Going Nuts? I can help you understand coupon terms and abbreviations

This post may contain affiliate links. Read our disclosure here.

These deals start at Publix on 10/21 or 10/22 depending on your area. The deals that are listed are only the items that are at their lowest price or a pretty good price this week. With all grocery ads there are many items that are not good prices that they list.  Do you want Scrubbing Bubbles at $1.50 ea this week or 39¢ ea two weeks ago?

Example of a bad deal in this weeks ad:
Fresh Mahi Portions, 6 oz $5.99 ea

This “deal” makes the Mahi $15.97 per lb!!! The wholesale dock price for Mahi Portions is around $3.35 lb. A good price for us to strive for is $6-$7 lb.  So don’t buy everything just because they put it in print.

If you are new  read up on what all this means and how to effectively use this list to save the most.

Has anyone tried the Pillsbury Savorings? If so what are they, and do they taste good?

      • julie

I totally loved the Pillsbury Savorings!!! Such a yummy appetizer! Will totally buy them again!

      • Gerri

I really do like the Pillsbury Savorings. They were just a little spicy which I liked. But my hubby thought it was too much. He likes his food very bland.

      • Jen S

They are awesome! We really like the pepperoni and the buffalo chicken flavors, but I’ve been told that all of the flavors are great.

      • Melisa

The spinagh ones are also incredible! They taste a little like spanakopita (greek). The buffalo ones are good too. That’s all I’ve tired. They quick, easy and good!!! Buy some while they are on sale! LOL

      • Michelle

Well, taste is relative to each individual. My husband and I don’t really care for them and will not get them even if close to free. I say if is a good deal go ahead and try them though!

      • Wende

No one in our house liked them out of all 5 of us. We will not even buy them for free as we threw the last ones out. We got soemthing to do with Pepperoni.

        • lynn

no one in our house liked them either i also would not get them again but if you have never tried them now would be a good time..

      • We tried the peperoni and buffalo chicken varieties. My husband and I didn’t care for them. They weren’t actually bad, they just weren’t very good, which is disappointing because they sounded so yummy! The rest of them sat in the freezer until I finally gave up and threw them out to make room for other things. I won’t pay for them but if they were completely free I might give them a second chance.

Go ahead and give them a try, your family might like them!

        • I have got to join in with those of you who did not care for these! I have a family of five and we pretty much all agreed that these would be on our list of what NOT to buy again! I wouldn’t get them for free but like others have said if you haven’t tried them and feel you need to, then try them while they are cheap! If you don’t try them just cosider it as YOU are not missing a thing! LOL

      • Brittany

I do NOT like spinach. Never have. But the Spinach Savorings are amazing! I had a clothing swap last month with 6 women and 1 toddler, and the Savorings were the first food to go… before the sweets, cheeses, or veggies!

        • Brittany

Oh, and even the 2 year old loved them- she ate 3 and passed on her cookie.

    • Andrea

I just wanted to say that you’re like, my hero. Thank you Jenny!

    • Crystal Ray

I got them for almost free and I couldnt be paid to eat them again! :(

      • Melissa

        I totally agree!!

        • Amanda K

          I don’t like them either

          • Michelle in Martinez

            Me neither!

            • roxanne

They were served at a gathering of a friend the other night. Yuck! Too spicy, flat tasing. :(

      • Jessica

The Jalapeno cream cheese bread bowls are GREAT if you like Jalapeno poppers, the other savorings that aren’t bread bowls aren’t terrible but are not something I would pay a lot for! They are good for a quick fix.

        • Christine

Someone brought them to a party and I thought they were greasy tasting and not great.

    • AmyG

Okay,, the check boxes are not popping up for me! UGH>> i will wait until the am

      • AmyG

yeah! They came up! Thank you for all you do Jenny.. Can’t wait to see you on Nov 12! Can;t believe you are coming to my church!

    • Stephanie

As much as I LOVE all the good buys I have been getting lately I am glad it is going to be a small shopping week for me! Maybe I can catch up on some rain checks.

      • Momof2 (Greer, SC)

I am so with you this week Stephanie. I have no where to store by good deals anymore. The only thing I plan to stock up on this week is Ground Beef which will be 99 cents a pound. Any ideas on how to avoid freezer burn?

        • Abby

I have the reynolds freezer/vaccuum bags….I love it!

        • Melisa

Ziplock 2 ply freezer bags are good too.

        • Damien

Ground Beef at .99/lb… is this a deal at another store??? I did not see this listed here, so I am guessing it is another store.

Oh and I have used just regular zip-lock bags before and just made sure to squeeze out all the excess air, but you can use the freezer bags to be extra sure. Just NEVER leave in the original store packaging!

          • Freedom

Only thing I see is Food Lion
73% Lean Ground Beef, 98¢ lb

          • Amanda

Ground beef is .99 at Piggly Wiggly this week.

            • Damien

Ahh, I so have never been to the Piggly Wiggly in Montgomery and never even think about the ol’ Piggly Wiggly. I will most def have to check out that deal. Thanks for the heads up Amanda.

