If tradition holds true, then tomorrow (01/08) is the day that you want to head to Target. For the past few years every second Thursday of January, Target marks down a large section of toys to 75% off. It is all the toys that they ordered especially for Christmas, or ordered more of for Christmas.

Last year I just happened to be in Target the day they did this and there were some amazing deals. We stocked up on toys to give as presents for our own kids and for birthday parties for the whole year!!

**Note: If you go tomorrow and it is not the day please don’t hate me. I am only trying to help you not miss a deal, some areas are reporting that their stores have already done these markdowns so it is this week sometime for most stores.**

Do they triple the dollar coupon minus a penny?

    • liz

Every Target store is different as to when they start their clearance. Best thing to do is to call the store directly and ask them. They will tell you straight out when the 75% starts. I have done this in the past. Or if you are in the store, ask an employee.

    • Cathy

Thanks-my Target is only about 5 minutes away so I’m gonna go see in the morning!

    • Linda

I called three of my Target stores around here (Michigan) bright and early at 8am, and was told that no additional markdowns on toys are being taken today.
      They’re leaving me hanging!

    • leigh

Nope, next week. It is the 2nd or 3rd Wed/Thurs of January, but it depends on the number of days between Christmas & the markdown. There hasn’t been enough time because Christmas was a Thursday. It’ll be next week.

My Target did not go 75% off today but I didn’t think it was going to follow the last couple of years. I have called several Target stores in my area and all toys are still 30-50% off (Houston, TX). I do know that the new toys are set on January 11, 2009, so hopefully they will go to 75% off by then. No one at my stores would tell me of the date they go 75% off, they are however resetting clearance in 2 stores I went to today…there are a lot of employees working in toys, so that means it is close.

    • I went today, but it wasn’t going on on the southside of Atlanta. I think it will be soon but it is still at 30%. I’m going to check early next week. Thanks for the heads up. :)

Still 30% off in Alabama, but the workers were clearing shelves around the store. I’m anticipating a reduction by next week. A few Christmas items were still available, but not much. However, they were 90% off. I picked up a few cards and a High School Musical Snow Globe for my daughter (1.79 – regular price 17.99).

    • I went yesterday, and they were setting the new toys.
Also the few toys they had left were being marked 50% off.
I picked up a couple at 50%. The High School Musical set of 4 dolls
for $14.99. The Cars multi set for $8.98. The Target Christmas
toy sets..doll, stuffed bear and dog, china set were half at 9.98.
There will not be anything left for 75% as this is the only Target in the area.

I talked to an emplyee today in Houston that said the markdowns have been done for this week, so it will be next week before they markdown again. I did find a couple of things that were 75% off. I found a wooden rocking horse was $39.99 I paid $9.99, an elmo farm playset that was 21.99 for $5.46, and an elmo giggle lego set that was 29.99 for $7.48. I will keep looking…I plan to go back Monday to see if anything has changed.

I got this schedule from a couple of websites. However, I’m not sure if it’s accurate. I’ve found that some Target stores vary, depending on their overall sales and management. However, it may be helpful if it turns out to be true.

Monday – Kids Clothing and Electronics
Tuesday – Women’s Clothing and Domestics
Wednesday – Men’s Clothing, Toys, Health and Beauty
      Thursday – Lingerie, Shoes, Housewares
      Friday – Cosmetics, Housewares, Automotives

    • Diana

I heard it is going to be this Wednesday…I hope the employee was correct!

    • Becky

75% off started today! Yippee! Not all the clearance toys were 75% off, but quite a few. I got some cool stuff. I’m excited.

    • Janice Todd

I was in Target last night (Wed), and saw about 10 employees totally tearing apart the toy section. My suspicions were peaked since all the clearance was still only 15-25%. When I went back this morning, most of it was marked 75%. I hit two Targets and have plans to do one more this evening! I got about $80 worth of toys which will carry me through all three of my kids’ birthdays, surprise bag for road trips and any birthday parties we have to go to. Thanks for reminding/alerting me that this would be happening so I could plan ahead!!

    • Diana

SCORE! I totally stocked up for this year. I don’t have to buy another toy! I love 75% off toys!
