Over the past few days I hope you have had a chance to sit down and spend time exploring some of the new parts of Southern Savers.   The changes that were made were a lot more than just a new picture and colors.

We started in March working through exactly how the site was used and what could be done to organize and simplify things to make it easier for you.  Every change that was made was carefully thought out and done for a reason.  I know with all things, change is hard.  Some of you are taking it better than others, but hopefully soon I can win the holdouts over.

What are some of the changes??

I can’t list them all out (you wouldn’t want to read it) but I do have a top 4.

  1. You can scroll through all the past articles using the box on the right sidebar.  No need to scroll down the whole page or through pages and pages of things if you are just looking for one post.  This is awesome on days that have tons of deals (or grocery lists)!
  2. We have a DATABASE!  This thing is smart.  Search for anything you want and it will stay right there with you.  You can even search by the web address it will still find the coupons!  Just start typing and watch it find them.  You can also sign up for a daily email of every new coupon that was added that day.  We tend to find 50-150 new coupons a day!
  3. We’ve taken all the getting started content and streamlined it to help folks get started faster. It’s now all under Learn to Coupon.  There is a ton here but my favorite is a new chart of store policies (good for us old timers too).
  4. When you click on a store name at the top of the site a box will now come up on the right with lots of special links for that store.  You’ll find coupons, policies, newsletters etc.,  anything that would be great to know for shopping there.

If you have large complaints feel free to email them… (or comment), but please know that while I’ll listen I probably won’t bring back the old header :)

      I think the site is much improved and looks great. One thing I would mention is that the link to create a printable shopping list isn't very noticeable. It's a black link that just says 'Create List'. It doesn't have an underline indicating that it is a link. i would suggest at least add an underline, but i think making it a button that's clearly visible would be a better option. Otherwise well done.

        I noticed that a few times too. Instead of being able to move the scroll wheel on the mouse I had to go over to the scroll bar and physically move the page up/down with the mouse on the bar. hmmm

          Finally, someone else has stated this problem. Although it is just on the first page (or seems to be.. works fine on the store sales pages), it is a pain. Please fix this oversite.

      I have to say this… I love the updates other than the Color Scheme. It is so much harder to read it's almost like I can feel my astigmatism getting worse :(

      I love the new format. Its so easy to find old posts, etc. My only complaint is that the icon bookmark is now a light green $ and it doesn't jump out at me like the black one did. I solved the problem by moving you up to the top of the list!

      I like the new look. But I have a minor problem. I'm sure it's just me, so someone help this computer illiterate. It seems the page is too big for my computer screen. The right side is cut off and I don't see a bar on the bottom where I can move right. Does this make sense. No laughing. Okay, laugh then help me. Thanks!

        What browser are you using? A lot of time, issues with the way a webpage is viewed are caused by an outdated web browser.

        You don't need a bar at bottom, but you can hold the ctrl button down and use he plus and minus to adjust to fit the screen

      I have to admit I was a little sad to see your beautiful magnolia go, but I'm really liking what you've done. I find it much easier to navigate and find what I'm looking for. And I LOVE the little rectangles with M and S for the coupons. I could never remember which was blue and which was red! :-) Thank you so much for all the work you've put into this!!! (And it looks beautiful!)

      really nice. I tried to do the email thing so that I can receive coupon notices
      daily, but this was over my head. I thought I clicked the link of what
      appeared, but nothing happened.

      Love the new site! Obviously a lot of thought went into it. I initially liked your blog because I thought it was very user friendly and intuitive. The new design is even more so. As long as we are gushing — I also appreciate your ethical approach to couponing. I don't have to worry about you sharing coupons of questionable origin. That is not the other case with other “deal lady” blogs

        There are lots of “questionable” coupons on here. Maybe you haven't run in to them yet. But this site serves as a guide, and Jenny lists them as a “just in case(ie included)”. No one should shop blindly though, even with Jenny's help. Should always read the coupons and make sure they match no matter what site you're using.

      on the buttons at the top (learn to coupon, etc), would be nice if when you hover over them, you could see the content in those sections, and then click on it to link to it….like “store policies”, etc. This would avoid having to go through each button to locate a section you know is there somewhere. Color-scheme is kinda blah :( Otherwise, content is awesome.