        • Anda

This may sound a little crazy, but I wrap my meat in aluminum foil or wax paper, then wrap it in plastic wrap one way and then go back over it the other way with plastic wrap and then place it in a ziploc bag.

        • Heather

I cook my hamburger meat as soon as I get it & freeze it fully cooked. I put about 1 lb into a ziploc & then when I need to fix something really quick I take it out of the freexer & break it up & dump it in Spaghetti sauce or use it in hamburger helper. Saves a ton of time waiting on something to thaw out.

        • lynn

where is ground beef 99 cents a pound i would love to buy it that price did i miss something ion the ad?

    • Jenny,

There’s another Muir Glen printable on their Facebook page. It let me print it again, so I’m assuming it’s a different link.

It’s in the left hand column here:

      Yeeha! More free tom. sauce!

      Miss ya!

      • Jenny

Thanks Melanie! It’s good to see you around here, it’s been a long time :)

      • Joy

Thanks for the Muir Glen FB tip. Got those too!! Yeah free tomato sauce!

    • Laura

Thanks for the tip on the savorings! I have always thought about trying them but they don’t seem all that appealing ~~ now I know that I am not missing out! :)

    • Mina

Yay! I’m with Staphanie. Since there’s nothing on the list that I need, I was also thinking that it should be a good time to clear out some of these rainchecks.

    • robin

Where did the coupon for 1.00 off of Neosporin lip come from? It would have to be a store coupon to be used with the B1G1F since the B1G1F is a man. coupon. Thanks for your help.

    • Taylor

-Jenny, I tried to do this deal at Publix in Lexington S.C and they told me No I could not do it.How do I get them to change their mind or tell them that you can .The Manager even told me no so what can I do.I hate todrive way out of my way to another store but if I have to I guess I will.Should’nt the managers know about the Q’s??

      • Denise

I was able to use the B1G1 and the $3Q on Saturday night in Lexington. I didn’t have a problem, I did it twice. Try it again!

      • Amy Edwards

Had the same problem. All of the coupons are manf. coupons, so no, technically we should not be able to use more than one on the same product =( But . . . I used the B1G1 coupon and bought 2 of the lip health products anyway, and I think it’s great. I have been using it religiously =)

      • Ann

You should be able to use the BIGI and the -1 off together. One for each item. I did the BIGI and the -3 off and it worked. I would try again with a different cashier.

      • Kayla

I work at Publix in FL, and a BOGO coupon applies to both items. So you can’t use the $1 off as well, because technically you are already using a coupon towards that item.

      • Susan

I used the Green Advantage Buy B1G1 and two $1 off coupons in Cumming, GA on Wednesday night and didn’t have a problem. Used the products last night and today and they are great!! I’ll be going back to get as many as I can!

    • Laura K

LOL, I love your pep talks.

    • KJ

I just wanted to say thanks so much for your website, it’s been very helpful with getting me started with you how to guides. I feel like such an idot for wasting money that I didn’t have to waste for so long. I’m a single girl, and it’s hard to make ends meet sometimes. I have clipped coupons before, but never realized how important all the other aspects are and how it all fits together with making a list of things you need that are on sale already. I guess I just never took the time to think about it all.

Tonight I spent 3.28 at CVS, and got two boxes of mulit grain cherios, a gallon of milk, a bag of goldfish and a small bottle of excedrin. I used my extra bucks and felt like I robbed the store!!! But in a good way :)

      • Carolin

I’m a single girl too. I’m always showing my coworkers with families all of the money that I save using coupons. Most of them think that it takes too much work and only single people can save lots of money.

        • Apryl

I am not a single girl, but I have a family of 5 on 1 income, and it is also hard to make it to the next paycheck sometimes. But we have been doing much better since I started couponing. I have been telling everybody about it, and most people won’t even give it a try, they think it takes way too long, and is way too difficult. I especially want my dad (who is 57, got laid off over a year ago, and is living on unemployment) to give it a try. He has so many excuses. I wish we lived in the same state (he lives in Oregon), and then I would drag him to the grocery store so he could see how easy it is!

    • SHERRY

today my husband saw your website for the first time. He was shocked at the amount of work you put into it. It told him that without you, I would still be shopping at walmart! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! Your website is the biggest blessing and I have shared it with many others, and even ladies in Publix that want to know how I do it. I tell them I don’t do it, SouthernSavers.com does!!!

    • Ashley

I am not sure where the link is but there was a $3.00 of 5 Quaker Products somewhere on the BiLo site, This would make them $.89 a piece!

      • Denise

Where do you go on the BiLo website to find the q’s? I’ve found them one time. I can’t seem to get to the right page…Help!

        • Ashley

I am not sure where the coupon is, I think that there was a link on an older Publix list but Im not sure which one.. Maybe back at the end of August

          • Denise

Ok, thanks for your help. I’ll keep trying…

            • Lana

Look under Promotions on the Bi-Lo site. It could be there. I always check that area because there are sometimes deals that I haven’t heard about.

      • Keren

The Quaker coupon was also printed in last weeks Bi-Lo ad.

      • Jenny

I added the direct link above in the list.

