Which printer do you have and how often do you use it? We're waiting to get a printer from family, but I hate missing all of the printable coupons and I don't know how much the ink is going to cost! Thanks!

      • Shay Wilson

check on megatoners.com to compare ink prices. My daughter pays about $3.00 a piece for ink. She has an Epson printer.

      • Superjen

I have that model of brother and the toner lasts forever and a refilled one on ebay is about $15. One cartridge lasts me months and I work at home, if you are just printing coupons I'll bet it would last close to a year.

    • Tiffany

I'm curious about the printer too. Is it worht getting just for couponing?

      • Galveston 2000

do not get an epson-v expensive for coupons-

      • Chiefsangeleyes

YES!!! I have the brother HL 2140 and it's amazing. I got in fall for $49 and love it!

    • Tiny

      I LOVE MY BROTHER HL-2140 !!!

      Great Printer information:

    • jagruti

can u please help me to find sally hansen nail color coupons

    • Amy

I also own that exact model of printer and it works great! Prints out everything really fast and doesn't use as much ink as the others.

    • Crystal

Is this in store only? I looked online and don't see the printer at this price for Office Depot.

      • Davisamy74

I think it starts with tomorrow's ad.

    • Christine

Has anyone seen a coupon for office depot or office max to use with the printer that is on sale?

      • Athenasbyshanna

I got a $10 off $50 coupon in email last week but not sure of the expiration date. Office Depot I think

        • Athenasbyshanna

          expires 2/21

          • Syndilew

Does anyone know why I would need a moderator before posting on where to get this coupon?

        • Christine

Bummer….I did not get that coupon. I was wondering if there was a printable one somewhere.??

    • Amandaautrey

Where can you find the mail in rebates for Office Depot??

    • Sue

      Jenny –
I have to respectfully disagree with your statement about how long the toner lasts. I bought the Brother Laser at your recommendation the last time it was on sale – last Nov/Dec, I think – and the toner that came with it is out already. While the printer was only abt $50, the replacement toners are going to be $51-78. I consider myself an average printer, so I am pretty disappointed that the toner is out already. I bought it to replace the inkjet and thought that it would be a much cheaper way to print coupons. Well, if the performance so far is any indication, it is going to take a ton of coupons to break even with the high cost of this machine. The inkjet cartridges were running me about $15 ea and I was replacing them 2-3x per year.

      • Rachel

Things to know before you buy:
        — The starter toner that comes with the printer claims to print abt 700pgs. That sure went fast in our house and I consider us average printers.
        — The starter toner does not have a reset gear, so you can not use an inexpensive toner refill kit ($15ish) to refill it. You have to buy a new toner cartridge first to get the reset gear.
        — There are no “refilled” or after-market toner cartridges available for this model yet (HL-2240). Prices on new toner cartridges start at $35-55 for the 1200pg version (TN-420), but, as stated above, after you buy the first one, you should be able to start using the refill kits.

        • Katkoupon

Do laser printers allow you to adjust to “quick print” like the inkjets do? That seems to save me a lot of ink on the inkjet, just curious if that will help with cost of laser ink too. Thanks for your information, it was helpful!

          • Chiefsangeleyes

Under my print settings there is a DPI settings (dots per inch) and that is the “quick print” equivilent :)

          • Tasha

I'm not sure about this particular printer, but I have a Samsung, and it does have three levels to set it at. However, we set it at medium, and it has already run out, and we just installed it about a month ago. 750 pages sure went fast, if that's really how many it prints. We are above-average printers, but not super-high quantity, and as I said, we switched to mid-grade printing.
Oh and I would definitely search for your toner cartridges on the model you're looking at BEFORE you purchase it. My printer only cost $40 with free shipping, but there are only TWO places we can order cartridges from, Amazon and Samsung, and they both run about $90. Turns out this is a discontinued model. My mistake for not looking into it enough, but yeah, I'm a little miffed.

        • HappyMom

this is all great info – I too bought the printer last year after beginning to print coupons. I too was disappointed when I the replace toner message came up so quickly. How do I know if I have a “starter” cartridge or one that I can refill?? I can keep ignoring the replace toner message as long as it prints the coupons I need! thanks,

      • Stacy

Sue, was the toner actually out (printing blank on the sheet) or did the printer just tell you to change the toner. The Brother printers will tell you to change the cartridge LONG before the toner is actually out. There is a way you can block the sensor so your printer will keep printing with the existing toner cartridge. Go to YouTube.com and search for Brother HL-2140 Toner and the very first video that comes up will show you how to do this. I bought my printer in Sept and by the end of Oct the printer was telling me to change the toner. I covered the sensor and I am still using the same toner cartridge and the pages are printing just fine and I print about 400 pages a month on average. I hope this helps.

        • Susan

I agree with Stacy. I aso bought this printer in Sept. and after covering the holes when the printer “told” me it was out of ink, I have used it for another 3 months and it is still going strong. I have printed a ton of coupons and many other papers as well. I have replacement ink I bought online from meritline.com for around $23 set aside for when it is needed.

      • Athenasbyshanna

Have you tried the tricks that someone posted the last time this printer went on sale? There is some sort of sticker on the toner that when you color over it with a permanent marker, it makes it last longer. Some sort of sensor telling the printer the toner is empty, when it is in fact not. I can't remember the exact instructions but I'm sure if you google it, there will be info and probably also youtube videos on it.

