your total purchase including non rebate items is over $30″.

Update: As others call they are getting different answers.  You will have to make a decision on this one for yourself.  Remember, what the call center says and what the rebate center approves are not always the same.  From all of the differences on this one I’m leaning towards either not doing it or having the $30 so I know either way I’m good.

    • ashley

Wow that stinks… I have already sent it in…

    • Heather

Wow… this really stinks. I thought I had a great deal at RiteAid last week, but I my entire purchase was for this $10 rebate and total receipt cost was only $13… what a bummer.

    • Anne Marie

Thanks for the update and for everyone calling, but ugh! My daughter uses clean and clear face wash, so I bought 4 at CVS along with 2 Lubriderm Lotions, after $17 in coupons and $18 ecb’s I only spent $1.82. Should I take it all back and try again at Publix, or just forget about the rebate? Thanks for all you do!

      • JenGC

I’m with you. I bought Lubriderm at harris Teeter after I found out you needed to buy 2 different product names so that one is good but the other I bought at Walgreens and paid $18 so I dont think they will take it. I guess I am just going to avoid Johnson and Johnson rebates from now on.

        Thanks for keeping us updated!!

        • I got part of my JNJ stuff at Walgreens, and I intentionally put only the JNJ rebate items on one receipt at Publix. I have already sent mine off, too. Bummer!!! Does it all have to be on one receipt?

    • Ashli

so does it all after to be on one receipt?

      • Ingrid

This is my question too. I have multiple receipts from purchases of these products at different stores.

    • Kristy

IMO.. if you need to get stuff at Publix it shouldn’t be to hard to hit the 30$ total. I think I should be able to make this work. I just have to figure an idea..lol

    • Ashli

also, has anyone seen anything about the new kimberly clark rebate where you get a $10 gift card?

    • So Glad I read this post! I was going to CVS today to buy the required items. I had figured out a deal that between coupons and ECB’s the rebate was going to be a moneymaker. Oh well! Guess I won’t be buying any of it. I didn’t have to have any of the products, so J&J are the real losers!

    • Jenn

I think somebody at Johnson & Johnson is misinformed! I mean the coupons and the rebate form were in the same insert together side by side! Plus everyone has these items on sale this week and next! O well, I’ve already sent mine so we’ll see what happens. Very frustrating!

      • Cori

I agree and the form says “purchase $30 worth of products”, it does not say to “spend $30”.

      • michelle

    • Dana

great, I did mine at cvs with the clean and clear items for my daughter.. After coupons and ecb I spent 1.82 oop.. guess that won’t work now.

    • I already sent mine in as well. So I couldn’t even return the items because my receipt is with the rebate. That stinks. :( Plus I used a precious RR to purchase the items. LOL Oh well, live and learn.

But I’m curious b/c the other rebate they did with the $5 rebates you could do with coupons?? Remember that one, just three items……..no cost mentioned or anything.

Maybe Walmart will take the items back without the receipt?? Hmmmmm

      • Jessica

walmart will only give you a gift card unless you raise a fuss and then they may give you the money back or let you exchange.

    • Stephanie

I believe the rebate you are talking about is from SC Johnson which I think is a different company.

      • JenGC

Ooohhh I hope I hope I hope you are right. Do you mean the one with the fantastic and glade deal? (I can’t put my hands on the paper right now)

        • Susan

Yes, this rebate is from S.E. Johnson and not from Johnson & Johnson. They make cleaning products etc.

    • Susan

Hmmmm…I read the rebate form carefully, and it said a $30.00 purchase was required. It DID NOT state that coupons did not apply to the purchase. I would think they would be required to honor the offer based on meeting the requirements as specified on the form.

    • becky

these are really great products, though. i was actually looking for an excuse to stock up! :)

    • Jess

Is this rebate printed in color? When I tried to print it on my B&W printer there is a big blank space. there isn’t anywhere to put my name, address, etc. But the rules say you must complete the official mail-in certificate. Any ideas?

      • Sarah Beth

Mine did the same thing. I had to print it from a b/w printer that does not require color.

        • Jess

I just found the rebate form in the SS ad from 1/10 with all of the JnJ coupons if you need it.

    • JenniferB

Oh well…mailed mine this morning…Really great deal at cvs with coupons though. Won’t need any more clean & clear for at least a year!