        • Ashley

          Thanks Jenny

    • Kevin

On the Ritz crackers can you buy 2 boxes and then use both a -$1/2 coupon AND a Free Ritz Crackerfuls wyb Ritz Crackers coupon?

      • Anne Marie

I am pretty sure you can use 2 of the free Crackerfuls coupons! I did it at my Publix the last time these were on sale.

        • Kevin

But what about the $1 off 2 boxes of Ritz crackers? Can I use that one as well?

So I can get 2 boxes of Ritz crackers, 2 boxes of crackerfuls and then use 3 total coupons:
          1 – $1 off 2 Ritz
2 – Free crackefuls wyb Ritz

          • Lana

            Yes, you can do that.

          • Teresa

no you would really have to buy three ritz crackers if you wanted to use both coupons, unless your cashier doesnt notice, but I dont think that’s very ethical to do anyway.

            • Lori B.

I used the $1/2 Ritz & 2 free crackerful wyb 1 box coupons. I bought 2 boxes of Ritz crackers (the $1/2 Q was for those) & 2 boxes crackersfuls (the Q states 1 box free wyb 1 box Ritz & I bought 2 boxes of Ritz so I used 2 Q’s w/ no problem). My cashier was impressed. :)

      • Denise

You should be able to use all 3 coupons. Each Ritz cracker will ring up for half off, now if you are in Florida, it might not work.

      • Joy

I used 2 of the ritz $1/2 for buying 4 boxes and also used 3 of the free crackerfuls.I also used 6 of the honey bunches of oats and got them for free and 6 of the .50 coupons on pickles and paid .10 each. I ended up paying just a little over $6.00 and saved over $54.00. Plus, I can keep my receipts and turn in on the nabisco rebate when I have 10 boxes.

    • Joy

Does anyone know if the $10.00 rebate on the 10 boxes of nabisco boxes have to be purchased in 1 transaction?

      • Anne Marie

No. I sent them several receipts and got mine quite some time ago. There is something wrong with whoever is processing the rebates though. I got a postcard in the mail saying I didn’t buy enough products, which I did. I called Nabisco, the number is on their website and they said they would look into it. I got an email a few days later saying the check was mailed. A lot of other people got the same postcard, but all got their checks. HTH

    • I am SICK of stores nearly doubling their normal pricing when they run b1g1’s. It should fall under false advertisement. (Just my humble opinion)

      • Also, in response to your “bad deal” on the Mahi. Food lion has Mahi for $4.99 a lb!!!

        • Jenny

I laughed very hard as I typed that out after working on the Publix list. I’m glad you noticed! Publix would say the difference is the FL one is frozen and theirs has never been frozen, but that’s a lot to pay for fish.

          • Christy

I have to say, I’ve actually seen the clerk in the fish department go to the frozen section, grab a bag and add it to the case of ‘fresh’ fish. So much for that excuse!

    • Some of the CVS stores have peelie coupons on their M&M/Mars Fun Size Candy bags. I peeled them all off and used my $1/2 instead and I’m using the 0.50 peelies at Publix where they will be doubled. It’s 0.50 off 1 bag. Also, if you have a Bloom nearby, you can take it there and get the M&M/Mars bags for 0.49 after the coupon is tripled!!!

      • Lana

Please don’t be a peelie stealer!

        • Lana

Sorry! I think you meant that you purchased the M&M’s.

          • Don’t worry. I only peeled off the ones I was purchasing. That irritates me to NO END when people steal coupons off of things. I would NEVER do that…

      • I did the same thing @ Target last week! They had 50 cents off 1 coupons on the M&M/Mars bags and I had $1/2 manufacturers & Target to stack, so I used the $1/2 and was hoping for a deal @ Publix to double them! I left them on the bags so I wouldn’t lose them, and the cashier didn’t say a word about them (and she hadn’t looked at my stack of coupons either to know I already had some for that product)…kind of scary that there can be coupons attached and they just ignore them!

    • Molly

I just stopped by my Publix to snag the BOGO on the Chef Boyardee. I had ten coupons for the BIG bowls and was so excited to be getting them free. There was no BOGO tag on the shelf for the bowls, just the cans, but I read the tag and it said “14.5 – 15 oz size” and the big bowls are 14.5. At the checkout they rang up 2/$3 and I asked the lady to double check to see if these qualified for the BOGO since they were 14.5 oz. It was a no go. I was told (by the manager) that it was the 14.5 oz. CANS and not the BOWLS that qualified. So they voided my transaction and gave me back my qs. Boo!!

      • Natasha

Tell me about it!!! I didn’t even try it b/c I am new at this coupon thing but I was upset b/c I was sooo excited to get them for free and then really let down b/c I couldn’t use them but that’s ok I will take my business to Bloom where they triple the coupon and get them pretty cheap.

    • Melissa

Hi everyone! Question about the Neosporin Lip Health–if I use the B1G1 coupon in the green advantage flyer, could I also use 2 $3 off coupons and get overage?

      • Jenny

If you are only buying 2, then you can use the B1G1 and (1) $3 off coupon. The B1G1 counts as the manufacturer coupon for one item and the $3 off for the second.

        • Melissa

Gotcha–I knew that sounded too good to be true! Thanks Jenny–you have helped me save a TON of money since I’ve started following Southern Savers!