      Jenny, I think the new site is beautiful! I think I gasped a little when it first loaded – it was a fun surprise. Love the green, and of course, the squirrel is absolutely adorable!

      I like the new list but my shopping list printouts no longer list the store or the week so I have to manually write them on. Am I missing something?

      • We fixed that over the weekend so hopefully if you print something now, it should have the store and dates there! Let me know if it doesn't though.

      I love the changes! I have noticed that Rite Aid's coupon policy is out of date. With all the new changes they released a new one so, it would be great if we could access the new one on this site. Thank you for all that you do :)

      Let me start off by saying that I absolutely despise change. I have no use for it whatsoever!

      That said I will add a few of my thoughts on your site.

      1. I have never had to sign up or PAY to use this site.

      2. Using this site has saved me hundreds and possibly over one thousand dollars.

      3. Using this site has provided me with the ability to provide things for my family that I had not previously been able to provide.

      My comments on your new site.

      1. I can see that great time, thought, and effort went into producing the new site. Ease of use was definitely taken into consideration as well as making it eye appealing.

      2. Personally I do not like some of the colors. . . I will get over it due to number 1 of the first list.

      3. The old site reloaded itself on my pc. I miss this function as I am lazy and want the pc to do it for me. . . I will get over this too.

      4. There are some links that when clicked upon do not open in a new window (i.e. Coupon Traders) I would like to see this corrected but if you don’t correct then I will get over it.

      5. The coupon database is amazing! I have used others and nothing compares to yours!

      All in all the new site is fantastic!! Jenny you do so very much for so very many and for that I thank you!!!

      I just noticed in the last few weeks that the deals in each ad have gotten shorter and was wondering where the rest of the ad was. I love the site! Sometimes I do need some of the other things that the stores put on sale that may not be the “best” deal. Thank you for teaching me to coupon (I attended a workshop), since January of last year I have cut my grocery bill in half!

        the lists aren't going to have the whole ad, only the best deals. the reasoning is to help those who don't know what the best stock-up price is know that if you see it on the site, it's a good stock-up price. if you want other things, i would check the ad and then go to the database to look for coupons. hope this helps to make sense of it. :)

        I don't know what store you go to, but for a complete Publix ad, you can go to i heart publix dot com. She gets her list for the new weekout on Monday.

      I am always a little afraid of change, too — but as with anything, if you just spend a few minutes actually using it, you'll see the new one is better! The only problem I've had so far is that I can't open the coupon database — my computer always freezes. I've only tried it on the laptop, though, so I'll try it on the desktop, too. It's weird as it seems no one else has any trouble with it…. Oh well. Thanks for all your hard work!

        I have a bit of a problem every time I open the coupon database but after some research (tested it on three other pc's) I found out it the problem is with my pc not the database. I can't afford a new pc so I just work around the error I get

          Yeah, I tried it on the desktop, and it worked fine. So I guess I'll always have to use it instead of the laptop… kind of a bummer since my hubbie's usually on this one! lol

      I love that when you hover over the abbreviations it tells you what they stand for! I think that will really make it easier for folks who are new to the site. :)

      it looks great. it was a little shocking at first, but once you look at it and browse around a little, you can see that it really is better. you are sweet to offer to help those that dont like the new look. lol

      i think the shocker was that we didn't have any idea. i understand that you wanted it to be a surprise, but i had downloaded a new browser and i almost had a heart attack when i first typed in southernsavers and everything was different. lol

      Just wondering.. I have a family of four and been spending approx. $100 total for food and household supplies (cleaning, toilietries, etc. etc.) … how much do you spend for your family size?

        That was about what I was spending for my family of 4 before couponing. Now I average $40-45 a week on groceries. At times this provides food for the week, plus surplus to keep us going longer.

      I love the new layout! It's awesome! I think the new header looks great, too ! I love being able to look at all of the past articles on the side bar and how you don't have to scroll through the pages to see all the articles at a glance. This is one of my favorite new things. There is one suggestion I would like to make and that's, I wish there was a date stamp or something on each article title in the side bar. For those of us who can only come on the website once a day, it would be nice to be able to see a separation of some sort so that way we can click through and know when we've reached the articles from the day before so we're not guessing, “Did I already look at these yesterday?” I would enjoy that feature, but I'm just happy the way it is now. Big improvement! Also, regarding the coupon database…let me just say A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Of course, I have one tiny suggestion. I'd like to see a link where we can report problem coupon links. For example, I searched for 'Greenies' and a printable coupon came up, however, when I clicked on it, it gave me the error message of “Invalid or Missing Parameter.” I hope you don't mind my sharing a couple of thoughts with you. Thanks!

