If you live in the Greenville SC area, the Taylors Chickfila is taking boxes from 5-7 Tuesday night. There website says that they will give you a coupon for a free sandwich (one per person). It's also family night, so you can get a free kids meal with each adult combo you purchase.

    • We took our 4 boxes to church last night. My oldest daughter loves to give these boxes and we usually do 4 … one for each of our children. Next year her goal is to give 8! We're going to start a money jar to start saving up to pay for the shipping of the boxes and keep an eye out all year long for item to fill our boxes!

Jenny – is the “best box” contest over? I thought we had until the 15th (today) based on your original post and we finished our shopping and was working on decorations for our themed box when I took a look at the official rules last night and saw the date ending the 12th.

We're still going to finish up our boxes and turn them in tomorrow, but my 5yo worked hard on a special theme this year with inspiration from this contest.

      • You are still good to enter! I forgot to remind folks about that!!

The official rules stated the 12th and said we'd be notified on the 15th. I was so stressed getting it done by the deadline Friday night because of a hectic week. Did it get changed to the 15th? I'm wondering if I should resend my entry because I would have rather changed a few things to make my pictures clearer if I had more time.

Thanks Jenny! We'll finish ours up and send in our pictures by tonight.

Our family purchases shoe boxes and school supplies in July (when supplies go on sale). We are able to put quality items in, and not pay as much! Shoe boxes can be expensive even when shopping at dollar stores and the like. We fill them out in November with all the “other stuff” we want to include.

Dropping off our 4 boxes this week. Me and each of my 3 kids put one together. We have decided that next year our goal is 24-two per month. Having the whole year to find good deals and spreading the expense over a year it should be no problem. What a wonderful ministry. May God use each box to bring at least one person to the Lord.

My daughters class decided to partipate in this program in lieu of the student Christmas exchange in the classroom. We are excited to participate this year and many more years to come. Thank you Jenny for the gift ideas!

    • Yay! My 4 year old and I have had so much fun doing boxes this year. We are just going to finish our letters today and then drop them off tomorrow.

If you are participating in the boxes (or any other charity) this holiday, be sure to leave a comment on my blog (click my name for the link). I am randomly picking 3 charitable readers to each win a $15 Starbucks gift card. Of course it's not why we give, but it is always fun to win a little something! :-)

I just dropped my box off at a local church. They had all kinds of boxes collected from their service yesterday. How very exciting! This was my first year to participate. I do not have children so it was fun to pick an age. Next year I intend to do several and collect items throughout the year for it! Thanks for your help Jenny!

Becuase of couponing we were able to do 10 boxes, 5 girls and 5 boys. we decided after reading that the oldest age group receives the least amount to do all 10-14 year olds. It was really so much fun searching for super cheap items and nifty gifts!

we included: a washcloth, a plastic bowl, a plastic cup, 2 toothbruses, toothpaste, a bell ornament, a plastic bag with a zip(like for pencils) some dum dums, a stuffed animal, dog and mentos gum!

then for the boys, combs, a deck of cards, a little plane they put together, aa matchbox car.

for the girls, we put in a little felt purse, a mini hair brush, deoderant, combs, a headband, a hand mirror, a bracelet, a jumprope.

And they all got a 30inch by 30 inch piece of heavy duty nylon gray fabric.(Someone mentioned fabric was a great item).

anyways, we really had so much fun and definetly plan on doing it again!

I have been doing the shoeboxes, along with angel tree and food pantry, for years, but this year we had to cut back to one due to unemployment. It was still just as wonderful as ever to drop it off!

    • Carra

I took the kids shopping today to fill our boxes. Since I have a 10 year old girl and a 14 year old boy, we decided to do that age group. They had so much fun picking out toys and other goodies for the boxes! We're definitely going to do this again next year!

    • Junkbox4us

Our church which has an avg attendance on Sunday of 150 pledge we would prepare 100 shoe boxes. Several Sunday's ago our pastor actually had people raise there hands on how many they would prepare until he got 100 boxes spoken for. We placed them on the platform each Sunday as they arrived. We had over 200 show boxes yesterday!!!!! What excitement we have been having over just a small token for someone else.

My 13 y/o daughter and I had a wonderful time together packing boxes. Only two challenges- too much stuff for one box- we ended up packing two boxes instead and wrapping those boxes and lids. We will for sure do next year and maybe use the re-usable boxes. Thanks for the encouragement to think of others.

    • Browneyes0124

I really encourage everyone to take part in this! I almost feel guilty when we do it because i always get so much out of it and its about the kids! lol :)