    • Susan

I do not understand how they could say this. If you buy $30 worth of product, why would it matter how you pay for it? Wether you pay with coupons, ecb’s, rr’s or cash! This does not seem right!

    • Kimi

I will be keeping my Clean & Clear because it was a great deal last week at CVS – but I am returning all of the Aveeno to WAGS. I have a stockpile of shampoo from Pantene – and never would have purchased it had I known. Oh well. Not the greatest PR for J&J.

    • Tina M

I, too, have already sent in my rebate form and am disappointed not to receive the $10.00 rebate, but I got a lot of Aveeno and Lubriderm lotion at a ridiculously low price and was able to share them with my coworkers. I don’t believe I can really complain when I got great products for such a good price. In fact, I plan to pick up some more this afternoon. The Lubriderm and Aveeno products were almost free anyway with the Walgreens deal and the great coupons.

Also, please don’t think Jenny is trying to lead people astray when she has helped them come up with scenarios that spend less than $30.00. The rebate form DOES say $30.00 WORTH of products, not you must spend $30.00.

    • I went back and looked at rebate info. Purchase excludes tax, trial sizes and cleansing bars. If coupons were excluded, shouldn’t the rebate have said so? Maybe, we should return all the products we have bought and forget the whole thing.

    • Kiki

That stinks. I sent mine the day it first started and got great deals, but was really looking forward to the $10 to sweeten the deal much much more. I think they should have made that known to all.

    • Emily

ARGH! I just made a trip to Publix and spend $35.98 before coupons, but I had $12 worth of coupons…so my total was well under $30. I was thinking I could still submit this but I guess not!! Plus I came straight home and opened everything, so I can’t return it!! :(

    • Emily

Hmmm, I’m sure many will put up a fight about this. So, will J&J be returning my receipt so I can take the items back to the store. Or will I have to do it without a receipt and then the store will really lose out because it won’t take into account the B1G1 half or the coupons I used to get the stuff for cheap to start with. This makes no sense.

    • kelli

This is very disappointing news. I’ve already sent in 2 rebates (one for me, one for my mom). I bought $66 worth of items but didn’t spend nearly $66. I added items to my Rite Aid and CVS shopping trips this week and used $5 off store coupons as well as other coupons from the paper, ECBs, and my Rite Aid gift certificate from holiday spending. I spent a total of $11.75 OOP.

The rebate form was found on coupons.com where there were quite a few coupons for items included in the rebate. It was also in the coupon insert last weekend along with 9 coupons for the items included. How could they possibly expect people to buy these items without using coupons? Based on where the form was found, it was obviously targeted towards couponers.

The form says “You must purchase $30.00 worth of products” not that you have to spend $30 on those products. Maybe they messed up on the wording of the rebate form but I really think that if they wanted the total to be $30 AFTER coupons, it should’ve said something about that, especially since it mentions other exclusions (“Purchase excludes tax, trial sizes and cleaning bars”). It would’ve been easy to add another sentence stating that the total had to be $30 after all coupons used. I would’ve never done the rebate, but there also would not have been any question about it.

    • Does anyone know if the items are still ringing up B1G1 Free at Walgreens or was it fixed in their system? I wouldn’t mind doing this deal and not worrying about the rebate since everyone has gotten such great deals. Thanks for any help!

Have fun tonight in Spartanburg Jenny! I wish I could go home to attend the workshop.

    • Melissa

I just got off the phone with them and the lady I talked to said that the CVS and Walgreens money would not count against you but store discounts and the coupons would. The thing I don’t get is how they would know other than if you personally marked the ones that were rewards and not coupons. She was not very nice about it though but did give me a confirmation number at the end. I am going to send in the rebate anyway and see what happens. I think it is a PR nightmare for them and they would be wise to honor the rebates that get sent in. I use the stuff anyway though so I still got a great deal, even without the rebate.

Good luck, too bad we won’t know until it is expired what they will really honor and what they won’t. (just assuming it is a 6-8 wk turnaround).