      Jenny, I love the new site, but I have to admit to one complaint: the new font is very hard to read. I know it's sans serif (which is supposed to be easier to read) but when I read your new site I find myself squinting and not staying nearly as long as I used to, just because I can't. :(

      Would you please (please please please) consider returning to a tried-and-true staple, like Times New Roman or one of the other standards?

        Actually, (as a graphic designer, I can tell you with confidence that) SERIF fonts are “easier” to read, not SAN serif fonts. Using Sans Serif for headlines, subheds/deks, pullquotes, and captions (“display copy”) is totally a great idea. However, for large chunks of text (body, lists, longer captions, etc.), it's recommended to use Serifs b/c those “tails” create an imaginary LINE for your eyes to stay/settle on when reading a paragraph or list. Think about it — why are most books' body-text in Serif? Ahhhh-ha…. ;o)

      I love the changes. The coporate coupon policy page needs to include those of us that have a Food Loin that doubles .60 coupons and accepts all competitors coupons.

      Just an FYI, the only button I've clicked on so far that doesn't seem to work is the 'Time Sensitive Deals' at the very bottom of your site. I've tried it a few times and it errors each time. I just wanted to mention it in case you weren't aware of it yet.

      I do miss the links at the top of the emails that would take you right to the part of the email you needed. It helps busy mom be able to continue to use you during hectic weeks.

      Okay, so overall, totally LOVE it, ESP the coupon database!!! I've been waiting for you to come up with that for months!!

      Here's the constructive criticism: When I look at stores list of deals, I feel like I want to zoom out or something to see more at one time, like I'm looking through a tiny window or something. I think the spacing between the lines is too big. The font size is right, if I were to zoom out my screen, it would be too small, but I'm just not seeing enough lines at one time. It makes it hard for me to whiz through the list like I'm used to doing.

      Also, some of the buttons are so light it is hard to know that they are buttons…

      But seriously, terrific work. Really like the scrolling on the Latest Articles section, very good improvement!

      Would it be possible to be able to delete certain coupon matchups on your printable grocery list that you create? I love that I can create my own list, but it would be nice to be able to delete all the coupon match-ups that I don't plan on using, to make my grocery list that much cleaner. Thanks!

        Once I click on “create list”, I right click on the list and select “select all”. Then I right click again and select “copy”. I think paste this onto a word document where I can manipulate it anyway I want to. I usually set my paper to narrow margins, 3 columns, Centry Gothic font (supposidly uses less ink than the other fonts) and font size of 9. This allows me to get my Publix, CVS and WAGS list all on the same page most weeks. Once I've done my coupon matchups, I cut and paste the list in the order that my store is set up in, delete any wording I don't need, take all the bold font off and make the entire list black instead of color. Hope I've written this in an understandable way (I know what I'm trying to say but who knows if I've gotten it across correctly) and I hope it helps.

      The only real problem I have had is that the store name does not print on the grocery lists. That would be really helpful as sometimes I print multiple stores. Thanks for all your efforts and hard work! Rolling out a new website is never easy and this has been well done!

      Jenny…I have a question about the “6-8 week Store Sales Cycle” and “rock bottom prices”. Is there a certain way you mark these on your match-ups, so that newbies like myself can identify them?       I really appreciate all you do for us and I love the new look.I too am having to strain to read the new print,maybe it's a age related thing but the print seems much lighter.I noticed that other's commented about the create list button being hard to find,maybe make it a different color so it will stand out more?If I find I'm missing the magnolia,I'll just go outside and look at my tree.Great job overall on the new look.

      Jenny, I am just now trying to print my first list since you changed the website. My printer is only wanting to print the first page. I thought maybe it was just the store I was on, but it happened on another one also. Is anyone else having this problem. I have never had this problem before. Any suggestions?       I was wondering if you have considered a section for us readers to pose questions to one another. For example, I was looking today to see what a good buy price might be on baby wipes. Im sure you could tell me, but it would be nice to have a section where other readers could chime in. Do you know if there is a forum available on another site?
