I think it was when a group of women got together at church to make items for childen in our Awana club to buy for their family. We played Christmas music and had great fellowship.

    • Bulldogbob76

    • Megan

I love doing crafts with my children

    • So far, my all time favorite is when I made a HUGE scrapbook for my parents for their 25th wedding anniversary, filled with pictures, cards and artwork from their life from dating, all the way to now and of course, tons of pictures of my sister and I. My mom is not a “crafty” person and would never take the time to make her own scrapbook, so it meant a lot to her to have all of her memories located in one place! I would truly love to win this!!

    • Kim H.

We were making Salvation bracelets at VBS with colored beads and the black beads represent sin. I was helping a child with hers when I noticed her black bead was missing. I kept asking her where it went until finally she pointed to her nose. I couldn't believe this bead fit up there. I had to get a nurse to help get that thing out. It made me think of sin and how it likes to stay hidden but we need to take it out and throw it away!!! The girl was fine and we finished her bracelet—with a new bead, of course!

    • Smoochy_one

My favorite craft-making memory changes with each new craft. However, the most prominent one will have to be the wedding favors I was honored to make for my beautiful daughter's wedding in May 2010. I made daisy cards and envelopes that held specialty tea bags to offer each of our guests! They were a big hit.

    • Clara

    • jennifersykes

I've always enjoyed putting “cast-off” items to new use. The best crafting memories I have now are when I slow down enough to make crafts with my 3 year old and 8 year old. They always have an interesting view of how things should fit together!

    • Astrokaren

My favorite Craft memory would have to be from my childhood at Christmas time making ornaments for our tree with my mom and sisters. Moments like that can never be replaced! I would love to start the craft tradition with my kids!

    • Bblawsonuk

The family reunion cookbook I made. I had never scrapbooked prior to attempting this project. In hindsight, that was probably not a good idea! I ended up having to make 15 cookbooks with 50 recipes each! That's a lot of pages – 750 to be exact. It came out gorgeous and has inspired me to make a special family cookbook for my daughter when she moves out. In the future, though, I will think twice before volunteering for such a huge project!

    • Dillard2831

My oldest son and I made a mosaic table with an old table I had laying around when he was about 8. We had a great time doing it and did a pretty good job with some broken tile and grout! He is in the Navy now and lives on the other side of the country, so it is a bitter sweet memory. Our children grow up too fast!

    • MandyFaye

My favorite memory is the first craft I can remember making in elementary school..the age old craft using tissue paper and the eraser end of a pencil..classic!

    • Cayman Richardson

Take a 6 pack of Strawberry Crush
      Empty out the contents
wash them out, and peel off the label
      fill with candy
and then tie a little tag around each bottle saying “I Have A Crush on You!”

    • Cldeegan

When I was very young, my grandmother took me and each of my siblings at the time, one at a time, to her house where we decorated tshirts however we wanted, to give to my mom for mother's day. It was so special because it was one of the few times we got one-on-one time with my grandparents, plus my mom kept and wore those shirts for years. She problem even still has them tucked away in a box somewhere.

    • kimberlyd

    • Itchin2bstitchin

My favorite memory of making a craft was with my mom and my sister, we made Christmas ornaments using kits. I can't find any of the kits now and really want to make some with my daughter. It's a foam ball covered with the silky stuff and it has long pins that you put beads onto then push into the ball and it's really pretty. I have one on my tree and I think about that time we made them every year.

    • Heather

I love making crafts with my children, my 5 year old son is always bringing home something from school that he has to decorate with items from home. The best one was probably the turkey he decorated for Thanksgiving. He wanted to use all the spices from the kitchen. Each feather on the Turkey was a different spice. It sounds weird, but it turned out really well. He was so excited to take it back to school & show everyone.