    • lynn

Jenny the little added hints you gave are awsomer this might help those who ask what is a good deal thanks a million as always you have out done yourself

    • Chef Boyardee, 14.5-15 oz. can, at $1.50 (75¢)

There was a coupon that I have printed before $1 off one. It is the time to use it if you have that coupon. You makes $ 0.25 per can

      • Chef Boyardee, 14.5-15 oz. can, at $1.50 (75¢)

There was a coupon that I have printed before $1 off one. It is the time to use it if you have that coupon. You make $ 0.25 per can

    • JEB

Can I use a Target catalina Q at Publix? I have one for Electrasol/Finish that I could combine with a manufacturer Q…

      • Jenn

All the Catalinas that I have received have been Manf. coupons. If your is a manf. coupon then you can use it, but not combined with another manf. coupon. If it is a store coupon, then it depends if your grocery store accepts Target coupons.

    • Paige

I just wanted to say thanks so much for your website. I am saving between 50% and 80% each week. I can’t thank you enough!

    • Val

Can anyone tell me what zip code works for the Playtex Living gloves? Jenny posted the link, but I don’t see, and I have tried several zip codes. Thanks.

      • Jessica

I printed the playtex living gloves with my zip code, 29461. I printed it a few days ago, so hopefully it will still work for ya.

    • Maureen

Does anyone know Publix policy for considering Harveys a competitor? I thought I read something once about the competitor store needing to be a certain number of miles from a Publix to be considered a competitor???

      • Jenny

For most stores they will say a 5 mile radius. Harvey’s are mostly in GA so you might be in luck if their is one in your area.

      • Jean

my publix in charleston, sc said that they will not take any harvey’s coupons because there is none in the area.

    • tina

Thanks for posting all the store ad’s…Nothing here for me either..Might be just a Ritz week for me.

    • Anyone else having trouble with the Honey Bunches of Oats coupon?

      • Mollie

        I am…it says print limit reached :(

        • Jenni

Glad I got n there and got mine printed

    • Slow week for me at Publix, maybe it will give my pantry a chance to breathe! Thanks for all your hard work, Jenny!

    • Thanks for ALL that you do! I have been saving so much and my husband and I are beginning to save to pay off our garage! I’m so thrilled with this and you are the one helping us to do so. I also got laid off a few months ago and it’s helping with that also! Thanks agian!!!

    • Maria

Jenny, you mention that Publix doubles manufacturer coupons .50 cents or less. Do they double competitors’ coupons?

      • No…competitor & store coupons don’t double, just manufacturers.

    • Betty

      -$1 off Neosporin printable
B1G1 Neosporin Lip Therapy Publix Green Advantage Buy (manf coupon)
-$3 off Neosporin Lip Health printable (limit reached ————-Jenny ,I called Publix today and talked to the manager and he said that it was Publix policy NOT to do this that you could NOT use 2 q’s when you have a q that says BOGO,dont know why I dont understand why you can not use 1 coupon on each item(like $1.00 the first and then BOGO on the 2nd) But he told me NO and he also said that he knew this website very well and said that you help to get alot of people to shop at publix,so if it is not policy for Publix to do this why is it on here that you can?Am I missing something?

      • Jamie

the manager at the Publix I shop at said they would honor both the $3 off and the B1G1. She said that as long as she is not giving me money back that they will honor all three coupons since it was manufacture and store

        • amy

Publix in Franklin TN said no. Manager explained that you can use 1 b1g1 coupon (manuf cpn) OR 2-$1 off (or 2-$3off). Regular price $4.49 each. B1g1 you pay $2.24 each. If you use the $3 off then you pay $1.49 each.

    • alisha

i don’t see the -$1 off pillsbury savorings ss 9/13 that i have. do you know which one they were in? i looked on ebay as well but only saw $.55 off being sold. thanks!

      • Carrie

I looked for that same coupon today but could only find .55 cents off as well.

    • Stefanie

I noticed the Q’s you have listed for Kid Cuisine. I got some recently out of the paper, not sure which week. But they are $1/2 and expire on 11/7/09. :)

    • Megan1980

Has anyone had a problem with the Bob Evans side dish coupons? I tried at 2 different Publix to get the BOGO deal and use a coupon for each, but the register says coupon limit exceeded and they will only take one. Is this coupon a one per transaction deal? Has anyone else had this problem?

    • Micheal

I am having trouble finding the Tombstone Qs that are from SS 9/27. I checked the weekly inserts and they are not listed on that particular coupon insert. Can someone please help? Thanks.

    • Melissa

The Bob Evans hash browns and potatoes are b1g1 here in Chattanooga and not considered a side so they did not accept my coupons. May be regional where the sides are actually b1g1 in some places.

      • Freedom Ellis

I used 2 this evening on 2 at Publix in Ooltewah no problem.

        • Melissa

I was at Ooltewah Publix to and they would not take them:( May try again.

    • FT

I’m not sure if anyone of you like the Springer Mountain chicken but at my Publix in North Florida, the chicken is on sale for 4.99/lb. There was a $1.00 coupon in last week’s (10/18) insert.

