It says above:  Most stores will require you to get a flu shot to get the booklet with $110 in coupons, but many will also have them on display or give you one if you ask.

    • Carter

are these rite aid coupons or manufacturer coupons?

    • Great, Get the flu shot for your children increase their risk for life long narcolepsy. and get free coupon! I don't think so!

      • Secret Couponer

        oooweee oooweee…

      • Save1moredollar

        I totally agree!
And, isn't it funny how over half of the coupons are on cold/flu
        treatments?   I
thought you were supposed to be immune and super healthy after getting a
        flu shot! Hah!

        • The flu shot does not give any immunity for a cold.

      • Hildawins

I have never heard of that relationship wih narcolepsy.  I want to look into that for sure.  Thanks for the head up on further reading for me.

        • Bonjour4paris

Here is one link to it in Nashville paper. It happened to a young family member of mine, and his prescriptions to deal with it are over 2k per month. He would fall asleep going down a slide, or while doing gymnastics, and have nightmares that he thinks are real when he wakes up. It is terrifying!   They included the H1N1 virus again last year, and are saying this years have the same flu strains in it, so I imagine it is included in this years cocktail of drugs in the flu shot. The FDA doesn;t report on it, but papers in Europe have more. Read the comments on this article, it talks of other cases in the US as well.  http://www.examiner.com/special-needs-kids-in-nashville/possible-link-between-flu-vaccine-and-narcolepsy

      • Shawn

The flu vaccine/narcolepsy link is for an H1N1 (swine flu) vaccine that was used in 2009 in countries other than the U.S., it seems primarily in Europe.  The vaccine was never approved by the FDA for use in the U.S.  People actually DIE from the flu each year and children and the elderly and those with poor immune systems should be vaccinated to prevent the spread of it.  If there is any credible information linking an FDA approved flu vaccine to narcolepsy, I would love to see it.

    • From what I understand after reading an article from the CDC as well as one written on behalf of WHO the narcolepsy issues are a small occurrence found in patients who already carried the gene. There were 31 million doses of the specific H1N1 vaccine administered in 47 countries, and 162 reported cases of narcolepsy, 70% of those cases in Finland and Sweden. Not enough to make me want to get the flu instead! My son was hospitalized with the flu when he was 5, he was vomiting while completely passed out with a fever of 105 on the way home from the pediatrician. We get our shots religiously after that incident.

Both my children, my husband, my 76 yr old MIL (with leukemia) and myself have gotten flu shots for at least the last 5 years with NO problems. Not a one, nada, nothing. Aside from sore arms none of us have had a shred of a side effect.

Do or do not get the shot, it is your choice. Just don’t chide people for choosing to.

    • Judy- NC

I get my flu shot every year. I am a senior and I feel it is my responsibility to take care of myself. Sure, some people have reactions, but I grew up before polio had a vaccine and went to school with two young boys that remained crippled for life. The best thing about this country is that we have the freedom to choose for ourselves…so if someone disagrees that’s fine, but for some getting the flu shot is the only source of protection they have. I asked for the coupon book at the pharmacy and the lady didn’t know about the coupon book, but found out she did have them. Thanks Jenny for all you do for us.

    • Thanks for the heads up! : )

    • Caddocouponer

Everyone in my houehold got the flu shot last year except my 7 year old (she got the flumist).  We all ended up with severe cases of the flu.  Not from the shot but from the combination flu shot we were given.  I was told by two seperatedoctors that the combination flu shot (equine, swine, avian) they just started last fall was not as effective.  That for some reason it weaken the actual flu shots ability to protect and more and more people were coming back after 2 months and ending up with the flu.  The shot did not protect us from getting the flu nor did it give us the flu.  The flu mist however protected my daughter>    Just a heads up!

I tried to sweet-talk the pharmacy people at my Rite Aid out of a booklet today (without getting  a shot). They said “No way”.  :(

Update! I noticed in the weekly Rite Aid ad today, that the fine print says “no purchase required” for the q-booklet. Because I had been turned down by my store, I called Rite Aid customer service. Within 15 minutes, I had a call back from corporate saying I was right! The man also told me he had called my store to set them straight and that they would be giving me one the next time I stopped in! He also said that was true for ANY Rite Aid store. So, there ya have it. Go get ’em! :)