    • Ariannadesigns

I took my husbands right foot, my right foot, my 3 daughters hand prints and coated each with paint and made designs for a tree skirt. Each panel held each family members contribution. My husband's foot became a reindeer and so did mine. My daughters handprints became wreaths. My son was only 2 months old so his “behind” became the bottom two sections of a snowman. I sewed all the panels together and made a tree skirt. I treasure this family heirloom.

when I was babysitting for extra money during the worst part of the recession, I did a quick internet search on a craft I could do with the kids. I found we could make a snake out of newpaper, paint and some googly eyes. It was quick, cheap and the kids LOVED it! All the kids snakes turned out differant, and I didnt have to spend any money on the supplies- we had everything on hand =)

    • Angie

When I was pregnant with my daughter, I had very grandiose ideas about things I would make for her nursery. One was a bird mobile (which ended up very cute) and the other was a rug. I got about a third of the way finished with it before she was born and since then I've worked on it maybe once! It's a beautiful rug (so far) but I keep joking with my husband that I'l be able to give it to her for a wedding present since it doesn't look like it's going to be completed anytime soon LOL

    • Nursebower09

My mom and I use to make clothes for me, and I remember trying on the partly finished product and her making adjustments. Now I'm doing it for my girls, along with a dozen other crafts.

    • Xverinvx

I have 2, my first one was about 3 years ago when I made a scrapbook/photobook for my bestfriend. She was going back to the Deminican Rebublic after being in the states for about 2 years. (She was sick and needed to go back) So I spent 3 months making her a book of everything she had done since she had met me. Needless to say, she loved it and her friends back home did too.

The second one is the one I am making now. It's a little girls birthday (a co-workers daughter). It's a wooden purse/box for her to place all her treasures in. I love it, it's pink with her name and princess crowns (Her dad told me what she likes). I haven't finished it yet because I have almost a month 'til her Birthday. But what i started of it is perfect and I can't wait to see her face.

When I was eight years old, my mom was helping my older sister and I make Christmas cards. My six year old brother got too impatient for my mom to help him so he started gluing any scrap pieces of paper he could find to our Christmas tree. We thought we got them all off, but the following year when we unpacked the Christmas tree, we found a candy wrapper still glued to our tree. We kept it there and every year we make sure the “candy wrapper” is up front on our old faithful tree.

She would personalize them with family pictures each month and also write in all the family events, ie. birthdays, anniversaries, etc. It was always so much fun when my Grandmother would open this gift at Christmas and pass it around so everyone could see it. She passed away 2 years ago and we found her collection of calandars, it was so neat to go back and look at them. This year I took over the tradition and made a caledar for my Mom, she absolutely loved it, and I loved making it for her!

    • Shayelyn

I was very fortunate to grow up in a crafty family. When I and my brother were young, my father made candles and my mother did macrame and we would go to craft shows on weekends. That led to my brother and I making little scenes on pieces bark mulch with moss, flowers and animals. We also made acorn cap worms and pom-pom animals. I have and still to this day very much enjoy building dollhouses. As far as stitchery, I love counted cross stitch.

I have always loved crafts. When my now grown boys were 4 and 9 we moved to the “country” and began cutting our own Christmas trees etc. That first year we had a small tree in their bedroom and decided to make decorations. We took colored construction paper and made a garland by gluing little strips in rings and connecting them. I saved that garland and all the ornaments my boys created in school, scouts and at home. 2 years ago I changed my tree decorations to include all of these decorations and my grandchildren (4, 3, 2 & 8 mons) really love it. It's a precious memory that I plan to continue with the grandkids.

    • MissyLea

I have lots of good craft memories to choose from, as my mother is like my own Martha Stewart..haha. But I would have to say that my most recent favorite would be this past Thanksgiving at our family's anual Ginger Bread House decorating party. You see, every year we all get together at Thanksgiving at my Grandmother's house and decorate ginger bread houses with kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. Well, my aunt who's 46 had 4 massive strokes last year and wasn't expected to live, but by the grace of God, she is making such a wonderful come back and she was able to decorate her very own ginger bread house all by herself which is huge! There were tears in my grandmother's eyes as she watched her 46 year old daughter complete what is seemingly a small task for many of us, but a huge accomplishment for my aunt now. So decorating ginger bread houses while always fun, really sticks out in my mind as my favorite craft memory.