    • Chrissy

I’ve determined that I will fulfill my Proctor and Gamble Pink Kitchen Set Giveway spending at Publix. With that said, had anybody come up wtih a game plan for this giveaway? I appreciate your thoughts!

    • Andrea

Slow week, but that’s ok because I got alot of good deals last week. I will, however, be stocking up on the .50 Publix soft drinks. They are VERY good. It’s surprising for store brand cola.

    • Stacy

I just noticed that Food Lion has store coupons for Pringles that can be used at Publix this week, along with the manufacturer coupons that Jenny has listed:

Pringles Potato Crisps, 5.71-6.42 oz., $1.33 ea
-$1/2 Pringles fat free cans PG 9/27
      -$1/4 Pringles cans PG 9/27

Go here to get your $1/2 FL coupon:

    • has anyone had trouble printing the ritz $1/2 Q. mine will load and the que will only go about 1/4 of the way and then it won’t go any further. happens on both ff and safari.

    • Tina

How do I get the Q for plater nuts? Thanks

    • Candace

I have a question. I have $10 off two boxes of huggies publix coupon. Can I use a $3 off hugiies publix coupon with that?
      Thanks for the help!

      • Freedom Ellis

Yes you can since the $3 is a store coupon.

      • Kayla

If both of them are Publix coupons, no you may not. You can use a manufacturer and a Publix, but not two Publix.

        • Freedom

Sorry, i didnt see that the $10 ones were store as well. Oops

      • Jenny

I’m finding (unless I did some kind of math wrong) that using the Huggies (size 5, 70 diapers per box) deal at Publix this week is better than Bi-lo. There is a $3 coupon in the ad and if you pair that with a $1.50 coupon, it works out to be .21 a diaper compared to Bi-lo’s .28 in a Jumbo pack (27 diapers in a pack).

    • Jan

My sister lives in Louisiana. Do you know a website that she can go to like yours that will have the good deals at her area grocery stores?

Thanks for all you do, this is great.

    • Jackie from Palm Coast

So I stopped by the store today to grab milk and some 2 liters of Publix soda and they werent .50 cents they were still .79. I checked the ad and it didnt mention anything about them being .50 and Im wondering if its just because im in Florida? I was going to stock up and am not sure whats going on. If anyone has been to a Publix around Palm Coast, Fl or St Augustine, Fl and they are on sale let me know!

    • Chris

Our Publix doesn’t have the Wonka candy B1G1. Has anybody seen this?

      • Colleen

Yes, I stopped at a Publix on my way home from work yesterday…not my normal Publix & one I definitely DON’T prefer to shop at, and they ALSO didn’t have it…and when I asked the manager at the Customer Service desk, she did absolutely nothing and was no help at all.

        • Danielle

I couldn’t find any of the candy. The manager said I could get the smaller bags for BOGO since they wouldn’t be getting any more seasonal candy in the store. Of course the bags were smaller than my coupons listed, so I couldn’t use those, but I did pick up a few of the smaller bags.

    • Mendy

If anyone needs formula and your store will take Walgreens and Babies R Us coupons (the one in Harvest, AL does) you can get three 24 oz+ cans of Enfamil Gentlease Next Step formula and two boxes of single packets for $.54 plus get a $10 gift card if you go by Saturday (10/24).

Buy (3) 24 oz cans of the gentlease next step formula at $16.49/can (there are others but they’re more expensive–the AR Lipil is over $25/can)
Buy (2) 16 ct enfamil formula packets

Use (5) $5/1 mf q from the newspaper or the Enfamil website–says it can be used on any powder including the individual packets (they’re actually in the picture too)
Use (1) $10/2 enfamil publix q from the baby club mailer last month
Use (2) buy one powder get one packet box free publix qs from the baby mailer (I received two copies of the mailer for some reason)
Use $3/1 walgreens q from this week’s sale ad–says “limit 3” so you can use the same coupon for all three cans of formula
Use buy 3 cans get $10 gift card q from babies r us weekly ad–my store will let me use 2 competitor qs like this since they’re not both $ off, I don’t know if others will
      Use $5/25 Rite Aid q

Pay $49.47 for the 3 cans (+ ~$20 for the two boxes)
      -$25 mf q
      -$10 publix q and -$20 (2) publix free boxes q
      -$9 walgreens q
      -$5/25 rite aid q
= $0.47 plus get a $10 gift card good on your next purchase

if you don’t have two formula packets qs, it’s still only $5.47 for three formulas, one box of packets and you still get a $10 gift card back.

      hope this helps!

    • Leah

I was shopping at Publix yesterday. I bought about 20 items and had coupons for all of them but 2. The cashier stopped me as soon as she saw I had coupons. She said they had had a “BIG” meeting and that all coupons were now going to be scrutinized by the cashiers. It took her 10 minutes to ring me up and she read every coupon and looked at each item. She accepted all of the coupons but it definitely felt like they were trying to discourage coupon use.
Just wanted to give everyone a “Heads Up”. This store was located in Lexington, SC.