      • melissa

I agree with you, I purchased this at the same time and have already had to replace the toner. I only use this for coupons and feel like I don't even print that many. I also have a yellow light that will not go out and prohibits the printer from working. I contacted tech support and was told this means the drum needs to be replaced. It costs more than I paid for the printer! I would suggest saving money and picking a different printer. I feel like I just wasted over $120 after paying for the printer and a new toner cartridge. I have a really nice paper weight now:)

      • Chiefsangeleyes

While I agree, my initial toner cartridge didn't last long…it was just the “starter” one. And FYI I get my replacement cartridges on Amazon. Join with Amazon mom to get free shipping and the replacements are under $20 for the super high yield one :)

      • Yolanda

I noticed that the toner claimed that it needed to be replaced fairly quickly as well; however, after some online research, I found that if you put two little pieces of electrical tape over the “eye” hole on each side of the toner cartridge and “trick the printer” you'll still be printing. I was skeptical too until I tried it. Still printing fine without replacing the starter cartridge and I bought mine last fall.

    • Kim

This may be a dumb question but is the same printer on sale at both locations? I live closer to Office Depot but will have to travel over an hour to get to Office Max?

    • Alison V.

read the reviews at amazon before you buy. i read that this model has toner cartridge that doeesn't hold as much ink as one of the other models. a comparison of 750 pages vs. 2000 or something. the model number for the one on sale is the HL-2240.

    • Natalie559

Like others stated the model on sale is 2240 and the ones that a lot of us bought last year are model 2140- I wonder if there is a difference??? I love my 2140! I am still on my starter cart and bought this printer around nov last yr.

      • tori729

I taped over mine and it's now giving me the low toner light. Not sure if it's really low but I probably should buy some more just in case.
I think I bought it in … September or something? When it was on sale at Staples. I use it to print coupons all the time.

    • Yolanda

I'm still waiting on my rewards from last fall's sales at Office Depot. Has anyone received theirs already? (Oct – Dec purchases)

      • Motcmom

I was disappointed with the last “recycle print cartridges” deal that we were supposed to get $5 each in rewards for. I recycled 5 and I got a total of …. $2.85 in rewards……what a ripoff! I feel cheated on that one! Anyone have suggestions?

        • Cgholmes31

I think you could only accumulate rewards equivalent to the $ amount you had annually purchased. I nearly put in my ink cartridges to Office Depot for this deal but read the fine print last minute. Staples will credit $2 each cartridge(up to 10 per calendar month) regardless of your spending.

      • Cgholmes31

I am also still waiting on my rewards, hopefully anytime soon.

      • TK

I called the other day and they states it would arrive in 40-60 days, so that could be the end of February.

      • Amy B.

I just received mine this week.

    • AJ

Does anyone know if the $50 off discount when you trade in a printer can be applied to this sale??? It would be almost free if it did! Just curious :o)

    • Amanda

When Jenny says that she hasn't had to replace her ink in two years, does anyone know if she means the toner that came with the printer is still going or after she bought her first replacement toner it has lasted two years?? Thanks!

      • Cindy

You can put tape over the senor (sp?) and the cartridge will keep printing until the toner is really gone.

    • Kris

Which printer do you have? The one @ Office Depot or Office Max. I live closer to Office Depot, but wanted to see which was the best printer for printing coupons? I've been wanting a laser printer for awhile now.

    • Eli

Does anybody know where I can buy Microsoft 2007 at a good price?

      • Jessica

I know I just get my mom to bring a disc home from her office the way they purchase microsoft they are allowed to put it on as many computers as they want and let their employees put it on their home computers. My mom works at a local college, so I'm sure other colleges or places have similar policies.

      • Jen

I don't have a place for Microsoft, however Open Office is a free downloadable program which looks nearly identical to Microsoft. We use it at my work and you can save documents in all sorts of different formats (including Microsoft). It's a great idea if you don't want to pay!

    • Joy

We ordered the Brother printer too. I am afraid to use it too much and will have to buy a new toner. The toners are cheaper online at Christmas. We love the way this Brother prints but I am still using my Lexmark all in one just for coupons. I learned how to refill my own from a ink refill company by removing the entire lid on the Lexmark cartridge #16 and I can refill it well over 20 times for the cost of the ink refill bottle I purchase on Ebay. After over 20-30 times of refilling I simply buy a new cartridge on Ebay. I do not have to worry about ink costs as the ink refill bottle costs me under $8. I have done this for 4 years now and I will never buy all new ink cartridges again.

    • Ladybugpam

Can someone who owns the brother please tell me if it will take 1/3 sheets of paper? I like to print coupons on the scraps left over from printing other coupons. I also hate wasting the ink on an ad that prints after the coupon on the top of the page, so 1/3 sheets work perfectly for me. Unfortunately, the printer I just bought will not take less than a full sheet and I have to replace it with one that does. I'd hate to end up with yet another printer that does not suit my coupon printing needs. Please help me out by letting me know if this brother will take 1/3 or even 1/2 of a sheet, thanks!:)

      • Ctracypa

Yes, I print 1/3 sheets all the time. I love this printer. Be sure to cover the hole on the side and your toner will last twice as long. This is the best printer I've ever used for coupons. I get my toner online at Meritline.com. You won't be sorry with this one.

        • Ladybugpam

thank you so much for your reply:) I went ahead and bought the printer and I am using it now. The smallest size I can get it to print is about 1/2 a regular size sheet of paper by adjusting the tabs inside the tray, that is the smallest the tabs will go. Please tell me how you get this printer to take 1/3 of a sheet. Everytime I try 1/3 of a sheet, the error light comes on. I really hope you will receive this reply!

          • tori729

I can sometimes do it with a third of a sheet, depends on how big the sheet is. I can usually eyeball the sheet and tell if it will get stuck or not. You just have to experiment with it.