    • Sarah

If this is true, I will be avoiding J&J like the plague! I did the rebate the first day and my OOP was $2.61 at Walgreens after coupons & RR. In agreement that the receipt says “WYB $30 worth” not “WY spend $30” I am still steamed at them for the “free” bath toy rebate WYB 1 J&J baby product that they never sent. Does anyone have a phone # for these jokers? :) TIA.

      • kelli

if I don’t get the rebate check, I’ll prtty much be avoiding them as well, unless there are free products.

      • I didn’t get my bath toy either! I had forgotten about that!

    • JenGC

Well the more I think about it, I think, even if we don’t get the rebate, we are getting $30 worth of stuff for less than $10. I mean, I did after using RR. Yes I worked hard to get the RR but I know I have gotten my money back 3 times over so if they don’t honor it, I got some clean and clear stuff for next to nothing when I wouldn’t normally have gotten it. Happy Birthday to me! Thank you God for the gift :D

      • Sarah

JenGC, this is true, but do you know how many blogs I’ve read where the scenarios worked up are spending a lot of money OOP and then counting on that $10 MIR to make it a better deal? I feel badly for those people who may not be as frugal as those of us who read Jenny’s blog.

        • JenGC

Very true. They are extremely misleading and I am sorry for those that bought it, paid money out of pocket thinking they would be getting reimbursed. I didn’t think of that. I guess I was just narrow minded and didnt think of other situations! (not saying that is what you are calling me. *I* am calling me on that and going to work on considering others as well!) I am very angry at Johnson and Johnson’s for this. VERY BAD PR!

    • Jennifer H

I sent mine in earlier this week as well. I do hope they honor the original amount otherwise why release coupons to save money on your products at the same time the rebate came out? Thank you for giving us a heads up Jenny. I will be happy to receive the rebate, but if not I only spent $11 on $40 worth of products I intend to use anyway! :)

    • Lindsay

I too am upset with this new information from Johnson & Johnson. I sent my original receipt with the rebate and cannot return the items to Walgreens, plus I wasted my RRs getting these because I thought I’d get the money back from the rebate. I am donating the items anyway. If the rebate is not honored I will be filing a consumer complaint with the FTC.

    • I just read where J&J had to recall 53 million Tylenol products. Maybe our rebates are the least of their worries!

      • JenGC

Yeah I read that too but didn’t realize they were the same company (are they??). Tylenol just can’t seem to catch a break! Remember the last time the did the massive recall where some people were injecting something in the pills? That was the 80s wasn’t it?

    • Dale

Well, I sent my rebate in already, and do not agree with J & J’s interpretation of their own form. The form clearly states that we circle each purchase price, and IMO if this adds up to $30.00, then we have a deal. I am personally going to call and/or write their customer service department and express my displeasure at the way they are handling this. You would think that such a large company would have a legal team review their offers and make sure they have covered these issues up front. Yes, I got a great deal with my ECB’s and coupons, but had I known this I might have used the ECB’s on a better deal. I agree that this is poor customer relations on their part.

    • Michelle

I emailed Johnson and Johnson. I would not have purchased what I did had their rebate form been worded after coupons! This is false advertising and they need to honor it.

    • LD

Yes J&J is the parent company of tylenol along with toms of other items . There corp headquaters is in New Jersey .

      • LD

The Corp is for all of the companys including baby items Aveno tylenol Accuvue Mcneil all of the U.S. based companys any how . Not that they are all manufactured here . lol no matter what your box or bottles say . Just front plants, most is made overseas .

    • michelle

ok, so since i mailed my receipt in already :( will walgreens take them back, I got 4 avenno shampoo/conditioners??

    • Amanda Bailey

      Hey All,
I was wondering if any of you had a copy of the rebate form? I went and got my products today with my shopping but the print limit had been reached. Is there anyone who could send me a copy? I would really appreciate it!

    • Rachel

I bought my items at Rite Aid last week using in-ad coupons stacked with the SS coupons, then paid for it using my Gift of Savings certificate. My OOP was 1.42. Then I came home and read these postings and was disappointed that I wouldn’t be able to send it in for the rebate.

BUT Rite Aid came through and saved the day! The manager today let me “return” the J&J items and then “buy” them again. So my new receipt shows the value over $30 and doesn’t show any of the coupons I used! I can submit it for the rebate. That’s why I love my Rite Aid. Their customer service blows CVS out of the water.

    • tracy