      • lynn

They have been doing this at my publix fora while now so i am use to it they are not allowed to bag the grocerys till all the coupons have been verified….. i try to tell the person in line behind me that they may want to go to another line … not that big of a deal if you match your coupons up right just dont go couponing if you are in a hurry….i also am glad for a slow week time to make room for the holidays

      • Regan

I had the same problem,I think that I am going to shop at another store. It took all of 15 min for 15 items.I had all of my Q’s in a row but they were rude ,the boy that was bagging my stuff looked at the people in line behind me and shook his hesd and said “sorry”.I was like gee sorry for what? Then to top it all off they would not take the BOGO and $1.00 off the H.E shampoo. It was not a nice trip at all, maybe better luck at another store??This was at the Publix in Lexington S.C. I hope that they will get a little nicer:)

      • Kelly

Same here at Lee branch in b’ham. Took FOREVER and I will be shopping at another location from now on or even a different store altogether if they are going to discriminate against couponers.

      • I get that, too. So, I’ve started putting all my coupon items out first and laying the coupons out on top of them. That way, they can verify as they ring up and it goes by much faster and they’re much nicer for the bit of help.

      • Janae

The Publix I go to in Simpsonville, SC did the same thing to me. The lady went through every coupon and matched up to the items. The coupons that stated “do not double or triple” she set aside to make sure she voided when it automatically double’s it. She took forever. I shop with a 17 month old & 4 month old… Yet, I went a time after that and a younger guy didn’t check any coupons and it was no hassle. I guess it depends on the cashier. One time, an assistant manager was ringing me up and wasn’t going to let me use the competitor’s coupons, but the cashier behind us said, “oh, yes u can use them”. Thank goodness for here. The manager was rude.

      • Kristina

Don’t feel bad. I had that happened to me yesterday at a local grocery store. They would not accept my printed coupons. The cashier didn’t say anything and went straight to the manager. The manager denied the coupon. Although I had about 20 items, I told them that I no longer wanted them and walked out the store.

      • P in Athens

I just wanted to let you all know that I am a frequent user of this website and also work for Publix. I spoke with the manager at our store last night about issues at other stores and comments that are left here. I requested that he speak with our corporate offices and ask them to look over the blog comments. Hopefully, they will work to get all of our stores to use more consistent standards.

Also, if someone is really rude to you go to Publix.com and file a comment regarding the treatment you receive. I try to go out of my way to be nice to all of our couponers. I am responsible for a lot of them because I frequently give this site out to customers. I do have a few couponers that make the rest of us look bad. The only way we can make things better is for our customers to let us know when we are doing thing right and wrong.

I don’t see the Tombstone SS 9/27 coupons in my batch. Does SS adjust coupons based on location? I’m in Atlanta area.

    • Stephanie

Does publix charge extra to ground the beef, if I bought the whole sirloin tip?

      • Jenny

They do not charge anything at all to cut any type of meat you would like :) Get the whole Pork Loin and have them slice it even, saves you the time and the mess!

    • Ashley in FL

I went to Publix yesterday for a quick trip, and bought the Mt Olive pickles. Only the relish is B1G1 at my store. Just ensure you look at the register when you check out!!

    • debbie

There is also a Harvey’s coupon for $1 off 2 cans of pringles. You can stack this with a manufacturer q. if your store takes Harvey’s.

      • debbie

        It’s actually a Foodlion q. Sorry

    • Victoria

Like Micheal and Theresa above, I am looking for the Tombstone pizza coupons but not seeing them in the 9/27 SS batch? I am in the ATL area too…does anyone know where I might find them?

I am fairly new to this site (last 3 weeks) and am LOVING it! I never bothered with coupons before because I was overwhelmed with the mess and figuring out what to use where. Thanks Jenny for doing all this work! My husband has been impressed with all my good & free buys!

    • Lisa

I’m new to upromise and have a question – if I buy more than one weight watcher’s item can I use more than one upromise coupon? How does that work?

      • UPromise coupons are only applied once. So even if you buy 5 of the same thing, you’ll only get credit once.

      • Rebecca

I used to do the kroger pre-loadable coupons all the time, and it used to be that you could buy one per shopping trip and then re-load it when you got home to get the deal again the next time. Not sure if that’s the way it still works or not, but you should be able to figure it out after you buy it and then go home and look online to see if it’s available to re-load. Hope that helps.

      • marina

the upromise coupons take a couple of weeks to process. (at least mine do) So by the time you see the money in your account weeks have passed and you’ve already forgotten about it.

    • Jenni

There are $1 off 2 kid cuisine coupons inside boxes. They are only good for the new hot dog and chicken sandwich meals. The boxes are not marked and the coupon is taped inside onto the meal tray.

      • Jenni

The kids each had a meal but only one had the coupon in it.

    • Went to Publix yesterday and had 4 coupons from Target for .50 off Chewy Granola Bars B1G1 and a Bi_Lo coupon for $3.00 off if you buy 5. I bought 5 packages of these granola bars for .50

      • Jenni

        i got that deal to

      • Mary

Do you mean .50 each box of bars??

        Or does your store double??