My family was a crafting family. My sister was great at anything floral and ceramics until she lost her eyesight, my brother a wonderful artist left behind many of his creations to give wonderful memories and my mom was great at sewing crafts. I like sewing, floral and lots of other crafts. My favorite craft item I made is a facless teddy bear for my mom like one she had as a child. As she was in the last stages of leaving this life, she would not turn loose of the bear. Today it graces my pillow and she is always here.

I used a variety of scrap book papers, punches, ribbons, and then, filled each tin with treats and notes. That made a great gift and brought so much excitement to my children. Then, I also made a gorgeous, sparkly, glittery wreath this year (which will be hung next year). The best part about the wreath is that it would retail for probably close to $200. I spent $50 and it is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!

I grew up with a wonderful crafty step mother, who always had us doing something fun. Around November we would pick lots of pecans and then we would take an old oil funnel and glue these pecans up this funnel to make a amazing christmas tree. We would then spray paint it and put lights on the inside. I have to say that was one of the best.

    • Dawn Hislop-Delieto

My favorite and most proud craft I've made was the first scrapbook I made of my husbands progress when he first joined the marine corp. I began the scrapbook of our first meeting, then of our relationship, then his fairwell party, then the roadtrip to SC to his bootcamp graduation and his welcome home party… the scrapbook made him smile more then I have ever seen before. I felt so proud of him and my accomplishment and it is something that he cherishes as well as I do since day one. Since that scrapbook I have made 3 more of his MOS schooling & graduation, and his days in the barracks at New River Air Station in NC, then our fairytale wedding & honeymoon and now one is in the process of our first year living together in Wilmington, NC… I never made scrapbooks before him up to this level, but now knowing how much they mean to us, and how much people enjoy looking at them I will never stop…. This gift card will help me in my crafts and I can't wait to enjoy them!

    • Michele

This year, my daughter and her sons, 8 & 5 made the same ornaments from the same old recipe that I had kept. It is really heartwarming to see a memory you created for your children being passed on to theirs.

I have a really large family with 8 girl cousins. Last year we rented a scrapbooking house and stayed all weekend. I was the best time just being able to spend time with each other. Which is now hard to do since we are married and have families. It was nice being able to talk and look at each others pictures while creating albums to share for a lifetime. We enjoyed it so much we have planned another one in March.

One year, when we lived across the country from the rest if my family, I made Christmas wrapping paper with butcher paper and red, green, blue and yellow paint. I put each color in a separate paper plate and placed the roll of butcher paper in the kitchen floor. I had a large bowl of water and lots if paper towels. I had the three year old step into a plate, then walk on the paper. I took the toddler and used her as a stamp. We did the same thing with hands! They loved it as did my family. My mother took some and framed it. It us still hanging on her wall 16 years later. Can't wait to do the same thing with my 3 and 2 years thus year!

I love making homeade birthday cards with my kids. They would rather make it instead of buying them.

    • Rachel O.

When I was younger my grandmother and I went to a quilt making workshop. My grandmother later gave the quilt we started that day to my parents for Christmas one year. When I graduated college, she helped me convert all of my college t-shirts in to a quilt that I will treasure not only for the memories of school but also the time spent with her.

My favorite craft memory is painting with my mom. It was a nice way for us to bond :)

    • I love this idea! I have tons of stamping stuff and I loved making cards for everyone.

    • My favorite craft time was actually this Christmas. My boys and I made homemade ornaments out of dough and cinnamon. Just as it was time to start painting my husband got home from work. He came in and asked what we were doing and said “sounds fun” and sat right down at the table and starting painting with us. A sweet memory and so glad to know my gruff and tough hubby still has a “kid” in him somewhere. Makes me smile just thinking about it!

    • Katbruwall

I remember making craft kits for Christmas ornaments with my Grandmother. Now I enjoy making crafts with my Girl Scout troop… making cards for Operation Quiet Comfort (soldiers) tomorrow night!

I began my love of crafts as a young girl when my sister and i stayed with my grandmother at her beach house. Every day during quiet time we would work on a craft kit she had purchased for us. I am happiest with paper and glue at my fingertips.