        • Jenni

          My target coupons were not doubled. The granola bars were 2.99. So the sale made them 1.50/box. 5 boxes = 7.50, $3 quaker coupon => 4.50, 5 $.50 target coupons = 2.50 => $2.00, that’s .40/box.
          Regular price = 2.99
          Sale = 1.25

          5 boxes = 7.50
          -quaker Q =3.00
          Subtotal = 4.50
          -5 target .50 q = 2.50
          total = 2.00 or .40/box

          • Mary

Thanks for the math… I was just in shock as I thought you got them all for .50 Total!

            Thanks again

    • Melinda

Our Publix has the Quilted Northern at $6.49 and not $5.99. There were some other things that were off some. Overall, I did not get too much at publix this week. The cashier was not very nice either.

    • My Publix doesn’t have Totino Pizza Rolls B1G1F? Has anyone else had this problem? I shop at the Lexington,SC store.

      • Jenni

Mine doesn’t say buy one get one however it does say 2 for 3.99.

    • ~*Brook*~

Anyone know if the All Laundry Detergent ever goes on B1G1?

      • Jenni

Yes it does. Last week i think, maybe the week before, there were 2 different stores that had it bogo. However, just about everywhere has started charging right at if not more than $5 for the 32 load bottle. I think My publix actually showed the original price at 5.49. So bogo would only get it down to 2.50 (or more), so an extra .49 (if even that much). I usually buy the big 96 load bottle for around $12 then $1 or $2 coupon, so $10 for 96. Break that down to $3.33 for 32…so this sale already saves me .33 per 32. I can now use 3 $1 q’s (instead of the one on the big bottle) so my total price for the normal 96 load becomes $6. This was pretty good for me since nfortunately the other stores don’t carry the kind I use. I check everytime they are bogo but they never have it. I have to use the HE Free and Clear. Not a whole lot of places carry it, even in the 96 load.

    • Jenni

Meant to add that I don’t know what my ad says, but this was a sign on the freezer case. So it works out the same.

    • Elizabeth Buchanan

I have a question about target coupons. My coupons for target were not accepted at my publix today. They told me that they were getting denied. Does anyone know whether they will or won’t be accepted or is it per each publix? Thanks,

      • LindaB

Each store can set their own policies as to who they consider a competitor. It is always a good idea to know the policies of the particular store you are in. Just ask at the courtesy booth, and remember the name of the person you spoke with!

        • Danielle

My target coupons were denied today too. They said corporate came and cracked down on it and a few ppl were written up for letting them go through. I had about $5 worth today that I couldn’t use!

    • Judi

Please tell me how to start receiving the TOTAL CARE home mailer. I’ve seen references to it several times while reviewing the Publix weekly ads and have yet to discover how to get on the mailing list.

Love your website! The savings we experience increases every week!

      Judi V

    • Cristina

Today at Publix I forgot to ask for my Penny item and they didn’t offer it. Can I go back today or tomorrow and get it? Will they give it to me?

Thanks for you web site, I’m saving a lot of money thanks to you! :-)

    • amy

Spring Hill TN Publix visit- Tried the quaker bars deal. bought 4 boxes. Used 2 manufacters coupons $1/2. Tried to use 4 target $.50/1 coupons-no go. The cashier explained that target web coupons state 1 coupon per transaction. So I used 1 target not 4.

Also, spring hill tn publix customer service stated no walgreens coupons or register rewards allowed

      • Jenni

Now that you say that, I remember that there is something on this site about that and not asking publix to take more than one at a time. OOPS.

    • Amy

I have seen the Muir Glen spaghetti sauce on the list for the last couple of weeks and I have 6 coupons for it, but when I go to the store it’s not on sale. This has happened with a couple of products. How do I know if the sales on the list are the same as the sales at my publix? Thanks!

      • Jenny

The Muir Glen is actually not a sale item but the regular price for the tomato paste and sauce is right around $1.

      • becky

this happened to me too. there wasnt a jar of sauce that was $1. i looked for it. the smallest jar was $3.69. i was so disapointed bc i thought i was getting free sauce. what type of container is the $1 one in????

        • Julie

The items Jenny is talking about are the canned tomato sauce and tomato paste, not spaghetti sauce.

    • Kay

There is a $4/1 Knox product coupon on Redplum.com (try 90210). Additionally, you can print an extra one (1) from their website for a total of three (3). The Knox gelatin, on the aisle near jell-o gelatin boxes, are priced at $1.39ea….that’s $2.61 overage for each box, if your store allows. So even with it being a rather slow week, you can use the overage to grab a couple of items that are still rather high, even with a coupon, such as the Quilted Northern tissue.

      Reaping In Abundance,

      • Jenny

Note: Many stores will not allow this kind of overage since it is not the manufacturers intention to pay for large chunks of your groceries. If your store says no, then buy 3 boxes of gelatin and get all three Free with one coupon.

        • The Knox product coupon says good only for purchase of products indicated which I suppose is suppose to be the Nutra Mix or Nutra Joint that is in the picture on coupon? So how is this working on Gelatin? I am a little confused on that as I have never seen $4 gelatin?? Just don’t want to get “called out” for trying to get gelatin with this coupon if that is not what it is for. Thanks for any imput on this matter.