When my oldest daughter was in the Air Force in NM, she decided to get married and have a big wedding. We bought every peach colored flower in Tucson, drove to NM, rented a motel room and made bouquets and all the other flower things for the wedding. The room was a sea of pink and peach petals and glue and tape. It was all worh it when I saw both my daughters walk down the chuch aisle. I cried in my creamsicle dress ( or maybe because of it). The wedding was beautiful and the flowers were too. We all worked together – laughed and cried. Then I went back to clean up the peach strewn room. I always wondered what the maids must have thought. We all love making things together.

I learned how to make these real neat ornaments some with paint inside, some with lace and pearl etc. so then I spent the better parts of Nov-Dec making and entire set of these ornaments to fill a 6 ft tree from my mother for Christmas. She was so proud of them that she put them all on the front and the tree fell over. Needless to say most of the glass ball broke. Now, 20 years later, the few that she has left always go on the front of the tree near the top. lol.

My favorite craft making memory was when I traced my toddlers hands and made a flower (lily) out of their hands. Tape the hands to straws. The youngsters then 4, 3, and 1 yr. were so sweet as they handed the flowers to their grandmothers.

    • Ninaml

About 12 years ago when I was the class mom for a first grade class, I had the students make a sweatshirt for their teacher. I put their handprints connected around the middle of the swetashirt. Then each child personalized their handprint (stick figur style) with paint pens and signed their name. When we gave it to her, we told her it was a group hug for her because all the hands were connected.

When my daughter was young, each year I got her an angel Christmas tree ornament. One year I bought a kit to make a felt angel and we made it together. It didn't turn out as pretty as the picture on the package, but I remember the time we spent making it as a very special one.

    • Jan

I always loved making crafts with my kids when they were little! Now that they are older 12 and 13, it's much more difficult to create something of interest to all of us. The “all inclusive” craft kit is an awesome idea. I can see myself purchasing for snowy days and quiet moments for some down time with my kids, just like when they were little!

    • emilykayehall

    • Patti

I love making crafts with my kids. They are now 17, 19, and 21 and still look forward to what we will make for next year's Christmas gifts. It gets harder and harder to come up with ideas, but the memories we have made over the years makes the effort more than worth it!

    • Jbrew0789

I just hosted a program where I work and we made dream catchers out of paper plates, string, beads, and feathers. We are all over 20 and we had the best time ever as a staff! We all sat around talking about random stuff and who's looked the best of course while working on our craft. One of my favorite memories!

Many memories of her showing me how to sew and make my own clothes when I was growing up. Now I scrapbook my memories with her. I love crafting. My daughter and I had the best time this Christmas making cream cheese sugar cookies and decorating them and sharing them with family.

    • Crystal

I remember when I was a kid making all kinds of crafts and giving them to my mom and dad. Years later after my dad passed away and we were going through his belongings I found all those things I had made that he had saved. It brought back great memories of being with my dad and showed me just how special those crafts I made him were.

    • Nursedeborah

My favorite craft memory was my grandma and me working on my sweet 16 quilt. We talked and laughed and even cried but it was all spent with my grandma who was my best friend. She only remebered who I was for a 92 days before the cancer took her memory as it invaded her brain. I will never forget her and that quilt keeps me safe whether I need to cry or laugh.

I grew up watching my mom do crafts all the time. So luckily it became a part if my life. I thought that everyone knew how to do crafts. But it wasn't until I was a mom myself did I learn that lots of my friends didn't craft. Very disappointing. But it's been great getting to make friends lots of handmade gifts!

We found out it was the 2nd highest bid (after a trip to the Bahammas). We had a lot of fun painting fairies that represented each of us and took pics of us painting it and put them in the drawers to give to the little girl that ended up with the piece. Ok my favorite craft I made one year was with my kids on Christmas. We searched and searched for something unique and easy for them to complete. Plus they like to be a little messy sooooo I found a craft idea that required a bag of mixed dried beans. Colorful the better. Anyways, you take a bag of beans and elmers school glue and combine them together in a bowl. Mixing well so all beans are covered. Next is to take some plastic wrap on a table and putting the beans on it. From here forming a heart, once the heart is established let dry. Day or so. then peel off plastic wrap and add a string to the back for hanging on tree or what every. Really cute and they last forever! p.s. do not wash down sink my kids did this and i had sprouts popping up through the drain. it was funny!