    • Aymie

Does anyone know the regular price of Dove Body wash?
I have a Publix coupon for $1.50 off and a manu coupon for $1.50 off of one bottle.
We need body wash, if it is close to $3 then I get nearly free body wash! Anyone know the price?

    • Michelle

The coupons from the Betty Crocker site (Gen Mills cereal, Muir Glen tomatoes) are not printing for me – once I click Print clipped, I get an error message from their site. Anyone else having this problem? I’ve tried last night and this morning.

    • Judy

Does anyone know if Lexington SC publix accepts target coupons? Thanks!

      • Jenny

There are not any Publix stores in the Midlands that take Target coupons. Sorry.

    • Ln

I am concerned about the $2 All detergent coupon. It says it can be used on 96 load or larger. I didn’t think it could be used on the smaller 32 oz. bottle that is 2.99, but it’s listed above. Please help.

      • Jenny

When I search for coupons in the databases most of the details aren’t there just the coupon info. No, please don’t use the 96 load on the 32oz bottle.

        • Ln

          Thank you!

        • Jenni

I know that I was quite excited when the listing of coupons for the Sunday paper included a couple of weeks ago a $2 coupon for the 32 load bottle ($3 for the 96 load bottle). Alas, in my paper it was $1 on the 32 load. So maybe that is where the $2 comes from?

          • Jenny

After a little research there are 4 locations in the south that got $2 off any size bottle and everyone else got $2 of a 96 load. So there are areas that truly have a legitimate coupon for the sale but not many of us got it.

    • Sebastian’s Mommy

      ***Deal Alert***

At my Publix in Vinings, GA they had small cans of Hunts tomato sauce with or w/o sodium for 6 for $2.00. Underneath it was a blinkie w/ coupons for $1 off 4 any variety of Hunts sauce.

Buy 8 @ $0.33 e. and use two $1/4 get 8 small cans for $0.64 or $0.08 cents each. HTH!

      • Jen

Thanks! I can always use tomato sauce!

    • Danielle

Did anyone buy the Totino’s pizza rolls? They are listed here as BOGO, but they were not in the sale paper at my store.

    • I was just informed tonight at “Publix” that they were no longer taking “Rite Aid”, or “Food Lion” coupons. But they were taking other competitor coupons. Can they discriminate openly like that?

      • amy

I believe “Discriminate” is the wrong word.

My Walgreens does not accept any competitors coupons.
My Food Lion does not accept any competitors coupons.
My Kroger does not accept any competitors coupons.
My Super Target does not accept any competitors coupons.

My publix accepts food lion, kroger, and super target coupons. Hooray!

Publix is a for profit business like all the other stores mentioned. They need to make a profit to stay open. As with any other business, publix decides who their competitors are and what coupons they will accept. My Sams Club and Aldi’s grocery accept NO coupons. I personally believe that my publix bends over backwards to be customer friendly. If people continue to complain and be nasty, publix may just decide to join the other top grocery stores and stop taking all competitors coupons all together. Most coupon users that shop publix really have no idea how good they have got it. You get more bees with honey not vinegar. If you want publix to cancel the one penny item and the acceptance of other store coupons, keep on complaining.

    • Carrie

I personally love Publix! Ours is the friendliest grocery store in the whole city. They don’t “have” to accept competitor’s coupons at all. But so far they choose to accept them at some stores. The reason certain stores might be exempted from their competitor’s list might be because they were overly abused by some customers. Consider it a proactive step on their part to keep revenues up so that they too can survive in a struggling economy.

      • Kayla

I completely agree with you Carrie. As a Publix employee, I am all for people using coupons to get deals. I even tell all my customers about Southern Savers because it is such an amazing website. However, it angers me to know belief when I see people abusing coupons. Especially in the last few weeks, I have had multiple customers handing me stacks and stacks of coupons, the majority of which they didn’t even purchase the item for. And as with competitor coupons, my Publix only takes traditional grocery stores, plus Target. Y’all who can use Rite Aid and Walgreens should consider yourself lucky. People get nasty when we tell them that we can’t take a coupon from so-and-so because technically, it isn’t one. So thanks to all of you Southern Savers for following your coupon rules and making things easier on my store and my employees. I love your site Jenny :)

        • Kayla

          *to no belief

        • Sebastian’s Mommy

I agree totally. I would be embaressed to hand over a Rite Aid or Walgreens coupon to my super helpful and super friendly Publix.

Drug stores are competitors with each other NOT grocery stores. I fear that one day the people in need of good deals will suffer because of the people shopping in greed.

You couldn’t use a Georgia Power coupon to pay your Georgia Natural Gas bill just because they both sell “utilities” now could you?!?

          • Misty

Our Publix takes them, and I use them. We don’t have a Krogers, Whole Foods, Winn Dixie, Food Lion or Target. Super Wal-Mart and Harveys are the only competitors here. So our drugstores are considered competitors for Publix, because of our limited choices.

    • truly amazing. In the past 2 weeks I’ve bought $192 in groceries for $98 using the coupon match ups here. I’m just in shock. My grocery bill has literally been cut in half. What will I do with all that money?? I’m truly grateful!
